Thanks for the video RIP Neil Peart. Young kids now have no idea of how much radio was apart of our lives back in the 60's and 70's. Rush best Canadian rock band ever. Lyrically, the song is a lament on the change of FM radio from free-form to commercial formats during the late 1970s. The Toronto-based station CFNY-FM-which had not abandoned free-form programming-is cited as an inspiration for the song
There's no negative to rush being available. Aileen, I've played bass for 40 years. When you practice and feel ANY frustration, stop trying and put the bass down. The longer you remain frustrated, the longer it will be for you to make it work. I absolutely love female musicians, and if you want inspiration, Mohina Dey on bass, Esmeralda Spalding on electric AND acoustic bass AND vocals
One of the best bands of all time. RIP Neil Pert the amazing drummer. Other great hits include “Limelight”, “Subdivisions”….just to name a few. Rock on!! 🎶🎸🤘
As you listen to Rush, you have to remember this is a trio where each member is one of the best with their instrument. Rush are known for their tempo changes. Seeing one of their live videos shows just how versatile they were. Geddy switches from bass to keyboards and sometimes plays synth with his feet while performing the craziest bass riffs. Check out YYZ in Rio or Working Man in Cleveland.
Technically, most changes they made were time signature changes, not tempo changes. As a drummer, this is an important distinction for me. Tempo (sometimes also called the meter) is usually expressed on this song usuing the term "Allegro" and annotated by a quarter note equal to 135 beats per minute. That is what one would normally set a metronome (click track) to. In this song, they go to a "half-time feel" quite a few times. To the pure listener it sounds like they are going half as fast in that break, but in reality the tempo is the same. On drums, this can be done merely by playing the snare on beat four only instead of on two and four. In the case of that reggae feel that Aileen noted, the sole snare hit happens on beat 3. Time signature is how those beats are divided up, shown in what looks like a fraction. The top number is number of beats in a measure, and the bottom is the subdivision. Most rock is in "common time" or 4/4, which means four quarter notes each measure. Rush (and other progressive groups) will throw in a measure of 3/4 or 5/4 here and there , or even do whole verses alternating 3/4 and 4/4 (which some folks just count as 7.)
Rush's YYZ is one of my favorites, and is done really well live in Rio. You can see Geddy Lee's stacks of washing machines that he got as a joke aimed at the guitarist Alex Lifeson's amps. Occasionally you'll see a guy in a chicken suit come out and mess with the machines while they're playing. Rush is easily one of my favorite bands because of their unique sound and their pure talent and skill in musicianship. Great band, and I'm glad to see you finally check them out!
He also used the props as a way to balance out the stage. Geddy played direct line into the sound board, he had no amps onstage. In order to balance the stage setup opposite Alex's stacks, they contrived the washing and rotisserie machines to keep it all even.
My daughter and I did this song back on January 25, 2021. Rush was one of my dad's favorite bands. He would listen to them all the time, so, naturally, I also became a Rush fan growing up. After he saw our reaction to it, and me passing that on to my daughter, he called me and told me he loved the reaction and we had a long amazing talk. Not even a month later, he was in the hospital with Covid. He was put on a ventilator never to wake up. I consider our reaction the last real moment we had together, even though we were 320 miles apart at the time. In the end, I can't not click on a good Rush reaction. They always hit me right in the feels.
Wow Matt that is awfully tough. I hope you and your family are all doing ok after such a loss. Have you heard Rush’s song The Garden live. Give it a spin it seems to be very therapeutic for some.
Powerful story, made me tear up, thank you for sharing this. I understand, I think. As much as I can, not having gone though something that specific. Lost my dad last year.
I'm a Metal head but Rush will forever hold a place in my heart. I'm a drummer and when Moving Pictures came out I was instantly and forever giving my heart and soul to DRUMS! Neil is my hero for now and forever!
