- I'm not sure how I feel about what we did. By turning off the quarantine system we have endangered all of humankind. Sure we got treated with the enzyme but it's not like we can make more of it. What happens if we die on the way home or get lost? Humanity could end up getting wiped out by the disease. Though thinking a bit more about it, it's a water borne bacteria. How does it spread outside of water? Assuming a non aquatic species and proper water treatment this should never spread amongst a developed species.
You know what it does not matter, it was a great game and I have no suggestions on how to make it better. Well outside of a longer hot key bar :)
Devs Discription:
Descend into the depths of an alien underwater world filled with wonder and peril. Craft equipment, pilot submarines and out-smart wildlife to explore lush coral reefs, volcanoes, cave systems, and more - all while trying to survive.

PDA: "Sea Dragon Leviathans will probably soon be extinct."
Francis: "Let me help them along."
The best part is that, at that point (unless he _wasn't_ playing blind), he had no idea the Sea _Emperor_ was a separate species *(all the alien research suggested that the Sea Dragon was essential to find the cure for the infection).* And yet he _still_ decided to kill what could the the _only_ Sea Dragon specimen as soon as he saw it, before even checking the alien facility in the same area.
"We are curious as to whether you swim with the current, or fight against it as they did".
"Dude, I'm Francis John. I think we know the answer to that".
"I make the current go in my direction. Preferably using thousands of corpses to divert it"
"Ma'am, I'm but a humble hat maker"
I guess the real question is whether Francis John escaped from the planet, or the planet escaped from Francis John.
It's not so much that the Emperor allowed Francis to be cured, it's more about making sure he doesn't stick around
I love that FJ glanced at silent running once and then ignored it for the rest of the playthrough.
So, mostly the same as the scanner symbol, several of the PDAs, etc.? 😉
Just for fun, aside from sea crown, each of the other 4 samples are pretty much right through those 4 teleport arches you turned on attached to the room with the replenishing ion cubes. They try to make it convenient but give you no real clue about it.
It's funny because I realized this only because I explored all of the caves on the other side of the arches, and when it asked me for stuff I just went back through after I realized they were direct to the locations.
I explored the portals before opening the sea emperor, and when i got the recipe i remembered a couple of plants were directly next to the portals, so i explored the other 2 until i found them
I mean, they did say through the entries that the portals are built to supply the Sea Emporer with necessary resources, so it would make sense the portals would lead to plants needed to hatch the eggs.
They also say that they didn't know how to hatch the eggs, so I think it's really just game design.
I felt bad for him having to look around the map to find them. I made the same mistake, but luckily I had planted every plant I had found at my base, so it only took one trip.
Francis: "Something to kill us. Something to kill us, then eat us."
Character: "I just want to talk."
Mist have been all the leviathan killing FJ did. Random leviathan observing fj killing almost every leviathanon sight.
" fj is comming into my tank?!! Oh hell no "
Two final notes: (1) the music for leaving the planet + the credits is amazing (2) there's a joke at the end of the credits.
Need to go look at the end of the credits for sure!
Can you freeze, stab and kill the joke at the end of the credits? Can you hoard 257 units of the music? No? Not interested, then! 😜
As someone who completed the game 9 or maybe 10 times... I must admit, you Francis managed to play it your own unique style / way, exterminating all the local fauna and picking every last fragment on the seabed!.. =) But one thing is for sure: I enjoyed watching you tremendously, pretty much felt again those exciting "first time blind" emotions. Priceless!.. Hope one day you'll play Below Zero as well. Hats down, God bless!..
It changes the dynamic of the game somewhat with being able to kill the leviathans. I've played through the game twice, but for me they were always hazards to be avoided. I used the slowest engine mode and the silent running to creep by them, and the shield and decoys to escape if needed. It certainly adds to the tension.
I don't think Francis clicked the silent running button even once... :D
@@LonarYolhala I also don't think he noticed the display that shows damage location and the energy-sucking parasites.
I usually just spider prawn around, silent running is just to pass the ghosties guarding the cave entrances and after that just park it in one of the tunnels before the spire, dragons don't go near the entrances so cyclopes is safe
100% agree i do the same...
Back to back Episodes? Best friday ever!
Pre-emptive congratulations on 100k subs.
