You from Dallas? Bands would play at the old sportatorium where wrestling was big in dallas. He'd come up there and jam with us or whoever was playing he liked that more personal feel of crowd. But he was really good people man . Oak cliff people. really nice shy dude! I'd see him coming in on their bus at truck stop three o'clock in the morning still holding that strat playing. Unless he was doing something in particular he never put that guitar down. Always playing. Repetition! Like spinning a ball on your finger. Never give up and never stop going at it you get good .

Did you ever see the clip of Stevie playing Voodoo Child at the Cotton Club? It was before he got clean. But a fan walks up while he's playing and holds out his hand to shake hands. Stevie actually shakes his hand for a good 10 - 15 seconds, while he's still playing with his left hand.
This was the song that went #1 in the country! He was well on his way to being known for more than just the blues. His drummer Chris and keyboardist Reese wrote this song for him. A fantastic team. Miss that voice and that sound every day...

From playing at Woodstock with Paul Butterfield to the Stones, Springsteen, Todd, and Bowie he was the go to Saxman for artists for 4 decades. His own solo stuff is amazing as well. He also hosted something called Sunday night where he showcased amazing artists from new to old. BTW, the drummer in this band, Omar Hakim was also one of the best fusion drummers in the biz. Most famously played with Weather Report, and other jazz combos but also with Bowie, Sting and many more.
I saw SRV in Kalamazoo Michigan. He opened for Robert Plant and it was before anyone had heard of Stevie. Everybody was standing there blown away with their jaws on the floor! Glad I got to see him while he was still with us. ✌💀👍🧠🌌♾🎸🎼🎵🎶❤

And other musicians love to play with him because he was humble even in his brilliance and they recognized that brilliance. Fun facts: Whipper and Tommy wrote this, I believe while Stevie was in rehab. Stevie didn't like it much at first but it became their highest charting song. Travis walk is based on where he lived once. When he got out of rehab, he lived with his mother, Martha, for a while. He then moved to Travis Street in Dallas. The lady who lives there now is pretty cool. She's been known to let fans in to look around and she supposedly still has a couch that belonged to Stevie.
In the many, many live performances, I have seen of SRV , with a lot of the best players in the world , I've never seen Stevie take his hat off to anybody. Those guys (David Sanborn's house band) nailed it. that hat tip gesture from the legend , is worth more than a Grammy .

This is the same show you saw Jeff Healey on, hosted by alto sax legend David Sanborn. Both Sanborn and guitarist H.Bullock played in the band on David Letterman's Late Show in the 80's. If you look up Sanborn it lists around 50 albums he has played on, besides his own albums, and writing the music for 3 Lethal Weapons movies.

Damn I miss Stevie Ray Vaughn. I bought the Couldn't Stand The Weather cassette tape in a bargain bin for a dollar because it had the cover of Voodoo Chile (Slight Return) and was an instant fan. I called my friend up and told him about the album and he became an instant fan as well. My brother got to see SRV I would guess about thirty times, if he played five shows in or around Detroit my brother went to every one of them. I never got to see SRV live but thank God for videos. With him being in The Austin Music Hall Of Fame, The Blues Hall Of Fame, 6 Grammys, 10 Austin Music Awards, 5 W.C.Handy Awards, Entertainer Of The Year, Instermental Of The Year and in 2015 The Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame. In only a 7 yr span you would think he would have had more #1 hits. STEVIE RAY VAUGHAN IS THE GOAT

I saw Stevie Ray Vaughan about 3 or 4 times around 1980 and 1981, when he was a regional star. One time he played for free at “The Pub” on the Rice University campus. There was very few people there and they were there to drink and socialize with a friend or a couple of single persons studying. I was able to get a table in front of Stevie Ray in the small place. Here he was playing and all the other patrons and the bartender oblivious to his playing.

Srv and BB king done a show together and they told Stevie that BB would open for him and he got furious and told them BB King doesn't open for anybody and he done that with all the old blues legends

He is THE G.O.A.T. I was there that fateful night, August 26th, 1990. Clapton was the headliner but I went for SRV.

I was 20 when Stevie died in 1990, and with the one exception of Jim Henson earlier that year, no celebrity death has ever upset me more.

Srv and BB king done a show together and they told Stevie that BB would open for him and he got furious and told them BB King doesn't open for anybody and he done that with all the old blues legends
At first I didn't think you noticed the bass player braking the string on his bass, so I watched it again, should have known you'd catch it. Your reactions, even years later are absolutely priceless my brother.
