As a Canadian, Rush makes me a proud Canadian citizen. Amazing and iconic piece of music history. RIP Niel Peart
the first album I bought (mow the grass money mind you) 2112!!! Was 15.
@@kevinmurphy65 GREAT ALBUM.. I wasn't a huge fan. Great band all the same (and Neil) is one of the best drummers of all time
Ditto ! ✌❤🇨🇦
Le Studio was not even 30 minutes away from where I live in lower Laurantide up here in Quebec Canada. The video is a blend between the album studio recording session and a real TV video shot. You can see the different camera plans from real studio and video. This 3 mans band, a masterpiece in It"s whole style.
I'm an American who has been to Canada for business. Beautiful country, wonderful people! You should be proud brother. And Rush is amazing!
Neil Peart is one of the greatest drummer's of all time.
AGREED!!
@@AileenSenpai 🤘
The GOAT in my opinion
Agreed, my fav. too but lets not get into the Bonham vs. Neil thing here.
To me it’s Neil Peart #1 and Danny Carrey #2 all time.
This band has a special place in my heart 🫶🏼
RusH was composed of 3 compulsive perfectionist, and genuine good people that do not have any ego trips that have lead to the demise of many successful bands.
Truly GREAT musicians that are also truly great friends.... Resulting in some of the cleanest, tightest most amazing music ever made.
All of mine
This whole album, "Moving Pictures" is a masterpiece. Literally every track is worth your consideration. Scary to think this was released 41 years ago. RIP Neil.. You are sorely missed.
Dang, has it been that long already? Time flies man... whole album feels fresh still :D
My favorite song off Moving Pictures is The Camera Eye! Alex's solo is truly a work of art to behold! Quite possibly the best song RUSH ever wrote.
Limelight is my favorite Rush song. Red Barchetta is amazing too. Witch Hunt is great on that album too.
I agree. I do believe an album review is in order!
"Witch Hunt" is my favorite from that album.
Oh Neil, you are so dearly missed, as a musician, and as a great human! Forever in our hearts, the professor! Greetz to all Canadians from Belgium...
Rip 🙏
Iconic song. Aileen made an iconic and perhaps even a spiritual statement describing their play as "collective chaos". Didn't think it sounded like chaos because the timing and rhythm of everything is so precise, but there is a chaotic element in there. Rush was one of many bands of the 70s and 80s that my friends and I liked, but in retrospect, I've discovered that Rush was one of the most innovative and technical bands of that iconic era. I can hear the echoes of Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, and Jimmy Hendrix in their style and sound, especially with Alex Lifeson's guitar.
This is where Rush went from being guitar-driven to being drum-driven. Without the drums, this song is nothing.
Your reactions are gold. I will humbly request “Limelight” as your next Rush reaction.
Limelight is my favorite!!!
Yessss Limelight is sooo good!
Listen to. The camera eye. . And RED BARCHETTA. those 2 songs are awesome.
Heck, she needs to review the whole album!
“their own collective solo”. EXACTLY!
You have to listen to a Rush song 5 times.
Concentrate on the;
1. The Bass
2. The Drums
3. The Guitar
4. The Lyrics
Then listen to;
5. All 4 combined.
RUSH IS:
Geddy Lee: Bass guitars, Oberheim polyphonic; OB-X; Mini-Moog; and Taurus pedal Synthesizers, vocals
Alex Lifeson: Six and twelve string electric and acoustic guitars, Taurus pedals
Neil Peart: Drum kit, timbales, gong bass drums, orchestra bells, glockenspiel, wind chimes, bell tree, crotales, cowbells, triangles, plywood, tympani, and Symphonic Chimes
Thank you for expressing so much love for this music and the guys that make up Rush, really nice to see as an older guy who grew up worshiping Rush.
I feel his voice fits perfectly with this band and it’s as iconic as the way they mastered they’re instruments.
Neil Peart.
Admired for his talent, respected for his intellect, loved for his humanity.
RIP PROFESSOR.
One of my best friendships was from me humming the song "Countdown" while playing chess with a workmate on a break outside in Vegas in '98. She recognized it and started singing it which nearly shocked me, especially since they certainly don't have a reputation of many female fans. We became instant friends.
We shared in Neil's passing even though I now live in Omaha, NE. And now I lost her last June, the most devastating loss outside of family I've had to experience.
