    A Jordan Peterson video a day keeps the therapist away(quite ironically 😉 )

      Seeing as Peterson is a therapist, I don't think irony is at play.

    This is from the newest Q&A from yesterday. There are always 1-2 answers that I really like which fit well on this
    channel. I would still recommend listening to the full video, I think the questions are getting better every month.
    Especially the very first answer on free will was a blast!

    A challenge does make you stronger and think deeper about things and people. There is always a struggle with a challenge and usually at least two struggles.

    This is basic stuff for teenagers. A deeper truth for older adults is this: Struggle and suffering are proportional to separation and one's ego attachments. The true source of happiness is to detach from this illusory world and embrace the unchanging reality of spirit.

    As Human beings we dont have much choice over our fate and if our individual circumstances were just a little bit harder then we would NOT be able to bear it.
    & if they were just a tad bit better than they are now, we might not appreciate the struggle it took to get there as much.

    Sounds as though the questioner wants to be God, to freely choose and have the universe conform itself to his choice. None of us are God. We are players in God's game, and have to manage the hand that God deals to us as best we can.

    What if my goals are too ambitious and way outside of my capacity but maybe not my potential? Should I still pursue it or not? I want to revolutionize the nano and biotech industries, I have great ideas for semiconductors, superpacitors, microchips etc. Via using highly abundant biopolymers and other revolutionary nano materials such as graphene, that are easily attainable through commersial wastestreams. Yet I'm still a drug addict on the road to recovery. Through all my pain and suffering, my vision and goals are my only silver lining but are they all pipe dreams? I do clean my own room and have zero dust bunnies...

    • @arraikcruor6407
      @arraikcruor6407 6 років тому +5

      No one can answer that question, Taariq. You are going to have to suit up and see if the dragon you fight eats you or you slay it. I guess anything that is within your potential can be possible. You said you are on the road to recovery, how about when you recover you give your dreams a go? Don't be scared of failures, they are greatest teachers.

    This gets heavy even half way through the question. I mean, I can keep up, don't get me wrong, but like, jeez lol. I don't agree with him about being built for struggle. If that were true, if only physically, we wouldn't age randomly and have such short lives. I guess there should be a limit to how much struggle you should put yourself through. And/or make sure it's centered on or aimed at a road that has lots of mini goals.

    • @muzosh
      @muzosh 3 роки тому

      I don’t think you’ve quite understood what he meant by that. Life is a struggle in a sense. He’s not saying that you should put yourself in as much of a struggle as you can, but rather to go out and make something out of yourself.

    • @DannyBoy443
      @DannyBoy443 3 роки тому

      @@DannyBoy443 Yeah you don’t get it. He’s saying to deal with suffering when it arrives, and you are able to do that by challenging yourself.

    as someone who dealt with hour long panic attacks and general anxiety, I can say its thee most easily curable mental health issue...you just need to confront your fear or what ever triggers your panic/anxiety and tell yourself you're excited by this feeling over and over again, fake it till you make it...FACT

    Seems like something in my set of instincts is broken, lol. I always asked myself, since I probably will never be homeless or hungry, why should I do anything? And the bet always looked so unappealing... the difference for exampe between a nice avarage meal and some gourmet stuff seems so miniscule next to the difference between nothing and enough. And thats basically how I see every aspect in the world. Yes, every biological being is made for a world of struggle or death and I just happen to live in that tiny sweetspot of abundance. I don't even deny, that it might be fulfilling to be competetive in anything, but it all looks so unappealing. I don't want cars, watches, designer clothes or any status symbols.

    • @kennethburmeister8119
      @kennethburmeister8119 6 років тому

      Yes, it is appealing. It's great in fact. However it only exists due to the abundance those before you created.
      Once the balance gets shifted in the direction of your "it's just fine mentality" a lack of determination/resilience through hardship emerges in society. This is why Cultures rise and fall over time. It's a cyclical cycle and it's VERY hard to overcome. Most forget the past because reading some horror/hardship in a book is NOTHING compared to living through it. This is why socialism fails so much, The struggle to greatness becomes a passing thought because the rewards do not equate to the output of work.
      I have and in some ways am still struggling with just getting by and not excelling like you. I breezed through highschool asleep and did fine in college when I actually gave a shit. But now I see that my character has been tempered under mediocrity instead of excellence and that is something that does not change back easily.
      Just getting by is great, until you face a hardship and are ill equipped to mentally get through it...be very caerful

    So true!
    In the name of God, the Gracious, the Merciful.
    1. I swear by this land.
    2. And you are a resident of this land.
    3. And by a father and what he fathered.
    4. We created man in distress [hardship, struggle].
    5. Does he think that no one has power over him?
    6. He says, “I have used up so much money.”
    7. Does he think that no one sees him?
    8. Did We not give him two eyes?
    9. And a tongue, and two lips?
    10. And We showed him the two ways [of right and wrong]?
    11. But he did not brave the ascent.
    12. And what will explain to you what the ascent is?
    13. The freeing of a slave.
    14. Or the feeding on a day of hunger.
    15. An orphan near of kin.
    16. Or a destitute in the dust.
    17. Then he becomes of those who believe, and advise one another to patience, and advise one another to kindness.
    18. These are the people of happiness.
    19. But as for those who defy Our revelations-these are the people of misery.
    20. Upon them is a padlocked Fire.
