I have a loved one who is an addict and I understand how hard it is. God Bless Stevie and God Bless All Of You.

Thank you for posting this. I see in the comments some think releasing this is wrong because it's private and they could be right. But this being Stevie Ray Vaughan, a lot of struggling alcoholics and drug abusers might listen to him more than an average Joe. I think Stevie would've wanted this this be heard because if it helps someone get on the road to sobriety it would be worth it. That's just my opinion. SRV Forever

Very true, I wouldn't be listening to this if it were not told by an inspiring musician who I look up to. It's crazy how much I can relate...I feel like I am the person as him, but not as bad into the drugs but definitely not on the right path. I'm definitely an alcoholic and SRV is too and got clean for not for the sake of music, but for the sake of himself. I'm 35, been a blues musician for 20+ years and I'm not sure I even know who I am after watching this. I know what I am. But who am I. All I know is alcohol. Barstools. (I haven't been in bar in years) ...but I still drink as much at home as if I were in a bar every night closing it down.
Thank you SRV for showing me the way and to not be afraid to ask for help.
      Thank you Brother.

This is amazing- thank you for posting this. I would have never been able to hear this otherwise (obviously). My dad was an alcoholic, but seeing that made me not drink ever.
This is very interesting to hear because I always wonder why musicians who become addicts don't ever learn from the musicians before them who were addicts (and often died from it). Stevie is why I HAD TO buy a guitar in 1997- I really appreciate being able to hear about his homelife growing up.
Fighting parents caused me to close my bedroom door and escape in music- and I can play guitar almost as good as Stevie (thanks to obsessive practicing for many years).

I never expected the man who could make music that seemed humanly impossible, to express himself with such humanity and humility. I identified with what he said about getting to a point where the idea that his "growing" was "like something he "couldn't reach anymore...something that I just could dream about." I'm an alcoholic in my 9th month of sobriety and this is helping tonight and will help me tomorrow. In the rooms or on the street, you never know who is going to be the voice of God . Tonight it was Stevie Ray Vaughan. I hope there's a beautiful place where people like Stevie go. God keep you, Stevie. Thank you for this post.

This definitely came at the right time this year for me. Maybe could've come sooner but, like he says, I kinda "saw it coming" in my life too. One hard day came when I realized I had to stop, but I needed to first figure out how to stop and who could help me stop. Now after about 5 months, and the pandemic, a lot of my perspectives of things have changed. Not just drug use, but...people, life, the way we each live our lives, what makes people tick...both good and bad...etc.

Stevie was my inspiration to get clean....
I went clean in the Summer of '90....then he passed away in August.
I've been completely clean and sober ever since....33 years now.
Stevie literally saved my life and he never even met me.

I been to this giant statue of Stevie Ray Vaughan and I looked at this statue and thought to myself man you must of made one heck of a mark if you get a statue made of you just for playing guitar and singing then I thought about how great Stevie Ray was and then I thought oh ok I see.

You hear Wisdom beyond his years in this speech, he loved blues, he loved his brother, and eventually he loved himself and realized how important he was to others and that was the motivating factor to keep him sober

The more I look learn about SRV, Eric Clapton, etc... As a blues musician, I am learning I am following the same road. SRV is someone I've come to look up to. This has been truly inspiring. I'm in tears because I just realized I too, need help.
Stevie is an absolute hero. Legend. And much much more. Long live SRV!! A man with a great heart and soul.

It was so sad when we lost this man. RIP Stevie. I started drinking at 8 also. Sober since 1990 myself and forever grateful.
I got sober In Dallas. I remember the Aquarius group. I got sober at the gift in Irving then moved to Carrollton and new home group was Addison group. I now hail in TN but miss Texas AA. I love AA anywhere but I guess where you get sober will always be special.

Such a good, honest testimony; didn't know he started drinking so young! And like he says, " it's only by the grace of God"......
I'm so thankful he was able to get straight, but the phrase "only the good die young" haunts me.

