I won my first race with an Optima in 1987. I loved that car. I changed the ball ends and stuff for Associated cups and ball ends because the kit parts wore out very quickly and would pop off with the slightest bump. The Option House gold shocks made a huge difference too and I bet you could hustle around an outdoor track even with some of the modern cars. The 12mm hexes were standard even back then. If you found some wheels with a similar offset, I bet the Optima could be a decent club level racer.
amazing video and I have order 2 of these kits and I still have the original version with Kyosho Optima turbo and I order 2 coz 1 for collection and other for fun run 👍👍👍
Great job. I have wanted one these since i was 10 years old, so I bought two.One for the case (shelf) one to bash. oh and the great thing about Rc is there are no rules..
I am so close to taking one to race it in our winter indoor series, against modern cars... It has zero chance at making the podium, but if I could land it in the A and PO a few of the more hardcore racers, I'd be so happy :D I can still run a proper car in the 2wd class that same day ;)
Great video, I really like all your videos. I got one of these cars and I was wondering if the extra holes in the front A-arms are to move the suspension to a steeper angle?
+ShortCourseWorld Hey! First time that I've come across your channel..... great info and delivery! Subscribed! What mah are you running with 2s? What kind of run times are you finding? Excellent kit, I will be adding one to my stable!
Awesome video! Just a beautiful car. I cringed when you flipped it in the footage. I haven't raced rc. cars in 16 years. Now at 44 Im catching the bug again. Plus I live 5 min from superior hobbies huge indoor track. I just found out it was there. Are you possible going to come to Fl for any races?
The chain had issues. After a while it would stretch out and you would need to go in and remove links. A nightmare from a maintenance point of view. I believe the belt was offered as an upgrade when this kit was released in 1985 - I'm not sure. My Optima is on its way. I'm going to use the chain simply for nostalgia purposes. It will mainly be a shelf queen anyway.
I don't really know anything about these rc's I just found this little motor for one and was wondering if I could use it in another RC. So it's a Kyosho 240SB, and i'm looking to get a 1/10 scale desert buggy. I'm just wondering if it will fit in something like that and or if it's actually a better motor to replace a stock one.
IlikePiE28228 the 240sb is from the late 80's, it's a 4 min modified motor. Funny thing is yesterday I stuck a 4200mah battery in my vintage ultima pro with a 240sb. Cars first time out in may be 30 yrs. The car was fast until I grenaded the motor! Heated up bad, windings came out.
I like that Kyosho does this but Tamiya still make quite a few kits in Japan, and then the rest in the Philippines. This kit is made in Taiwan. Yeah yeah, no ones cares but me, lol.
Yep you broke the rules, you prematurely assembled one of the wheels but most of all you didn't even smell the tire I feel that in the world of R/C kits that's a sin, HA,HA,HA. Great unboxing, except for the sin!!!!!!! Ralphie
why does everyone post running video of cars in slow motion, in 35 years of running rc's i've never had or even heard of one that had a slow motion setting. it would be really nice to see how a car runs in real time, after all that's the way we'd have to drive it!!!!
I purchased this exact thing in 1987, and I still have it!!
There's a real joy in building these old over engineered cars that's lacking in modern cars. Plus I think they look cooler too

built the original kit back in '88. it was cheaper than an RC10 back then. was an awesome awesome car to build and play around with. loved this car.
YES , WOW , I BOUGHT 1 OF THESE IN 1988 _89 I WAS 14 YRS OLD AND I ENJOYED BUILDING THIS CAR AND RACED IT AND WON A FEW TIMES.👍
Getting one soon. My first R/C was an Optima back in '86. Loved it. Bashed the crap out of it and never broke anything but the body.
Just a great movie. Thanks. Greetings from Vienna.
i just finished a scorpion 2014 and i'm a vintage kyosho fanboy now.
lovely kit, I want one of these too! thanks.
That is really awesome well-built to it's actually built better than the ones of today from what I see great video
Is not as fast as today's cars but damn it looks 10 times better. Good job brother beautiful car.
excellent review as per usual. i dig the bashing and video editing at the end too.
I had one back in the day, in fact I may have it in a box here somewhere. We called it the Kyosho Turtle, known for flipping on it's lid all the time.
No motor included in the box? Not even the bog-standard Mabuchi 540?
I had one of those back in the day. I removed the chain and ran it in 2wd mod oval. No one could touch it....!!!
That's Awesome Jason. I had the Turbo Optima mid year's ago with a chain drive. Sadly I no longer have it.
amazing video and I have order 2 of these kits and I still have the original version with Kyosho Optima turbo and I order 2 coz 1 for collection and other for fun run 👍👍👍
Great video Jason! I believe there was an addendum to correct the turnbuckle length....I missed it too! lol
+The RCNetwork - Hmm i'll have to take a look! Thanks Rich :)
you guys rock!
Great job. I have wanted one these since i was 10 years old, so I bought two.One for the case (shelf) one to bash. oh and the great thing about Rc is there are no rules..
Awesome Unboxing and Review. I had the Turbo Optima Mid. I wish I had it again.
Great vid! I had one back in 86. Loved it. I will be getting a new one!

Amazing looking build, nice editing in the running videos, I really liked it! You should do more like this. Keep up the good work. Cheers
That is awesome!
If they had the same motor + electronics + tires + battery, how much faster would a 2016 buggy be?
Also,I got it today!
I’m exciting to assemble it!
Great video, I really like all your videos. I got one of these cars and I was wondering if the extra holes in the front A-arms are to move the suspension to a steeper angle?

Awesome video! Just a beautiful car. I cringed when you flipped it in the footage. I haven't raced rc. cars in 16 years. Now at 44 Im catching the bug again. Plus I live 5 min from superior hobbies huge indoor track. I just found out it was there. Are you possible going to come to Fl for any races?
Will you be reviewing the Turbo Scorpion?
It's looks sooo fast I wish I grew up with these
I'm 13 so I'm with the mid motors
a trick for stickers or decals is windex instead of soap and water .
Great review ! Love the classics ! I have an vintage kyosho wildcat ! Thanks !!
Hello, thanks for your video. Can tell us the electronics reference number that goes whith your car ? Thanks in advance.
Are you ever going to do reviews on short course trucks because that's your channel name
Was the belt an upgrade back when the original was released? Was there problems with the chain?

very nice, wonder what the insanity factor would be with a 3800kv 3656sl quicrun 4-pole in one
Tree fiddy

I would love to see video of it on a race track. Nice video.

I have to dry fit a tire on a new kit. Like popping bubble wrap..
I have 2 even older ones if anyone is interested, front mono shock car
Damn I'm getting too used to your videos. At the beginning of the video I was expecting you to fit a J Concepts Finisher body on it ;)

Awesome Video!
Have you quit making videos entirely? Or moved to another channel....?
I like that Kyosho does this but Tamiya still make quite a few kits in Japan, and then the rest in the Philippines. This kit is made in Taiwan. Yeah yeah, no ones cares but me, lol.
Epic!
Asplenia.
I have the first one made if anybody wants to make a trade. A little rough but all their.
Yep you broke the rules, you prematurely assembled one of the wheels but most of all you didn't even smell the tire I feel that in the world of R/C kits that's a sin, HA,HA,HA.
Great unboxing, except for the sin!!!!!!!

uhg..slow mo. It gives the impression that ANY RC is fun to drive. Not the case.
That "cheapie 17.5T [you] can't remember where you got it from" is obviously Hobbyking's... C'mon... ;)
Is nice :)
You should review Traxxas, Losi and Hpi products!
