18:17 - Well I just learned a new meaning for "pine".. I have not read the lyrics befor so I've just heard this part as "before I hide away" and now when I watched this I was like "what has the pine(wood) to do with anything". And after some google translating later I now know that pine also means "wither", "yearn", "miss", "wilt", etc...
The more you know. :D
"Reflection" is just a heavenly masterpiece. I kind of overlooked this one the first time or two I heard it, but my how it has grown on me. Definitely Top 5 in my Tool catalog. Such an amazing vibe!
EDIT: It's unfortunate that they got some of the lyrics a bit wrong on Reflection, but that seems to be typical with UA-cam videos.
In my top 5 as well
I forgot the poll results but this got 50% of the vote. :)
The people who voted for this are the ones that skip your talking, otherwise they'd have known you're looking to rock rather than meditate.
@@voidwraithprime8521 yup! exactly what I thought.. I've said it before... she wants to hear some HWAP angry Maynard
Just do some Opiate or Undertow songs, true rock'n roll...Maynard was at his peak
I can't wait until you finally start listening to early Tool. "Bottom", "Crawl Away", "Intolerance", "Flood" and "Jerk Off" would be great.
For the next poll, I was thinking only Undertow songs. Good plan? And then maybe do one song from each album in order, like what I'm doing with Slipknot.
@@MusicCatsandCoffee yep, excellent plan
@@MusicCatsandCoffee Hi Lauren ! Undertow would be great.
Speaking about early Tool, if you want some angry Maynard and true rock'n roll, please consider doing "Cold & Ugly" + "Jerk off" from the Opiate EP (both songs are very short, live and go together on the record). Maynard is just unreal here, and the music is raw and visceral. You won't regret it.
I cannot recommend highly enough listening to this entire album in a pitch black room with headphones. It is a transcendent experience.
So glad you did these 3 together... One of my favorite Maynard lyrics of all time :"And in my darkest moment, fetal and weeping
The moon tells me a secret, my confidant
As full and bright as I am
This light is not my own and
A million light reflections pass over me"
The moon looks fully bright, but in reality it's dark and cold, and it's just the reflection of the sun
It's in keeping with Taoist meditative poetry
“I feel like I should be doing yoga or something…”. My favorite music for yoga is Lateralus and the Holy Trinity, sometimes with Ticks and Leeches to really get it started😂😂🙌🏻🙌🏻
You ARE standing in the middle of a spiritual realm......it's Tool, and that's exactly what Maynard wanted....."and in his darkest moment fetal and weeping....the moon tells him a secret".....he is distant on purpose and up front on purpose....and he's pointing out how small all of us are in this monstrous universe.....ahhhh man the dude is just on a different level....once again you're awesome Lauren...keep em coming!
Disposition/Reflection is my favorite "Experience " I ever had in 01 on the Lat tours 1st one I was tripping on mushrooms ... Talk about a spiritual awakening
to me Triad is a totally different vibe/feeling emotion whatever you want to call it. I personally don't feel like it is part of a whole.
This is called “The Holy Trinity” 🤘 glad you did the whole trio its a must, im only like 5 mins in and im too hyped lol
The pinnacle of Maynard's vocals can be found on the Salival version of PUSHIT. It will be your "forever" favorite.
I might be in the minority, but I definitely see Disposition and Triad as interludes whilst Reflection is the main event. I certainly don't think they're required listening to fully enjoy Reflection or the album as a whole either, and maybe that's sacrilegious to some overly pedantic Tool fan out there, but to each their own. Furthermore, I do wish you'd talk about the lyrics though, as that's the entire point of them not including lyrics with any of their releases till 2019's Fear Inoculum; wanting people to interpret them with the music as a complete work and come to their own personal conclusion to what it means. It's actually one of the big reasons I watch Tool reactions, as it can be very interesting to get a different read on songs I've heard probably over a thousand times at this point. Though I certainly understand why you wouldn't want to, as some Tool fans do get far too aggressive in defending their ultimately subjective interpretation of a piece of music meant to invoke just such wildly different reactions in people. Nonetheless, 'twas another enjoyable reaction, Lauren, and I'm looking forward to the next one.
Tool army, checking in
“ Im inside of the world of the song.”
😎 welcome 😎
The opening lyric is meant to be "I have come curiously close to the end, down......beneath my self indulgent......." So the 'down' is actually the beginning of the next line. He says Joni Mitchell was a big inspiration for the way he constructs his lyrics and phrasing.
Edit: Haha you actually point this out later in the song. Great spotting.
I was just wondering the other day when you’d get to the trinity and now here you are. Disposition has to have one of the prettiest bass lines in all of music.
As for Reflection, it is simply the most song ever.
Cant hit the Like button enough! LOVE the Holy Trinity, especially Reflection. Hoping Pushit or Jimmy appears on a poll soon. And really cant wait until you are ready to take on the brilliant masterpiece that is the Fear Inoculum album! Enjoy you and your channel Lauren, thank you!
