  • So here is the run video of the Kyosho Optima that was very graciously donated to the channel. I ran this a few weeks ago and just have been jumping through hoops with other stuff and I am just now getting it posted. I had some glitching issues which I have since fixed. Turned out to be a wonky receiver. I have bought probably over 100 of these now so this being the first wonky one out of them is not too bad at all!
Thank you so very much for the wonderful present to the channel and I really hope the paint job makes you proud and the I absolutely adore it and think it looks fantastic and it will be a cherished part of my collection for sure! The buggy is great but the story that goes along with it makes it priceless!! Thank you!
You guys are all awesome and I appreciate all the great comments and questions from everyone. Really enjoying talking to you all in the comments section.

Addam the Optima looks out of this world, it look great on the bench but outside in the light the silver really pops against the blue. An amazing paint job Addam 👏👏 👍👍

Thanks Craig! I took a big risk with the chrome and the silver side by side but it worked out very well. It is a great looking buggy to start with and I think it is really hard to paint them badly, Even in a single color they look great! This one does make me slime when I look at it though!

I’ve been liking that yellow Kyosho on the shelf over your shoulder. The color really pops and it seems like nobody collects those so it’s cool to see.

Thanks! I need to do a video on that one as well! It really did turn out looking cool and I did it in the fluorescent yellow and it really pops! I have the Outrage MKII to do as well but I have not found those stickers yet. I may end up going with something completely one-off since I cannot find the originals for a price I am willing to pay.

They do have a unique sound to them! This one is a little louder than my Optima Gold but I think it is just the difference in the grease. When they built this one they went with a lighter grease in it and think the sticky green Kyosho grease makes them a little quieter. Still a great running buggy, well now that the glitch is fixed it is! It will be back for another run since this one was cut short due to the cut-outs in power.

Thanks Mark! I love the way it turned out and I am glad I risked it with the chrome and silver side by side. It was going to be a good look or an epic fail, thankfully it worked out well! It does drive well when it stays under power! I swore it was going to be the esc but ended up being the receiver. I hate electrical gremlins, they are always hard to locate! it will be back for another track run once it dries out some more so I can get a proper run video of it!

I am still extremely humbled by the generosity of folks. The gifts I have been given are all greatly appreciated and I often wonder "why me, why give this to me?" But I am truly thankful and grateful for everything that has been gifted my way and I try to give back. Batteries and motors are better than they used to be for sure! The old ones hold up pretty well and it probably would not take too much to get it up to snuff for some running around again. Thanks Glenn! I do love the look of it and the wheels were a perfect touch! This is a little louder than the other as the gearbox was built with a thinner grease so a little bit more of the gear noise comes through. Yeah, the glitchy thing was really driving me bonkers and I only drove it that long as I was trying to determine what part was shutting down. Hey Adam,
Very interesting glitch, back in the day I had a similar issue with my Turbo Optima cutting out due to radio interference. Turned out I needed to move my receiver away from the rotating chain. I would think with 2.4 radios this would no longer be an issue but may be something to consider if you are running the chain drive.
    Otherwise great looking Optima...

Thank you! I am super happy with the way it turned out! This was the first time with a glitchy receiver but I should not be too surprised. I have been buying the $15-18 knockoff Spektrum receivers for a long time and was bound to get on eventually that was not quite right! I am pretty sure I have close to if not more than 100 of them now! This one is belt drive but I could see where that chain drive could make enough interference with the signal. I think this was one that snuck by a QC check!

Thank you Nanni! I love the looks of this one and it drives well, well it does now that I have gotten the glitch to go away! The big jump is coming out of there this fall once it cools off some. I like it but I want to both see the whole track and to be able to run the rally cars around it too. I am taking the jump out and building some smaller ones I can move around to different places on the track to change it up from time to time. Where I stand I can see the inner curve, it is just the difference of turning on the dirt and turning on the carpet often makes me turn into the center section a little too early. The flips were caused by the unglued tires rolling off the wheel and making it tumble. That was my fault for forgetting to glue them!

When they built it they did not use the thicker green Kyosho grease and put a thinner grease in there so the gearbox is a bit louder. I think the thick grease makes them much quieter.
