On our leaking tin roof I used gaffer tape to cover the rusted problem areas, then painted over with that grey Crommelin waterproofing compound - absolutely fantastic, and has held solid for over a year now.
Bill, I would have added the liquid bitumen product. Crommelin 1l is about $16. Now bitumen is also compatible with drinking water surfaces. To make the job longer lasting soak it to a support cloth, polyester, fiberglass, cotton etc. This is specially useful for the first roof surface you fixed. It can be painted if the repair surface is visible. The paintbrush can be cleaned in water Keep em coming
Great Video, Bill! April 2024 prices... Rust-oleum clear is $20 and Crommelin Exterior Grade Waterproofing 4l is $80 at Bunnings. Paintable clear storm silicon is $23.
I have to reseal my box gutter at a warehouse, should I clean the previous silicone off before applying the crommelin or just paint it straight on top 2 coats?
Hi Bill, Thank you so much for making this video, your a life saver. Love all your video easy to follow no bs approach. Can you please do a video on toilets constantly running water replacing the inlet valve and outlet seal replacement.
Thank you so much for the video. Can I ask a stupid question? Will it be better if I use multiple layers of multiple products? For example a layer of silicon and two layers of waterproof membrane plus one layer of maybe tape? 😂 and how about those seal paste? Thank you
I have a gutter placed in the housing of a canopy, with lexan plates, not at the end of it but just before it. The gutter leaks from the brackets that support it (a few drops), especially in the point where there is the slope of the canopy near the hole and the end of the gutter, there is a continuous stream of water.
Wat is best so floplast gutter on joint union to allow exspantion I connected a new to old plastic and fitted a new seal but the gutter is lost a bit of profile
Question, do you know which one of the 3 would work best in a place with lower temps during winter. We are talking Minnesota weather so sometimes in the minus. Thank you for the video, very helpful
hey man. I have leaking gutters but on all the joins. I have a colourbond roof and right at the back of the join is very hard to get to and clean properly but tried my best and got it pretty clean and dry. I have tried with roof and gutter silicone with longer silicone nozzles to reach right at the back of the join. Siliconed it but still leaks. Improved it but still leaking ( mainly from the rivets) Very annoying. Just drips. Should I try the spray ? Do I need to clean and take off the silicone I put before applying the spray? I have only done it from the inside of the gutter
Applying silicone is far from ideal. Just remove the old silicone (yes it is hard but essential) and apply a liquid bitumen coat. It will fill the small holes. You may want to apply a DILUTED bitumen coat so that it fills those tiny holes. Then apply a full coat. Better if you also stick a support cloth over it and apply the second coat. It will outlast your guttering. Ensure the surface is spotlessly clean
Thank you for the tips. I think the Aerosol LeakSeal is the go as it can get in and onto inaccessible places. I have used a product which is similar to a thick bitumen tar. It is most useful as it is can be forced into cracked to get a proper seal. In fact, you can make it run better but heating it with a heat gun. Not pretty as it is black as tar (pun) and is lumpy. But it is out of sight anyway, up in the roof gutters.
Application of most aerosol can contents is not as good as the good old disposable brush. This is especially the case on old surfaces. For longevity and flexibility Bitumen should be applied to a reinforcing cloth or fabric as it may crack over the years. Water Based Bitumen Paint is environmentally safe, easy to apply and suitable for use for the collection of drinking water
Hi Bill, I hope you see this😊... you sound like an Aussie 🇦🇺 so I'm just wondering if could please tell me if the 1st one is the same as (same brand) silicon as yours said concrete ? I'm going to Bunnings & there's one for $6 & the concrete is $25... do both do the same thing? Thanks
I thought I'd like the spray but it's just too think and by the time you get a little area done, it's gone. I'd rather use the gallon container and seal it properly
If the job isent done with first coat the product is no good because that means you have to go back up the ladder again if your working on a job that's to much time and effort heavy liquid products are much better
Thank you for the new video, I can’t get a enough of them with every new upload I learn something new.

Do you have a link for a recommended bitumen / rubber product? How do they differ from the Crommelin exterior?
Here in Australia they don't sell that product sadly. Crommelin is all we can get from bunnings
Thanks
Great video! Much needed with all this rain!
Used the spray on a split in the flashing, great result and just need to paint it now. Thanks Bill.

Would be nice if you showed how you applied the silicon or what we call caulk.
Awesome tips! Can you do one around fixing the fall in a gutter? Water pools up in one section of my gutter
That’s was great thank you 🙏🏼
Thanks Bill. I know what I'll be doing tomorrow if it's not raining.

Hey Bill any chance of doing a video how to replace a cracked roof tile?
Love your handy tips
Ty Bill...very helpful and great explanation
You’re welcome 👍
Great full contents
I use lexel. Works better than any other product
Where can I buy Lexel in Australia ?
Best of luck
Thanks very helpful
Cheers for the guide mate
thanks Bill
Thanks for the video, what's the largest crack width which you would seal with the spray? Cheers
You can apply multiple coats for larger cracks however I wouldn’t use it for anything larger then hairline cracks and joints
No idea products like this existed
