I'm 66 years old. I've had a vision of building my own home with my own hands my whole life but have had to rent for the past 40 years. After raising a family in the San Francisco Bay Area and because of that we we were not able to buy a home here we purchased a 1.5 acre of "raw" land 750 miles away near Flagstaff Az. in 2016. We are nearly finished with the cabin. It is a place of serene beauty. The greatest adventure of my life. The most beautiful time of my life. Living with the purpose of building a place of sanctuary, refuge and safety for myself and my wife (and our children when we're gone) All of it is "debt-free". I had a dream of one day not having to pay rent and because of the sacrifices we have made we are close to living that dream. Never believe anyone who tells you... "It can't be done"! Tell them "BULLSHIT, if I can do it you can too".

Life is full of adventure if you have the courage to pursue and present the truth to yourself as well as others. In contrast, it would be an atrocity for those who choose deception over truth to live life in an illusion of happiness. Maybe most often we conclude that the journey which we are on is solely to reach the destination for materialistic accommodation to keep ourselves happy or rather far away from miseries but in actuality it turns out that we have always sought adventure in it every time.

Underrated excerpt. This video should blow up more than many of his other viral videos.
I've listened to A LOT of you, Dr Peterson (your biblical lectures which pivoted my thinking in such a way that changed my life along with countless other lectures and videos) and you do such a phenomenal job here (with your lovely wife at your side), of wrapping up many of the answers to some of the hard questions/concepts that you've wrestled with over the years, into a nicely gift wrapped 9 minute clip. Having a definition of God as simply, THE TRUTH, is extremely accurate and seems a very deep profound truth in and of itself.
To attempt to gift wrap it even more tightly:
God is the objective truth. Do your BEST to follow it. If things are going bad, that's your cue to try to follow it even harder, dealing with the devils in your way and only the devils that are actually in YOUR way. Then, and only then, by honestly attempting to follow the truth (to follow God), your life will actually have been worthwhile because you LIVED your very own, unique, tailor made adventure that it seems is what we all really want. If that's what we really want, then what we really want is God. Although we don't ever GET God in this life, that's not the point. The point is the adventure of following God.
What a magnanimously beautiful idea that ANYONE from any faith could adopt immediately and carry with them wherever they go. An idea that R.W. Emerson would be proud of.
It is one of my fervent dreams to have an honest conversation with you one day, Jordan. The odds seem slim but hey.. maybe not as slim as I think.
That would surely be one of the highlights of my adventure.
    Cheers to the truth!
    Ben

whatever that may mean… life is so diverse, take the opportunity to be alive - fully - without compromise. Be who you are, like a child playfully exploring his own truth. 'cause all that can be, is good and everything thats beeing suppressed, feels bad. To me it is as simple as that!

30 yrs ago when I used to patrol the various christian discussion groups on AOL one subject that came up when I informed someone I was not religious, one of the first questions they had was "Then what is the purpose of life?" The obvious but false premise in that was that happiness was dependent upon believing in the supernatural. It's rather sad that anyone would conclude that happiness is attainable by believing in something or someone they can't 'prove' actually exists. One of my retorts was that "The purpose of life is simply to live." And not just live but live in service to other people in an honest way. Now that completely contradictory to 'human nature' which is individual security, let the strongest survive.

I've found that when I let the Lord rule my life, I get involved in the most amazing (to me) adventures. Not to disrespect religious leaders, but most of them aren't equipped to lead you to any adventure.
"Seek the Kingdom first, and all these things will be added to you."
Better than insisting upon your own autonomy from G0D, sitting at the bar every day saying that you "want to live your life." As if that is a life!

@@creativeape8994 There are different Gifts of the Spirit - check out 1st Corinthians 12. Pray for the Gifts - knowing that these Gifts are not for our glory, but His.
A lot of people don't " hear" from the Lord, because it's not like an auditory hallucination! Read about Elijah - how the voice of the Lord did not come in fire nor wind, but like a "still small voice." He was a servant of the Lord, like many of the Patriarchs (Moses, Abraham.)
I would recommend getting a study Bible, but I would also recommend a book that probably can still be found: "Who's Who in the Bible, " Reader's Digest. While not a completely accurate book - it's not the Bible! - it gives a pretty fair assessment of most Biblical characters and the stories associated with them. It also lists the Scripture where their stories are found. Sometimes it's useful to put yourself in their place, to see what their trials consisted of, personified.
Pray for Wisdom and Understanding, and don't be troubled by not "hearing" His voice. But knowing what Scripture says, and having an idea about His character, you are less likely to imagine your own voice and mistaking it for His!
      Thank you.

I believe Jordan misspoke: while some would forgo safety in search of adventure, that is not universal. I have been seeking fun for as long as I recall and to have fun you don't need any misery, you don't need real threat, all you need are ideas or experiences that are novel and or captivating (which can happen with or without real peril). Many people like competition to have fun but that isn't really the spirit of fun alone, competition can turn into malevolence and tyranny quickly. I think the largest calling to adventure is about confronting challenge, but challenge can come from the environment as it does, and people tackling the real challenges of existence (scientists and activists) are on the forefront of truth (I think videogames for example are seeking challenge of archetypal nature) and that the real threat comes from an enemy that is out of most's peripheral in terms of who is behind it. Truth lays the foundation for confronting the real fight so you aren't busy fighting yourself thinking it is someone else (illusions and falsehoods mislead and attempt to blindside) Keep on keeping on the truthful path.

Cool suit. In reality, how many people truly give conscious thought to their lives, like The concepts of "purpose","passion", "goals" ? I think, most people, just go through the motions, and whatever happens, happens, and they'll deal with it, when it happens. How many high school kids do you know that plan their life out 10 years? Not many. I find the "Where do you see yourself, in 5 years", question, a stupid question, because we can't predict the future.

legitimate question for anyone here in the comment section... Have you ever given up and not regretted it?
I'm very stuck right now between two visions of my life, I want both but one of them but one seems masochistic to even face, I'm not a smart person at all but I am cursed with wanting to be smarter I am studying physics to understand more but the reality is I'm really stupid... so I feel instead of constantly suffering I can work in something that is fulfilling to me which is being a mechanic which is something I am eager to learn from even if it's not as respected. Would being a mechanic equate to settling, to giving up? I feel I have failed too much so my option as a person who is not as capable would be to learn a trade.

    • @creativeape8994
      @creativeape8994 Рік тому

No because if you relate it to this video then you becoming a Mechanic is your current truth because it’s something you find fulfilling where as the deception is you forcing doing the physics. Like JP says you never know where the mechanics will go. You’re gonna be a lot better at something you’re passionate about

If the chief end of man is not to be happy or Rich but to glorify God ...then we set out our path to do so.
If our chief and in this life is not to be happy... And how much happier will you be when you are made happy in life?
The selfishness and narcissism of this last 100 and how we watch the evolution of generations become more and more reliant upon material things to make them happy.
And suffer spiritual loss the greatest cost of all putting distance between us and God as we live on earth.
And now this generation at all time high not walking with the Lord but walking in complete darkness totally fooled by the evilness of the world.
I truly enlightening having someone like Peterson shedding light on subjects.
