Well, she walks right up to and asks, “are you a real police officer?” She must’ve been 6 or 7. Granted, it was a costume store and they do have the LEO costume.

My dads a cop in Canada and whenever we see another cop we always say “Act natural” and sit straight up and make ourselves look like we are trying not to be seen.

Remember Bill Engvall's "Here's your sign" routine? Some of the questions that people ask cops deserve those "I'm stupid!" signs. Maybe cops should have a box of those things to hand out to those that ask stupid questions that require smartass answers.
They should have post-it notes that have sayings previously written on them so they can not only give a stupid person a citation but smack a "reminder" on the forehead of how stupid, idiot, moron, etc they are. Proper labeling of dumb people is the key to life.

Personally If I were a LEO, I'd rather hear cheesy/awkward comments than some of the typical vile crap that comes from people mouths toward officers. lol!

You nailed it! The one that irritates me the most is being out in public (grabbing food, gas, etc...) and someone says to their kid "that cop is gonna put you in jail if you dont behave here!" Naturally, I want to explain to them that their poor parenting skills is not my problem, but I usually just kneel down to the kid and tell them something to the effect of "I know you'll be good, always remember to follow the rules and dont LIE (as I look up to the parent)". Then I give them a sticker or tattoo or whatever I'm carrying with me.
My mothers a dispatcher and so i grew up around the officers and whenever they come in my school ill say something cheesy like the "i didn't do it" bit and they usually comeback with something or just cuff me and make me late to class the point to that story is whenever theyre in public and somebody else does it they stare at them blank faced and slowly turn around and walk away and its always the funniest thing to see. Anyways stay safe and keep doing what you do you've got my support

Working in a c-store for years, provided many tips and leads or "hosted" incidences. The familiarity may be why our local guys did find it amusing if I sometimes greeted them with, "Hey, I was on the other side of town when that happened!" One chuckled as he replied, "That's interesting, because that's where this happened." LOL

I have been a ride along many times. It's funny what people say or ask. I rode with the Sgt. of the first shift of our police Dept in our little town. The first ride I always start off with why did you become a cop. Usually you get the "Because I was raised here and wanted to give back". The Sgt. Caught me off guard. I asked him "what made you choose Law Enforcement?". He says "Health Insurance."

I feel like that is something everyone does. Working in the public safety radio world, whenever we go somewhere people always ask if we are there to make the wifi or cell signal better followed by the same laugh.
We had our city's tactical team rolled out for assistance at a call. Someone entirely uninvolved walked up and asked what was going on. As the tactical team's SUV was up on the boulevard, I pointed at the truck and told them it was a parking complaint. They actually believed me :P

In today’s day and age so many people are so quick to say that cops are terrible people that just wanna cause problems for people. Dude. I can sympathize. I've been a Firefighter for 15 years and people can be rough to be around. Something about the uniform makes people want to force terrible small talk. Especially at a grocery store for us.

I watch a lot of live pd. One thing that I see often, is when someone gets stopped and the officer finds drugs and the suspect says this isn't my car or these aren't my pants/jacket.
The dumbest thing some did to me while I was at a restaurant eating my lunch was a very old lady who approached my table and pulled out a .38 special revolver and points it at me “ can you please take it..my husband died two years ago and that thing scares me I don’t want it at the house anymore “...yes..I shit my pants

I see a couple local boys in uniform in a gas station/Subway/convenience store having coffee in the dining room area and they appear to just be shootin' the shit and on break. We have been getting a lot of round-a-bouts installed in our town and county and I really wanted to know what the law was on entering, exiting, etc. because the turn signal law cannot be applied and I have seen many accidents because people just don't know what to do. So I go up and ask them that question. I was expecting a general, polite "hey, leave us alone, we're on break" kind of thing. It was surreal. I ended up sitting with them and chatting about that subject for 15 minutes. They gave me their cards without me asking, one said that he has a query into the legislature concerning updating the traffic code to clarify the law, they gave me websites to check on to keep tabs...I left there feeling like I had made two new friends. That is the first time I have ever approached a cop like that. Most of the time it's drivers license, registration and proof of insurance...