RIP Colleen. Say hi to Neil if you can. Miss you so much.
Probably the 3 most prolific musicians ever to play in the same band together. You've got a 40 year plus catalog to enjoy from these dudes!
RUSH! another great rabbit hole to go down!
Rush the greatest Canadian Band of all time. Don't be sad that Neil Peart is gone, be happy that he gifted us with music.
I was lucky enough to see Rush (5/16/1981 Largo Capital Center) for their Moving Pictures tour. They totally blew me and everyone else there away!
Pert’s drumming sounds like it is all over the place, while being the tightest and most cohesive playing in history.
The drummer is the one who writes all the music and got in the rock and roll hall of fame
The entire band is beyond amazing coming out of only three guys and even in concert it's still just the three of them. And yes, Neil is the GOAT!! No debate
Aileen, Peart was voted number 1 in so many rock drummer polls, including Utube, Rolling Stone and Billboard mags. He also was a huge reader who had his own library with everything from Clancy to King to Tokien, and it showed in all the lyrics he wrote for Rush.
Neil Peart was the best percussionist this world has seen to date!! All the others that came after him learned from him, he was called "The Professor " . I was so saddened to hear of his passing, we lost a legend for sure!!
this video was filmed at le studio near from where i was born. it was a mythical recording studio north of montreal. neil peart had a log cabin in this area up until his death. it was his favorite place.
This came out almost 43 years ago and is still just as awesome as the first time I heard it.
YYZ Live In Rio: a really powerful bass riff, an insane drum kit, and 40,000 fans singing along to an instrumental piece; guaranteed to blow your mind!!
🎤 🎹 🎸 🥁 🎸 🔥 🔥 🔥
Fan since 1977, and 30+ live shows... best band ever. Three words: La Villa Strangiato.
Rush "working man" (LIVE In Cleveland) is mind blowing, what a performance that is.
Yes he's the greatest Rock & Roll drummer to walk on earth.
In your fanboy mind maybe.
I've probably watched every Tom Sawyer reaction video that's on UA-cam, and you are the first person to actually understand the literary significance of the song's name. It's nice to see that at least one person on the internet did their homework in school.
RUSH is THE PERFECT EXAMPLE of the fluidity of MASTERING TIME SIGNATURES! I play drums and there are a few things that you need to know about Neil Peart’s ( pronounced PEER-T) character: First he writes the lyrics so he knows in advance what TYPE of song it’s meant to be ie ballad, driver, etc. Second he COMPOSES on the drums… like a carpenter who looks at a set of blueprints before building the object. Neil lays out a SKETCH in his mind of the VOICES of the drumset and builds the song from there. He is also a great LISTENER knowing when NOT to step over Geddy’s singing or Alex’s solos! Finally, he had perfect timing and fluidity of time changes. He said himself that it’s not about COUNTING the time signatures as much as fluid motion to change the tempo without counting: in other words it should FLOW! He hates repeating the same drum patterns in the same song meaning if he plays a fill one way the first time around he will play it differently the second time around. IE. Rolls down the toms the first time around and triplets or quads (all four limbs) the second time around. In short there will NEVER be another like him on planet earth 🌍 🌏 🌎! REST IN PEACE PROFESSOR!
With heart felt admiration and sincerity!
Gary
If you love the drums and bass, this Canadian band is for you. RIP Neil, Alex...
I saw Rush many times live. I was never disappointed. They all master musicians! R.I.P. Professor 😭
My favorite band of all time!!! My best friend and I would play Time Stand Still over and over in the summer of 94. He sadly passed away in 2006. But I still play that song and remember him.
I wore out my cassette of Moving Pictures.
Absolutely one of my all time favorite albums.
One of the finest drummers ever!!!
Your favorite drummers favorite drummer.
What a treat. And surprise.
Haven't watched yet. Just surprised to see Rush on this channel. They have some doozies for you.
I've been a bass player for 55 years southern rock and there timing is perfect and I mean perfect. That is so hard to do when your in that setting.
