i need marques to do a video about how he organises everything in tick tick and notion
I don't think he understands the impact he could have on that very niche part of tech culture. Or maybe he does.
Heck yes dude. I would love a video like that.
He said Notion calendar - Which was Cron (notion bought them recently)
And note apps too (He use keep notes for jotting down as he mentioned. But does he use any other note apps🤔 tho)
Want this too!
Add quarterly Task "Try another Calendar App"
Marques, just launch your own Calendar/ Tasks/Notes app. You have the passion and the exposure to bring it to market.
yea +1
Great Idea, could be something like linus and his perfectionist quality products.
I mean… personally I’d appreciate a video comparing different calendars/todo list apps!
Still trying to find the right one for me
Notion
it's like theyre trying to be the Outlook software from the 90's on an Exchange server - email, calendar, to-do/tasks, all in one
MS does a great integrative Job in O365 . Can't wait to see what copilot will be capable of .
@@Funkadelic74 can't tell if this is sarcastic or not. O365 sucks absolute ass.
@@Funkadelic74 Yeah, I use it for work, and everything they described is something Outlook has had for a decade or more.
Yeah what MKBHD is describing... seems like outlook can do it too... perhaps the user experience and ui might not be that great, but works for me hahaha
Yeah, I've seen some really intricate callendars in Outlook, tasks is just to-do which isn't amazing but gets the job done and it's integrated with the calendar. Outlook email is just the industry standard, don't even try to look for better software.
last 10 seconds had me rolling
Thank you for articulating the nuance of what we’re looking for in calendar apps. I’m not as exploratory for new calendar apps, so it would be awesome to hear Marques’s pros and cons in how they fit into his real life.
My favorite calendar app is Calendar by Readdle Limited. It lets me bring in all my separate work and personal calendars, subscribe to calendars (mostly sports/tv shows), and let's me see an entire month with the events by day (that's the key for me). I use Apple reminders so that part isn't as important to me, but it has that too.
Is the calendar app on Google
I was a big fan of Readdle’s Calendars 5 I think it’s called and that was the best one I had for work and personal stuff. It was 15 bucks when I first bought it in a bundle. Now a days I just use the apple native calendar app.
I'm with Marques. I'm addicted to the todo/calendar hunt. Tried Amie as well. Seemed solid but it felt like they spent more time on the website than the app.
What do you use now for your calendar and your tasks?
After trying countless different calendar apps and note taking apps and task managing apps I always end up going back to Apple Notes and Apple Mail. Sigh.
lol I’m the same. I have a similar toxic trait in wanting to try new apps, but I’ve inevitably gone back to these apps and they just work for me. They’re visually boring and don’t have the most features, but they have the features I use so it’s inevitable…
Same
Yeah
Apple mail and calendar clears
I have the same toxic trait lmao. I've recently switched to another "all-in-one" (just calendar and to-do though, no email) called "Morgen" and so far I am really impressed with it. What I love is that there is a dedicated left bar where you can put in all the stuff you want to do in separate lists and just drag and drop them into the calendar to schedule them. It's such a simple and effective system. Oh and it's free for personal use (one calendar integration and unlimited subscribed calendars)
not only this - mail software too...
Edison mail - cannot browse folders
Outlook mail - double notifications, no notifications, notification quick actions not working
Spark email - weird design choices like "marking email as done" moves it to the archive folder, even if you moved it to one of your folders.
This and calendar apps for desktop MacOS has been a pain...
So happy to be back to IOS and not having to worry about looking for calendar / mail app
I tried too much organization/calendar/to do list/note taking/epub reader apps to care anymore. I know i'll end up using google calendar/keep/docs/mail/books etc..
I lost do much time setting a clean notion setup, importing markdown files into joplin to obsidian to then switch one note I realized I never needed more that the basic functions available on google stock apps.
In a way it is a bit like the linux philosophy: ONE simple app that does ONE simple thing and that does it well
Google keep notes does not highlight the searched keyword due to which if you search something, it will show you what notes file will have that but once you open that notes file, your searched string value could be at line number 1500.
I've enjoyed the Outlook 365 Calendar updates! They let you know how many focus hours, leisure hours, collaborators you communicated with, most often talked to, etc. etc. there are a lot of nice features to that for work, I can imagine having that functionality in everyday life would be great!
Thank you David for that beautiful visual of liking and subscribing with the Vision Pro... 😂
I would love to see all the apps Marques and team use on the daily! I think you all did that awhile back but I would love an update!. Android and iOS. PLEASE!!!
Marques, Please make a video for our calendar app enthusiastic!!!!🙏🙏
Always a good day when waveform uploads 🎉🎉🎉❤❤
Bruv, I'm gonna show up any time you start talking about calendar apps!
Marques, you should do a video where you and everyone of your crew details their organizational apps, and how they use them! =)
Man I love this team
that "uh- oh' at 7:07 was 😆😆
I’m also a freak about calendars and to do lists! This was so fun to hear about!