Your smile never ceases to warm my heart ❤️ I’m so glad you reacted to one of my favorite Rush songs. The others are *Working Man* , *Limelight* , *Tom Sawyer* , *Closer To The Heart* , *Subdivisions* , *YYZ* & *Fly By Night*
This song reminds me of being a kid and riding around in my brother's 70 Chevy Nova and this being cranked up to 11, cause when my brother listened to Rush, the entire city listened to Rush whether they liked it or not lol
Beverly Hills Cop.... I remember you used to drive around that blue Chevy Nova; what are you driving now? same crappy blue Chevy Nova. You think its too late to study art?
Just now saw this. So glad you're checking them out. Rush has NINETEEN studio albums - and almost all of it is well worth checking out. There really is something for almost everyone.
Thank you for your reaction to this WONDERFUL song, The Spirit of Radio. Your reaction was very similar to my own, the very first time I experienced it as a youth. At the end, I didn't expect the great tribute to their wonderful drummer, Neil Peart! Brought a few tears to my eyes. But then I imagined, what a GREAT band it must be up in Heaven with all the wonderful musicians we've lost over the years. Many many Rush fans knew this, but it wasn't really common knowledge. Neil Peart wrote the lyrics to most of the Rush songs. RIP Neil.
Nice reaction Aileen, Rush is legendary, The Spirit of Radio is now 42 years old, it's hard to believe sometimes, but it still sounds as good today as it did when it came out in 1980. Neal Peart's nickname was "The Professor" their is a classic saying, "Neal Peart is your favorite drummer's favorite drummer" he was an absolute legend, R.I.P. Neal. Continue to enjoy your Rush journey, and as always, stay Metal young lady. 😊😊🤘🤘🤘🤘🎶🎶🎶
FYI> Some of the scenes where "Parts" explode out of something, are Symbols from their Album Covers or Themes. Also, the Lyric> "The words of the "PROFITS" were written on the Studio Walls" NOT PROPHETS! The theme is about the Record Companies Pressuring groups and Making THEIR Profits!!!
You want to listen to Xanadu off their album A Farewell To Kings. Hell, you should check out the whole album and go down the rabbit hole to understand the songs.
Hi have a listen to 2112 by rush. You will be blown away by it. There are not many albums that I can't live without but this is definitely one of them. The track 2112 is the first half of the album so it is a long one
Fantastic reaction. It's lovely to see someone younger listen to Rush with great intelligence and a knowledgeable ear. So refreshing. And yeah, it's Rush. Masterclass musicians all.
Thanks for doing this. I regret never seeing them live. For a group originally from my region here in Canada. Your thoughtful commentary and appreciation for music is infectious. Starting as a drummer Rush was some of the first songs I practiced & played often. My appreciation for Rush is a lifetime thing. Thank you so much Aileen.
The best videos to watch them live is 1. “Xanadu” from exit stage left 1981 2. “Working man” live from Cleveland time machine tour. 3. Neal peart drum solo live from Frankfurt. Greatest band in history my all time favorite. Saw them in concert over 25 times.
….a better example than the overrated XANADU is Bytor and the Snowdog from the same concert. Don’t believe me, listen for yourself side by side….It’s not even close…
One likes to believe in the freedom of music But glittering prizes and endless compromises Shatter the illusion of integrity, yeah- best lyrics in the song
Thanks for the great reaction. Rush is the prototype of progressive rock and influenced so many other bands. They have so many great songs, Please Please react to the whole 2112 song. It will blow you away if you dig tempo changes. Rush fans know what's up. ✌️♥️
I'm so jealous of people who get to hear RUSH for the first time 🥺 I came out of the womb hearing them on my dad's giant pioneer speakers! Saturday's were all about music in my house when I was a kid. No TV....just awesome music ❤️
“Off on your way hit the open road, there is magic at your fingers For the spirit ever lingers, undemanding contact in your happy solitude…” Best line ever written about jammin down the highway solo! RIP Professor 💔
When you said playing a very short lick over and over perfectly can be incredibly difficult. I've been playing since 1985. A long time, and that hasn't and probably never will get easy. Bend a string a little too much or not enough and you can hear it. You were dead on on that one. THE greatest rock drummer . Every great drummer will say that. Great choice. This music is what I learned to play on. I was 15 in 1985 when I started playing. No cell phones, no internet, and no everything that we have now. It's sooo great to see you young ones who get into this music. It was what defined me because of my guitar. It was all I did. I hear things in songs that non players don't, and it's vocally or the other instruments. When you learn a new song or riff on the guitar, you should put HUGE effort to learn it by ear. Just sit and figure it out. Replay it over and over. That's how you develop the ear. The parts you can't get, go to UTube and watch GUITAR LESSONS 365. He's amazing and has a lesson for every song in existence. Learn to tune your guitar by harmonics. Tune the low E and then manually tune the others without a tuner. Teach your ear.