Fun story... In the documentary Beyond the Limelight about Rush, at one point Geddy and Alex are in a little restaurant and the waitress walks up and asks "Aren't you Geddy Lee?" he says yes. She asks for his autograph, and Geddy asks her "Do you want his autograph as well?" referring to Alex, and she says sure... clearly not knowing who Alex is. Alex starts going off about how cool it is to be sitting next to the famous Geddy Lee. But in a way that clearly says he's giving Geddy a hard time and not that he's actually jealous or anything. Alex and Geddy had been friends since high school.
Alex is one of the greatest guitar players ever, he just had the fortune of playing with Geddy Lee and Neil Peart... Who are both GOATs with their instruments, and so they tended to outshine him. But Alex never seemed to care, he enjoyed making music with his best friends too much to worry about the rock star life and fame and the rest.
If you're ever looking for something fun to watch I recommend the documentary a great deal, you get to see people like Dave Grohl go on about how amazing Neil truly was. Another fun bit is the end where they try to play Tom Sawyer on Rock Band (the video game) and get booed off the stage... just before they go onto a real stage and play the song for real.
They're all overrated fanboy. GOAT? Lol. That's funny.
never get tired of Neil's crushing drum break in this
The legendary “Le Studio” recording studio in Morin Heights, Quebec where Bowie, Chicago, The Police, The Cult, Sting, The Bee Gees and Cat Stevens recorded iconic records, just to name a few.
With Rush it's the same as with Babymetal: Do em live! Imagine Geddy playing Bass while singing and playing keys with his feet at the same time, one of the best drummers of all time and a guitarist so special and with so much feel (plus Alex sometimes plays Bass pedals, especially when Geddy is on the keyboard and cant play bass). Three people that sound like 5 or more...PLEASE do them live. Greets from Germany and Rock On !
Probably their most Commercial hit, but a CLASSIC, TIMELESS TO ME!!!
MY FAVORITE RUSH SONG, but they have so much more, great band, Neil passed away from Brain Cancer last year I think, sad 😔 😟 🙁 😥
Back then, there were a few bands that had drummers set up like that. We were spoiled.
Tom Sawyer one of the best of all time....
The video was recorded at the famous Le Studio recording studio. Le Studio was a residential recording studio in the Laurentian Mountains near the town of Morin-Heights, Quebec, Canada. It was built in 1972 by the former sound engineer for John Lennon's solo work, André Perry and partners. The studio has since been destroyed in a fire. Besides Rush, The Police, Bee Gees, Chicago, David Bowie, April Wine, Cat Stevens and many others recorded there. In a similar way to this Rush video, in April Wine's - I Like to Rock (Official Music Video) the studio features prominently. Aileen please react to that video too! It features great Canadian power rock with great vocals from the brilliant Miles Goodwyn.
You have such a beautifuly electric smile 😃 so glad you enjoyed Rush.
"La Villa Strangiato" is a must.
My God this woman is absolutely gorgeous❤❤..... And I love her genuine reactions
It's Rush's masterpiece, for sure.
You should really dive into some live concert footage and see just how much they enjoy performing. These are three master-class musicians, including perhaps the best drummer to walk this planet.
RUSH is so good Aileen can’t even keep up with air guitar and air drums. Love you Aileen.
Triumph was always said to be a Rush want to be, I love them both, but everyone always forgets that Genisis was also from Canada
Geddy Lee (bass) has said many times that they treated guitar solos as "band solos". You keyed right in on that!
"...it just shows you that they really, really care." That absolutely made my heart leap and I choked up there. I, like so many Rush fans, have been with them for so, so long and we absolutely know that to be true. And it is so very seldom that it is voiced in that way to someone so new to their music as yourself here in this video. After losing Neil, and consequetially the band, our hearts are still quite raw from the reality that life, as it does has left us. You are an incredibly beautiful soul and we all wish the best for you. Maybe one day we might become fans of your music as well, as you might take some of the influence that you have gleened from this amazing experience that is, was Rush. Shanti...
Wow Aileen, thanks for getting to this classic by Rush. Really loved your reaction. Can't wait to see more Rush on the channel. So many great tracks to recommend, you can't go wrong with any of the following:
YYZ Live in Rio
Working Man Live in Cleveland
Limelight
The Spirit of Radio
Xanadu Live 1981 Exit Stage Left tour
Freewill
Jacob's Ladder
many many more but that is a start.
Thank you for all these recommendations 🤗❤️
very good list I was thinking of YYZ in RIO or Xanadu exit stage left -you should do this one the other older live version was shot with no audience.
