      Exactly what I've been saying since I was a teenager. Why didn't she rub the paint with her hand and then when he accused her, she could show her hand and claim something bit her. She had to have known imhotep got paint on his hand. How could she not? Rub it hard with your hand and say something bit you. Bingo.

    Man, Imhotep is the only villain I ever pitied. I was so pissed off at Ank-Su-Namun at the end of the 2nd movie. Like this guy resurrected her 3 times, done everything for her, he became cursed because of her and the only time he needed her to finally save him, she just left.

      I really felt sorry for both of them in Mummy 1 my teenage was so angry that in the 2nd movie she completely dumped him then again now I do love that scene where Rick tells Evie to run away but she comes to save him while Imhotep to show that his love is strong too like theirs ironically asks Ank Su Namun to save him and She runs away..

      The biggest question I had after watching the Mummy Returns is how was Imhotep able to briefly revive Anck-Su-Namun as a mummy in the first film? It was revealed she was reincarnated in the 2nd film which took place a few years later and she was a mature woman by that point. Reincarnation is basically recycling an old soul to give it a new life by being born again, so going by movie logic if Imhotep was successful in the first movie then there would be two separate Anck-Su-Namuns running around.

    After the sequel ended, I feel very bad for Imhotep. The girl who he though loved him turned out to actually be deceiving him. He betrayed his Pharaoh and was sentenced to death in the worst way, all for nothing. If he had been more aware, none of this would have happened, but the movie would also be very short as well.

The ancient egyptians thought that giving him absolute power and immortality, wich he could then never use (as long as he wasnt released from his sarcopahgus (requires a special key) and some other idiots didnt rob Anck-Su-Namuns canopic jars( so he could consume them and restore himself)) combined with eternal agony would be the most suitable punishment for his crime. He was in love with her and finally got her back in her reincarnated body…If he had stopped right there, instead of going after the power and rule of Anubis’s Army, he could’ve lived his new life with her…maybe gotten mortal and started a family with her in the 1900s and lived his full life with her all the way to the end but it went to a tragic dark ending for both of them…

    • @serafilirose6685
      @serafilirose6685 2 роки тому +38

      Well, that depends how much Egyptology you want in the story. At the *very* least, Imhotep sinned grievously against the Goddess Ma’at by killing Pharaoh. His burial site was never sanctified, he never had the full rites, his name was not carved into his sarcophagus-thus stripping him of any identity in the afterlife. The movie version of Ankhsunamun didn’t fare much better. Also Osiris was one of the principle gods of the dead-Anubis ate the hearts of those judged unworthy: your heart was weighed against the feather of Ma’at, and Osiris judged you.
      The Pharaohs was considered the living Osiris (or Horus, it changed depending on the dynasty), and you can bet Osiris would have Some Thoughts about what should be done to Imhotep. (Plus, at that time, Egyptians considered the soul to be made of many parts, so resurrection, as we understand it, wasn’t even possible.)
      TL;DR: Imhotep seriously transgressed against no less than 3 of the major deities, not counting the gods and goddesses who would have also acted to punish him. Even with a fully resurrected Ankhsunamun at his side, he was a doomed man-revenant. Mummy. Whatever. “Go big, or go to oblivion” was pretty much his only option.)

    • @serafilirose6685
      @serafilirose6685 2 роки тому +4

      @@Sun.Shine- The honest answer is: because the original Mummy and the remakes were made by people who really didn’t know about the religions of ancient Egypt. The hand-wavey answer: Imhotep performed necromancy to draw forth enough of Ankhsunamun’s soul-but needed to implant her in Evy’s body because Evy had the missing (living) parts of Ankhsunamun’s soul. Nefertiri may have been sent back by Isis (being a Pharoh’s daughter, she was in line to be the Living Isis), who is known for Her great act of magic in resurrecting Osiris and conceiving Horus.
      It gets really twisty, as I can’t remember if Ankhsunamun and Nefertiri were even alive at the same time. The historical Ankhsunamun was the daughter of Amenhotep, and after his death, she desperately asked a foreign king for one of his sons to marry-he was killed en route, and I don’t really remember what happened to her after that. (My books are in storage!)

      @@serafilirose6685 i dont believe that they took actual people from history, so that notion is out. But then i went on a knowledge run and there were people saying that imhotep blocked ASN's soul to get to the judgement chamber, thus making her stuck in the underworld so that he could resurrect her. Nefertiri, like you said might have got help from Isis, as she is pharaoh's daughter and might have been a patron devotee of her at the temple as well that she might have granted her the life that was taken away from her (and her purpose to fulfil the prophecy that led to scorpion king's death). I like to think that Imhotep and alex might have used different incantations for resurrections.

His smile at the end, in the Mummy Returns was beautifully tragic. It spoke of heartbreak. There at the end of all things. After having endured the Homdaii, after enduring a resurrection and the Underworld, facing the Scorpion King without his powers, being still kind to a child, of his enemy nonetheless... Yes Imhotep you weren't THAT bad a guy.