Listening to marques talk about calendars was incredibly interesting🤣
I don't understand the guy that questions the need for a new calendar, but has an Arc sticker. It is for the same reason.
Yeah, exactly. Btw..I'm using Amie for a week now. I've never been so excited about the Calendar / Todo app. This might be it! It's so well designed. Obviously not for everybody, definitely not for that guy :D
Apple fan boy
aesthetics are important for some ppl
Because Arc Sesrch/Browser...
Marques is my spirit animal that man speaks my thoughts
I would love a hybrid to mix everything.
I'm so deep in the google and apple ecosystem that I would love something that could access the info there.
But ultimately I miss the app 30/30 so much. I loved that it gave an estimate time of when you would finish every task. Never found another app like that.
We need to get an update on this at some point
Not really a calendar (I mean it can be but isn’t it’s focus) I have been using and fell in love with obsidian.
It replaced many apps for me already. It’s super versatile and the best notes app I have seen so far
I’m sorry but Amie app logo looks like something else…..
Timepage for calendar & Actions for todo ... incredible apps and beautiful design
+1 to Timepage but not Actions (until they make it 100% sync with Apple Reminders)
That's how you answer curious questions
Let’s just help him find one, once and for all.
it's like wives, even when you find "the one", it's always exciting to mess with young and beautiful ones.
I've been looking for a new calendar app this past week coincidentally 😂
i would love it if marques had a second channel where he reviews pieces of software. that’d be awesome!
Putting my vote in for a full break down of the best calendars, why and why not, best emails, why and why not, and best todo lists why and why not, and finally the most up to date workflow. Update me every time you change it or at least once a year like “what’s in my bag”!!
You and Ali Abdall I wonder about this at least every 3 months
I didn't realize how much I lean on my calendar until today. Notion and calendar app and basically the center of my universe.
What i really miss is the Nokia Symbian s40(?) feature that allows you to copy a text and automatically opens and pastes it into the calendar app.
Notion + Notion Calendar = best combo.
I love if those 3 things can be combined and it works well. It would be awesome
“ I’m just the guy who shakes the hat” haha!
OK I absolutely love your videos however, this one regarding the calendars I am 100% lost on what calendar should be going with. Lol.
Need a video of marquees workflow setup and how he uses diff productivity apps
marques needs to disconnect from the callender apps LOL
The proprietary app we use at my workplace has calendar, email, task, chat, videocall, all in one. Web and mobile alike. Wish it was used outside of a closed-off environment, it’s so organised… i have yet to find something similar for personal use. I really relate to Marquez struggle ahah
No way Marques has the same prod stack as me. Superhuman, TickTick and Notion Calendar (formerly Cron). I also use Routine which is a very good choice too.
Would love to hear the group's thoughts on the idea of a 'second brain' and if they use any specific apps, like Notion or Obsidian to stay organized.
Nothing replaces the ease of using Google Calendar. I can talk to my phone and add a task or event and it all just shows up in one spot i can glance at. I love notion but until my google tasks sync there, I can't use it. Being able to set tasks with my voice is crucial because I have adhd. I wont write it down if i have to open an app to type.
Great outro man
I tend to gravitate toward To-Do Lists apps versus calendar apps
It's like I'd like to see more about the experience of trying the new hybrid app.
I get it. I see a need for and or it may already be in the works but an "Assistant" app that can tackle all of this and eliminate multiple app use. Then it goes back to relying on and training Ai technology. Also, I use Tick Tick aggressively and identify as a short entry type when I should be blocking out time and detailing. I am interested in learning more about the Superhuman and Notion Calendar recipe.
3:50 LMAOOOO
I am also a calendar freak and even the most basic thing like hanging out with my buddies, I find myself having to block off the time and add location. I add notes if needed and attach files that are relevant. If I'm spending the day with someone or a group of people and we're doing multiple things that day like going out to eat, going to the movies, walking through the park seeing sites, I will block off each event separately. But I'm also very much tied to Google's ecosystem and prefer the synchronicity of Google and it is a digital assistant that I prefer not to get better features from a different calendar app and help Google's continue to evolve.
Honestly a calendar app with a good solid UI for inputting data and working with events is a gamechanger!
I honestly just use the iOS calendar because it works with my personal preferences for basic calendaring and exchange sync, but I've been considering changing lately!
I will like this video tomorrow with the Vision Pro :)
As a big Notion head and calendar enthusiast, I've been thrilled with Notion Calendar. It's been a game changer for me. I don't use todo apps so I'm not super interested in Aime, but my todos always fall off my plate so maybe i should lol
I would like you to cover a review session of Motion Camera app for its RAW videography.
Does anyone know a good reminder app which is based on your location. E.g. it reminds me to buy milk when I walk by a grocery store?
I love trying new apps, but always come back to my Google workflow.
Add task with Google assistant voice
Drag task from Google tasks to Google calendar
Organise my tasks for that day directly in the calendar
As a person who watched the 1h+ podcast, should I watch this clip as well?
yes
No, touch grass
@@rph_redacted lol
I too, like Good Calendar apps. Do a Tier list video for All of them
I am very organized just by using default Notes and Calendar app.