The best percussionist and songwriter to ever live (R.I.P. Professor) and was such a great human being. I can listen to Neil's interviews all day. I saw Rush 3 times (Subdivisions, Power Windows & Clockwork Angels) and they were always incredible. Any chance you get to watch them live it is a treat still today. You could make a solid argument that they're the greatest band of all-time. Any song on Moving Pictures is worth a listen as I believe is their masterpiece, but I'm a 40+ year fan and I love all of their stuff except maybe Caress of Steel.
40 plus years of not just being in a band together but their bond and friendship was strong. I'm 50 and Rush was one of my favorite bands. RIP Neil Pert.
I was fortunate enough to see them 22 times in concert.. Alex never Missed a lick ! His E string broke once, I forget which song he was playing then, The Tech Had a new guitar out there for him, In like 5 seconds.. Is amazing band live.. As an aside, I walked into Herb's bar in Friday Harbor Washington, May of 2017, And there sat Neil Peart..😍 You could have knocked me over with a feather.. What a gentleman. I had read all of his books, So I knew he was somewhat of an introvert.. I went easy on him.. Beautiful human being.
The Spirit of Radio is also the realities that the record company puts on an artist to make a HIT SONG….Their like the hits the hits I don’t hear any hits make hit songs or radio won’t play you! The talent’s manager feels that pressure too that he or she are sandwiched in between the Artist and the record company to make hits and keep them coming!
Aileen Did you notice those DJ's during this video? All of them helped Rush by playing songs of Rush back in mid-70's especially ones in Cleveland's WMMS 100.7. That station was the 1st to play a Rush song. I listen this station Monday thru Friday on my phone during work.
It’s said that “in the billions of years that the Earth has been around… aren’t we lucky to have lived in the the same time as Neil. (Yes, those concerts were magic. I feel honored to have experienced.)
I just discovered you.... and seeing your reactions on your face and seeing how your soul just vibes to the music, and how well you describe how it makes you feel honestly moves me so much I started crying. You get it. Your soul truly understands this stuff. As a human who feels the same you feel, it's truly beautiful.
Alex Lifeson is a superb and often underrated guitarist. His accents on this song are amazing. Remember this is just 3 guys emitting a fountain of gorgeous sound.
Definitely nostalgic for me having grown up in the 70's and the radio was how you discovered new music and and became the soundscape of your life.I think the lyrics and music captured this essence excellently. I would recommend Tom Sawyer, Limelight, and subdivisions for future listens, Cheers
In case you were wondering what that “talking hand” motion I guess what you call it was, Geddy used to do that live to signal everyone to sing along with him and my god was it freaking incredible. When I say EVERYONE sang along, I mean EVERYONE. There will never be another band like Rush man. 40 years, 3 of the same friends for practically all of it. And of course Rest in piece to Neil Peart…one of the best drummers there ever was.
Neil Peart literally road around the globe learning different drum styles from different cutures. To call Neil Peart's "Drum Solo" a drum solo does not even do what he does justice. That performance needs a different name. You can argue a lot about greatest guitarist, bassist, but very few will argue about Neil Peart,
With Rush you need to not only focus on the melodies and time signature changes but also the lyrics. RIP to their lyricist Neil Peart. IMHO the most underrated band ever.
I love the Donna Halper holding the RUSH debut album! We Rush fans all owe to her memory a debt of gratitude for her dedication to getting the word out there here in the USA by keeping Working Man in her rotation after the album's release.
