- I hadn't really thought much about the Toyota Yaris Cross, despite the car selling in huge numbers and being everywhere. So when the opportunity came to drive the newly updated, more powerful version, I decided to see what this little car was all about. I'm very pleased that I did......

I have had VW golf’s for years. One I have now has had endless faults. Now awaiting a new Yaris Cross. Really excited 😄
Always exciting getting a new car I think.
@lizziedripping71 curious to hear what you will think of it. We will both drive one then... my Citroën had lots of problems too. Back to Toyota.
Mine is coming on July 22nd, another fortnight... here in the Netherlands. Not had a NEW car in decades, but the previous launch had some down sides... so no secondhand this time... long time saving up for it... exciting. This colour too.
I like this colour a lot. Really suits the car. Enjoy it when it comes and thank you for watching and taking the time to comment.
I got mine in Australia 2 weeks ago after having it on order for 15 months. It's called the Yaris Cross Urban, and I purchased all the bells and whistles. It has extras like dash cam, the boot protector, and weather shields, plus the nano coating with a lifetime guarantee on the duco, plus tinting on all windows.
I paid $49k.
It's also AWD, has a heads-up display, lane correction, accident avoidance, among other things, and the colour is Atomic Rush, which is a deep red with a black roof.
I'm still learning all the things it can do, and that seems never ending.
I can use a dial for driving on a rugged trail or in the snow. I could go on and on.
Sounds like a proper little thing you have there! Well thank you for watching from all the way over there and taking the time to share your thoughts. I really appreciate that.
I have had exactly the same car for 2 weeks, love it. Lots of safety features, i was pleasantly surprised with motorway driving it was better than I expected. Heads up display is very good and even sat nav information is displayed on the windscreen. My last car gave me 35 MPG this yaris cross is giving me 66 MPG
An honest review, presented very professionally. I recently bought a 2022 Yaris Cross and was pleasantly surprised. Lovely Seiko SKX BTW!...a true classic.
Thank you for your kind comment about the video. And about my watch…..I have a bit of a thing for watches and Seiko is one of my favourites. Live my SKX and have recently added an SRPD51 or DressSK.
Great review, my wife after previously having 7 original Yaris' picks up her premier Yaris Cross on Tuesday next. I have a CHR but I think the Cross is better for space, especially in the back.
Glad you liked it, it's not cheap but like my hybrid CHR (Ave mpg at about 64 around greater London and the M25) the running costs are likely to be minimal and I think the looks especially in Urban Khaki are superb. Toyota are creating some excellent cars.
Good review of what looks to be a great little car. You've avoided the mistake that other reviewers have made of referring to the CVT as being a belt drive, when it is in fact an eCVT using planetary gears. You have, however, repeated their error of referring to B mode as brake regen, whereas on Toyotas the B mode is only used to provide engine braking on steep downhill runs (thus avoiding potential brake fade).
Great review, Really enjoyed it. Very watchable, and you cover the things prospective buyers want to know about. Due to pick mine up this week - mid July 2024 Design trim and the 'post facelift' model as Toyota describe it - super excited and it was great that you reviewed the latest model.
10:05 You can use the side pockets to store the fabric shelf. Twist it and store it.
Absolutely brilliant little cars, im on my second GR Sport the 24 model and i thought the first was good but the 24 model is so much better and constantly returning 60 to early 70 to the gallon.
Does the extra engine power make a difference?
Great review.. I got a Yaris hybrid 2022.. these vehicles are fitted with Ecvt electric motors Not a cvt..
Great stuff
Great Review I just brought 2024-05 model 115 HP love this car only thing I find the sun-shared feel very cheap, I could not stop LOL at the comparison with DAF CVT 1980 car with this one. totally different technology CVT
waiting for mine.. coming in october
Crazy prices for what is a fairly cheaply made small car.
But will pay you back in great economy and reliability.
Prices sky high has nothing to do with model of the car or brand
All new and used cars are crazy expensive and all down to world and local poor economy
@@houseofcars1973great economy and reliability shouldn't be expensive for a small car! These prices are insane....and you journalist don't even mention it as a problem...
Thanks for that. We have had Excel with city pack for a year and getting 60+ mpg over 14000 miles. Looking at changing to premiere or maybe waiting for all electric version (2025?) Brother in law also interested in Yaris Cross but only usually does short journeys. Some forums suggest that there can sometimes be a possibility of the battery losing it's charge when the car is only used for short journeys or is left parked up for several days (eg at Airport) Does anyone have any info/views on this. We are really pleased with ours which is why we are happy to get another one.
I had a normal Yaris loved it got a Aygo X at the moment a bit under powered but both beautiful to drive I get my new Yaris cross July 13 can't wait
I was genuinely pleasantly surprised by it. Great little car. Enjoy yours when it comes and thank you for watching and taking the time to comment.
