Depending on the situation I’ve recently learned while you have the energy you should leave as quickly as feasible. You don’t want to end up in a situation where your mental wellness becomes compromised. When it does you’ll have a difficult time getting out of an emotional self-destructive pit. I implore everyone to not stagnate, especially if you have tried many of these strategies.

These are good stop-gap measures, especially the initial self-reflection because it keeps you honest. If they’re well regarded by their superiors and peers, they have advocates and the power, so honestly just leave as soon as possible on the best terms possible. Do not waste time or energy trying, and do not burn that bridge.

Actually the boss doesn’t want you to do any of these strategies, they want you to relax, quiet, keep your head down and do what you are employed to do. They want you to be the “yes” person and are offended if you dare to say otherwise. So if you follow just that, you are left alone and may think your relationship with them is ok. They don’t want you to be in the spot lights, put your hands up to take on any additional tasks and/or carry out any company’s strategy because you will look better than them. So if you meet this kind of boss, what are your strategies to deal with them?

It is really hard to recover from that moment when a boss goes... "hmm, I don't think I like them". Then gets reenforced by a co worker or some other tough interactions. Stay positive. I would say to try to have the "let's try to clear the air" talk but the last few times I have tried this it made the situation MUCH worse. When they think you are a suck up... or even say that... try not to do that. Stay positive, friendly but not gushy or over compensate. Keep interacting positive with others and really go out of your way to "get things done". Perform your work and get things done. And, thinking about it... get away from them. Really make efforts to get more skills. Get moving to new opportunities if you can. Give it a try. Stay on your toes.

When I first started my job my boss and I got along well. For three months we had a good rapport. A couple weeks ago I was out for two days. When I came back on Wednesday things had changed drastically. My boss seems to be very upset with me now. She’s always making comments regarding my performance. She’s taken me into her office twice in the past, two weeks. She finds fault in everything I do. She is constantly standing next to me so that she could scrutinize my every move. She insists on micromanaging me. Today she yelled at me in front of customers and other employees. It was very embarrassing and upsetting to me. I’m trying my best to do my job well. I don’t know what more I could do. If anyone has any advice I could sure use it. Thank you.

I used to have a great relationship with my boss until I had a mental health issue last year...since then they stepped back my responsibilities at my request and now they don't seem to know how to talk to me. They seem to resent me for having had to pare back my workload and consistently highlight how little work I do in team meetings. I am being micro managed and now all I get are small and menial tasks to perform which are delegated to me because it's the stuff deemed not worth doing by anyone else. I asked for my responsibilities back because I wanted to try and get back to my old self but my boss now says that I haven't been able to prove to them that I'm capable of doing the smaller tasks. They constantly tell me to consider whether I should be in the this role. It's humiliating and demotivating.

Thats a tough one. The only advice I can think of is to remind your boss "it's still me" and I chose to continue working here because I want us all to succeed. We can get through this and I understand its difficult for you to work with me. Find some middle ground about taking on more of your old responsibilities as best you can manage. AKA use a safe-word system when the pressure might be building. I bet the manager is just too uncomfortable (or scared of breaking some HR rules) to bring it up, so break the ice first.

I don't care if my boss likes me or not. As long as we both do our jobs I'm good. My last boss slandered me which I caught text messages on her phone yet she denied it. With my current boss i heard her say I don't like her. Not my problem but we have to get along.

That is extremely inappropriate that your last boss was slandering you by text - it never ceases to amaze me how some people get into management. I'm glad you got away from her.
The boss relationship is interesting, because you can have an incredibly productive relationships even if you don't like each other. One of my promotions was directly because a manager, who truly disliked me, championed it. I also think good leaders know their personal sentiment towards you is beside the point - when you're awesome and make them look good it's in their best interest to elevate you.