He's been right on the cusp of 100k subs for like a year IIRC. I remember commenting sometime (at least) a few months ago with similar... Dunno why it's not growing much. :(
I still don't understand how you have only a hundred k
Francis: Uh... are they going to be friendly on birth?
Love how the game instilled fear into him.
He's like that normally, mad lad was ready to square up vs some hatchlings while their skyscraper sized mama is looking at him.
Y'know, as much as I am sad that this series ended (I really think this game was perfectly matched for why we love FJ!), I am doubly so excited for the new Rimworld series!
I'm sad you didn't give out your knife, that sucker has so many kills, and would have gone well with your message.
Still great series, Also:
FJ Total Deaths: 4
Death 1: Mushroom Drop
Death 2: Stingy with fire extinguisher, burned to death.
Death 3: Used fire extinguisher, burned to death again.
Death 4: Poisoned by glowing hanging Jellyfish-thing
So Francis, I think this game really highlighted something in you. This is a game designed to be exploration first and foremost, that heavily incentivizes you to avoid violence. This game wants you to slow down and take in the view, to wait and watch, learn how things are, and then adapt to the environment, this is certainly not the Francis way. Francis John does not adapt to his environment more than he absolutely has to, he bends the environment to his will as soon as possible, hoards stockpiles of what he finds useful, and commits warcrimes for fun on anything that has ever annoyed him.
I'm in no way saying this type of game does not suit you, just the opposite, it suits you well, but the reason is the clash, your relentless nature VS whatever the devs intended. That's my take anyway, I kept coming back to this game in early access, and for a while after, same with the sequel. I certainly enjoyed watching you do a blind run, though next time I would recommend holding off on reading comments for at least a week or 2 to reduce the effect of *inevitable* spoilers. IDK how the sequel would hit you, more polish but not as good IMO, though I am interested in whatever comes down the pipeline next.
This is one of those games you wish you could forget so you could play for the first time again, was really pleasant to watch someone else go through it
No post credits reaction!?!?
I've been WAITING for that bit since this series started!!!
39:33 It's because of the draw distance they have or something. So that you can see far enough underwater, the draw distance is high, but that meant you could see the islands because they're relatively close. So they uploaded the islands to the cloud so you can't see them.
41:39 Play Below Zero next!
Below Zero is just smaller, less polished and generally inferior version of Subnautica. Even leviathans in that one are smaller and dumber.
@@Self-replicating_whatnot you are right. I have played both and the main reason for playing below zero is the lore.
Both are good games but Subnautica is the superior one.
While Below Zero is not as good, it's still more Subnautica. The map's smaller, but there are actually more biomes overall. I think. It's not like I counted, but Below Zero has a bunch of different cave biomes where the original is pretty much the Lost River and the lava region.
There's an after-credits voiceover btw.
Which leads this game perfectly into being a prequel to "Hardspace Shipbreaker" judging by the player characters wallet-status that is...
Also if I recall correctly there's an achievement for diving off the rocket gantry into the water.
It's funny how Francis predicts that the thing being kept alive would be very big and hostile. The original concept for the Sea Emperor was hostile but it also looked a little different. It was a kind of proto Sea Dragon since it had the flipper arms of the Dragon before they tweaked it to the current arms. And of course the Dragon spun off becoming the hostile leviathan in the lava zone.
I think the fact that Sea Emperor is not hostile is very nice, considering all the other big life is danger. It was a nice refresher.
Thanks for letting us come along on the ride. I'd love to see you mackerel some Subnautica: Below Zero videos in the future.
Yay! It's wonderful seeing you have played this, and your very unique playthrough.
Not finding the reinforced dive suit was frankly hilarious, but that's what blind playthroughs get ya.
Your scanner room grid was impressive seeing done.
Loved the playthrough, and loved that you liked the game!.
He's had the reinforced suit for ages but somehow never realized it, can't remember which episode it was but he found it and just never built it
I love how after killing leviathans along the way, Francis is holding back his urge, having conflicted feeling for the sake of the last one
Upload time was basicly spot on. Just as i finished the other vid this got uploaded.
Couldnt be happier.. also i have whiskey
Cheers!)
The blind run worked great for you. I don't think I've seen anyone start with a hallway base, or go that offensive on the Leviathans.