Aileen, welcome to one of the most impressive rabbit holes in all of music! Undoubtably there will be numerous suggestions on what songs to react to to next, so I'll simply look forward to whatever you pick. As always, LOVING your enthusiasm and musical knowledge you bring every reaction!
Simply one of the greatest bands ever From Permanent Waves they went on to give us Moving Pictures in my opinion a top five album of all time Genius God Bless Neil Peart Thank you so much RUSH for the greatest music
The amazing thing is that I've heard this song LITERALLY hundreds of times since 1981 and it never EVER gets old. It's truly amazing and mindblowing every single time! Subscribed. :)
Definitely check out "Xanadu" from Exit Stage Left. Live performance with so many tempo changes. You will love the whole performance. 🙏 Please do this song!!
Hard to believe this song is now 42 years old. Fortunately, musical perfection is timeless. - Check out the Rush song "Red Barchetta" and the Road-And-Track shorty story 'A Nice Morning Drive' for a great follow up.
This song came out Jan 1 1980 and I've heard it a million times. I've seen Rush 22 times in concert. I loved watching you react to this song for the first time and loved your reaction. RIP Neil Peart, The Professor, The GOAT!!
@@Matty0923 so this was the 2nd time I’d seen them on the Hemisphere’s Tour, the first being March of that year. It took multiple listens to truly appreciate Hemispheres (my favorite Rush album) but when I heard Spirit of Radio, I was immediately smitten with the song. The night before the Permanent Waves release there was a syndicated radio preview, and I instantly remembered Spirit of Radio when it played. To me, it’s the perfect Rush song, especially when introducing Rush to new listeners. It’s in my top 3 including La Villa Strangiato, Xanadu and Spirit of Radio. How ‘bout you?
@@conchrepublictheband The first time I saw Rush was Moving Pictures tour I believe I was 14. Xanadu and La Villa Strangiato are definitely 2 of my favorite Rush songs also. I'd say my favorite 5 Rush albums are 2112, Moving Pictures, A Farewell To Kings, Hemispheres and Permanent Waves. I'd put these consecutive 5 albums against any 5 albums from any other group. Clockwork Angels was a great album and a perfect way to go out.
One night in 1981 (I think) I waited outside the stage door at the Odeon (Birmingham, UK). A roadie told us to go to the foyer (the Odeon doubled as a cinema/concert venue). There were about a dozen of us and we all expected the band to flee as soon as we’d moved. Nevertheless we did as we were asked. And there, behind a counter, as I remember it, were Neil, Geddy and Alek. All I had was my concert ticket, which in those days were quite small, but all three signed it. I was so awestruck I only managed to mumble to one person, Geddy , “could you sign this please Geddy” and with a smile he just said “sure”. Sadly I eventually lost the ticket, but not the memory. Rush fun fact, Geddy is actually Gary, but his mom (a Holocaust survivor) had a thick Yiddish twang, and when she said his name, it actually came out as Geddy…. At least to his friends, particularly Alex, who has the most outrageous sense of humour. So it stuck. You can’t go wrong with Rush, and I think I recommended Neil’s Frankfurt solo in a recent reaction of yours I watched. That would be a good next stop, introducing you to Rush live, which is by far the best way to experience them, but also allowing you to understand why Neil earned the title “your favourite drummer’s favourite drummer”. Incredible as this may seem to diehard fans, but until 2020 I regarded Rush as my favourite band. Then I found Lovebites. For someone festooned with Rush tattoo artwork, lyrics, symbols, that’s one hell of a statement. Oh, and I’ll end this monologue by telling you that the live version of any Rush song is indistinguishable (most think better) from the original. I’ll let that sink in, because during the performance of “Xanadu”, Alek plays 3 instruments, Geddy plays 4, and sings, and Neil has a full percussion section around him, including tubular bells. They were true masters of their craft.
There is SO MUCH history here. Rush is my favorite band of all times. You have to dig into their catalog and you MUST watch their live videos so you can enjoy their musicianship. Enjoy! RIP Neil Peart.
This song never fails to bring me back to where I need to be emotionally when I'm feeling down. this is a very uplifting song for me. Your appraisal of it is much appreciative. Rush is well known for time signature changes and the complexity of their compositions. Enjoy the depths that Rush can offer you and any musically inclined rockers!