CONGRATS!! My 17th AA Bday Was April 8....& I Restarted & Rededicated Myself To My Program...Even Tough I'm Still Not Drinking...The Hard Work Is SO Worth It!! I Knew - When I Saw Stevie & DT For The Last Time - July 17, 1990 - What A HUGE Deal Stevie Sharing His Story With People Was....& I Told Him That! I Hope His Audiences & Fans HEARD Him! Stevie Truly CARED About People Not Living In The Same Hell He Had Come Thru - & Cared That People Not Die That Way!....He KNEW What A GIFT That His Still Being Alive To Tell The Tale In 1990 Really Was! I Was Dealing With Alcoholism That Almost Killed Me Twice In 3 Weeks, But I Did Not Have The Extra Deadly Addiction Of Cocaine That Stevie Had To Overcome...I BLEW Me Away How He THREW Himself Into This Program Totally & Really GOT IT...You Can Hear It In How He Talks About How He Saw HIMSELF Change - I Heard Those Amazing Changes In Him In His Music After 1986 - Especially Live - It Was A Beautiful Thing To Watch! I Still Miss Stevie SO Much - But He Left His Heart With Those Of Us Who Still Remember Him & Still Love His Music! God🙏BLESS You, Stevie💗SOUL💞SOUL😘

Great stride made by Stevie in a short time. His time would be shorter than anyone of us could ever imagine. He touched and changed many lives thru his dedication and determination to make a difference. He was successful not only as a great musician. But as a humanitarian. His big heart passed a lot of Love our way! Thank you for posting. God bless all that are struggling with addiction and that you overcome and love happily sober. Amen!

SRV is man who has dealt with many trials and tribulations as many of us have. I believe what made him pull through each time was his determination to overcome. I have experienced this "determination" myself. It works. Please know that once your mind is made up to do something, it WILL happen. You have already won half of the battle. RIP SRV. You have taught us so much. We love you.

Hey..Stevie Ray Vaughan got help for his addictions and that's what matters..Everybody does something in there life that isn't right but..when they finally wake up and see there problem..then..its up to them to fix it or look death in the face..Stevie fixed his addictions and he strived to do it and did his best and he got cured before it was too late to fix it..I applaud Stevie and others like him cause its EASY to get drugs and alcohol in the world ..God bless Stevie Ray Vaughan for coming out and letting everyone know he had problems ...Stevie had a life like alot of kids in this world and he ain't the first one that got addicted to Alcohol and drugs..The world is full of others going through the same things in life or a little different..Either way..life is a struggle and we just have to get through life a day at a time and pray every day for God to help us through it...I applaud u Stevie..and life is hard..but..u took a major step and got the help you needed....that's saying something..

I stumbled unto that aspect of "God" that is talked about in The Power Of Now by Eckhart Tolle as a result of a nervous breakdown and the 12 steps of recovery in 1990 when I could neither see myself or my life with or without drugs and/or alcohol. Prayer, the steps, and Forgiveness for a woman whom I thought was a "bitch" was the catalyst for an "event" that I never asked for nor expected.
"God" is indeed Love in It's Purest From yet formless. It started as a wet spot in my belly that shot down my legs to the bottoms of my feet and shot up like a geyser through the rest of my body leaving me with the purest feeling of Love I'd ever known removing every fiber of fear in my being in the process. I'd never known anything like it. If this was "God" which it indeed was It was way beyond my "understanding" in the human sense.
"They" say in A.A. that this is "not supposed to happen" but the fact is that it did. As a result of all this I began to question what was being said in the "rooms' because it didn't apply to What had found me. The fact is that Eckhart is right, you are not "your mind" "alcoholic" or otherwise. Within the Gap of silence and serenity of mindlessness the dis-ease does not exist anywhere.
I stopped doing meetings in 1993 without incident or the supposed "consequences" of being "drunk in the future" because there IS only NOW.
You were never born, so you will never die, It’s only your illusions that destroy you. Behind the noises is a silence, blazing like a billion stars to keep away the darkness. For if you, have come to know this, you; have already died.
Freedom's just another word for nothing else to lose.