My theory is that since the peepers, bathing the enzyme forty two or whatever and since the vents go everywhere, and that the peeps at the bottom of the food chain somehow that’s keeping the bacteria from killing everything
Not sure he scanned the shiny pepper.
That's right, but that solution was only temporary since if the sea emperor dies and no other are born the enzyme would disappear
Really enjoyed this playthrough. I hope you try Subnautica Below Zero sometime in the future
Seconding this!! Definitely want to see a below zero play through
Normally I wouldn't recommend BZ to anyone but since Francis is largely immune to story or writing I could see him enjoying it.
AFTER the current Rimworld run of course
@@20985229147 I personally loved Below Zero as much as the original Subnautica. I think people disliked Below Zero because they were expecting the same story but with a different map. I didn't have this expectation. I hope a future Subnautica game will follow up on the story of Below Zero.
I hope not. Below Zero is a very bad game even on its own (mostly written by completely different people, who didn't understand what made the original one great, and the few who had worked on the first game left BZ half way through when they saw what a train wreck it was becoming). After the excellent Subnautica, it's just depressing.
Going from Subnautica do Below Zero is like going from The Empire Strikes Back to Jar-Jar Binks.
@@RFC3514 I know most people disliked Below Zero and I was in the beginning in the same group. With time, Below Zero grew on me and I'm hoping they will continue with its storyline in a future game. I started changing my mind when I asked myself what would have I done if I was the one developping the story of Below Zero. You obviously need to crash land in this polar region for some region. Since Riley solve the virus and the quarantine plaform, you need another reason to stay on the planet and explore instead of just exploring to find ressources for your rocket. What would you have done for the story? Asking myself those questions made me realize that Below is disliked because people expected to have the same story as the original Subnautica. The problem is that you can't copy paste a story, just change the world and yet expect people to love the new game. At this point, I think I love Below Zero as much as Subnautica but I know I'm in the minority.
Great playthrough though there were a couple things you didn't get to do which would have been fun. You didn't get to build the alien containment... basically a huge aquarium in which you could have hatched your own tame beasties. You found an egg in the abandoned base that would have hatched into the most adorable creature. Lastly, the stalkers loved to collect metal salvage. You could use the metal salvage to train them to fetch more for you.
These developers put special objects into the game as a thank you to a few UA-cam streamers for helping to save the game. There was a point when Subnautica wasn't going to be finished, but because some big-name streamers decided to play it, the game picked up in sales.
The reinforced diving suit is unlocked by crafting. The reinforced fiber is using benzene the red liquid and fibers mesh together. Once you craft it, it automatically unlocks it for you.
It's been a pleasure, John. I thoroughly enjoyed your playthrough. Your efforts to colonize the entirety of the surface were quite characteristic of you.
This has been one of my favourite playthroughs of yours. Quickly got bored with the cult, but this was both very aesthetically pleasing and your engagement with this game just felt better, too. Thank you for always delivering great content FJ!
Francis, thank you for a wonderful experience! This is such an amazing game already, and watching you play it blind was so incredibly entertaining, possibly more so even than my first time playing it myself. Whether it was playing chicken with a crabsnake in the Leprechaun (RIP), the gaudy colouring of Rainbow's End, or the itching to fight the Sea Emperor as if it was a boss fight, and everything in between, there was never a dull moment. You've given this your unique flair that we have all come to know and love, and makes this little corner of the internet so special.
Looking forward to the next Rimworld series!
I've had this game sitting untouched on my account for years, but has always been meaning to play it. When I saw FJ starting a playthrough I scrambled and started my own blind playthrough and avoided all his SN-videos while I did.
I took my time and finished the game while he was about halfway through and have followed his playthrough since. It's been a very different (but very entertaining) experience.
Looking forward to more Anomaly now.
Same
To the dude named "does anyone actually read the names" from the credits, yes I read the names every time because Francis deserves all the watchtime on his videos!
Oh no. Two full length videos in one day. How will we ever deal with that. Don't do that to often or we will get spoiled.
Glad to see you enjoyed the Subnautica Francis (not bad for a decade old game right? hope you enjoyed the soundtrack to)
Couple of fun facts from the pre early access days:
The game was developed to support terrain with full deformation, until the Dev's run into several hiccups which started to break the game severely, with the terrain occasioanlly becoming semi solid so players could phase through the world, and you could literately build your way down to the containment facility all the way from water level, so they ripped out that feature entirely.