Disposition is a very peaceful
"Reflection" is one of Danny's best drum tracks. Listen to it again.
Poltergeist voice Maynard is always what I think haha
I'm pretty sure that I strument in Reflection is a rehab: a Middle Eastern bowed instrument.
The other sound you pick out is a synthesizer. Tool sometimes use one for texture.
The 3 tracks were originally composed as 1 piece of music (at over 20+ minutes) but later indexed into 3 chapters for the album's release
My personal opinion here is you have to really be into Tool to appreciate the Holy Trinity. I love playing Reflection at the gym when I'm doing cardio. I could play it over and over again. I'm thinking there was plenty more to listen to before diving into this trio, but no crying over spilled Maynard. Rock on!
This band will always amaze you with every song of theirs
Thanks for doing this.
It's a ride that's for sure
Solo Hay Tool! The Disposition/Reflection/Triad is by far my favorite long composition Tool song. It's everything Tool. Quiet, calm and meditative. Mysterious, dark, and brooding. And the they bring out the face melters. I listen to Reflection every Halloween, and dream of dancing naked around a fire in the darkess. TMI? I don't care. Solo Hay Tool!
What a strange dream!!!
Really enjoy your reactions and analysis. Speaking of Maynard being different every time you hear him check out Rosetta Stoned, it’s like fast talking psychotic Maynard. Maybe the greatest Tool song ever. Anyway keep up the great reactions.
@27:50 "Something's being conjured up"
🤣 Totally!
These are definitely more meditative tracks than anything 🤔 I would have to say that Lauren has done enough Tool reaction videos to finally get to the meat and potatoes with the Fear Inoculum 💉 tracks.
Absolutely!!! Descending will blow her mind, the absolute best song by them IMO
Fear Inoculum is a joke
@@Alix777. Something you and every Taylor Swift fan may agree upon 😎
@@23Nemesis I'm pretty convinced that Taylor Swift have done better albums than Fear Inoculum, at least something more professionnal than those jams which feel like bloated rehashed material from Lateralus and 10,000 Days. I know this might be hard for some Tool fans to accept...
Feeling inside the songs is definitely a great way to describe the experience, I love seeing the connection between consciousness with the driving force being music. Their catalog takes me to so many amazing places!
Funny that you mentioned Maynard's style of placing the first word of the next line as the last word of the musical phrase... That technique is often utilized by Eminem too. It's a clever way of allowing the interaction of the two phrases to have multiple meanings, depending on which "direction" one observes them. 👍🏽😁
about 5 years ago my wife and I got a Christmas gift and it was a his and hers Flotation Therepy / sensory deprivation. We were able to pick music that would be piped into the chamber. I obviously picked Tool yes album. Have no idea what my wife picked but it was amazing. Not sure how to explain it, but that was a journey. I will be honest though, I do not think I would so it again with tool. The Holy Trinity came on and it was a bit frightening almost to the point of hitting the panic button and stop the entire thing.
Great reaction, can't get enough of people reacting to Tool :)
FYI: The reason Maynard's vocals sound so trippy on Reflection is because of a well-used technique in music production (or a variation of it). Basically, the vocal is played in reverse through a Reverb and recorded, then it is reversed again with the Reverb tail making the vocal sound like it's fading up and the strange dragging effect is the result of the reverb pre-delay (the time between the sound playing and the reverb kicking in, just milliseconds but somewhat noticeable in this context) in reverse.
More info than anyone probably wants but I find it fascinating.
At the end with Adam rocking out, I was going crazy, man, loved that.
#ToolArmy
16:43 That’s what I felt too when I was listening to Reflection for the first time; I was drawn into another dimension, almost like in a trance state. Weird, scary, yet beautiful at the same time...
Triad is this awesome jam track between our wonderful trio of geniuses. I love it so much!
Reflection has a lot of references to the mythological story of Narcissus
These songs have really helped keep me centered and humble. Great shit.
i too had the same reaction while i first listened to those three minus the talking. like you said you have to give it your full attention
There is someone saying 'Fuck!' in Triad and it's the special guest they brought on to help play drums in this track. :)
I think your screen saver is hypnotizing me. :)
Your a very nice person.
Keep spreading positivity friend!
🤷♂️🇨🇦
That sound your hearing is called a didgeridon’t
Wings for Marie p1 & p2 (10, 000 days) already! And Rosetta Stoned!!
Preventive like for tool's holy Trinity, heck yeah 😌
Reflection is a powerful song MAYNARD is a true poet
Another great reaction!! Hopefully the spider enjoyed it as well. I love the love for Vicarious. :)
Also, I petition we call those vocals of "Maynard in another dimension"... wait for it... Multiverse Maynard. :P
Ha! Love it :D
well, I'm late to the party, but let me say, what a experience, I mean, I've heard Triad a 1000x before, it feels like your consciousness is rolling through space in a brutal and inimaginable speed, it rocks... BUT this Reflection song, what in the... wow, it's just beautiful, I can feel like I'm in a place that I never was, yet I know it very well, powerful.