I know why my bosses don't like me.
Because I let my work do the talking, which is better, faster and more detailed than theirs 7/10 times.
And I'm not a kiss ass.
Do I need to improve my "relationship" with my boss?
    Lol, F no.
My boss needs to be more professional and keep his/her personal issues towards me to themselves, and away from the workplace.
Why should I, a hard worker and nice person, change myself into a suck-up because that's what bosses prefer?
I go to work to do my job, nothing more. And an employer shouldn't ask for more. Expecting to be "worshipped" just because you're the boss is despicable and unprofessional, imo.
Thinking you're better, and more respectable, because you're the boss is exactly the problem of this society. And has been a major part of the workplace since the dawn of civilization.
I think it's time to evolve beyond that ice age thinking.

Currently dealing with this exact same thing myself only it's that I refuse to kiss his incompetent ass and the fact that when I went through my divorce a few years ago I made it abundantly clear in a professional polite way that I was in no uncertain terms interested in anything other than a professional relationship with any of my coworkers or higher ups. I do not do that. The only person keeping him from firing me is my team leader. She says she can not run our department without me. So now it seems he's got her as his next target. Our turnover is absurd.

    • @kiyaleelevyrunaya9495
      @kiyaleelevyrunaya9495 Рік тому +1

@@michelleshoffner7976 it was the same for me. Our teamleader was the one who hired me, needed me and wanted to keep me.
Then she took maternity leave and they (the 3 other leaders) took that opportunity to get rid of me and somehow blacklisted me. I can't even find a new job now.
All because I was originally hired as a replacement, which means I don't have the same rights as a normal employee, even after getting a normal contract. So basically they could do whatever tf they wanted to me with zero consequences for them, nor future consequences because I had no rights, so I couldn't even sue.
And now I live in poverty.
Because I refused to worship my fkn bosses, kiss their ass and most of all, because I was actually good at my job. Because everyone relied on me. Because I made the ambiance. If I was happy, everyone was. If I was quiet, the whole place was like a funeral.
And they couldn't bear that a regular employee had so much sway.
Nor did it help my case that I was trained by the manager, who hired me, to know all the jobs the leaders do. So I could assist them when needed, or jump in when someone was sick.
And they definitely did not like that.
I had to pay with my life, basically.
Lost my appartment, all my stuff, lived on the streets for 11 months.
And they even send cops after me with a warrant because of an angry email I had send.
Because making me lose everything wasn't enough for them.
But I found the strength to continue, somehow.
Got a new place, finally got some furniture recently after like two years of cold floor.
But still can't find a job.
They won't even hire me in a supermarket. A place where they literally hire anyone...
They made life unnecessary hard for me for childish reasons.
And somehow, in the eyes of society, I'm the bad guy, the lazy loser, a bag of excuses.
Because bosses have higher status, so their words ring more true.
We live in a corrupt f'd up world.

Been there, done that. I have a highly technical background and methodology. I have been a contract engineer for many years at many companies. Sometimes you just get that type of boss that does not appreciate or understand the technical nuances. If I'm being hired for my expertise, then take my advice, work ethic and regulatory knowledge seriously (I'm not insulted if you decide no). Sometimes a third party can intercede and work out your differences, this is rare. If you cannot work out your issues: my advice to the OP, you will probably have to look for another opportunity. I understand your experiences may not be like mine, but it doesn't matter; a mismatch is a mismatch, free yourself and your boss to move on. Do not burn any bridges, and leave by wishing them the best of luck.

My experience is that if you're boss is unintelligent and they do not like you, it does not matter if you are a top performer or get along with everyone or do your job well, they will will try anything to get rid of you specifically, eg lie, take credit for your work or give credit to someone else for your achievements, tell you to find another job, tell other employees to stop associating with you etc (if you dare confront them about any of it they will say you have a bad attitude or lie, especially if you involve higher ups). If you see a team with a very high turnover and the boss says they got rid of the "toxic employees" it sometimes means the boss is in fact the toxic employee

Well I’m in training and when I make a mistake he gets very angry with me but I fix it because I see what I did wrong when he brings it to my attention and I don’t make the same mistake again. My coworker makes the same mistakes but then he talks to him like he’s his buddy. So I took on a lot of work and tried to over perform and he told me I working on too much and took some work from me and I am so confused. I have been learning this position for 6 months and there are so many exceptions I am still learning. I have had the basics of this job from the very beginning. I kissed ass and agreed with him and worked hard and he still takes his anger out on me.

