  • Apologies I have some audio dropping out in this video, I thought I had isolated the issue but it still happens occasionally. Will be working to eradicate it from next video, apologies again.
I'm not saying the scanner rooms were a bad idea, but it turns out just driving about the place is pretty fast at finding the necessary blueprints. Map is only about 3.5 * 3.5 Km.
    Devs Discription:
Descend into the depths of an alien underwater world filled with wonder and peril. Craft equipment, pilot submarines and out-smart wildlife to explore lush coral reefs, volcanoes, cave systems, and more - all while trying to survive.

    Nice gameplay! Two things:
    1. you can change the view in the cyclops by clicking on the camera and scrolling through the cameras, the different views really help out.
    2. The degassi base had 3 levels, you only explored the first level in the hurry. There is a really nice surprise in one of the levels, and a few more pda’s, if you wanna go back for it. Not critical for the game progression. It looks very ordinary but it is a special thing. A fun Easter ‘Egg’ of sorts. 😉

I'd like to see him expand it to where he fills in the gaps

    • @RFC3514
      @RFC3514 2 місяці тому +12

Except it's not really "optimised"; I don't think he got anything useful from the scanner rooms (though he did discover some useful stuff while _traveling_ to those locations), and just keeps hoarding titanium that he'll never need. The "optimal" way to play Subnautica for the first time is to get the resources you need _when you actually need them,_ and follow the story / radio messages (which will always take you close to the blueprints / fragments you'll need for the next section).
Also, there are two whole "layers" of caves _below_ the surface, one of which he sort of discovered and then ignored so he could build more scanner rooms in less interesting areas, which he has already explored anyway.
He's trying to "game the system" without quite understanding the system (which doesn't _need_ to be gamed - the game will nearly always give you what you need when you need it). This isn't Rimworld, where maps are procedurally generated and resources spawn randomly and are lost whenever you rebuild something. Everything in Subnautica is hand-placed and hand-crafted. The game will show and give players what they need when they need it, you just need to pay attention to "story" locations. Exploration is fine (and encouraged). Hoarding is totally unnecessary and "checklisting" is detrimental to the whole experience.
On the plus side, building all those scanner rooms does mean he'll probably find most of the things he missed when they were right in front of his face and he was in a rush to leave so he could go hoard more titanium. 😁

    • @KainYusanagi
      @KainYusanagi 2 місяці тому +1

@@peterlyaskovsky1473 Actually, bulbo is superior. Melons grow faster, are 1x1 in the growbed (so 16 plants) and give more per fruit, sure, but you need to slash 4 of them to get a growbed's worth of replanting (annoying to do separately from harvesting food) and you only get 1 edible fruit per for a total of 12 samples, while bulbo gives 10 samples per tree via slashing, each sample being edible, and as a 2x2 a growbed gives you 4 plants, total 40 samples. Overall, in the same time period, bulbos actually give the same food (288) and more water than melons do (360 vs 336, or 7.14%, specifically). Divide values by 4 to use the small growpots, ofc, but it's the same ratios.
Furthermore, if you use a bioreactor, bulbo samples give max return of 420 energy, same as a full melon (melon seeds only give 70 per, so slashing a melon gives you 280 energy, actively worse though necessary for replanting obviously), making it way more efficient that way as well.

The only major recipe that you appear to be currently missing is the nuclear reactor. Other than that you are almost set to go and you're about to enter into the mid game. I would highly suggest getting use to using your prawn suit more often than the seamoth. The seamoth is great for fast travel to and from one place to another, but the prawn suite is more diverse in what it can do.
As for the prawn suit craft the upgrades that you can such as for more inventory space, and perhaps the jet propulsion pack if you can. Also when you go out it is advisable to take at least 1 extra set of fully charged power cells with you at all times, perhaps even two sets with the prawn suite. You don't have to angle the Cyclops downwards to swim down (or upwards for up for that matter) - pressing "C" will get you to dive and "Space" will make you go up. Might be easier to navigate like that, it was for me anyway.

If the camera drones bother you just pick them up and either store them or throw them away in the trash can. Also, one thing you may want not to do without... There is a reinforced dive suit. It's pda was in one of the wrecks were you found the moonpool fragments that you didn't finish exploring. It makes you less squishy and is helps in hot areas. You also only explored 1/3rd of the Degasi habitat at 500m. There is a special tablet there. I think there is a cutefish egg there. Everyone likes the cutefish.
And just a fyi, there are 4 entrances to the underground 'lost river.' One is under the Degasi base you just found. There is another just south of Life Pod 2. You found the one in the bloodkelp area. The last one is in the bulb forest NW of the Aurora. The largest entrance is the bulb forest. But all are possible with a cyclops. Just some are more possible than others.

what a pure Subnautica episode. You are firmly through midgame and approaching the endgame run, don't worry the map gets smaller from here so it should be pretty straight forward.
My only recommendation is to stock the cyclops with Enameled glass (stalker teeth), lithium as well as titanium: pressure on the hull increases with depth. also ditch the moth for the prawn from here on, it cant handle the depth.
Edit: Oh and there is more than one camera on the Cyclops. when you clicked into the camera you saw the Keel view; I want to say there are at least 4 others all of which have a better FOV than the cockpit. The keel is probably the most useful as it puts you eye level with the bottom of the ship meaning you can navigate along the bottom much easier.

