The only ones who make the big bucks off diamonds are the wholesalers and retailers. Everyone else just gets very little, unless it's a 5 caret or larger. So damn many diamonds out there. Rubies, emeralds are the ones that get you more because they are so much rarer.
Lots of fun watching your video....as usual.....this piece of advice comes from an old American glass collector....those small covered jars that were all tapped up.....happens to be American depression glass...Windsor diamond to be exact...and pretty collectable down here in the States .

Hope so because you certainly put a lot of work into sorting all the house content that benefitted many others as well. So here is hoping you hit the mother load. You are a real find yourselves and a very precious family.
Phew! After that first safe I was thinking it was going to be disappointing and what they put in that first one was odd. Congrats on a nice little haul. I hope all together the whole contents you'll sell will make you a profit. Thank you for an awesome series.
Melissa had that happy jewelry face and I don't blame her. Every discovery made means you are climbing out of that $20,000. plus time plus expenses investment. Beautiful rings, btw. Best of luck to you in every box you open. This was fun.
Don’t forget they already made $10,000 on the furniture. So they need way more than $10K to break even with costs. I think they’ll likely make a profit. They should get the rings appraised and have a reserve at auction. I loved the way Melissa wasn’t at all interested in switching out her wedding rings. I wasn’t either when my husband wanted to buy me a larger stone. I’m not a fan of gaudy jewelry even if real. I have small hands and I prefer something suited to my hand size.
@@cynthiaamitrano8915 it's weird isn't it that the bigger the diamond the more fake it looks,? I often look in the jewellery store windows and the rings I prefer are the less flashy ones. Given that I don't wear any of the rings I have, im not likely to lash out and buy any. We get some great diamonds from mines in western Australia.
@@barrettorth8413 That seems like a high estimate to me considering they only made $10,000 on the furniture. They would have to sell a total of $50,000 to $60,000 to profit what you estimate. Of course they still have to pay the auction fees, etc.
I just want to say your new house looks amazing! ...I love Melissa's style! ..you both work so hard and you have your dream home and so well deserved..I hope you will be so happy there for many years..❤
Cha Ching Cha Ching! Congrats on this fabulous load of treasure! I figured you'd come across some real valuable goodies! So happy for you! A good payoff for all your hard work!
Yes, Mystic Topaz. You got a great haul in there. Even that emerald and diamond band is a good one. Color matters in emeralds. I love those earrings and matched diamond bands (I think those were guards.) ! Terrific finds!
I picked my own wedding band up at a pawn shop in 2008 and I paid $150 for it and get compliments on it all the time. A few years ago, I took it to a jeweler to repair a broken prong on the setting and he valued the ring at $2000. It is 14k with a row of diamond flowers set just above the band. I don’t have an engagement ring because I would constantly be snagging it on things. I used to manage a clothing store and even my small ring snagged things, that is how my prong broke. I was lucky my ring was dirty, all the lotion in it held the stone in place.
Yes, I lost the big diamond from my engagement ring down a drain in a highrise building where I was working, never to be seen again lol I still have it. Tried to sell it at one point, 18k and still has the smaller diamonds, but I was being offered next to nothing. I have other diamonds. I'll get one put in there when I get around to it
Incredible!!! Beautiful items. I like to imagine a happy couple choosing the puzzle ring set as their wedding bands. They're bound to have a very long and happy life. What you're calling mystic topaz is stunningly gorgeous. What a find! And if it's called Alexandrite and is rare and precious then it's most appropriate.
Those rings are beautiful!! I love to be a witness to you and Melissa's excitement. I am so happy that you are getting some of your money back for all of yours and your partners work in that hoarder house.