I heard this on the radio like most in 1980. It's the 1st song I remember hearing by Rush. The lyrics, each instrument parts, time changes, it put them on the pop music map and more greater things came soon thereafter.
Huge rabbit hole here. Xanadu is a must. Witch Hunt is fantastic. Bytor and the Snowdog is another, earlier Rush and it's another great journey. 2112 the whole side is yet another epic journey. Camera Eye, Vital Signs also greats. For more commercial tunes Tom Saywer has some of the coolest drum fills ever. Red Barchetta was a good radio hit. Check out some old live footage. They're 3 guys who put out sooooo much sound. Geddy often played bass with his hands, keyboards/synth with his feet and sang . Amazingly talented people.
Oh boy! the Rush rabbit hole begins for you. Very exciting! I was fortunate to see them live 3 times and I have the Self-titled Album art (Rush) tattoo'd on my forearm. Set some time to listen to the song 2112 in it's entirety. Have fun with Rush, they are masters of their craft.
A three-piece band with sound big enough for the largest stadiums. Three absolutely masterful musicians, brilliant compositions and always on the leading edge of technological innovations. Superlatives seem inadequate to communicate how truly special this band was, is and will forever be. Neill Peart elevated drums from simple percussion to the highest art form. Geddy Lee became the prototypical prog/rock vocalist, top tier bassist and master of the keys and Alex Lifeson, a top ten guitarist, is often overshadowed by the larger-than-life drummer and vocalist. But, you can hear the wizardry cast by each member of this trio... The catalog is long, the content diverse and the performances dynamic. Founded by Lifeson, John Rutsey and Jeff Jones in 1968, RUSH dropped Jones very early in favor of Geddy Lee but did not replace Rutsey until 74. The lineup never changed again until the band retired in 2015. The retirement made permanent in '18, when Rush disbanded with the announcement of Peart's health issues.
"Xanadu" from early (77) Rush is an all time favorite of the band. I was lucky enough to watch them play it in my hometown in 1990...one of my favorite memories!
Rush drummer and lyricist Neil Peart explained this song in an interview with Billboard magazine: "'The Spirit Of Radio' was actually written as a tribute to all that was good about radio, celebrating my appreciation of magical moments I'd had since childhood, of hearing 'the right song at the right time.' However, [the song's] celebration of the ideals of radio necessarily seemed like an attack on the reality - on the formulaic, mercenary programming of most radio stations, with music the last of anyone's concerns. And yes, it was really ironic that such a song became popular on radio, though it was a kind of litmus test. Some radio guys who 'got it' could hear the song and think, 'That's the way it ought to be,' while others - the shallow, swaggering salesmen-of-the-air - could be oblivious to the song's meaning and proudly applaud themselves, 'That's about me!
"One likes to believe in the freedom of music , But glittering prizes and endless compromises Shatter the illusion of integrity, yeah!" In the words of our younger generation, "Straight up Bars!" R.I.P. Neil Peart Master Drummer, Master Poet (lyricist)
If you like tempo changes, holy cow have you found the right band! My personal favorite is "La Villa Strangiato" - check out their official video, which was actually a live studio recording (not the album version, but they're so good it's hard to tell the difference). But my recommendation for your next one would be their "Working Man" live in Cleveland. When they were just getting started, a DJ in Cleveland was one of the first to spin their record, and that's where they got a foothold in that they kept for over 40 years. They never forgot, and that version of that song is one of the most amazing things I've ever listened to! I enjoyed your reaction - keep diving down the Rush rabbit-hole; there's 40+ years of fantastic music to catch up on!
