CLIP DESCRIPTION:
Rick (Brendan Fraser), Jonathan (John Hannah), and Ardeth (Oded Fehr) get ambushed by Imhotep's (Arnold Vosloo) priests who have risen from the grave.
FILM DESCRIPTION:
Loosely adapted from the classic 1932 horror film starring Boris Karloff, The Mummy is set in Egypt, where over 3,000 years ago the high priest Imhotep (played by Arnold Vosloo) was given the all-important assignment of preparing the recently dead for their journey into the afterlife. However, Imhotep made one terrible mistake - he became smitten with Anck-Su-Namun, the mistress of the Pharaoh himself. Driven mad by jealousy and love, Imhotep murdered the Pharaoh, and his punishment was to be buried alive and suffer the torment of an eternal life in his wretched tomb. In 1925, a band of adventurers seeking fame and fortune - led by Rick O'Connel (Brendan Fraser), an American expatriate who has joined the foreign legion, and Evelyn Carnarvon (Rachel Weisz), an amateur archeologist - find a previously unknown burial site in Egypt. The team starts to dig, hoping to find lost riches, but instead they disturb the tomb of Imhotep, and soon the cursed priest rises from his grave to wreck vengeance on humanity. The Mummy was written and directed by Stephen Sommers, whose previous cinematic journeys into the past include The Jungle Book and The Adventures Of Huck Finn.

@@jamelgallagher6602 Well you got a point there. But you shouldn't really blame Jonathan he was afraid and in a rush. I don't know how much experience you have with mummies surrounding you and trying to kill you, but I think while in panic we don't make the best decisions.
Jonathan cracks me up so much. I laughed so hard when he threw one of rick's guns at a zombie mummy in sheer panic. One of my fave movies, saw it I was 7

So Imhotep was mummified alive, sealed in a locked sarcophagus with scarab beetles (who somehow managed to escape and repopulate in the tomb), and locked in a SECOND sarcophagus before being buried under lots of sand (but no one thought to destroy the key or the book that could revive him), and his priests were either tossed in the sand or added to the decor like Hahn Solo?

how can those priests remain loyal to Imhotep? He was the one that got them mummified alive.
Titus Snyder they helped him escape the scene of when the pharaoh got killed.
I believe they still consider him a friend or at least someone who deserves their respect, while Imhotep still holds some kind of affection to them. That's why they bow at one another like saying «Long time no see you!» (literally!).
In real life, many priests in Ancient Egypt were just as corrupt or see themselves more of a leader than the pharaoh, only I dont think they would kill a pharaoh or cover it up. Also as shown here, Imhoptep can bring em back to life

actually myth busters used the lighting/mirror method and proved it worked quite efficiently. Enough to navigate by and with some torch light to help easily read by. The hollywood level of it being super bright? No. The actual method however? yes. Of course the guys outside had to keep adjusting the mirrors.
After this, we've gotta examine all Egyptian wall sculptures and paintings. You'll never now what's hidden beneath those pretty things :))
thats why you cant replace Brendan Fraser in the mummy, he has the way to be the hero, an action with commedy

Tom Cruise's shitty Mummy doesn't hold a candle to these films. Brendan Fraser is a MUCH better action hero than he is.

in tha nimated series of the mummy the animated series turns out imhotep doesnt have to absorb all those people who opened the sacred canopic jars containing his organs but in the animated series this doesnt seem to have been the case he just uses the book of the dead to revive himself in flesh and blood

It has been a while since I last watched the entire movie. My comment is over a year old so I can't remember if I knew that the characters were in a Pyramid or at somewhere else. Now I see that the description for this video says they are at the tomb of Imhotep. I guess I forgot to read the description before posting that comment a year ago.

The first Mummy is a good, silly, fun Indy-style movie mixed with some bad CG effects. Why did 2 and 3 suck so bad?
@Nightwing690 No doubt, but all the scarabs in the first sarcophagus must've gotten out somehow; otherwise when the explorers in this movie opened it, they would've either been eaten alive by the descendants of those scarabs or pelted with long-dead scarab corpses.
But the real treasure was the friends they made along the way.
Legendary.