Alex and Melissa, I want to tell you I have been watching and going through the auctions with a fine tooth comb over and over. The minute I saw the peacock I just had to have it. It’s so beautiful. I’m not usually a person who buys much. I admire from afar. I was hoping that beauty would be in the last auction so I could get some money together. I had a little together to by Melissa her missing bowl. Then I saw someone had sent that already. And I knew I would need more so I’ve been selling books and art supplies and such. I was so happy to see it in your beautiful kitchen. It works perfect there. Now I can see glimpses of it every once in awhile I hope. Thank you all for making my days a bit brighter. It means so much. Stacey
Oh my...if you think the 1st safe was rather a bust, be glad you didn't pick mine: a card stating I'd be "arrested on sight" (for overdue library books, no less), the first letter my neice ever wrote me (pencil taped to it), first "gift" from my nephew ( a pinecone), brother's wedding invitation, risque photos from my 20's, a poem my youngest brother wrote, etc... The things I find precious aren't worth anything at auction ~ you'd have been soooo disappointed😆😅😂 Happy you & Melissa found more traditional treasures!
I spotted the peacock right away, I thought it was beautiful too Melissa. It look’s gorgeous up there! My grandparents were married in 1932, they had wedding rings as did their parents. What my grandma & great grandma didn’t have was a set, they each had one single ring with some type of stones in them. Grandma’s was diamonds. So wedding rings have been around for over 100 years.
For someone who deals in antiques for a living, I know, right? I think what he meant to say was that diamonds weren't always the preferred choice of stone in an engagement ring. In the Victorian era, people used all different types of stones.
I was so disappointed with the 1st safe for you guys . I was hoping for treasure for you. The 2nd one really paid off. So happy that there was something special after all . Keep Safe ❤Keep Well❤
The larger stone that don’t test Diamond could be white sapphire or topaz. Still nice stones. I’m betting the two real matching bands surrounded one of the larger ones to make a set. And the oval cut stone with all the colors is mystic topaz. Great score guys! ❤️🤗
What can happen over time in some diamonds can get dirty and disrupt the tester to where they don't read as diamonds even though they might be legit diamonds because whenever I found rings that were so filthy that you wouldn't have thought they were diamonds I hadn't took a professionally cleaned and they've tested his real diamonds
There was a smoky grey color stone, which appested to have diamonds all around it. That could be a smoky topaz or smoky grey amethyst. All the rings are very pretty. You and Melissa are so knowledgable about so many thiennegs. It is an education and a pleasure to Listen to you. ❄️❄️😀❄️❄️
My grandfather was what was then called a gold and silver smith. He made all kinds of things. It gave me a love for beautiful stones and silverwork. These rings you found are very pretty. And I bet even the fake ones will sell just fine. There are plenty of people who want a big "looking diamond" on their hand. But I loved the ring with emerald the best. Gorgeous.
That stone you found was most likely Alexanderite, NOW VERY RARE, (one of June's birthstones-the other is a pearl) not mystic topaz. The pink stone with the small diamonds around it could be a pink diamond or pink topaz or pink sapphire. The redish heart shaped on with tiny fiamonds around it could be a garnet (garnet runs anywhere from green to purple and about every shade in between). If it is set in gold, most likely it is some sort of REAL STONE. Just am FYI. Even white topaz is a precious stone. The rings are beautiful.
Those were not alexandrite... they were mystic topaz, alexandrite will be brownish purple in one kind of light and then the whole stone will have a color change when brought into natural light. The pink stone is most likely morgnite but could be pink sapphire, it doesn't appear to have the sintalation (sparkle as it moved) like a diamond would have had. I was surprised they didn't diamond it test it just incase since it would have been 50k if it was a pink diamond lol
I was thinking the same thing, Tanzanian. I make jewellery & the big stone was mystic topaz but a smaller, similar stone caught my eye as Alexandrite. No longer being dug up so getting pricier by the day! Alex needs to take them all to a jeweller to be checked & tested. Also, he needs to be told that semi has been dropped (quite a few years ago) as anything dug out of the earth is precious.