@@AileenSenpai Oh my good god Working man Live in Cleveland! Yes! That is like the ultimate epitome of a live jam session. You’d love it!
I will 2nd YYZ Live in Rio. In fact that whole concert was amazing.
Obligatory La Villa Strangiato mention, hemispheres is absolutely great.
Check out Neil Peart's drum solo in Frankfort, Germany. Been a RUSH fan since 1977
“In this van it’s Rush,
ALL RUSH
ALL THE TIME!”
RusH was composed of 3 compulsive perfectionist, and genuine good people that do not have any ego trips that have lead to the demise of many successful bands.
Truly GREAT musicians that are also truly great friends.... Resulting in some of the cleanest, tightest most amazing music ever made.
And they never got into the excesses that many famous musicians get into.
My mom raised me with Rush among others. I've seen them live 7 times and every time it's a better performance. They sound so good live it's hard to describe properly. When I was a teen we got 3rd row seats... they were right there... underrated only to those who don't really listen.
By far one of the most amazing bands ever. Every single one is so talented its unreal.
Makes me so proud to be canadian. Especially after watching beyond the lighted stage. BTW YYZ live in Rio would be an amazing reaction ☺️😁
You just witnessed a LEGEND. I dont even have to mention his name. Yall know who imma talkin bout!!
True masters of their craft,
And yes, I was fortunate to see them 3 times live
So lucky. I never got the chance.
Saw the drummer do a solo with his feet
Sticks over his head
Sounded like a freakin stampede
Great reaction on the greatest band of all time! Xanadu live on Exit Stage Left shows them playing this masterpiece live in their prime.
I was lucky enough to see them live 5 times in the 80s. They blew me away each time. Words can’t explain the level these guys achieved.
Yes RUSH just makes U smile and even the casual listener recognizes the Masters at Work. RIP Neil Peart there can be only ONE
In the 80s in highschool, I listen to RUSH all the time. My girlfriend hated them. Where were you when I needed you ♥️
Alex and Geddy were friends in middle school. And they happened to turn out to be a couple of the best musicians on the planet.
So glad you made mention to the Neil "The Professor". To see his ability simply watch/listen to any drum solo he's done. Two to start with: All the World's a Stage ( live album) and live at Frankfurt (You Tube). Enjoy.
“Working Man” from Live in Rio is another must see.
And surprised you hadn't noticed or said anything if you did? Lead singer Geddy Lee played Sang played Bass and keyboards on this song.
You really need to watch a live version, tehn you realise just how great Rush really are, watching Geddy playing bass with one hand, keyboard with the other and a set of foot pedals, all while singing, then Alex is playing guitar and another set of foot pedals, and Neil RIP bud, simply killing it on the drums playing polyrhythms over a base 4/4, or 6/4
On many of their tours they would bring their own PA and crew, instead of renting one for the venue. I got to see them twice in Alpine Valley, WI. And they had the very best sound I have ever heard. I saw many bands at Alpine, and no one every had the live sound quality they did.
RIP Neil Peart (Professor)Arguably the best drummer to have lived
Your reaction was great......it reminded me of when I first heard it....40 years ago!! I was in Tottenham Court Road in London and heard it playing in a pub, some record company dude had got a copy days before the Album was released and he wanted to play it. The pub was rocking... been mesmerised since....Moving Pictures is an absolute classic album. Three geniuses at the peak of their creativity.....genuine masters of their art. Xanadu live 1981 from Exit Stage Left.....you'll never be the same again after watching it!!!@
I saw a comment once on that video that some guy's dad paid like $10,000 for a floor tile out of that studio where Tom Sawyer was recorded and the video was shot just so he could have a piece of music history when the studio was demolished.
Anyone in here that was around when this album came out in the early 80’s knows the impact of this. We got to feel this music back then and the 80’s era that surrounded us. Thank you rush. Hearing this brings back good memories of that time
Rush is definitely a starter. Rush is on all the House party play lists.
loved your great reaction to POLYPHIA-EGO DEATH feat STEVE VAI official music video, it's got to be the best music video of 2022. best wishes from the north east coast of England.