Great reaction. I am looking forward to your journey down the Rush rabbit hole. If Pink Floyd is the King of Progressive Rock, Rush has to be considered as one of the Royalty, for they were so incredible with pushing the edge and yet still enjoyable to listen to as a listener. Unlike Pink Floyd and Yes, Rush always seemed to be more upbeat and less heavy, even though they didn't shy away from any topic as inspiration for a song, their complete vibe was usually more positive than negative. Their live shows were incredible, and later in their careers their intros and intermission (yes, they had intermissions in their sets) were so unique and enjoyable that they became a thing of their own, even making a few videos of the band playing the different parts that were portrayed or interacting with the special guests that were highlighted. For those reasons, before you finish your rabbit hole journey, be sure to check out some of the intros and intermission videos as they are usually placed in a video of a live version of a song that they used to open the concert with or as you can guess, came back from intermission with. R40 tour is one I hold dear, as I worked on that tour, and got to work with my late Brother-in-law, as Rush was his all-time favorite band, so seeing that joy is a moment I hold higher than most.
RUSH is THE PERFECT EXAMPLE of the fluidity of MASTERING TIME SIGNATURES! I play drums and there are a few things that you need to know about Neil Peart’s ( pronounced PEER-T) character: First he writes the lyrics so he knows in advance what TYPE of song it’s meant to be ie ballad, driver, etc. Second he COMPOSES on the drums… like a carpenter who looks at a set of blueprints before building the object. Neil lays out a SKETCH in his mind of the VOICES of the drumset and builds the song from there. He is also a great LISTENER knowing when NOT to step over Geddy’s singing or Alex’s solos! Finally, he had perfect timing and fluidity of time changes. He said himself that it’s not about COUNTING the time signatures as much as fluid motion to change the tempo without counting: in other words it should FLOW! He hates repeating the same drum patterns in the same song meaning if he plays a fill one way the first time around he will play it differently the second time around. IE. Rolls down the toms the first time around and triplets or quads (all four limbs) the second time around. In short there will NEVER be another like him on planet earth 🌍 🌏 🌎! REST IN PEACE PROFESSOR! With heart felt admiration and sincerity! Gary
"the best band in the Galaxy", "the Fathers of Prog rock", whatever you call em, they are the only band in my ranking that Babymetal couldn't overtake (and that says a lot). Three geniusses from Canada who created musical epic legends. And as with any other good band, you have to do them life! See Geddy sing while playing bass AND sometimes pedal synths and keyboard, Alex ruling the guitar and sometimes play Bass pedals aswell, and finally our great Professor Neil Peart on drums: one of the greatest drummers ever (R.I.P.), if not THE greatest (who am I to decide?). They will continue to amaze you for sure! Greets from Germany, 'nuff said!
I went through my teen years with them as one of the band I liked. Went to their concerts, bought their albums. Growing up listening to them. Never realized how great they were until later in life. It was just another great band back then. You should react to Rush "The Trees". If you listen to the words. It has nothing to do with trees.
The "Spirit of Radio" is tightly tied to CFNY Toronto, which was at the leading edge (The Edge was their tag name) of the shift from typical rock to "new music."
Rush is rock royalty and a Canadian Treasure. RIP Neil Peart the greatest drummer that ever lived.
There's no negative to rush being available. Aileen, I've played bass for 40 years. When you practice and feel ANY frustration, stop trying and put the bass down. The longer you remain frustrated, the longer it will be for you to make it work. Glad u are getting into Rush a bit...those dudes saved my life..no joke...You are in for an amazing ride.
One of the best bands of all time. RIP Neil Pert the amazing drummer. Other great hits include “Limelight”, “Subdivisions”….just to name a few. Rock on!! 🎶🎸🤘
Peart even
Red Barchetta's still a personal fav as well as Fly By Night
masters of the universe
@Skynyrd 67 lol, watched a guy reacting to Eruption, calling them Van Hallen, no dude long A sound!
My favorites, 2112, LA Villia Stangiato, Xanadu, The Trees(whole Hemispheres lp.)and Whole Moving Pictures!
I normally discourage people from reacting to live performances of songs they've never heard before, but that YYZ in Rio performance is an exception.

A friend of mine once had a bonus question on a test. The question was "Name 3 geniuses". His answer: "Rush"
Full marks.
Most don't know this, but there are 99 instruments...Each member plays 33...They are just modest about their talents.
Rush in one word : LIMELIGHT !
I love when a person can articulate and comprehend the music they are reacting to. Rush is my favorite band of all time, look forward to more Rush.
