I love the fact that there aren't any stupid music overlays. You get to hear every aspect of the restoration which is what makes these video's exceptional.
Exactly dude
Nice
this is what i most like about this videos
Except for O Little Town of Bethlehem at the end.
Totally agree.
My father was a Monroe tech. starting 1967. He could make these machines and their operators happy.
Wow! It seems like quite a complicated piece of machinery!
Having collected and restored many Monroe, Friden, and Sweda mechanical calculators & cash registers, I can tell you that without the service manual, it is extremely difficult or near impossible to reassemble a working device. There are so many intricacies and subtle mechanical timing steps that would never be considered without reading proper documentation. Regardless of whether this calculator worked or not, it’s still a beautiful restoration. I wish I had the means to sandblast my cases. I just clean them up as best I can.
I can’t even relax bc I’m SO nervous about how he’s gonna put it back together
Maybe he took photos as he disassembled it.
I was thinking the same thing! I don't care that he fixed it.... holy hell putting it back together correctly.
Me too!
I do love watching restorations like this. This one was quite an large project. You did a fine job. I just wish you would’ve shown how well it functioned at the end.
I suspect that it does NOT work. He didn't even lubricate the mechanism. I think he was only interested in cleaning and painting it. Now it'll end up on a shelf in some millennial's apartment.
@@stephendeluca4479 I think so
Did he reinstall the grimey motor with the frayed wiring? I don't think he did.
He hasn't because it didn't.
@@stephendeluca4479 I would display that thing on my shelf, for sure - its awesome looking.
To just know how to do this is in itself is unbelievable because sometimes there are missing pieces TINY pieces that can make all the difference when putting it back together. There are no directions except what you might find online but the patients it takes and ability to find what’s needed if not then make it???? How crazy is that. You’re AWESOME at what you do please never stop posting. Ty
How can a person design something like this? It is magnificent.
😳 a mechanical freakin calculator?? Holy shit that was a smart ass human that designed that!!
If you think that is crazy then oh boy let me tell you about a little gadget known as the Curta Calculator
"Curta - Wikipedia" en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Curta
Me: can we get a new calculator?
My mom: we already have one at home
The calculator at home:
Watching you removing the keys reminded of: Once I was fixing a well loved and lived VCR of a client, and had to take all apart to clean the literal dirt and check if it was just it. Teeny tiny parts, delicate pieces. All cleaned, time to reassamble! That's when I discovered my camera didn't save any photos of the process, so I didn't knew *how* to put it all together.
And that's how it took me days to complete a job that usually takes 2 hours.
It amazes how you remember where it all goes back. Xx
One thing is to disassemble the thing but reasembling it? That's a whole other game. Well done!
There are rectangular bars under the keyboard between each column of keys. They should have been painted red on alternate sides of the rectangle. They are visual aides to mark out columns on the keyboard. Each bar has a knob at the top to change the color, which would be visible through a rectangular window all the way down.