    This movie always fascinates me so much, I’ve already love it since i was a kid. This was the first movie I ever watched that got Ancient Eqypt in it and for that I’ve been proper fascinated by the process of mummification, Ancient eqyptian religion etc… but I have to admit after all this time, I was so curious on how did Imhotep get hes message “Death is only the beginning” on the coffin if for 1 he can’t see what he’s writing 2. He’s hands where proper tied when he was mummified and 3 he was being eaten alive by ancient Scarabs bugs. There’s no way he can do all of that with all that stuff happened to him. I hope someone on here can explain it to me as I’m completely puzzled on it.

    • @BreezyMkII
      @BreezyMkII 2 роки тому +8

      It’s a great film right! I watched it first when I was about 6/7, was petrified for years until I became an adult and then I became fascinated by the Ancient Egypt element and the overall story!
      I imagine Imhotep’s curse makes him kind of like a zombie/vampire, as in he’s undead, or undying (so won’t grow old and die). So he’s ‘alive’ the whole time and is being eaten alive over and over again for thousands of years, so much so that he probably learned to endure the pain of being eaten by the scarabs and was then able to dig his own message into his coffin.
      But by the same logic though, the scarabs should have eaten him dry by now, so I assume he has some form of healing factor in a way (even before he assimilates the 5 thieves and is fully restored) and is in a constant limbo of being eaten alive? I mean that’s horrible man 💀

      @@griffith2995 who knows man, I wonder why he’s so “juicy” by the time his tomb was opened if he wasn’t able to ‘heal’ somehow. They also mentioned he was meant to suffer for all eternity? It’s not entirely clear. Probably “because plot” lol.

    • @serafilirose6685
      @serafilirose6685 2 роки тому +5

      @@BreezyMkII I think you have a point with the “suffer for all eternity” thing:
      The scarabs eat his flesh to the bone. (Similar to how bones are cleaned in a forensics lab). No more meat, viscera, or fluids, the scarabs die, the pain ends. Not much of an eternity! But! Imhotep has canopic jars (those jug like things, usually used to hold the heart, brain, etc.) an important part of the funeral magic the priests did. Now, what if, instead of the usual oils, herbs, and natron used in burial, they used something else? The dead also had a few talismans to help them into the afterlife.
      What if the equivalent of black magic was used.? He’d helped kill his Pharaoh, who was believed to descended from the gods and would become a god after death. So Imohotep and Ankhsunamun did a crime worse than John Wilkes Booth, Judas, and that guy who tried to kill Pope John-Paul 2 combined. I suggest the curse was so strong, it interrupted the normal cycle of life and death: he was a “juicy” mummy because even *bugs* were repelled by his evil. With his consciousness tied to his bones that could never crumble away, he might have scratched the words in himself, flaking off the material one millimeter at a time, picking at the same spots, while the words pulsed in his soul that had no escape, no voice, and no power, so long as he was “lost.”
      Creepy, isn’t it?

    • @BreezyMkII
      @BreezyMkII 2 роки тому +5

      @@serafilirose6685 You might be onto something there! Especially based on how blasphemous his killing of the pharaoh was. They even suggested that him being buried under the statue of Anubis meant that he was either “someone very important…or did something very naughty”.
      His curse had to have some special features to it to ensure his death wasn’t a quick one (beyond the ‘first’ death when he’s initially given the Homdai).

Just like we hindus believe .......we burn out the body but the soul has the power to take another birth ....we believe that a soul may not get another body if he dies a painful death with incomplete desires connected to other person .....may be love or hate . That is why .....our greatest ancient knowledge preaches about how to get liberation ......

    According to wikipedia, "Imhotep" translates from hieroglyphics to "the one who comes in peace" - Imhotep is a real historical figure. Guess that info didn't escape the writers from Universal of the original character, and it was a deliberate pick for a name ... or else it is pretty ironic naming the main antagonist so.

    The 1999 Brendan Fraser version of The Mummy was much better than the 2017 Tom Cruise version. Unfortunately, the 3rd Brendan Fraser Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor was a downfall b/c they replaced actress Rachel Weisz with Maria Bello when technically to complete the trilogy successfully, they could have kept Rachel for all 3 Mummy films.

    It's just way so ironic....
    Here in the past, Anck Su Namun is willing to kill herself for the sake of her love for Imhotep (even though followed by her expectation to be resurrected by him)... But when she's finally reborn and even after her soul is reunited into her reincarnated body, Meela Nais, she become a completely different person...
    Even though Imhotep is the big bad and ruthlessly cruel, but it's just pity for him when he cheated death for the second time JUST to be reunited with his Anck Su Namun, then he's betrayed by her just like that...
    Meela Nais a.k.a Anck Su Namun turned out to be far worst and bigger bad than Imhotep...
    Thank goodness she had it coming not long after she cowardly flee instead of saving Imhotep...
