From the Netherlands..such fun to see your videos. I am 67 and like you it is my 2nd very brand new car... love it. I did buy the launch edition with sun roof for more light.. love the technical toys and safety assistance it offers. Being in the NL I had a tow bar installed and put a bike carrier on it... being able to cycle everywhere I go ... just love love it, bought it Aug 22nd and am starting to get to know its language... thanks for sharing this Steve...
Great to see you back Steve, and great choice. Toyota have been at the top of the hybrid game for years. I bought a gen 2 Prius new in 09 and I still own it now albeit with 210K miles on the clock. No regrets whatsoever and I averaged 55 mpg across the board and up to 70 on a run. I too discovered that there is a seasonal mpg difference of about 5 mpg up or down depending on the season and this seems to be the case again in the last few years since I've been driving my transit more. Using cruise and other tricks to up your mpg can become an obsession if you're not careful 🤣 but the techniques/tricks you learn along the way will serve you well if you ever return to a 'normal' vehicle. In my experience, Toyota quality and customer service are top notch so best wishes for you and your new steed. Looking forward to Part 2. 👍
Agree a hundred percent with your review. I also think the Icon is the best in the range (as well as the cheapest!). I have the Icon in the Yaris supermini hatch.
A friend of mine has a Yaris X and really likes it though not without a problem with the battery running flat . I have discovered that this is a recurrent problem accross the Yaris range . I wonder if any of your viewers have had a similar experience ? Excellent video by the way .
It's a problem with ANY hybrids or EVs that you don't use for a while. E.g a week without use and the 12V battery discharges enough to pause issues with rebooting everything. Only a few minutes with the car 'on' in a week is enough to top up the 12V from the bigger hybrid high voltage battery.
Cars have got so big over the years. Seen old Nova while back. So much smaller compared to modern cars. Dony believe there such thing as "self charging". You have to burn petrol.
I just got one…. Poor paint cover, cheap plastic, cheap carpets if you can call them carpet? No lumbar support for passenger, flimsy cheap parcel shelf that flaps about if you open rear windows! Engine noisy! and more oh why did I buy this car?
The default paint needs protection, sure. Point taken. I'm happy with the inside materials. Ditto seats and general comfort. The parcel COVER isn't a parcel SHELF. I think you're using it wrong 8-) Engine noise leads me to think you got a pre-2024 model?
@@stevelitchfield it is a 2024 had to wait for it to be built and only had it just over a month. The parcel shelf is just a bit of material! You can’t lay anything on it! while my wife spends most of the time in the rear with our small dog she opened the window and the shelf rattled about so she had to close it and the reason for opening it was that there is NO ventilation to the rear !! As I’ve said they couldn’t build this car any cheaper if they tried very disappointed. Could not recommend it at that price…. There are other things but pointless, it mpg I can’t fault
@@stevelitchfield how could I use the parcel shelf wrong? They fitted it and it just hangs on elastic straps! never seen that before! I will also service it at 6 months as it will be low mileage use my mate with a garage will do it… annual service by Toyota. I almost fell over when they wanted to charge me well over £100 for 5 Lts oil as it’s now 0 W8 oil which is like water! Toyota insists once a year service is ok! Toyota are not like the 90s when I use to look after many.
Sorry to hear you have believed all the FUD about EV's there are more EV chargers now than Petrol Pumps, and you feel for the sales patter from Toyota about the Self Charging Hybrids, the worst of all worlds, as you need to fill up to charge a battery to get 20miles of range is it, just wait till it goes wrong..
That's not a fair comparison. To fill up for a range of ~500 milles takes 5 minutes. To charge up for a range of ~300 is 45 minutes. So the chargers become a bottleneck. As Steve says, the infrastructure just isn't there.
Great to see you back on full form videos. I’ve found a must have for car play is Waze. Cracking app informing you of all the accidents and cams as you drive.
I missed you on full videos. This video is awesome. Welcome back sir.
Hey man you where the first phone reviewer from UK I watched long ago (Nokia Symbian days)
Great to have you back, Steve. This channel is one of the holy grails of the tech YT community for those who know.
Great to see you back on UA-cam!
You're back 🎉

Genuinely missed your longer videos, mate. Good to have you back.
Glad to see you back Steve.
YAY - great to have a proper video , thanks for coming back. 😂

A brand new car? You've made it! 😆
Seriously - lovely to see you back on video.
Great to see your reviews
Nice to "see you" in long form again! I have a Corolla myself, it's my second one I've owned - they're great cars. Enjoy your new toy! (ahem)

*_I don't evdn have a drivers license, watching anyway since I really like your videos...._* 😅
Ah getting into car reviews I see!

It's a problem across modern cars..
Interesting, thanks! Look forward to next video but hope it works out okay given its not sample product..!
If you're only doing short journeys you best get yourself a trickle charger for the 12v battery.
Cheers Steve.
These are much easier to get in and out of as we get older.
The originator!
Nokia forever! Symbian forever!

Toyota all black interiors are really dark and dreary. . Wish you could specify at least a light roof liner on the higher models.