@@jenniferfox301 ya I didn't even really see that one well enough he only held it sideways most of the time hard to tell what that was was very on the brown side if we are talking about the same halo split shank ring. But I did see colour change through the stone. It might be lab created since it was still really large and eye clean. Since there was the lab created ruby ring earlier too
I noticed your wife’s hands shake. Mine do too and my kids tease me about it a lot. I have rheumatoid arthritis and believe that is my cause, but my aunts hands shake too so it might be genetic. I’m glad there are more of us out there.
So happy for your treasure find! The mystic topaz looked like a Tourmaline to me. They are Very pricey right now, check that out. In any case, It is so special Melissa should keep it. She could have the Topaz/Tourmaline put in another ring if she wants it more personal.
Congratulations guys!! I’m so happy for yous, the rings is some real icing on the cake, that haul was like pulling teeth to find treasures but that was nice. With that first safe I was like oh man hahah, good show ❤❤❤❤❤❤
I only wanted one thing in the auction :-) the peacock !! I collect them for my oldest son, it is the spirit animal I bestowed on him for his 25th birthday. Enjoy Melissa, it looks great in your kitchen.
It pays to have a wife who used to sell jewelry; Melissa proved to be quite helpful with her gem knowledge. Alex I was surprised at how many real diamonds were discovered with your gem tester. Ok now I'll be watching the Auction when it starts; but I know there is quite a lot of inventory. So exciting for you both to come away with a good chunk of cash that you, Alex worked so hard for. Good Luck!
Fun video! Always enjoy the two of you during discovery! My take away though, is to grab all those pill bottles I've been tossing in a basket and fill them with change :) Best wishes for a very fruitful auction!
not far into this video but before I forget the thought: put a block ( books, whatever) under the peacock to bring in more into display as the cabinet door bottom is cutting part of it off. AT Last, TREASURE! I was beginning to be disappointed, thankfully the second box paid off!
I am so happy you both are being suprised by this haul of rings. You have got what most of us dreamed of being able to have when we were younger. Love watching your finds. You both make it fun. There was one ring in there that we used to call a smokey topaz gold wrap. 10-14K gold with the stone mounted. They were not cheap by any stretch. I'm talking 70's and 80's.
To lovely assistant a suggestion....if you but a block , a book under the peacock it will sit higher and it's total cuteness can be seen through the glass .
If I’m remembering correctly her family owned a jewelry store. I for sure remember them saying that she worked in a jewelry store for a few years. She is quite knowledgeable in that department!
That was exciting! I love that mystic topaz ring. Never seen that stone before. I need to look for a ring. My birthstone is amethyst and I love that the topaz had green and purple, etc. So fun and unusual!! Great video!
The rings! UDDFA! I think my heart skipped a bigger beat than yours likely did lol. I'll be watching the auction for the heart. and the smokey topaz. ❤Happy for you.
Worth the wait for the safes! Great scores on the jewelry, I think the less valuable rings you didn't show us too closely will also add up to at least another 1000 if they are set in real gold or silver, and the stones are not lab created. Don't discount their value. They all will be so beautiful once cleaned. Will you make another video of the rings before they go to auction? I had another question, too, where did you find the safes in the house? Just curious. The heavy dishes those weird rock chunks were taped up in will sell well at auction as well. Great finds, awesome video. Good luck at the auction!
Well Alex, nice having Melissa around! She seems to know her jewelry. That mystic topaz ring would look nice while handling your new (1957) dish. What do I know. Best to the Archbold family, always!
In the most parasocial way I am relieved and glad that you found yourself a clothlet full of jewelry!! Also very pretty jewelry - which adds a lot of value due to wearability, even if the diamonds happen to be of poor quality. Congrats on that lovely lot!
Even though it may be tempting just to spend the coins which are face value I think it would be worth selling them at auction as there are quite a few businesses on EBay and Etsy that make souvenir items out of old coins based on the individual years such as for 50th birthday
Congratulations on your find… Melissa is very knowledgeable in jewelry. Thanks for making these videos Alex as they have become my T.V. replacement. I am happy for your newer lives. Love the house.