You might want to check out Maynard’s other band called Puscifer. Puscifer is completely different than Tool but in a good way. It’s a whole new Maynard rabbit hole to go down.
Head down tunnel down dig it on this Puscifer...
And there's a bonus track after Triad, called Faaip de Oiad, or Enochian for "Voice of God"
Apparently Adam played violin in school before moving to bass and guitar. Might be something he is using at the start of Reflection.
Another version of Maynard - Cathedral Maynard - in the Culling voices. I hope to see your reaction to it)
Love watching you reactions to "Maynard", please give a listen to Wings for Marie Pt 1 & 2...a very personal song for Maynard, about his mother, Judith Marie.
Beautiful songs
one more Maynard experienced, several more to go.
Reflection is my favorite song to listen to when i'm working
Tool is montage music for the imagination
Great Review as usual. Reflections is a great song! I like when he's singing as the moon👽imho
Its time.
Wings and 10000 days
"Descending" and Fear Inoculum" are really good if you still don't know about 10000 days
And get some angry Maynard in with Hooker With A Penis
It really is a great track. One of thier shorter songs
"Set as I am, in my ways and my arrogance, burden of proof tossed upon the believes. You were my witness, my eyes my evidence Judith Marie, UNCONDITIONAL ONE"
-MJK
Well, if you want another different Maynard, (and a great song obviously) then Rosetta Stoned is the answer.
Reflection is great to drop acid to
Crazy to think that this is now as old as Led Zeppelin was in the 90s
you've yet to hear a song from the new album I think you should try that eventually you'll probably like Fear Inoculum
Opiate album reaction next!
and my patient pants are in the wash😋
It is criminal you haven't done Eulogy yet
The instrument is a sarangi
You look just like Claudia Black
So I know that you've heard Schism prior to your channel. Maybe you could react to the music video?
That's a good idea! That's a very good idea! Thanks :)
Reflection is the song most Tool fans impregnate to.......
Interpret that how you will.............🤔
In Triad ; Maynard was just Reflecting in Disposition...lol I'm sorry but; I can't ind your reaction Video of Tool - The Pot ; where I can find it?
It doesn't exist because I knew that song before making videos.
@@MusicCatsandCoffee , oh ok; didn't get that sorry! Thanks for your real fun and honest Videos!
Yo Lauren nice reactions as always but I think it’s time you do a top ten tool songs don’t ya think ?
I recommend Eulogy. It took me a few listenings to find out that the strange sound at the beginning of the song was actually Maynard, who was making inhuman sounds through a megaphone. : D btw I'm still waiting to continue exploring Porcupine Tree.
Thank you
Nah, the clicking was Adam picking the bridge of his Les Paul
@@cooperryan6382 I did not write anything about any clicks. But about a voice modulated via a megaphone. So keep your awkward "nah" out of the way, When you don't even know what I mean.
Have u ever heard of the band, (please understand that this is the name of a real band. Sorry if I have offended u or any one around u), Fingertight. I don't think k they no longer exist but is still badass. I believe that it rivals Chevelle. That being said, their are 3 songs u should listen to, I. Particularly in this order: Magical, Guilt, and Emo this. Tell me what u think. FYI, LOVE U and ur channel.
React to the band "Ghost"
20:30
Let's just make an observation, you bit you bottom lip ALOT here. You likey.... Hehe
Tool reminds me of Slipknot in the sense that just when you think you've figured them out, they do something completely different/extraordinary
Except slipknots new song, lol. It’s atrocious.
@Jeffery Tucker what?!?!? :D
@@MusicCatsandCoffee From my perspective as a musician, haha. It’s just super busy with its guitars and drums.
Sorry but it's boring. I heard way better music
like what kind of?
@@TheJarKid I commented on that on another text directly after. It's a band named Fingertight. But I want to apologize about saying that the song is boring. I was kinda of em.....inebriated, so to speak. We all like what we like. It's not you, it's literally me. So sorry about that. There are many songs that I love that u may not and it's totally cool.
@@joeystronghold3574 it's all good man, i just wanted to know that what music u heard and thinks that's better than this, obviously everyone got his taste and it's respectable.
@@TheJarKid well.....since u asked: u can definitely look up Fingertight- specifically, magical, Guilt, and Emo This. Great songs. Man made God, Pantera specifically- semetary gates. And corrosion of conformity specifically- Albatross to name a few. I believe that even though u may love a certain band; it's not always the band, but a certain song. Also, some of these bands do not exist anymore, not sure why cause they r bad ass, so it might be a bit to look them up. With that, not sure where ur from so I don't want to keep u from sleep. I'm from Houston by the way and it's 1218 in the midnight. Perfect time for critiquing music.🙂
Oh I forgot, Smashing pumpkins- Cherub. I know what ur thinking, "Smashing freakin Pumpkins!!!!" No way, but this song I love so maybe this is just a bit of my soul coming out. If u heard it all before, I apologize. No animosity here.
