  • Its 12,000lbs!! Its a rare find! Havent found anything like it so far! A rare hunk of metal! Found this safe in a shed of a property I bought. We fixed it up to total working condition! As you see it has four dials, the first is a 3 digit combo, the fourth one is a 6 digit combo!! Nobody breaking into this one very fast!!

    Amazing. This is a piece of American history. I hope it is preserved in “as is” condition and lovingly cared for. Just from your video you can feel, it has soul. Benjamin Franklin complements you.

    This safe should be the standard that all other safes are modeled after. The junk they make today for thousands of dollars is not worth the money paid for them. Incredible. And $15,000 seems to be a steal for something so beautiful and secure as it appears to be. Looks impenetrable. Great find!

    Very nice, even the day doors are just as strong as the main doors. Also, it's nice to see that the silver is still in place on the door.

    That is some amazing detail for the inside of a safe.

    Although safes like that are fairly rare, they are not unique. However yours is a pretty early version based on the Hall patent date of 1849 on it. I don't believe I have seen that first Hall patent date on a Hall safe and I have seen quite a few being in the trade for over 45 years. That and the rest of the hardware especially the inner left hand chest door lock puts the safe most likely from the 1870's. Many years ago, I saw a Herring Hall Marvin that was 17,000 lbs. Same basic setup but a bit larger. Worked on a similar Diebold a couple years back, and it was about the same size as yours. Certainly a sweet piece of work.

    Smart ... keep all the combinations inside the safe so if it ever gets locked up by accident you can ... well .... be chit out of luck

    This safe urgently needs to be restored there, it will be very beautiful, because it is very old, it has stood the test of time but needs to '' take a shower '' I'm sure there are many professionals who know how to do this

      and so would love to see the different ways for how they moved them back in the 1800's...no hydraulics and fancy tools, so a lot of just old- fashioned man-handling with basic tools of the time

      are you interested in this particular one? The closest we have ever found to this is one that is half the size.

      You need to put this in an auction to sell it. There are appraisers that will come to you. You need a bigger audience. Of course it would be a logistical nightmare but could you imagine this at Antiques Roadshow. Something like this WILL NEVER be made again. There has to be someone with the money that will buy this that probably isn't even looking for a safe. When they see it and appreciate the work put in to this when it was built and its an antique.

      I would really like to know how they moved it back when it was made. Especially when i found it, it was inside a shed on a concrete pad, and there was a cutout in the shed just big enough for it to go in, but the wheels were perpendicular to the direction it was sitting and the cutout, and they do not swivel.

      Exactly...the casters were positioned on purpose to be parallel with a wall that they were to be up against. This helps to ensure that the safe isn't easily rolled anywhere away from a wall thus limiting the safe's position that can pretty much only be rolled along the wall...even if this size safe could be moved at all without having a teem of people, pry bars, etc etc.

    Not a bright idea to keep the combos for the safe in the safe.

    • @get-the-lead-out.4593
      @get-the-lead-out.4593 5 років тому +1

      Well isn't that how you keep the combinations safe ;o)
      ...but yeah, hopefully he keeps a copy of them somewhere else.
      Was nice to see he taped some of the dials to prevent them moving...it sometimes only takes a small rotation of the dial to scramble enough of the wheel pack that will prevent the bolt from opening until everything is properly dialed in again