My wife and I were saying Get the Diamond Tester, over and over. Thanks for the fun and suspense, and we are so happy the second safe more than made up for the first!
I would definitely take those two stones that are ones that Melissa didn't know or couldn't remember tanzanite or alexandrite I don't think Alexandra I probably can tonight to a jeweler and have them appraised or just have an appraisal done. I wouldn't put them in the same auction with your other stuff I think he can get some money out of those pieces you put them in front of the right people. And the pink stone could be diamond or Sapphire there was something else in there that could be a colored diamond... I'm glad you finally hit a mother lode on that house boy it sure was a lot to dig through to get to some good stuff it wasn't like Madame Rax (I'm sure I'm not spelling that right) good for you guys I'm happy for you! Merry Christmas
That purple and green stone might be an alexandrite. If it is and it's natural, it's worth a ton of money. Also, you might want to check the large blue-green stone to make sure it isn't Paraiba tourmaline, also worth a pile of money.
I think my husbands Aunt has a Paraiba tourmaline ring, I remember seeing it when we first met (very formal meeting lol) & my jaw dropped as it was SO beautiful. I’ve always joked to my husband for our 25th anniversary he could get me one but…seeing the price? I don’t think 23 years is long enough for him to save up lol
A real alexandrite changes from an emerald green to a ruby red - I saw one at the Smithsonian. The color change is caused by the light source. It looks one color under sunlight and the other color under fluorescent light. An artificial alexandrite (I have two pieces) changes from a pale purple to a pale blue.
Wow, VERY nice! Before you found the jewelry I was thinking it's amazing what they chose to put in a safe. I'm so happy for you ❤️😊 I was hoping they were people who didn't trust banks and their life's savings would be in there. But you scored anyway!
Where is Hans, did he leave the show, I’ve been gone for a while so I don’t really know what’s going on I’m trying to get caught back up and up the first thing I saw when I came online
Jackpot finding the rings. It almost looks like a pawn shop collections. I have two original puzzle rings from my teenage years, one is fours pieces the other is eight. I still can put them together. ❤
I'm so happy that you found something valuable in the safes, with all your hard work you deserve it. You should look up some of those coins, I know the Indian head pennies can be worth a lot. Depending on the dates on the coins they could be worth a lot also.🥰🥰🥰

That and ok we're going to organize all this stuff and come back... lol squirrel squirrel!!!!😁
Super happy for you. Thanks for taking us on your adventure.
Fun video! Always enjoy the two of you during discovery! My take away though, is to grab all those pill bottles I've been tossing in a basket and fill them with change :) Best wishes for a very fruitful auction!
Been doing that for years.
Lovely bowl .I hope those diamonds are real! She knows the real ones 😂U2 are a sweet couple. You’re truly blessed
not far into this video but before I forget the thought: put a block ( books, whatever) under the peacock to bring in more into display as the cabinet door bottom is cutting part of it off. AT Last, TREASURE! I was beginning to be disappointed, thankfully the second box paid off!
Excellent idea. It is kind of lost as it is now. Can't see the beauty of it.
I have the matching jumbo size bowl!
Love your counters Roos, stunning!
Love seeing the rings. Fascinating. The mystic topaz ring could also be a lighter watermelon tourmaline.
I’m thrilled with what you found! I have bought rings for my grandchildren and put them away.
Very happy for you! Praying for a great auction.
Yay! We finally got see the safes! Glad it panned out.
Was beginning to think these collectors didn’t collect much of value. So I’m glad there was something good in that haul. Very fun video.
My wedding set is like the 3 stone one you found and a matching band with 4 stones. They are all lovely 😍
To lovely assistant a suggestion....if you but a block , a book under the peacock it will sit higher and it's total cuteness can be seen through the glass .
The blue touch in the kitchen is great!
What a beautiful find. Melissa I know you're going to keep that beautiful multi colored Ring. you're lucky you get first pick ‼️❤️
So glad you found the rings! What a treasure!
Awesome find Alexander! So happy for you!
