I just bought a 2009 335d and im performing preventative maintenance such as oil change, changing the crankcase breather, and possibly changing the transmission fluid. I checked the records of it ever having it changed and saw nothing. Should i still change it? Or take the fill plug off to take a sample to see if the fluid has color and is worth changing it?

Hi DEAN from the United States. I have a 2006 525i and I'm about to do a SERIOUS transmission service. The previous owner didn't do the proper service on the car. I have been servicing, rebuilding this machine for the past 3 years and I just finished the engine three weeks ago. JUST LIKE YOU SAID, "Don't cheap out on ANY of the parts to these machines." Yes, sir. You are absolutely right. I made that mistake in the beginning. I didn't know about the Beck/Arnley brand and I had one of their fuel filter/regulators installed. Only worked for a couple of hours and fried my fuel management computer. It was my 1st and ONLY mistake I've made on this car. NEVER again will I buy their garbage crap. I removed a Chinese CarQuest starter and camshaft position sensor the previous owner used. Replaced it with a rebuilt (USA) Bosch & OG BMW respectively. There are a lot of OEM parts manufacturers who are BMW part manufacturers. You just have to look. Like, TRW, Uro, Hella, etc... I was able to score the ZF parts while the UAW is striking here. 😡BTW, URO makes a BMW approved Aluminum, reusable transmission cover that's supposed to improve the life of your ZF transmission by taking the heat away from the transmission. I am an engineer and I completely approve of this. The plastic covers are brittle, damage prone and actually insulate the heat. I love your videos and would love to see you in the US one day. If I make it to the UK, I'm gonna definitely look you up. I'll cook you a SUPER American meal.
Torquing the pan bolts to 10nm in the correct sequence as advised by zf won't squash the seal. Each pan bolt hole has a sleeve finished at precisely the correct height for the correct compression on the seal.
My pan has the t30 screw so tight I have stripped several of them with different techniques. Only 4 were t30, the rest were t27 but still it was identical to the ones that come with the zf trans. Any ideas on how to proceed? I dont wanna ruin the transmission😭

Man that fill plug is mangled. Having had to fill one of these up via the cooler line when the fill plug was stripped by the last guy to fill it up I'd be chicken to put that plug back in unless it looked pristine. I have always found what works better to break it loose without mangling is with a low profile right angle milwaukee impact ratcheting wrench...it has more than enough torque to break it loose but won't strip anything...hard to find a socket that will fit (I had to shave down my 8MM). Also not sure if BMW says different but the torque spec in the guide I got from ZF says 8NM on the ZF6HP19 and 10NM on the higher torque boxes.
Well Im screwed. I bought a used one and now the trans won't shift out of first. I really liked this car. But I don't have a lift and it's lowered. So a normal jack won't get under it. -sigh- jus my luck...

6.5 litres it takes. But bear In mind every transmission is different that depends on how it’s been looked after in it’s life , if there has been any leaks , any issues along the way maybe if someone serviced it didn’t put the correct amount of fluid back. But if your gearbox has no issues and is fine it should take 6.5 at the most
Hello. Please help, I have a problem with the car. BMW 420D Gran Coupe 2017, engine B47, automatic, mileage 178 thousand km. Periodically there is a problem with the drive and the gearbox goes to the emergency: on sudden acceleration there is a kind of shock-push, then there are errors - the drive is defective, selector blinks in position D, no gear shifting, as well as there is an error on stabilization. After stopping and shutting down the car, the problem disappears when you start again. It appears rather seldom, there is no any systematics, but it is dangerous, especially when overtaking. No active errors when connected to the diagnostics, but in the history the errors are saved: EGS unit: 420598 Transmission output deceleration: Too large DSC unit errors: D3557A D35577 D35677 Faults on ICM unit: D019AB D0157A Please help me, I searched all the forums, sites, I could not find anything.
Well this one has been done every 50-60K from the history. So I would say that is correct and change it every 60K. Only problem is for the ZF it ain’t cheap as the pan is plastic and has the filter built in unlike the GM transmissions which is all seperate so the pan is more expensive then the fluid. But I would strongly reccomend if you ain’t changed or have any documents showing the sleeves have been done I would do them. Luckily mine has all been changed before I bought it and I have no issues but thankfully that’s because it’s been serviced all it’s life.
@BMWDoctor I was looking for the service kit and just saw a video of yours 4 years ago saying DON'T change the oil on a ZF and your car hasn't had it done. Not even being funny but now I'm here hearing it's been done on this car and should be every 60-80k. Dean I need to know is it a waste of time or not as the last video confused me. In my opinion everything should be kept fresh and well lubricated

It’s not 10NM if you look it up on bmw TIS it actually says 5NM so your advice is incorrect