The gearbox is an E-CVT - not a drive belt to be seen. I believe they use epicyclic gears and electric motors.
Self charging hybrid explains it well!
Very tempted to swap my 2015 ford focus diesel which is £0 road tax for one of these as I don’t do the miles now since covid.
Has anyone drove the 115 and 130 bhp version, if so was there much diff?
Also the excel doesn’t get the 130bhp engine
Great review other journalists complain about the CVT , I'm in a Hybrid Compass 1.5 , but would consider the Yaris Cross as the road tax for one is way cheaper, I could hear the slight noise when you accelerated, no doubt in the rain it would be minimal, the only thing missing is a Sunroof 🙂
Yes, I ordered this one, colour n all here in the Netherlands WITH a sunroof. It is slightly more expensive here due to taxation.
@@wilmaMOW I Hope you enjoy your new vehicle, certainly will save on fuel 😃
Great review....couple of things ...an all wheel drive is available and a sunroof is also an option ...toyota uses an e CVT (which uses planetary gears ) not belt driven - I have an excel and it's a great car for round town and is practical (as long as you don't have a family full of six footers). I would get another when it's due for replacement. I like your style of review so I have subscribed ... great work - thanks
@@wilmaMOWIs it an opening sunroof ? Here in UK they only offer a panoramic glass roof but non-opening.
Thank you.
Excellent review. Would be good to see you test the revised Nissan Juke Hybrid which is a direct competitor.
Noted!
The colour is Urban Khaki - you said it’s not 4 wheel drive but there is an AWD version.
I know, and I correct myself on teh colour later in the review. I also know there is a 4WD model, but I was referring to the one I was testing.
@@houseofcars1973 Yes, apologies I entered the comment before I had got to the end. Glad you know there is an AWD version I thought you were referring to the Yaris Cross in more general terms. I have the 2023 Excel AWD model and love it apart from as you say the rear doors don't open very wide and a bit harsh over pot-holes with the 18in wheels.
Fuel economy is better than the WLTP figures of 55mpg for the AWD model and regularly get 60+ mpg which I measure by the fuel put in which is about 3mpg less than the car says. I have on order the Premier Edition AWD and looking forward to the extra bit of power. Thought your review was great by the way - thanks.
Two C-HRs and now in a Yaris Cross Excel; what’s not to like. Thanks for the review.
My pleasure. Glad you enjoyed it.
I have the same model, same year 2024, brand new from factory.
Though with the one with 116HP.
I genuinely dont think its worth 3000 euros extra for just that 14hp extra / 0,5 seconds faster accel + "sound dampening".
3000 euros is a lot btw....
I got mine called "Style edition" for only 26k euros.
Paying by month, it costs me only 150 euros.
I think thats a bargain.
Not either a fan of this new Khaki color. I bought the silver shimmering color which I think looks excellent.
But to each his own I guess.
Though 130Hp and sound dampening is NOT worth 30k euros extra!
And I honestly DONT understand all the complaints about Noise.
WHICH NOISE?!?
SERIOUSLY.
You guys gone soft, really. Back in the days with manual cars, you are actually supposed to listen to the engine when shifting gears.
You know what i think?
People / you guys are getting spoiled!

Very good 👍 video. Best thing that you tell us real mpg. Could you please review comparison video on Nissan juke hybrid Yaris cross honda hrv hybrid and hyundai kona hybrid.. thank you
Thanks for the sub!
Thwre are 4wd versions avaaikabke woyh an electric motor in the rear
I know, but I meant that the model I was reviewing wasn't a 4WD one.
You can get the Yaris Cross in an AWD version too.
I know.
@@houseofcars1973 That isn’t clear from the video, which is presumably why I’m not the only person to point it out.
try an bmw x5 50e and a yaris is just sad cvt LOL it is fine for short journeys ;-)
sorry but the first 10mins were litterally us staring at the car whilst you babbled on... just show us the car and what it has to offer
Apologies that you had to endure that, but this is how I review. The automotive UA-cam space is very crowded, and so in order for me to stand out, I give a bit more detail on the car I review and the marketplace it sits in. I try to aim my reviews at people who might be looking to actually buy the car, so the amount of detail I give is important - a hangover of me having been a car salesman for nearly 30 years I'm afraid. This won't be for everyone, so if you would rather watch people drag race cars, or skip over important pieces of information, this might not be your channel. If it isn't, the all I can say is thank you for giving its try and taking the time to comment. I do however plot it into chapters so you can find the relevant piece to you, but like I said, I know my style won't be everyone's cup of tea. Sorry if it isn't yours.
good job reviewing this car. bought mine December 2023. and loving it more and more with each drive i take. currently cruising down croatian coast 🏝️🚗