Was Melissa in the jewelry industry at some point? Very knowledgeable. Also pretty cute that she immediately defended her ring.
If I’m remembering correctly her family owned a jewelry store. I for sure remember them saying that she worked in a jewelry store for a few years. She is quite knowledgeable in that department!
No but by
@@Rebecca.Robbins This is the correct answer! 👍
I have a set featuring the multi-colored mystery stone. We got it in Alaska. There they called it Northern Lights Topaz.
@@Sharky_222 I'm a woman and my engagement right is Alexandrite. >> I don't know crap about jewelry haha.
That was exciting! I love that mystic topaz ring. Never seen that stone before. I need to look for a ring. My birthstone is amethyst and I love that the topaz had green and purple, etc. So fun and unusual!! Great video!
Just love you two so much ! Thank you for such wonderful videos . So glad y'all scored ! sending love from Nashville ❤
That peacock is great Melissa, it's the one thing I was eyeing.
Just a suggestion, those high items in your kitchen could be put on some sort of pedestal so you can see more of the peacocks tail.
The rings!
Good luck at the auction!
not a bad haul, Love box opening and your showing the finds, heck just love the channel.
Yay! the opening of the safes. Please don't be a Geraldo moment. LOL
I was just going to say that I hope it’s not another Al capones vault😂
Well Alex, nice having Melissa around! She seems to know her jewelry. That mystic topaz ring would look nice while handling your new (1957) dish. What do I know. Best to the Archbold family, always!
In the most parasocial way I am relieved and glad that you found yourself a clothlet full of jewelry!! Also very pretty jewelry - which adds a lot of value due to wearability, even if the diamonds happen to be of poor quality. Congrats on that lovely lot!
Melissa is so sweet... love her smile !!!
After that first box I was worried. Thank goodness your second box turned out much much better ❤
Thank goodness that second safe came through for you Alex!!
The peacock is fabulous. I love it. I’d keep that sapphire ring.
My wife and I were saying Get the Diamond Tester, over and over. Thanks for the fun and suspense, and we are so happy the second safe more than made up for the first!
I was going to say alexandrite ring I know they have purple and green shine to it. Glad you found some awesome stuff in the safes!!
What a score in gold and diamonds! I can’t get over how low key your reaction is! I’d be so happy
Excellent choices; my favorite color is that turquoise. Beautiful peacock too.😊 It was exciting watching you check the diamonds.
That was my first thought - that it's Alexandrite.
Labradorite?
Was feeling sad for you guys at first, all that work, so glad it turned out better😊
Wow, VERY nice! Before you found the jewelry I was thinking it's amazing what they chose to put in a safe. I'm so happy for you ❤️😊 I was hoping they were people who didn't trust banks and their life's savings would be in there. But you scored anyway!
Holy Cow! What a find of all those real diamond Rings!! I would love to find a stash of Rings like that!
Alex, at 11:09 the $1 bill has many 444444 in the serial number. Valuable to collectors
Good catch 👏
And all those coins I would get them checked too knowing for how much some have been selling.
Beautiful 🥰❤️ Rings. Exciting video.
Miss Hans “I’m home honey” on your intro
‘‘Twas nice wasn’t it
Where is Hans, did he leave the show, I’ve been gone for a while so I don’t really know what’s going on I’m trying to get caught back up and up the first thing I saw when I came online
Me too!
Shorter intros are fab-
I miss Hans too. He brought a smile to my face every time he appeared. But I understand your reason. Regards from the Netherlands.
Great show! Loved the rings.
Jackpot finding the rings. It almost looks like a pawn shop collections.
I have two original puzzle rings from my teenage years, one is fours pieces the other is eight. I still can put them together. ❤
Great find, wow! SO glad is it becoming worthwhile
I'm so happy that you found something valuable in the safes, with all your hard work you deserve it. You should look up some of those coins, I know the Indian head pennies can be worth a lot. Depending on the dates on the coins they could be worth a lot also.🥰🥰🥰
