Singer Josh Clayton-Felt died on January 19, 2000 at 32 of testicular cancer. Guitarist Michael Ward went on to play with John Hiatt and eventually became a member of The Wallflowers. After The Wallflowers split, Ward spent many years as a member of Ben Harper's band, The Innocent Criminals. He is also a sought-after session guitarist in LA, and the author of the children's books 'Mike and the Bike' and 'Mike and the Bike Meet Lucille The Wheel.' Chad Fischer went on to form the band Lazlo Bane, most known for original opening credits of the TV show Scrubs. He also performed music in the Garden State movie soundtrack. Christopher MacDonald, who played bass with the band on tour, but did not play on any School of Fish recordings, records synthesizer space music under the name Telomere.

This song was playing on the radio Saturday morning June 1, 1991; as I was leaving my high school's project graduation lock-in. I just sat in my car and let the song play as about 300 other senior/graduates tore out of the school's parking lot for the last time.
So long ago, yet feels like yesterday. Man I wish I could relive that weekend!

I love this song. My Dad told me he was filming a video for some smart young kids. My Dad was a great character actor. Martin Clark. I had heard this song a lot & really loved it. So when I saw the video. I thought how F-ing Awesome is that. My Pop finally did something I can brag about. He's the Elder man dancing. He told me he had difficulty not laughing when the dog's were licking his face. I miss my Pop. He was a Awesome Dad. He went 4/21/14 His ticker's time was up. I really do Love everything about this video. I am recording a cover of it. Under The Spy Darz from Marz-3SD
Ps: It also Tears me up hearing about Josh Clayton Felt. What a Legendary Guy & Song/Video to leave us with in memorys. Thanks Josh & The Band it's been years since I've visited this video. Thank you all for the Awesome responses to my response. 😁❤️

@James Tippens Awww. That is totally awesome that your Father was in this video! I would be really proud of that as well. I really love "School Of Fish". I went to see them once and hit it off really well with Josh Clayton-Felt. I swear to God it seemed like we were falling in love, (this was after the show). We were talking for hours. But then my best friend Bob, who I grew up with, who was also gay, got cranky and irritable. Which normally happens when he drinks. We had just turned 21. Bob started bitching and saying, "I want to go home! Let's go! I don't want to be here anymore!" . Unfortunately, I was driving. Incidentally, I never ever drank. To this day I've never had one drink. I was so sad that I had to leave Josh. And as I was leaving, I kept looking back at him and he just kept watching me walk away. Ahh, what might have been! I saw him once more when he left the band and went solo several years later and opened up for Del Amitri, who I also love. I saw Josh walk by and he did a double take when he saw me. I don't know what came over me, but I just sort of walked away really fast, not looking back. It broke my heart. But I'm sure things were different by that point. I'm sure he didn't have an interest in me anymore and probably had a girlfriend. Anyway, I lost my beloved Father only three months before you lost yours. I'm very sorry that your Dad passed away. It seems like you were lucky to be his son. My Father had heart disease for a good part of his life. And 16 days before he died they found out he was in stage 4 of heart failure. So, it sounds like we lost our Fathers to similar conditions. I miss my Superman everyday and I still cry all the time because he's not here with me anymore. Even though it's been three years. I'm going to look up your Father's name and see what other acting roles he had. And I'm also going to watch this video again so I can get a good look at him! Thank you for telling us about your Dad! That's really super cool! I firmly believe we will be reunited with them again someday. 😀👼💞👍🌼✌🍀

When he stopped coming around to my guitar shop even my wife noticed his absence .He was a fixture in the store and would constantly run into someone he knew. I don't think I could forget his big smile. Now that i have adult children, i think about his parents and feel for them. What a wonderful child. God bless you Joshua

    For three strange days
    I had no obligations
    My mind was a blur
I did not know what to do
    I think I lost myself
    When I lost my motivation
Now I'm walking 'round the city
    Just waiting to come to
    For three strange...
    For three strange days
I couldn't put a smile on my face
So they dressed me up in all of their clothes
    And took me somewhere else
    Johnny Clueless was there
    With his simulated wood grain
So I pulled up a chair
    And started drinking by myself
    For three strange...
I've got to make it through
    No matter what it takes
Oh I've got to make it through
    These strange days
I lay down for a while
And I woke up on the ocean
    Floating on my back
    And staring at the gray
    It was completely still
Except the pounding of my heart
    Bringing me back to life
    From three strange days
    Three strange...