Tips (no spoilers) take them or leave them :)
    - Be bold! Since you have a stasis rifle, you're pretty hard to kill. TBH, you're pretty hard to kill in general even without it if you have a medkit or two. Food, water, O2 and environmentals are the real killers in this game. Things you drop from your body can be picked up at your death location if it happens.
    - Keep the lights on. Unless you have a Leviathan right by you, you want to enjoy the game experience and be sure not to miss out on things
    - Build up your Cyclops. Any interior modules you have in your base (except room specific ones) can be built. Throw in a fabricator, radio, modification station, etc. The only modifications you can't craft are moonpool upgrades BUT you can throw one of those on a scanner room if you're out in the wild, craft the modification, then deconstruct the moonpool.
    - The biggest loss in this game is a vehicle getting destroyed as everything on it is destroyed. I'm fairly certain most non-leviathan enemy's will ignore your seamoth parked with it's lights off somewhere safe as long as you haven't been in it recently. ie I don't think they actively seek out your vehicles when you're no around.
    - The charge fins are actually strong enough to charge the seaglide. You can actually just swap low batteries from other tools into your seaglide and use it as a battery charger.
    - Get used to carrying your PRAWN around in the cyclops instead of your seaglide. As a resource-hoarder, you can get a ridiculous amount from large nodes and using the Cyclops with the cameras easily allows you to spot them.
Maybe spoiler-ish, kind of, but not really?
    - You figured it out when you mentioned that you were getting the same tech from the mushroom forest: each biome type has the same consistent tech and resources scattered throughout it. This is not true of the wrecks in a biome: they each have their own tech with enough items to obtain that tech. Some databoxes do have a double, but not all - that's the true treasure.
Love your vids - good luck and enjoy the game :)

Cyclops can be a pain to drive, especially in tight quarters, which are pretty much anything other than open water. I find driving in camera view to be the best way to do it, usually whichever is closer to a wall. Also, the cameras do have their own lights.

You mentioned speedruns being fast because they know where all the tech is, and you'll be either saddened or pleased to know that they get about none of it. You know about the base exploit, where bases will act as a save point even if they have no O2, and that's the main way the speedruns work; you just dive deeper and make a base right before you drown to die in, deconstruct it, then go deeper.

So Salvner is a very good Subnautica speedrunner. One of the best parts of his runs is he speaks a script describing what he's doing and why throughout the run. Also he did a speedrun of killing every leviathan in the game, and found that the placement of the gas pods was very important. They spread out when you dump a bunch so he only ever used 5 at a time, and swam into the middle of the Reaper hitbox to get to the best drop location. It takes practice, but you can fill the damage gap by putting gaps in the Reaper with your knife.

Fun fact about the Reapers: the line about them circling to attack from behind isn't just fluff. That's why they seem a little shy to attack when you charge them sometimes, but if you float around near one and aren't paying enough attention, they really can sneak up on people... I've seen them jump scare youtubers and streamers quite a bit because of that... 😜

A cheap-ish way to recharge the cyclops when exploring is to give the seamoth a solar charge module. Give it a drained power cell at the start of the day and as long as you're not too deep it'll start recharging. Not a good way to do it, but it can work for emergencies.

Whoever thought of using the gas pods as a weapon is a bleeping genius, I've always just gone with the "stab it till it dies" approach...while satisfying it takes too long.
Also FJ, the crabsquids in the cave are very stabbable. The teleporter guys just need a gentle stab in butt to make them go away for a while, haven't been able to kill them yet but they're more of a nuisance than a threat.
That habitat in the cave with crabsquids has a few floors you missed.

With the Prawn suit, if you are mining resources especially above 900 meters depth. Also remember in the purple mushroom caves there are large deposits of magnetite for larger thermal power farms.

Yay! Looking forward to the big cyclops trip next video.
Just like other people said, you already have the engine efficiency module. With that module and a couple of spare power cells you can drive cyclops for a long, long time.
And just like other people said, you can use external cameras while driving which makes it a lot easier to navigate tight spots.
Cyclops doesn't get damaged the same way seamoth does. Regular fish, including sharks and spiders and all that don't do anything to it. It can only get damaged by leviathans and if you bump it into a wall hard enough. There is a damage report map on one of the walls in the cockpit.
There used to be a funny bug where if you build a power cell charger inside cyclops it charges power cells faster than they drain from it, but I think it got fixed at some point.
I don't think the shield module is very helpful, but you do want to have decoy launcher loaded with decoy rockets. And fire suppression module is useful in case something does bump you around a bit.

What I did for mass storage of raw materials is make 2 sets of 4 large rooms (only one set needed) side by side, 16 plasteel ingots not counting connections, ladders etc. In one set I make the inside section dividers aligned in 4 rows and place large storages along them. Top floor is for titanium/rare miscellaneous with processor, battery and power cell chargers on the wall next to my moonpool side (3 power cell chargers per full set of cyclops cells). 2nd floor is for common starter materials plus - quartz, copper, silver, gold and magnetite, 3rd for uraninite, lead, lithium, ruby and diamond, bottom layer for nickel, kyanite and more complex processed goods like advanced wiring kits. 2nd set of large rooms, floor 1 and 2 have 2 large fish tanks for biofuel and salted fish, 2nd floor has seeds and egg, 3rd floor has 4 water purifiers and all the food crops and a bioreactor, bottom has storage for salt, water, salted fish, medkits and plant samples. Build reinforced walls in the inner sections facing each other and windows facing out and window connections out, and all on foundation platforms for more support and space for external grow beds and lights (moonpools block placing foundations below, but they can be built above foundations).
