Led Zeppelin formed in 1968 and went on to become one of the most influential, innovative, and successful groups in modern music, having sold more than 300 million albums worldwide. The band rose from the ashes of The Yardbirds, when Jimmy Page brought in John Bonham, John Paul Jones, and Robert Plant to tour as The New Yardbirds. In 1969, Led Zeppelin released its self-titled debut which was produced by Page, as were all the subsequent albums. It marked the beginning of a 12-year reign, during which the group was widely considered to be the biggest and most innovative rock band in the world.
Led Zep did more in 8 minutes then most artist will in full albums
True words.
You hit the nail on the head. All aspects of each member are intricately interwoven into each song. Masters!

It was indeed. My 15 year old brother put it on and my 13 year old mind was blown. 60a rock was great but the raw power of this...

Excellent comment!
It’s really impossible to describe the textures, shades, and motion that dominate one’s mind when listening to Led Zeppelin. This song is like traversing a war zone in the middle of the night, planes exploding in the distance. No one ever truly accessed the vibes that they did 50 years ago.
Agreed!
Mind blowing band..Almost every song is the shit

Happily every listener lives!
I love zeppelin but I equally like Cream. Especially the live cream volumes 1 and 2. The version of steppin out on volume 2 is incredible. Also standing on top of the world live version off Goodbye the intro solo contains my favourite ever guitar lick

I sold mine back in '92! Miss it so much, but it was a 427 and passed everything but the gas station!
Not old, seasoned.
One of the greatest albums of all time!
For nearly any other band, this song would be the absolute peak of their creativity. For Led Zeppelin, it was Tuesday.
Great song! Makes me feel young again. Now I'm 70 heard first time when I was 15
The last song of this album shows where they were headed........to the top. This song is one there best shows all the members talent! This album sounds like they were together ten years already! John Bonham was insane.......
It's curious that "How Many More Times" was supplanted by "Whole Lotta Love" in Zep's concert setlists after the latter was released. The reason had to be that time didn't allow for both, and "Whole Lotta Love" quickly morphed into the "Let That Boy Boogie" medley that became a standard for a few years. They did roll "How Many More Times" back out for the early part of the 1975 tour to replace "Dazed And Confused" when the latter was dropped because Jimmy Page was playing with a broken finger. But what a rocker! Peace.
Great trivia question though. The first to con the phrase"whoops, I did it again"
Best band ever! Says i for more than 4 decades
Well bonham played since he was a boy and was introduced to alot of music specialy jazz funk I think
But you are right their sound where a total powerhouse and how they felt time together is according to me incredible very very incredible it ins't metronomical altough you might already know this

The most kickass blues song Zeppelin did, just kicks ass and gets me in a good, fired up mood.
Dazed and Confused just as good.
Me too..check out the royal Albert hall version from 1970,if you haven’t already..absolutely stunning work
And the lemon song
I had a big kick ass component system back in 1969. Other old geezers like me know what I mean. Shake the house, damn near blow the windows out kind of a setup. This album, and this song in particular, were otherworldly at high volume. It's headphones these days, but it still sounds great.
Yep 1969, on a friends kickass Marantz system. Talk about shakin the rafters !
5:48 Bonham takes this song to a new level. What a fascinating artistic choice to play a snare-based marching band groove.
And to make that artistic choice when you're all of 19 years old.
This was one kickass album it was the beginning of Led Zeppelins dominance on the world of rock n roll which never stopped

I think black sabbath would disagree
@@tepoztlitlacatl634 I love black sabbath as well these were the gutsy to bands that made there mark on heavy metal rock music but in my pinion I feel that Led Zeppelin is the best followed closely by Black Sabbath

Actually in the early days of Led Zeppelin this was their main song in concert. Not underrated at all. But your point is well taken. It’s not thought of as one of their top songs by many people. But those in the know, understand how important this song was to Led Zeppelin ascent to the top
When someone says "seminal Led Zeppelin" this is the song they're talking about.
At the end of the song, perhaps the most savage drumming in Rock history. Thanks John Bonham. You are now thundering in each storm from heaven
If you don't feel Led Zeppelin you have No Soul....
One of the best songs in the history of rock music. Not much more to be said - genius.
It still blows my mind critics and reviewers hated their debut album
That’s just how transformative and different it was at the time!
I wonder why I loved their 1 st album when it came out in the days of my youth?
I remember my brother getting this for Christmas in 69 and he went and picked it out before we all got up to open presents and played the entire album low enough but everybody could hear it. We were a family of 10 and I was 9 years old and was blown away by commando drums and Page's guitar works, and then bring in that brilliant voice of Plant. And on the intro to Your time is Gonna Come is epic from Jonesy. Black Mountain Side - WHEW and then seeing the album cover the next morning, was already indoctrinated for the next generation of ROCK.

Another Zeppelin masterpiece. Talk about light and shade!
And oh so hard and heavy
Light and shade is babe I'm gonna leave you lol
This is one of my favorite Led Zeppelin songs to play on drums. After 30 years of honing my skills I can say with full confidence that I CAN PLAY EVERY SONG BY LED ZEPPELIN AND ITS ALL FROM MEMORY.
I started learning when I was 16 and my friend took away my slave drum pedal so I couldn't cheat and use a double bass pedal to recreate Bonzos incredible pedal play.
Now I can play those bass notes with left or right. It took everything and millions of hours of practice to be able to say I'm one of very few drummers that can mimic John Bonham flawlessly.
When I play along to this, I play different fills every single time, which is fun, wild and free. And I think that kind of is what Bonham was all about. Also because I don’t have the patience or discipline to ever be able to mimic him.
They played off each other so brilliantly in that Danmark UA-cam 1969 live video
Your ass sucks buttermilk grasshopper!

I think this might be the greatest rock n' roll song of all time.
It's 1979. In my high school architectural drafting class our assignment was to write out a page in architectural letters.
I chose the lyrics to this song and wrote them in 'Led Zeppelin' font.
Mr Pickler loved it and gave me an 'A'.
Jimmy Page said that the seasoned session drummers he knew from his studio days were reaching out to him and asking him where the hell he found the drummer in his new band. When Page told him he was 21 years old only used one bass pedal on the album they were shocked
"How Many More Times", ends with the same riffs as it begins with. Yet, after the opening riffs, etc., there are several different harmony & and melody riffs, etc., until the closing riffs...
A lot of power, hypnotics, heavy metal, stoner (420) rock. There is more change-ups in this track, then "Stairway to heaven"
I'm a senior rocker who served six years in the Santa Monica Unified school Districts Concert Orchestra, so I appreciate all manner of music, I critique it, and for a few years when I was a teen, I performed with the combined Concert Orchestra in front of ten thousand fans at the Santa Monica Civic Auditorium.
Listening to rock albums at home or performing Bach...they both are equally a Rush!
Yes, they go from "No Place to Go" (Howlin' Wolf 1954) to "Beck's Bolero" (Jeff Beck 1966) to "Kisses Sweeter than Wine" (Jimmie Rodgers 1957) to "Steal Away" which Plant had sung on (Alexis Korner 1968) to "the Hunter" (Albert King 1967).
This is the heaviest song of the 1960s. No song from anyone was as strong as this. This song holds up 53 years later.
It’s a great song, but plenty others from the 60s are as heavy or heavier. Ball & Chain by Joplin, Walk in my Shadow by Free, White Room by Cream, hell even Helter Skelter by the Beatles or the Nile Song by Pink Floyd are up there
