    Thank you so much for this info. I’m a 71 year old lady and managed to replace a mitre joint on my bungalow. A bit of jiggling required due to overhanging tiles but great satisfaction when it clipped into place x

    Good advice clearly explained. The Vaseline/Silicon grease tip was a real gem. Some people lather the joints in mastic or silicon sealant, but that will usually leak after a few weeks. Replacement rubber seals are the best option.

      Thanks for your comment, I agree that if you can get the rubber seals, that's definitely the best option

    Don't use vaseline or any petroleum product as a lubricant with rubber - it will gradually eat away at the rubber. Use silicone grease instead.

      Anyone who's read the instructions for using a condom would know that. 😆

    • @akaWooders
      @akaWooders 7 місяців тому +2

      However, I wouldn't recommend getting out the silicone grease when using a condom either, you might get a negative reaction in more ways than one! Other lubricants are available for that 'job'. 😉

    Just done mine before seeing this video
    Some good advice.
    The new joint was £3.99 which is excellent value for money. Attaching the rear part of the bracket was the hardest part. I put it in sideways then turn it around which helped . I also put in a little sealant membrane on the joint inside as I noticed the gutter had warped a little and wasn’t very flush .
    Everything become easy …. Once you have had the experience

      @@FixitwithFowler thanks. Yes I've modified lower guttering, so I can reuse the original part for the top guttering that's broke. It's all terrain stuff I believe. It's those little clips that clamp the fittings together. Unusual design but they lasted a long long time. Yeah I can see if I can't replace those seals. 🙏👋🤞

    The video was going so well until it missed out the vital part of getting the clips on the back side . Clearly a problematic area which probably entailed several attempts and copious amounts of strong language! I only comment as mine has exactly this problem (dripping rather than running though) and I can foresee the clips snapping at some point as they are currently refusing to budge when trying to remove them! 😂

    • @FixitwithFowler
      @FixitwithFowler  Рік тому +1

      If you look at about 5.40, it shows how to install the clips. However, they are a nightmare, and if the weather is cold, the guttering clips and guttering are less flexible and the guttering clips can break!
