This dad is not stepping up to help with the kids. He needs to help mom when the kids are being so defiant. It should be team work ALL of the time. He works from home..he is there..he should help more than he is.
I think it would also help if he had designated time to just work so then when he is home he is actually helpful. I guess he does need to work but he appears to work from 7am- 11pm which is unacceptable for him and his family
It is the old fashion way of how household divide duties: the father is bread-winner and can be exempted from all housework including raising children, while the mother is expected to do all housework and it is clearly not working in today's society because the old-time supporters (aka relatives) are no longer live next doors.
I think if dad intervened to help mom, he would undermine her authority even more. Proving to the kids that their mom can't control them by herself

When I was in elementary school, my dad and our two dogs would walk up to the school to pick me up. On the walk home, he’d carry my backpack and I’d have the leash of the smaller dog. We’d chat about our days, what I had for homework, and how I could help with dinner. Those walks were always fun and an amazing bonding experience. I was flabbergasted this mom didn’t have the same with her kids.

My parents would've smacked me and my brothers to the end of time if we acted like those kids.
He doesn't step in because you never switch off who is doing punishment. It's something Jo often teaches. If the mother gives the warning, the mother follows through on punishment. You can't have the mother give the warning then the father do the punishment because it undermines the mother. Just like the father shouldn't ever tell them to not hit their mother.. she needs to do it since she's the one being hit. If the father does it, the mother loses power meaning they'll only behave when dad's around.
Also, the reason you don't see him in the videos is because he didn't have any problems. The entire show you only see the problem adults and kids really.