I saw Rush 5 times live - they are just simply powerful on stage. You swear there has to be 2 or 3 others offstage playing because there is no way 3 guys should be able to make all that sound. The highlight of any Rush show is the drum solo - every Rush fan should agree hands down that Neil (RIP Professor) was just magic. The old saying is - If Neil Peart isn't your favorite drummer, he is your favorite drummers favorite drummer. He has a solo here on the tube from a show in Frankfurt - you should check that out to get the appeal and the admiration fans have for him.
For a fantastic demo of how incredibly tight this trio was musically and as performers: YYZ (pronounced Zed!) Live in Rio, for a masterclass by The Professor, Neil Peart, his drum solo in Frankfurt (remembering always that his solos were mid-concert.. he played hard before AND after... just truly amazing!)
Xanadu, Natural Science, Jacob Ladder, the Trees, Big Money, Manhattan, New World Man, Analog Kids, Anthem, Presto or Roll the Bone, There's a lot of amazing Rush songs.
Been a RUSH fanatic since 1978. I have seen them 19 times live throughout the 80's, 90's and into the early 2000's. Favorite 70's album: 2112. Favorite 80's album: Grace Under Pressure.
Grace under pressure. Based.
@@ImTheSlime2112 I really LOVE Grace Under Pressure! One of my early 80's RUSH favorite albums, along with, yes, Signals! Hell, I even really dig, big time, Power Windows!
As a drummer, my biggest regret(music wise) is not seeing them live when I had the chances. The old saying is the Neil was your favorite drummers drummer.
At 4:26 this is exactly how I feel every time I hear that core memory drum roll. My goodness.
Back in the day, a good friend of mine & I cruise around town passing a fatty & listening to 2112. Grand old times!!
As far as I'm concerned, this music will grab almost anybody instantly, and ultimately compete for GOAT, there's simply no weak points. I very much regret never having seen them live. They put on such great shows. Check into Neil Peart's life if you wish. He went through a lot of bad things, his daughter died in a car crash, then his wife died of cancer. then died of cancer himself years later. But such a great mind, and not comfortable with the attention of fans. Brilliant, he wrote all Rush's lyrics. Meanwhile Alex is a clown, but a talented one. You think they're having fun here, watch them in concert.
Hey Aileen, it's been way too long since I've watched one of your videos and since I've seen your beautiful smiling face! I should really watch more because your niceness helps to counteract my chronic grumpiness. 😁 I'm not a big fan of some of Rush's music (usually the longer, over-the-top "bombastic" songs), but there are several songs which I really love and this is one of them. It has great songwriting and playing and it makes you want to play a giant air drum kit. I also love that Geddy, Alex and Neil are all humble, genuinely nice guys (RIP Neil) despite being killer musicians and rock stars.
"Tom Sawyer" is one of my personal favorites because of the way Rush brought to modern-day society the rebellious, forever young, mind-of-his-own, won't be bought off/fooled by the hypocritical "grown-ups" character of the Twain novels with their genius musical skills.
I mean, if a person already has that unconventional Tom Sawyer attitude in the world of today anyway, they can't help but feel even MORE powerful while listening to this song. ; )
My favorite band and arguably the most accomplished rock band ever. Just think, that was 42 years ago.
I watched your body movement and when you started moving your hands I could see that you were really getting in I'm 59 and saw them many times in concert, always a good concert.
It's Amazing that they show you in the video that Geddy Lee is the Lead Singer, Bassist and the Keyboardist (Even in live shows). Neil Peart (drummer) also writes all the lyrics. To see his full kit, check out his 9 minute live drum solo Live in Germany,
RUSH - THE Greatest Canadian Band, ever...and there is some thick competition. As far as the Greatest Rock Band ever, on the Planet, they are certainly in the runnings. Geddy sings, plays bass, keyboards, and other instruments.
Tom sawyeee!!! Slappin deh bass!
'Xanadu' live is incredible to watch. It's proven to be a fan favorite for so many years and if I could only take 1 Rush song with me on a desert island for the rest of my life, it would be Xanadu.
That would also be _my_ choice 😊 But it'd have to be the 'Exit...Stage Left' version, preferably with 'The Trees' before it 😁
they are so damn good that you forget that there is only 3 of them
RUSH Moving Pictures tour was my first time to see RUSH and played the hell out of that cassette.
Not just band members, but 3 true friends and family! And GREAT musicians!