What do you do if you see issues, proactively try to fix them, but your boss just undermines your progress by taking an issue with all of your solutions even without reasonable explanation? I have been in situations where I have collaborated and spearheaded initiatives with colleagues and we have all agreed on the initiative and implemented it but are then reprimanded for doing because the boss is still not happy with anything you do. If a boss doesn’t like you - I really don’t think there is a solution other than the boss leaving or you leaving.

Unfortunately one of my old bosses played favourites. Even when l do things that others don't do but he believes l "made it up" or "falsified the figures".
When we had an employee survey our dept had the LOWEST positive feedback of all the national operations in the country and lowest morale but he blames others NOT HIMSELF!.
There was no way l could learn from him because the organisation had a policy to move manager to different depts to "multi skill them", he focused on the petty things time keeping, spelling mistakes, how long we have our lunch break but not on improving the dept.
PS he was an ex cop that was fired!

I work in a place where management has certain people targeted to not train & try to "encourage" to leave because otherwise you wont have "ability to do the work" & will end up being out the door anyway.
I have a pension i am trying to get time in for, & great benefits & pay i cannot get anywhere else.
I have done timed tests that are designed to fail & I have been only one out of about 10 people to pass. I should have documented that in email but took 2 years to now be issue. Everyone else who was on this list that upper management wants to get rid of, except one other, has retired or union got them into another department.
I had gained "points" to complete training & performing work i was given. It was basically work that the others are too busy to do. But now those points have simply been wiped out leaving me with last 2.5 years looking like i been sitting doing nothing.
I have been getting trained on software we use from coworkers so next job when i am asked "what have you been doing ?" I dont have to say, "playing games on my phone". Right now our department very low on work, a danger sign, & those who have not been on the short list are being trained.
Its hard to explain. Who are targeted is not clear.
Stress is only tolerable because if i can get my full pension, i will not have to continue being subject to intolerable bosses, constant over 40 hr workweek, & can just leave.

I have a question; I sometimes have to meet with leaders who aren’t on my team or manage me in any way, and today I had 2 of such meetings where said leader was really rude to me. In both, I was constantly interrupted which was especially tough in the first because I was trying to understand that leader’s criteria for the reports I was building for her. Her interruptions made it almost impossible for me to actually reach an understanding so I could help her. In the second call, the leader made the meeting go a half hour over time so he could talk at me about a broad high level issue I repeatedly told him I find not appropriate for me to make decisions about especially in a siloed way, excluding everyone else to whom the issue is more pertinent, but me saying this repeatedly did not get him to stop talking. It took me letting him know I had to pee to get him to be okay with ending the meeting.
Sooo my question is: how do you assert yourself and ask for respect from a senior manager or leader who isn’t exactly your boss but could still wield some power over you?

The boss at this Collections company over loads and dumps several projects to the Team Lead. She thinks she will be a manager in the future. The team lead since the beginning did and does not like me! It’s jealousy due to my way I complete and talk to the clients. Well overtime, she has influenced the Boss and the boss went as far as insulting me and giving me nasty looks. I am currently looking for a different job. My natural talent and efficiency will be much appreciated elsewhere. When a Boss insults you, the respect is lost. It’s time to look for a different job.

If I bring to her the issues AND fill all the gaps AND take the lion’s share of her job on as my own duties, yet I’m STILL targeted for micromanagement and nitpicked with criticisms at every turn with zero acknowledgment for what I do, then what?!?