Can you please explain, what makes this song so elegantly brilliant ? In simple layman terms ?

    • @DunamisSword
      @DunamisSword Місяць тому +1

@SpringNotes rarely do we hear such a simple chord progression played with such conviction, first of all. They're so committed to it! And for the melody and the lyrics it works so well!
The lyrics remind me of how I felt in my 20's pretty regularly--a little lost and quite often in something of a fugue state of mind. So I love the visual created in this lyric:
      lay down for a while
And I woke up on the ocean
      Floating on my back
      And staring at the gray
      It was completely still
Except the pounding of my heart
      Bringing me back to life
      From three strange days
-Just a great way to express that sort of dreamy feeling that artistic, deep-thinkers get swimming through an ocean of thought.
So lyrically, he brilliantly nails it over music that's just the perfect fit for what is conveyed, and that makes it elegant to me. Maybe I'm stupid. 🤷‍♂️

While I'm a child of grunge (as cliche as it sounds, my musical switch was thrown the moment I saw the video for "Smells Like Teen Spirit"), I do sometimes wonder what the 90's would have been like if grunge hadn't happened and acts like School of Fish and Peter Murphy had become the defining sounds of the era.

I had no idea who Josh Clayton Felt was when he opened for Tori Amos in college. I went to the show because of a girl. He played solo and stole the show. Still breaks my heart to think what he could have been. What an incredible talent.

He was a WONDERFUL PERSON - he was the first boyfriend of my daughter - and I couldn't have been happier - I knew she was in good hands. It was the anniversary of his death on January 19 - my daughter dreamed of him that morning. I dream of him frequently too - he visits us when we need "help" with something - or just to smile his inimitable smile. He's still WONDERFUL!

Angelica Luce Hi! My name is Connie. I work with Josh’s family to promote his music. We’d love to hear any memories your daughter might have of him. He does have a Facebook page if she’d like to post a pic or share something. Warmly....C.

Wow! What a blast from the past. A rare treat. I damn near forgot about these guys. Too bad they had an unfortunate end. Way too soon. R.I.P. Josh.

Change "Days" to "Months" and you'll have a good description of 2020

    For three strange days
    I had no obligations
    My mind was a blur
I did not know what to do
    I think I lost myself
    When I lost my motivation
Now I'm walking 'round the city
    Just waiting to come to
    For three strange...
    For three strange days
I couldn't put a smile on my face
So they dressed me up in all of their clothes
    And took me somewhere else
    Johnny Clueless was there
    With his simulated wood grain
So I pulled up a chair
    And started drinking by myself
    For three strange...
I've got to make it through
    No matter what it takes
Oh I've got to make it through
    These strange days
I lay down for a while
And I woke up on the ocean
    Floating on my back
    And staring at the gray
    It was completely still
Except the pounding of my heart
    Bringing me back to life
    From three strange days
    Three strange...
    Three strange days
    Three strange days

I was born in 1994 and missed to much good music. I remember my siblings (me being the youngest) listening to the early 90's and I caught some okay stuff going into the early 2000's and now I'm like what the fuck. All the good bands today are underground bands. The only thing that is good about today's music is you can use it to weed out the ailing intellectuals, or the people with a lack of meaning and or morales

You flashed me back to the 90's. IMO, the 90's alternative scene was pure, and just fun. Thank you for being there SOF. Much love.
