Indeed, you are correct; Bonzo HATED this song and originally had refused to try and play it, partly because because he was not a fan of reggae and wasn't his style. But as you said, he did make it work though, being the consummate professional he was.

I didn't scroll through all the comments here, so someone may have mentioned it already, but if not, just fyi-- The name of this song is actually pronounced "Jamaica" the way a Brit from a certain region might pronounce the name. Fits with the reggae theme, right? Phenomenal song from a phenomenal band!
Definitely Led Zep fan. Saw Robert Plant in St Augustine last year...he played When The Levee Breaks and if I had dropped dead during it I would have died a very happy lady. I love this song!
Back in 73 I was in 10th grade. Had an old '66 Ford Econoline gas company van that I converted to a shagger. Had an 8 track and JBL speakers. After school, on the way to work at a hot dog shop, I would fire up a fattie and listen to Zep Houses of the Holy on the way there. Put me in a perfect mood to sling some yappers.
The best band of musicians that changed rock music on this planet and how to entertain their fans, I started to play led zeppelin at age 12 & I'm still listening to them at 60 yr. young, my oldest son Rick (37) rock😂on & started with me thru from the start of music to him & Declan my (15) yr. old is the same & has been getting into music. I love it
This song is so good, it makes me want to go to Jamaica and drink some Red Stripe beer. But then I remember that I'm broke, so I'll just listen to this song on repeat instead.

I mean, sure, I had heard a few Led Zeppelin songs before, but Houses of the Holy was the first LZ album I listened to, just within the past week or two. It was great. This song absolutely blew me away though.

yes, we do remember zeppelin for changing everything about rock music, but im appreciative of their post-IV works. They weren’t just blues based players who added a lot of heft; they were idea machines, and they wanted to push rock further than they already had.
I was 8yo when this album was released. I remember listening to it, laying stomach down on my bed, hands to the ground, my speakers were behind me and @03:57 I nearly jumped out of my skin thinking the devil was behind me with his flames and pitchfork!!!

In a 2005 interview, Plant discussed the different interpretations and pronunciations of the name of the song.[2] He explained that the title is derived from an old joke, where two friends have the following exchange: "My wife's gone to the West Indies." "Jamaica?" (which in many English accents sounds like "Did you make her?") "No, she wanted to go".[5] The title, which does not appear in the lyrics, was chosen because it reflects the reggae feel of the song, and as an example of the Led Zeppelin band members' senses of humour.[2][6] Because of the unfamiliarity of listeners to this back-story, as well as ignoring the apostrophes intentionally placed in the title, American DJs and fans often mispronounce the title as "dire maker".[2] This confusion and mispronunciation was more common in the United States than in Britain, according to Jimmy Page.[7]
I watched jimmy page at the oxford union speech at Oxford University and he did he didn’t like “hit music” and singles , but I think zeppelin should have made more hit songs and cool singles like this. Plant’s singing is excellent here.

Canciones románticas al estilo Zeppelin, me encantan 🤩😍🎸 Don't gooo ! 🎶 Esta canción sí la pasaban mucho por radio en Perú a diferencia de las más rockeras que no eran tan "comerciales".
Sounds like angel baby by Rosie and the originals it has a similar chord pattern 🎶 In the liner of their album Houses of the Holy he mentioned something along the lines of “whatever happened to Rosie and the Originals?” Shows how LZ were studens of music before anything🤘
I heard Stairway to Heaven millions of times. D'yer Mak'er is my favorite Led Zeppelin song. The melody is so intoxicating, full of raw emotion.
It is my favorite song too.

Nah, definitely one of their worst songs, imo.

i wonder how it will be listed in 100 years.. 'rock era of classical music'
People hardly play songs.
They just play recordings.
100 years on da still playing Hank so guess yo be right.😊
Since i first Heard this song by the very early 70's i never let it go. Now i am 67 and still keep my 45 acetate.
Much as some Zep members hated this, this song made me a Zep fan in 1974. Heavy in to drums, Bonzo was my favorite.
AND Sean Kingston sampled it!..
I love it. Though I'm not of this era. I think is shows how versatile and amazing zep could be and hence why they're one of the greatest
They were hanging out with David Bowie when they wrote this
I know Bonzo hated that song and reggae in general but this is one of LZ's i listen to often. His heavy drumming style was perfect
Wow! you know BonZo? like you guys were buddies?

I love how wide of a musical range Led Zeppelin has. It's almost as if all their songs are written by different bands entirely.
My mother bought the album for herself in the early 70s. 15 yrs old i was and played this album over and over. She didnt mind.

Zep was all original blues inspired. D'yer maker is just another *chefs kiss* song by the greats themselves
Underrated song.
Ahhh, could listen to this so much! Perfect.
I probably herd this about a thousand times since back from 1974 I was 15 years young

Canciones románticas al estilo Zeppelin, me encantan 🤩😍🎸 Don't gooo ! 🎶
Esta canción sí la pasaban mucho por radio en Perú a diferencia de las más rockeras que no eran tan "comerciales".

Sounds like angel baby by Rosie and the originals it has a similar chord pattern 🎶 In the liner of their album Houses of the Holy he mentioned something along the lines of “whatever happened to Rosie and the Originals?” Shows how LZ were studens of music before anything🤘
"No, she went of her own accord."
Oh-ho-ho-ho!