Another amusing fact was during the development phase for the cavern of the containment facility, they cheesed us testers a couple of times with making the Leviathan being able to 1 shot the player/cyclops (which was a lot more aggressive in pursuing the player) this was added in after there was a lot of testers whining on the Dev forums about the slow development team (I think they went on a brief hiatus/seasonal holiday) funny enough the game required a save wipe to undo the trolling the Dev's had done, and soon after the containment facility was accessible to enter, the Dev's "accidentally" broke the game again forcing all of the testers to wipe there saves again, as the blueprint for the blue tablet wasn't made available them. The Dev's soon apologized for there tomfoolery after that and said they won't be trolling us testers any further.
It was really fun playing/testing through Subnautica and actually in some small way being a part of the games shape as it was being created, via the loads of feedback that was required, seeing the planning being debated over of what would stay in the game or be left out over the forum's which made it seem like us testers were actually a part of the team.
It was a very actively friendly and mostly positive experience to be apart of, for anyone keen on games and is curious about there development I highly recommend being on board as a QA/tester team, it's a very rewarding experience.
Thanks for the vid's Francis
Two-fer man this made my day thank you francis 🎉🎉🎉
Wow, you're really treating us well today!
Blind playthrough was (not efficient) but 10x more enjoyable.
And there are minor, fun details like:
-hatching the strange egg on the degasi base, it's basically a pet.
-coffee/vending machine, which gives free food but is super cheap (2 water/food respectively...?)
Definitely one of the best games ever created
So glad Francis got to play subnautica, it really is a great experience
34:35 Fun note, each of the 4 central portals goes to a place that has one of the plants you are needing. The aliens did know which plants were needed
I think the missing guard rail is because the company your character works for, expects that if their employees can survive a hostile environment long enough to build a rocket to escape, that they would be smart enough to hold onto the other guard rails and not fall off. Aaaand if they do.... Well that wasn't the best employee they had so no big loss.
I think the whole point of you releasing the Sea Emperor Leviathan Hatchlings was that they would grow and produce Enzyme 42 to begin the process of curing the planet.
Thats about the most unique way I've seen the deep caverns conquored XD
Also kinda sad the music was off during the finale, its quite the epic conclusion.
wierdly he seems to turn off music for most games he plays, sad cuz hes missing out it adds so much
That was quite a journey, thank you for taking us along Francis!
Well played Francis. Below Zero is a fun ride and worth playing, but I still prefer the original.
Hey Francis, I wanna say thank you for what you do; and especially for doing a subnautica playthrough. I have been going through a pretty big rough patch and watching you place this was amazing and helped a lot more than i would have thought possible. Again, thank you.
What a series. Loved every moment of it. Much more killing than my playthroughs to say the least :D.
Fun fact as I'm sure you'll play the second game Below Zero at some point as well, the snowy area you turn your head to look at @ 46:22 is where it takes place.
I’m so pleased that you enjoyed this game as much as i did. When I completed the game, I turned around and replayed it immediately.
Enjoyed every minute of this series ;] Below Zero in the future surely ^^
Thank you, I have had this game in my catalog for 6 years and never finished now I am going to finish it cause I love the graphic design. Its so pretty.
So the subnautica collection goes to 70% off just after Francis finishes his series. Someone's paying attention.
I'm surprised you never tried to stab or scan little emperor leviathan hatchlings.
What a joy to watch. Thanks for sharing your experience with us all!
two FJ videos in one day! have to watch the first one before this one, but I'm super excited.
This game is incredible for what it is. Hard to think of it as an indie game, but there it is.
"Standard Leprechaun Color Scheme" haha
I guess Lex Luthor is a leprechaun.
Wonderful playthrough, I love that even you also started getting afraid there towards the end x)
FYI, all 4 portals in the containment facility lead directly to biomes that have the seeds you need. They are usually just outside the doorway of the cave once you go through the portal.
Thanks Francis. You're an entertaining fellow. Just watched the entire series. We have love of this game and Rimworld in common. Will be watching for more. Here's to the exploration and the journey!
I really enjoyed this playthrough which was so very different from my first run through the game. Subnautica is one of those games that I wish I could erase from my memory and play blind all over again. I absolutely love the way the game unfolds from just an underwater survival game into an entire story. So glad you played blind and your lack of fear of leviathans is both alarming and inspiring, lol.