The are also very talented comedic actors. You should check out their skits on their concert DVD’s
Yyz is my favorite. Love this band. Such good concerts

The live in Rio version is definitely the version she should experience first. No doubt.
I'm sorry dude :( Glad you all got to share that though. Stay strong!
I'm a Metal head but Rush will forever hold a place in my heart. I'm a drummer and when Moving Pictures came out I was instantly and forever giving my heart and soul to DRUMS! Neil is my hero for now and forever!
I tear up every time I see the empty drum kit at the end.
Me too! Fan since 1976.
MORE RUSH, PLEASE!!!!
You will not regret it. Most talented group of rockers ever.
Powerful Trio. Bearing a gift beyond price , almost free.
Going down the Rush rabbit hole. No turning back. Great reaction!
Glad you enjoyed :)
Love from Canada!🇨🇦 So glad you enjoyed! Neil Peart once compared a drum solo to “doing quantum physics while running a marathon”
😂😂😂
You have now reacted to my top 3 favorite bands RUSH, Tool and Pink Floyd ♥️ much respect!
Just now saw this. So glad you're checking them out.
Rush has NINETEEN studio albums - and almost all of it is well worth checking out. There really is something for almost everyone.
The Professor was hands down one of the greatest drummers to ever grace a stage with his presence. He also wrote most of the band's lyrics.
RIP.
Your smile says it all. Tom Sawyer video shot in the recording studio, so a safe follow up.
I always heard...whoever your favorite drummer is, their favorite drummer is Neil Peart
Total props to whoever created that video.
Hi have a listen to 2112 by rush. You will be blown away by it. There are not many albums that I can't live without but this is definitely one of them. The track 2112 is the first half of the album so it is a long one
Definitely deep meaning behind it
Another live performance you will enjoy is “Best Intro Ever”. Welcome to RUSH.
Xanadu from Exit Stage Left. Job done.
The best videos to watch them live is
1. “Xanadu” from exit stage left 1981
2. “Working man” live from Cleveland time machine tour.
3. Neal peart drum solo live from Frankfurt.
Greatest band in history my all time favorite. Saw them in concert over 25 times.
I second those recommendations!! 🔥✌🏼
I agree wholeheartedly with these recommendations!
….a better example than the overrated XANADU is Bytor and the Snowdog from the same concert. Don’t believe me, listen for yourself side by side….It’s not even close…
@@thatsnice99 i love Bytor from all the worlds a stage. That guitar section is incredible !!
@@ay_ay_ron2112 especially the bass. It’s better for someone new to Rush to listen to Bytor before Xanadu….
One likes to believe in the freedom of music
But glittering prizes and endless compromises
Shatter the illusion of integrity, yeah- best lyrics in the song
Neil Peart - As a drummer he made you listen to the beat. As a lyricist, he made you pay attention to the words.
I will dine on Honeydew tonight!
Thanks for the great reaction. Rush is the prototype of progressive rock and influenced so many other bands.
They have so many great songs, Please Please react to the whole 2112 song. It will blow you away if you dig tempo changes. Rush fans know what's up.
✌️♥️
RUSH music is so full of suprises and they are the most sophisticated lyrics of any band
That was a beautiful video for an awesome song.
I'm so jealous of people who get to hear RUSH for the first time 🥺 I came out of the womb hearing them on my dad's giant pioneer speakers! Saturday's were all about music in my house when I was a kid. No TV....just awesome music ❤️
“Off on your way hit the open road, there is magic at your fingers
For the spirit ever lingers, undemanding contact in your happy solitude…”
Best line ever written about jammin down the highway solo!
RIP Professor 💔
OMG...my fellow viewers have said it all!
Neil Pert...RIP...the BEST Drummer of all time...hands down!....FACT!
Welcome to the wonderful world of Rush. Enjoy the journey.
Aileen, you are as infectious as this song itself! Great reaction!
i was one of the very lucky people to have seen this amazing band live.
Me too... 47 times
Not quite as lucky. took my son to see them at Clockwork Angels tour in '13 and R40 in '15. Sorely missed, RIP Neil. @@idonoywantthisaccount7675
Fun fact- Donna Halper from Cleveland really helped break Rush in the Us. That’s why she’s included in the montage.