@@obedmurillo462 What does that even mean? First of all, this ain't reddit. Second, he's just pointing out a mechanical feature of the calculator that wasn't considered in this restoration. I wouldn't have known that, I've never operated one of these calculators. It's a fun fact and a consideration for others undertaking the project.
Im just making a joke
Im not saying hes trying to flex how smart he is.... this is just a joke
What? Huh? Run that by me again.
A VERY IMPRESSIVE MACHINE
I have always been an admirer of the ingenuity behind these analog / mechanical mashines.
The video however reminds me that cleaning my own keyboard is long overdue 😳😄
My Dad used to sell Monroe Calculators back in the 50's, 60' and 70's.
Oh those poor springs. My heart hurts for those poor little springs.
Teacher: No Calculators
Kids in the back of the class:
A little appreciation of how you turned the vacuum cleaner into a background noise!
I worked one of these things in the early 70s before calculators (the Bowmar Brain) came out. The register would move back and forth and up and down for about 30 seconds to do a calculation but every business had this, especially banks. I think we called it a comptometer.
Such an intricate analog device.
I"m really impressed with how well this piece held up on the insides. Not as much corrosion or rust as I expected.
Asombrosa restauracion de esta calculadora antigua de 1950, excelente resultado, mis respetos desde Venezuela.👍💯👍🙏
Dang that's like one of the final bosses GG lol
Now you should enlist a trained Monroe technician to make it work properly -- there might be a few old, retired guys who know how. Those gears, levers, and springs all need to be timed correctly. I'm a retired office equipment repairman -- typewriters, mostly. Saw lots of those old Monroes. All I could do was clean and oil -- the repairs I left for the Monroe guys. Good video though.
did i miss it or did you forget to lubricate all the mechanics?
Great job. Now the beauty has been restored. Before spreadsheet on laptop, there were abacus, calculation ruler and beauties like this. Now people can see a real one that’s still around.
I watch these types of videos to fall asleep to when I can’t relax … they really help !!🤟🏾
Goodness me. Just watching you take that apart I kept thinking how on earth are you going to even remember which bits go where.
Fabulous work! Each project is both interesting and educational. I learn a lot about items and their workings just watching you.
Wow, an amazing transformation. You did a great job. I looked at the filth inside that you had to clean and wonder where the original owners kept it? Well done.
I have one of these still with a carrying case. It was the most popular calculators we had in our division. That was a little over 25 years ago. I can use it for basic addition and subtraction, but there is still much I never learned on it.
It’s extremely reliable for determining roadway grades.
You were still using these in the late 1990s?
I learn something new each time I watch. Well done.
That was so satisfying, when I was pouring myself a glass of juice the juice missed the cup! Loving these videos
When I was a child ( about 7 or 8) we had a friend of the family that had a typewriter repair business in Houston. My mom's typewriter went out and we went to drop it off. While I was there, the owner let me go in the back ( after extracting a solemn promise not to touch anything.). I remember particularly a manual typewriter that he told me was a very high quality machine in its day. The machine dated from the late forties, and the cover was off. Easily one of the most complicated mechanisms I had ever seen ( to this day, to be honest). This was in the heyday of the typewriter ( late 60's) and there were machines everywhere. There was also a a calculator that was being repaired, and the technician ( a real enthusiast) was trying to explain to me how a machine could do calculations,. I think the last thing I understood was, now look at this. The rest was gibberish. But really interesting
Imagine getting a heart from Mr. Rescue.Big fan from india
Now you have one 😉
When I first read this I thought you meant getting a heart like surgery
I'm stupid
I don't think its relevant where you're from, you could have just said "big fan here" ....
@@iamothien9420 Sure, it's relevant ... so we know there are people all over the world watching these videos.
This is a really challenger, level hard!!! Good Job
I liked it, though you could have brightened the white plastic bits with the uv trick on some other channels like Odd Tinkering...
Still would love to see you restore a VW Van!!! I want to complete my playlist!!! 😋
I used one of these at work in the 1970s. It had enough digits on it to calculate things that and electronic calculator can’t show. Try the chessboard 2^64-1 calculation.
My first job was doing payroll for a small company back in 1960, Hadn't seen one of those dinosaurs since then.
🇧🇷The best...perfect...wonderfull...🇧🇷
Ah yes, the forbidden mountain dew.
You are doing of restorations, keep it up!🛠🎬
This was such a cool restoration. Definitely pretty complicated when puting things back together. The video quality, as always, was amazing
I adore these videos, they deserve to have more likes
Ouuu when he vacuumed the nastiness under the numbers😁
@3:30 I feel the same way every few years when I clean my computer keyboard.. lol Nice job BTW!
Its has been 1 year, I watch your channel since the Porche 356 restoration, your channel quality keep improving
and nice restoration
Did you notice that I wasn't joking around about myself, if I ever say I sure do miss the good old days? I notice that you tried hard to restore this old calculator! Even though digital calculators, are far more better and superior. 😌 👏 👌 😤 🙌 😔 😌
O Little Town of Bethlehem was a nice touch at the end
Woe! I really like it! Would love to see more! Greeting from the netherlands
OMG. I used to have to use this machine, or one very like it. Excellent job.
Impressive - I have exactly the same machine in my collection. So fun to see it disassembled!
Simply...perfecr!
What a great project!
You were very brave to undertake this one! Well done great job!
This would be easy to do. First, I'd take it to MrRescue, then...
Would like to have seen the yellowed keys and logos whitened. Looks good though
Nice to see different things other than cars!
Great job
One of the most beautiful restoration I've ever seen!!! Really amazing!!!
Astoundingly complex piece of equipment. How did you ever know what to do? Amazing work!
Muy buen trabajo, felicitaciones!! 🇵🇪
Holy geez, the patience needed 💙💙
I would have retrobrighted the name plates and buttons but damn that looks awesome. No idea how to work it but a great piece to have.
Looks great. The yellowing items could have been whitened and would have made it so much better. Tysytube Restoration has an awesome method !
Fantastic restoration !!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Glad you like it!
it's rough when you remember using something being restored.. seams like the one l used had a brown wrinkle finish paint

I really enjoyed your complete restoration of an old Monroe. I used one of these in the early 1960's on a summer job. One comment: Please narrate as move alone so we can know what you are doing. Thanks, do some more!
Good thing he showed that it works well too..
More than I did this week...much more!
Now it’s a clean still broken calculator
Curious Mark would love it :)
Remarkable restoration, very creditable.
Congratulations! Good restoration! You can turn white this yellowing parts with hidrogen peroxide and sun
Très bon travail !! Agréable à regarder car c'est relaxant

amazin restoration!!
Nice job have a day love from TEXAS
MASTERPIECE✌
GREAT JOB.
wow!! you are a genius!!
Very nice cleaning job.
Your channel is so awesomely relaxing… this video gave me a bit of anxiety though as I was petrified that you’d forget how to reassemble all of those minuscule pieces lol
The buttons look like they need a nice bath in H2O2.
great result, pity we didn't see how it works
All we need is restoration
I would have loved to see it working! Brave project otherwise!
AWESOME!
Acho muito satisfatório esses vídeos 👏🏻👏🏻❤️
Very nicely done.
Had you removed the buttons & carriage and outer shell. Then sprayed the whole thing automotive brake or carb. cleaner. It would still function. You took a dirty working adding machine that needed only to have the dried grease removed & replaced, And turned it into a broken painted paperweight. There is a knob on the right side to cover where you insert a crank handle so it doesn't need any power to operate enter the number by depressing the buttons, push add or subtract. the buttons remain down. just one pull on the crank will add & subtract a list of running numbers. after the buttons pop back up pulling the crank handle twice totals the list.

@@obedmurillo462 Not just smart you must be very rich too. I wish you the best. Unless you show the adding machine working like new all you did was lie about restoration. It means working and looking like it did when it was new. I don't think you would get fewer likes & subscribes if you said you tinker and refresh things. We mostly like to see what is inside things. As many people would like to see you smash them as fix them. So why lie. I had a mechanical adding machine with a hand crank. And I used to fix it. I never would have taken it all apart. But springs broke, screws fell out but mine worked after I repaired it. It worked when I sold it. I got it from a scrapyard and fixed it to play with when I was10... got it to work when I was 12 and used it for 20 years.
Ok
@@obedmurillo462 Is MrRescue just you? or do work for them and get just some of the money? How long did it take for your first 1000 subscribers?