Oh no! You missed the end credits scene! or not idk but you didn't show it! it's really funny!
Ah the post credit scene of having to pay hundreds of billions of credits to enter back into the airspace...
Loved playing this one alongside you. I saw you released this and went and launched my rocket too! See you in anomaly my friend.
Wonderful series, thank you for sticking with the blind playthrough...it was a blast to watch someone just enjoy their time swimming around trying to maximize total efficiency XD
Thoroughly enjoyed this run
Thank you
Awesome. Now do it again without murdering everything :)
Those portals you found and put the ion cubes in for, just coincidentally lead to the locations you needed to go for the hatching enzymes.
Ohhh it's a good Friday indeed when you get two spicy new FJ videos!
This was a brilliant series. It was so much fun watching you discover this game and enjoy it. And I am super excited for all the Anomalies to come!
What a madman...
Never change, sir.
*Neptune enters the wormhole*
My brain: "🎵🎶 Waaaaaaitin'. Waitin' for the sun"
Amazing!! Brings back so many memories.
The Warpers (also known as the Self-warping Quarantine Enforcer Unit) are quite prolific around the Quarantine Enforcement Platform, which the portal from the Sea Emperor Leviathan's paddock leads to. I was hoping to see you encounter one of them after the enzyme cured you only to find they're no longer interested in you. The Warpers terrified me and that was such a relief when it occurred to me!
* also known as Fades, by people who played Unknown Worlds' previous game. 😉
I love Subnautica. Thanks for playing it!
FJ thank you for such a in depth playthrough. i've really enjoyed every video you put out. now on to rim world!!!
I've been watching you so much that UA-cam recommended a mix of your videos :-)
Try going up to a warper after you've been cured.
i loved this playthrough man youre the goat
*makes underwater sounds
I am super impressed on how many preds you killed.
Man, I was hoping for some more subnautica from you today, and you bless us with 2 hours of content :D
PS. You can check hull damage on the big ship diagram to your left when you're facing the driver's seat, no need to go into the other menu.
Wonderful series, great stuff! It was so unnerving watching somone with no fear of the leviathans play this game, Im always quaking in my boots lol.
Anyone else get the feeling that the Sea Emperor's voice was just a placeholder that never got updated before shipping?
Really enjoyed the series. Imo you need to spend an hour or two building a decent base, with a 2 storey fish tank and hatch a cuddlefish egg!
Everyone gets only 1.5 playthroughs of Subnautica in their life. The first time if they are lucky and don't wiki, and the second time when they get to witness another's journey. Thats it. You'll never really play Subnautica again and have that experience! Congratulations.
100K right around the corner!!
Glad you enjoyed subnautica, it is one of my favs.
I've enjoyed every episode!
Hey @FrancisJohnYT, thanks a lot for the great series, it was a blast. Hope you are also going to try Subnautica Below Zero soon, it will be fun :)
Thank you so much for your entertaining content. I'm glad you played blind. Now for below zero!
As someone that thoroughly geeked out on this game, it was very enjoyable to watch you do the same. Well played sir and gg. You inspired me to fire it up again which I have been liking very much so far. Thanks for sharing your adventure with us.
Very Enjoyable playthrough!
25:24 “It took a little time” damn it release the Real-Time Ingredient Search cut!!
Thank you for playing. This was a great series.
YAY! 2nd episode!
After watching edit: Great series, just wish FJ had built the Markiplier doll and hatched a Cuddlefish, I feel that they are great additions to the game, and I mean, if you haven't heard Markiplier's scream of absolute fear, have you really experienced Subnautica? lol
both markiplier's and jackscepticeye's playthroughs have a special place in my heart, and i love that the devs put their dolls in-game
34:32 - Imagine that, *ghost* weeds near the hatching ground of the *ghost* leviathan babies. (GLaDOS voice) That you killed, you monster. 😜
Below Zero waiting room
Two francis uploads in one day? You spoil us so much :D
If only there were a bunch of portals that could get you close to the locations you can find the hatching enzyme ingredients... 😉
Someone’s name at the end being “does anyone actually read the names?” Made me laugh cause I’m actively trying to find mine but idk if they’re in chronological order or something else mind boggling FJ has managed to create filter wise
Fun stuff great videos! :D