Apple needs a full screen calendar widget option with a month view that allows you to tap individual dates!
I am constantly trying new calendar apps and to do apps - just never happy with any of them. I am trying Morgen calendar right now - which is a hybrid but it actually pulls your to do lists from the app you are using...for me that's Microsoft todo and google tasks. Not sure of the other apps it can integrate with. So far so good...
The problem is the integration between Apple Calendar, Outlook, and Google. Some don’t talk with each other. Like Notion/Cron only talks to Google Calendar. Then you add those 3rd party calendars on top of that and it becomes a huge mess.
I don’t know how Marques does it. You end up with several notifications. I had it once where I got a Google Calendar, Apple, Outlook, Cron/Notion, and etc all popped on my screen. It just becomes a mess and kind of annoying.
Plus the annoying situation of everything is a subscription now. So if you want to do everything the built in apps already do for free you have to pay 2-10 bucks a month to even use the app properly. If I see something has an IAP subscription it gets deleted or not downloaded.
And some productivity apps you have to sell others on the system. But just like Marques I will continue to download and try them because I am in productivity app hell 😂
Not me just rolling with gCal and the Notes app, peak efficiency
I’ve tried many calendars, but I don’t see my self going away from Fantastical Calendar anytime soon.
Has Marques never heard of Outlook?
With Teams, Outlook, and Office in general, you have tasks, to-do lists, emails, calls, messages, word and the rest of Office, all contained and integrated.
We have it at work and I honestly can’t really think of any major negatives besides the occasional bugs and glitches but they’re relatively rare.
All in one solutions are great at being a jack of all trades, but more focused apps are logically going to be better at thee specific things they focus on than an all in one will be.
Amie is designed by some of the previous lead designers of N26 btw :)
Andrew repping the Devils, LFG
lol I’m definitely obsessed with calendar apps 😩
Interesting podcast. I just switched to Samsung's native email and calendar apps and i think they're better than Google's. Google email often makes me delete the same emails 2 or 3 times before they actually disappear from my inbox Vs Samsung email which is a lot more reliable so far.
I've tried a few but I hate when their app breaks due to 3rd party app partners updating and break the functional connection.
I want a calendar which allows me to use different fonts and different sizes of type. I want to have tentative plans versus must-do items.
Nothing beats notes email reminder apps
I obsess over calendar as well. So far, weekcal has been the best for me.
WAIT IS 7:53 possible on any current calendar app? (integrating when do you listen to spotify)
My Uni only provides exporting my schedule to iCalendar, which works fine for ma as a mac/iphone user. All these alternative calendar apps i looked at so far only provide google integration even though they are mac/ios exclusive. Amie looks really interesting I would love to have that drag&drop tasks onto your calendar feature. Pricing for Amie seems a bit ridiculous for 10$ a month.
If someone knows a great calendar/tasks,reminder app for Mac and iOS that allows ics import let me know!
Has Marques ever looked into using Microsoft Lists and its different views for a calendar or task manager? It's probably the most customizable thing he'll find
where's marques' hoodie from? so cleannnnn
It's a small thing but I used to be able to touch and drag appointments around on the Google Calendar app on my Android 10 phone. I've tried reinstalling, clearing the cache and pretty much everything apart from factory resetting the phone. A very small but annoying annoyance.
the guy on the left is such an apple fan boy
I need the review please, I read the article too but don’t know if I can commit
Honestly even just the idea of an app telling me how many steps I took on x day gives me anxiety, let alone merging together that, the songs I listen to, my calendar, etc. I have no idea how that's appealing to anyone, to me it's a big ick immediately both from the standpoint of there being a one-stop shop for people to get ALL the info about me, and in terms of "I have better goddamn things to do with my life than gather stats and data about every aspect of my life."
It's all about fantastical.
That’s an expensive calendar app subscription
I just want a good privacy option for to-dos and calendar, Proton have a calendar but it feels somewhat sluggish.
Spatial Safari🤣
Amie is awesome, sad that it only works with google calendar
As an apple user i want to have the same information displayed cross device and also accessible and editable via siri etc
Im curious if Marques has tried the Calendar in HEY ? You can only use it if your using a HEY email but I would be really curious to hear his opinion because I think we see things similarly.
come on guys give us a video of marques' TickTick management
Interested to know if Marques has tried Moleskine’s Timepage calendar app or Actions app?
Business Calender 2 (made in Berlin
My favourite calendar app is Structured in the apple store. I use it for daily life with ADHD tho, so I’m not sure if you’ll find it as helpful.
I wanted to like Amie so much... but in the 2 weeks I tried it, there were countless usability bugs and updates that downright broke the app. the mobile app often took 4 or 5 taps for actions that normally take 2 or 3. It's beautiful, but not functional :(
Business Calendar 2.0 is the OP Calendar.
Marques you should develop your calendar app.
motion is the best