This is Rush best song. It has no flaws, no gimmicks, and no dead parts to it…..
Idk...I mean, Limelight...
@@adammichener987 Limelight has no special qualities to it, and has no instrumental. Limelight is not even close to Spirit of Radio.
RIP Neil Pert! Living in the North Olympic Peninsula Rush was one of the most iconic music bands ever! Brings back memories of growing up.
Aileen
Did you notice those DJ's during this video? All of them helped Rush by playing songs of Rush back in mid-70's especially ones in Cleveland's WMMS 100.7. That station was the 1st to play a Rush song. I listen this station Monday thru Friday on my phone during work.
Bassist here 40yrs. So much to see Rush take over your face.
It’s said that “in the billions of years that the Earth has been around… aren’t we lucky to have lived in the the same time as Neil. (Yes, those concerts were magic. I feel honored to have experienced.)
Looking forward to this reaction!👍
The drummer, although he is the quietest one in the band, wrote most of there songs, and I think he's one of the best rock drummers
A friend's once described Alex as 'the least most accomplished' 🤣. Three exceptional muscians
Geddy plays a mean bass almost always. Very groove oriented and just right in the mix
Definitely nostalgic for me having grown up in the 70's and the radio was how you discovered new music and and became the soundscape of your life.I think the lyrics and music captured this essence excellently. I would recommend Tom Sawyer, Limelight, and subdivisions for future listens, Cheers
The Professor...Rest in Peace Neal. Amazing tribute by the band in the video and your words are spot on!!! Thanks for this and for what youu do too.
Only band I've ever even _heard of_ having 50,000 fans sing along with an instrumental (look up YYZ live at Rio).
Lovely reaction. This really is a happy song and the joy it brings is wonderful to watch.
Neil Peart literally road around the globe learning different drum styles from different cutures.
To call Neil Peart's "Drum Solo" a drum solo does not even do what he does justice.
That performance needs a different name.
You can argue a lot about greatest guitarist, bassist, but very few will argue about Neil Peart,
A beautiful human showing such an open and honest reaction will always be one of the things that justifies the existence of UA-cam.
Very well done!
With Rush you need to not only focus on the melodies and time signature changes but also the lyrics. RIP to their lyricist Neil Peart.
IMHO the most underrated band ever.
I love the Donna Halper holding the RUSH debut album! We Rush fans all owe to her memory a debt of gratitude for her dedication to getting the word out there here in the USA by keeping Working Man in her rotation after the album's release.
i loved seeing her drop the record in the video - great to see her in it
@@christophercattie yeah me too, man.
Huge congratulations to you Aileen ! It's a tribute to your wonderful personality, your beautiful smile and your big, lovely heart.
At the age of 15, I was introduced to the first Rush album, it was 1974 and I loved it, now I know I was at the cradle of progressive rock…..
I saw Rush play Spirit of Radio in August of 1979 at the Cotton Bowl (I was 16) in Dallas, 4 plus months before released.
@@conchrepublictheband That's awesome what did you think of it the first time you heard it?
Awww The nod to “Red Barchetta” was awesome! I love this video, this is so cool. ❤❤❤❤
This is easily my favorite song from Rush, in a HUGE catalog of amazing songs..
Tightest 3 piece band ever. Saw them for the first time 1973 pre-Neil Peart. RIP Neal.
YYZ, Tom Sawyer, Freewill.
Also, watch Neals solo in Frankfurt Germany!!
Oh boy! the Rush rabbit hole begins for you.
RUSH! At last!!!!
"One likes to believe in the freedom of music

My first concert 💜🌹🕊🦋🦄🧡🐧🔮💖
30 years later I'm setting up the r 40 kit I have his majic sticks 🌹💜🌹🌩🐉🐲

A very good song by Rush and so glad that you reacted to this song,Aileen!!❤️🥰😍🤘🤘
Still a beautiful childhood memory! I listened to CFNY and can understand why that station inspired this one!
Thank you for this one...
