One thing I love about police in Texas is how quick, curtious, and friendly they are. TWICE I didn't have the appropriate paperwork in my vehicle and the officer just used my license to figure it out. And after the shooting against my home city's police in Dallas, I was driving back home from out of state and as soon as I crossed the state line, I wished to speak to law enforcement simply cause I have a lot of care for them. My wish was granted and I was pulled over the next half hour. The State Trooper issued me a warning and asked if everything was going good. I explained and he talked with me for the next 15 minutes about life. Those and many other instances has truly brought me to love our first responders.

As a motorcycle rider, I think you’re absolutely right. If I screw up in a car it’s a fender bender. If I screw up on a bike I could be dead in the same crash. So we have to pay more attention out there. And watch out for cops, of course. 😉

He’s right though. Sometimes you’ll get 3 or 4 subpoenas a week and it never fails you always have court bright and early the morning after you work night shift. Plus it seems every time you DO go to court, you sit in court for the entire day, waiting, and then at 4:00 pm they tell you they don’t need you.

401, you’re absolutely right about bikers being more attentive on the road than other drivers. For us, the stakes are far higher because we don’t have panes of metal and airbags to protect us from collisions. Once you get hit, you’re done. Even if you somehow survive, you may never walk again, or end up losing a limb. In my honest opinion, riding a motorcycle without being attentive and cautious is as unforgiving as handling a loaded firearm without practicing proper safety procedures.

I think the question 'why do cops need guns' comes from here in Britain, where there is currently a massive debate over the question after the terror attacks, knife crime surge and acid attacks which were unchallenged due to the average officer being unarmed to the point of needing to call in weapons specialists to get access to a taser should a suspect become violent, and god forbid they end up with a shots fired.

The horizontal gaze nystagmus is legit. We learned the various causes for nystagmus in PA (physician assistant) school and alcohol is definitely listed as a cause. Drunk drivers can hate all they want. It's legit.

Someone told me cops don’t shake hands because they shake with their dominant hand ( which is gun side most likely ) , so while their shaking hands, the other person can grip it tightly and grab the cops gun with their other hand. Not sure if that’s the reason but that’s what I was told

The issue I have with some bikers is; when they drive between two cars on the center line - for miles at a time on the interstate, or even on regular streets, when they we've in and out of cars when there is barely any room for them to do so, when, at a stop light, they figure they're too good for everyone else and ride to the front of the line rather than staying put where they originally were-in the line of other cars that also stopped for a light or sign...and yet they are more aware. Or how about those that race to get in fron to of a car only to stop suddenly for a light, as an example, and then complain when the car they just passed in order to do this gets just alittle to close - i don't mean touch the bike but close because of what the motorcycle rider just did...

When I went to their youth Trooper Academy a few years back they said South Dakota's one of the few states that do that and they told us they just do it just to make sure that they won't run away or to watch their body language to see if they're lying about stuff

Thank you for acknowledging that bikers are more aware of traffic and their surroundings... Most people who don't ride do not realize the "sixth sense" that you develop just a few months after you start riding... Also I'll admit the biggest thing I'm looking for are marked and unmarked police because it is SO easy to go above the limit on motorcycles....and we DO get pulled over... But there's much fewer motorcyclists on the road compared to cars, that statistically the odds of a cop running into a biker breaking the law is lower than someone in a car...also many bikers ride Harleys/cruisers who couldn't speed if they wanted to (sorry had to say it)...

I find your videos most interesting, and with some of them, I feel like I am back I'm the classroom. Often, when you are discussing US Supreme Court rulings, and 9 times out of 10, you can start describing a case, I can name the case and the year of the decision before you even get close to giving it. It makes me feel like I am back in the classroom, like I said earlier because I miss the comradeship that I had with the city officers, sheriffs deputies, state troopers and the professor. One incident I will never forget because of the chuckle value. There was a trooper that sat on one side of me, and one time he looked at the note pad that I used in this class, and he said "Purks, your handwriting looks like a soused Road Island Red that knocked over an ink well and staggered across a sheet of paper. It is things like that I miss, and sometimes one of your videos brings these memories back and that is one of the reasons I really like your videos.

As an ER doctor I can tell you that nystagmus testing is legit. Also, interestingly enough, different types of nystagmus can tell you different things. For example, PCP is one of the rare drugs that causes vertical nystagmus as compared to most other drugs/etoh which cause horizontal nystagmus. Although nystagmus can also be caused by a number of medical problems as well (i.e. inner ear issues, etc.) and most normal (i.e. healthy and not intoxicated) people have some amount of end gaze nystagmus but this always fatigues after a few beats...... probably more than you ever wanted to know about nystagmus but I couldn't resist geeking out :)

"I can't even do that sober"
I wonder how many people even understood that that IS the answer.
Oh and, as far as marking tires goes. The cops around here have been known to mark tires on cars that are sitting at the bar. From what my lawyer told me, it's illegal, but it boils down to a "prove it" situation.

We love you sir but I miss you riding around doing this in your car. The way you would move when explaining, the way we could see your passion without seeing you was amazing, so I hope you do it again one day!

Wait.. I thought the "bend over and cough" thing was for people smuggling weapons in their personal suitcase.. supposedly if you bend over and cough with a weapon it would stab you, so the people that smuggle weapons will give up and say they are "packing" ?

If your bending over and coughing on the side of the road , your life has taken a horrible turn. You’d be shocked what ppl will do to try and prevent jail and what and where ppl will try to conceal items.

I’m actually getting one of those scooters until I can get enough money to get a motorcycle license and take the class and because I don’t like driving cars and I just want to be able to park and if someone tries to block me in I can just move it easily.
Keep up the good work Officer401
