I think the big players are dragging their feet with assistants because most people don’t use them. Yeah in the tech community we want them to be better, but normal people rarely if ever interact with Siri or google assistant throughout the day. Most people just take out their phone and do what they want to do.

@@jmc042 I do think that companies should take the initiative to make assistance better, but from a business standpoint it doesn’t make them money at this point in time. No one walks into the store and says “which phone has the best AI assistant? that’s the one I’m gonna buy.”
Until people start buying phones because of AI the companies aren’t going to invest too much money into it.
As someone who’s fairly into technology, what additional features are people looking for? I feel like Siri does most of the things I want it to pretty well these days. set timers/alarms, play songs on Spotify, send a message while I’m driving, start navigation by voice, set reminders.
Maybe I’m missing something lol
@@jkacvbhijfn Siri is not as integrated as tech people would like. It's technically an assistant, but it's very elementary. Like you can't say "hey Siri order me an Uber home"
You can only use Siri to open the Uber app.
I think you are spot on: I have one (1!) friend who actually uses the assistant in their phone and that person is a hardcore techie-apple-fanboy... I usually forget that they are a thing, unless someone brings them up on the internet...
I think dedicated AI assistant devices are like 3D TVs, everyone thinks they need it but then end up not using it

10:30 The "you carry around a camera separate from your phone, so I want a separate AI assistant for the same reason" argument makes no sense. If you're a photographer you can get better pictures with a dedicated camera because it had a giant sensor on it that will never be put into a smartphone made for normal people. What would a dedicated AI gadget possibly have that couldn't be put into a phone?

ai is insanely useful if you use it right, its used every day in so many commercial ways and i use it like 20-30 times a week personally for accelerating research
AI devices that can't set timers are stupid. Even Siri could do that since the start probably. It's such a basic feature.
For sure is actually a good use case for hands free interaction when cooking and need to set a time but hands are busy or covered in food. Also literally all computers rely on a fairly accurate internal clock to run the instructions so a timer isn't even like an optional thing the computer needs an oscillator to operate.
rabbit people are deluding themselves if they think apple / google / meta can't catch up to them on the AI front. Sounds like major cap and or cope.

Concerning the LAM ... what training did it get and why is it not able to perform anything? Where is the advantage that Rabbit is claimed to have?
Honestly I'd love the idea of some sort of minimalist android phone app which like many apps before got rid of social media and such while keeping the important bits like uber or alarms, while also incorporating this style of AI assistant. Looking at the previews I love the way the mascot looks along with the way it jumps around depending on what you're asking of it.
Google should release something like this for Google assistant.

I have to wonder if because the AI was built to be a somewhat general purpose and "can" connect to certain apps that it ends up having flaws like not setting timers where as most AI systems that are doing well is because they are very specific?

Calculator iOS app would be great. When I first got an iPad, I was so bummed it couldn't do math. And it would be pretty cool Siri could answer more difficult questions instead of giving you a Google search. Siri has gotten worse overtime.

I don't know why this is better than Google assistant on my phone. What advantages does it have? I don't know why is want a separate device that is interior to the one I already have in my pocket.

Bootleg kind of makes sense, since the term originally referred to unauthorised copies of movies recorded on VHS and distributed through side channels, it doesn't imply that it's some third party from scratch recreation. It was deliberately chosen for negative connotations, but it's not too far off

Those zello radios are also basically an android phone with just one app (zello) but it is nice because you got the proper device for a specific app.

Even if rabbit r1 is available as an app, i think people would still buy the hardware.
There are also Zello radios that run full android and can install other apps as well.
Google can do pretty much everything r1 does, and better. I doubt if anyone would use it if it's just an App

Isn't this whole situation happening because a Large Action Model is very expensive and providing an app that costs 300 bucks to make up for it is very unrealistic but packaging it inside a hardware case and charging the same for it makes more sense to the customer? (Not that I would ever pay 300 bucks for a chat box that can sometimes do something useful)
This is exactly the reason tech companies lose money for years before they even start to become profitable, you can't ask consumers to pay ridiculously high prices up front just because it was expensive to develop.
it's a device instead of an app because it'll likely make them more money. if it was an app, it'd either have to be free with a ton of ads and maybe some sort of subscription model, or it'd have to be a paid app. my guess would be free to download but requires a membership. and maybe they ran the numbers and realized it wouldn't make them that much money, so selling a physical product was their option

The app of Chat gpt 4 first leading AI right now. 2nd you can speak to it (pick different voices). Third the whole take a picture ask a question about the pic yup works better with chatgpt 4. fourth you can feed it files to go over and ask question about the files. 5th your already on a phone it can do all the phone things. 6 chat gpt 4 can make picture. 7th you can move the ai from phone to computer It's an account so your not stuck to one device. why has no one done this comparison video?

The Nintendo Switch Lite is cheaper than this thing.
$196 is not that much cheaper and honestly the Switch Lite is a scam. It's nothing like the regular Switch in that it is ONLY portable. It's far WORSE of a product than the Switch or the Rabbit R1.

A 200$ low tier smartphone is better than the Rabit R1 and any 700$ smartphone is way better and more practical than the humane pin. Two garbage products at their cringiest
True, but at least with the Rabbit R1, if they do release the Teach Me feature it could be really awesome. Imagine programming a function that would normally take you 30 seconds to do and the R1 does it in a second.
