Led Zeppelin formed in 1968 and went on to become one of the most influential, innovative, and successful groups in modern music, having sold more than 300 million albums worldwide. It always baffles me that a single band can have so many smash hits. Most bands have one or two truly iconic songs and a few pretty good ones, but Led Zeppelin has at least 30 songs that are absolute masterpieces, and all the rest of their songs are great, too. There has truly never been a band like them, before or since. Long live Zeppelin!

You usually have to listen to prog rock for that kind of stuff, but LZ pulls it off as a straight hard rock song perfectly.
Where is it 12/8? I hear the 4/4 and 7/8, but not that last time signature
@@BlueGamingRage The 12/8 is the swing section at the end of the song though it’s at a much faster tempo than 12/8 songs usually are.

I had this riff stuck in my head for the last 30 hours. And have finally found it. Only a legendary band could create a riff that has someone obsessing for a full day.

It’s totally wow! And then around 3.18 they go into Swing! When I heard this as a teenager I had no idea what Swing was but I’m a huge fan now in my latter years & who knows maybe this planted (no pun intended) the seed! Glorious stuff!

Page is and was perhaps the greatest rock songwriter ever. It's not an issue of technique, not of being a virtuoso, but rather an issue of writing things that catch the ear of as wide an audience as possible, while still being unique and orginal.
Well, except for the copied stuff, but hey, that's a dead issue, when compared to the immense volume of blockbuster originals like Kashmir, The Rain Song, The Rover, The Wanton Song, Heartbreaker, etc, etc, etc. Page is a FANTASTIC songwriter, and that is what separates him and Zeppelin from the rest, regardless of guitar skills, of which his were already great, but it's the SONGWRITING that made Zeppelin legendary, the greatest band of all time.
Well put. To be honest, his live performance are hard to listen to at times becauae of his over the top soloing and being sloppy and all that, but the songwriting ans production are without parallel.

I think Bonzo said it best'- he said other bands can try to emulate what they do, but Zeppelin's magic was about the spirit in which they collectively did it in - & you can hear it at the beginning of the Ocean ( referring to the Oceans of fans that flocked tio see them) when Bonzo counts in " We done four already but now we're steady & then they went - one ù,two, three, four..." iconic stuff!
