I love how at 1:50, he cuts off the mummies head, then after it juggles it for a bit, Rick grand slams it and it flies screaming into the camera. They did such a great job of combining horror/action/comedy.
Imhotep is just the saddest character. He suffered an agonizing death. Resurrected then killed again. Resurrected again and his girl leaves him to die again by getting dragged down to Hell.
People may criticize this movie for different reasons, but it remains one of my favorites. It has everything I want in a movie. Great soundtrack, beautiful sets, great atmosphere, lovely characters, light but engaging plot, tons of action and adventure, comedy. It's just a fun movie to watch.
This will always be one of my favorite movies. O'Connell yelling at the mummies and them yelling back is one of my favorite scenes in all of media. Fucking long live this movie, man.
There's just something about the 90's and early 2000's mix of practical and CGI effects that many modern movies just can't replicate... Sure, there was also plenty of crappy CGI from that era (The Mummy Returns) and there have been a lot of great VFX movies in recent years (Inception), but movies like The Mummy, The Lord of the Rings trilogy, Independence Day, Pirates of the Caribbean, Terminator 2, Jurassic Park, Titanic, The Matrix, and so many more all made incredible use of what limited things CGI could do at the time by combining and complimenting it with practical effects (or vice-versa, complimenting incredible practical effects with a little bit of CGI) for a very believeable and immersive end product.
I think it's because the practical effects grounds it in reality, while the little bit of special effects pushes it that bit further into whatever fantasy or world the movie is set within, allowing your imagination to run with it. Movies today use far too much CGI which although looking cool in certain aspects, just feels like uncanny valley and breaks your immersion. This especially true when using it with people, the Scorpion King come to mind as you said, but also Grendel's mother in Bearwolf.
Lol what about 2:30 when the mummy has a angry scream and then a scared face when he notices his legs were cut off. The vfx team really put that in have the mummies a bit humanized
This is I think the most fun I've had watching a movie. Other movies might be better acted or scripted or whatever, but this movie was just pure fun from start to finish
This scene actually scared me as a teenager. Everytime he says "death is only the beginning." As he is in a pool of souls. All I could picture was was an eternity of floating around in open water. That's a real fear for me.
Oh I thought his career took a turn when he was doing a TV show and he prioritized that over doing the second movie that that the rock replaced him in then his show didnt do as well as expected
Yes he is underrated. But the reason his career didn’t do so well after the 90s was because of something else. He was sexually assaulted by one of the producers. And he spoke up about it. And they blacklisted him

Best movie ever! The first time I saw it I was with my mother and they broadcast it on a TV on a Friday night. I was 7 years old, it was summer and it was hot outside, the crickets were singing. I know that my mother told me that she saw him at the cinema when he was my age and that she snuck out of the house to see the movie. I've seen It at least 30 times, I look at him at least once a month and I never get bored. I don't know why it gets hated and people say it stupid. My favorite movie, always a place in my heart

It would be awesome if they could do a CGI updated version of this movie with everything else preserved. Action classics like this don’t really exist anymore and younger generations should get to enjoy it as much as we did.
I thought the remake with Tom Cruise was pretty good actually. It's not particularly smart or anything but it's a decent dumb action flick. IMO anyway don't @ me
One of my favorite parts about this scene is how Imhotep's regeneration is a lie. Underneath all that skin, he's still just a decayed mummified corpse.
I remember my grandparents taking me to the theater to see this when it came out. I was about 7 then. Unfortunately we had to leave after the scene with the scarab going into the guys brain. I got so sick to my stomach and asked to leave. We even had to pull over on the way home because I started spewing lol. My grandparents felt terrible and I really wanted to finish the movie. Just that one scene made my stomach knot up. So a week later they took me back to finish it up. Was amazingly good! Lol
