I like how Jo validated Melissa's feelings. I feel so bad, for that young lady. I hope she has been able to emotionally heal, from all that
Same
Thats one thing I love about Jojo, she validates teenagers feelings and struggles
IP
Me too
Help me with my mom when Don't talk we all day
aww when the mom said "don't make fun of me" because they were mocking how she talks and stuff, and it was so sad.
I Nearly Cried 😖😣
I was so sad i was just so mad I would,ve bust them butts that's how dad gets me to listen
Yeah i was so upset!
IKR THOSE kids are mean:(
@@phoenixxam5812 uh
Man I really feel for Melissa. You can tell that she's been holding in all those cry's for many years and it was so healing for her to let it out and talk to her parents
*tears not "crys"
@@eddiethehead4791 😂😂 I find it hilarious that it took 7 months for someone to correct me. Idk, though. I kinda think my comment was my original intent. She didn't cry for many years, so it was many cry's that she needed to have that didn't. 🤷♀️
Yeah
Same
Poor Melissa
I enjoyed Jo’s non verbal communication with mom, and how she comforted her even when she couldn’t speak or understand her
Sometimes just knowing that someone is there for you is comforting enough.
I almost cried that was soo sweet of jo the mom desperately needed that hug and comfort😢
OH YES!
YES LA!
I think we’re forgetting about the people that translated ASL to English and English to ASL. If it weren’t for them, this wouldn’t have been possible.
Dunkle very good point I appreciate the people that take the time to do stuff like this.
So you mean the interpretors they hired? They were paid to do this. While you are right it wouldn't have been possible without them, that'd also be like saying it wouldn't be possible to watch this without the producer, the film crew, Jo, the cameras, the creators of the cameras, etc.
its called an interpreter
Because there deaf that is why it's sad to see
@@millietaylor3798 The interpreters aren't deaf, lmao. That's the entire point. They need to be able to hear spoken language and translate that to ASL, and then back again.
Sitting here crying for Melissa because I’m 18 struggling through the same never related so much to someone feeling like ur raising all your younger siblings your whole life is draining
Things will go better girl!!! Be strong❤️
I've done to with my little brother who has autism I raised him till finally my parents smarten up when he was six
ItsJustEliya Same expect they are aunts kids everytime they come mine aunt send them in my room to babysit them and when i dont want to my aunt say that im hating them just because i dont want to be with them,Im 19 and strugling because of her and her kids i cant get free time
It's very draining
Kayllen Starships Tell her to woman up and take responsibility for her kids.
You would think that deaf parents would teach their children ASL if their children can hear. Hell, even if the kids were deaf.
I have 2 aunts that are deaf but I'm teaching myself sign language and when my baby cousin gets older I'll teach her
It says your comment was an hour ago when the video was uploaded 30 mins aho
@@freenoodles3097 I'm uncertain as to why that would be.
Lord Inquisitor Sec yea me too I just blame yt lol
@@freenoodles3097 Probably drunk.
It really speaks volumes that Jo runs after Melissa before anyone else, even before her own parents.
It’s depressing
Every time Jo hugs and comforts the moms when they’re getting worked up it makes me tear up 😭
McKenna Bowers I swear when the mother went off to cry at 11:49 it had me bawling 😭
I cry everytime 😂😭

She should be the one whose going on spring break. The stepdad wants her to do even more.
Yeah that totally wasn’t the right time for them to leave like that.
At the end when Melissa called Kip "Dad", I got teary eyed.
This family was very sweet. The big problem was communication really, that's it.
And discipline with the younger ones
@@Kinich-f2p yh same, the kids have no disapline
I now know right
You are so lucky
Supernanny
It makes me sad to see people taking advantage of people with disabilities ESPECIALLY your parents
Oh so the kid doesn’t want to be good tho ouch
Those kids were raised to not care. Teach them to speak asl
I think the big issue here was lack of communication. Nobody understood one another, so no one knew what was going on.
Turns out 'use your big words like adults' is pretty universal~
Agreed!!!!
salem dorie I kind of agree with you but the kids KNEW sign language but the kids wouldn’t listen.
salem dorie I agree
Literally and metaphorically.
Who else cried when Melissa said she wanted her mom?
Melissa is being robbed of her adolescence because she has the responsibility of raising her sisters.
Me! Most teenagers don't want their parents around, but this young woman was crying out for love and support! That speaks volumes!
I cry 😢😢😢😢
I cry every episode! Lol 😂
@@PurplePinkRed that is true but why did she curse them though and she was telling her mom to shut up.
Im dutch, and i laughed at the fathers name. It means chicken in dutch😂

I thought that Deaf parents taught ASL to their kids as their first language from birth, didn't these parents do that??!!! Cause I don't understand!
Style_Icon normally that’s what happens
Nope they just boinked like bunnies 🙄
Most actually don't
Well the kid might not pay attention
i have deaf parents and i was taught asl and said my first asl word before my first english word.
It's so refreshing to see that their deafness was not used as an excuse for their parenting. I love the focus on open communication through an accessible language and showing that Deaf people make good parents as well. Additionally, it gave insight into the lives of many CODAs who become more like an interpreter for their parents rather than their child. Really tastefully done and very informative.
Jo's accent is SOOOO warming! I rewatch all the episodes over and over again!
Imagine how good Supernanny's children would be-
They'd probs be *a n g e l s*
Daruton Productions Probably Oh you bet they are She ain’t dealing with none of that crap XD
Yasssss they would be perfect Angels
She’s 48 and doesn’t have kids of her own
@@jodiemcmahon9818 but imagine if she did, and how well they'd behave
If the parents are deaf and Kip can’t talk, and Dorothy talks in faint mumbles, does that mean that Melissa taught the girls to talk?
School
School, TV, etc, but yes, other family members probably also taught them.
You don't actually need to really teach your kids to talk. They'll more then likely pick up on just about everything they need. Especially with things like TV, preschool, and so on. I'm sure other family members have also helped.
Sen. T Most likely they were born with speaking manners.
Kip can talk and does talk.
it made me SO happy to see Kip teaching the three girls sign language. and to see Kip and Melissa getting along.
These kids talk.....why didnt they start asl while they were growing cause I know babies who can sign..its about teaching not being dependent on others
Lack of discipline.
We taught kids sign at my daycare center
I learned from baby einstien videos and my parents (yes they hear I was just to little to talk) they always knew exactly what I wanted because I knew sign language up until I could actually start talking. It is possible.
Pizza and jets better cus it has to be
My brother knows some asl he was taught when he was younger
Jo says, "Yes you are hearing disabled. No, you can't use that as an excuse."
Anybody else feel nostalgic watching these just because of the early 2000s teen fashion? I had the same green sweater 😂
And the make up!!
Yup I do as well I miss these times so simple
Aw Jo really helped the family, even with the barrier of sign language/interpreter:) They seemed so happy at the end and it was pretty smart how she introduced sign language with those games:0
That poor girl has to take care of 3 kids at the age of 18😰She should be out partying with friends, not cooking dinner!
I mean I guess
I had to watch the whole house at 5 years old 😂🤣
YY Lau lmao yeah right. and even if that were the case, just because people do it doesn’t mean it’s right.
Yeah. I’m fortunate that I have hearing parents and don’t have three siblings, I’m happy enough with my younger sister.
Ik how the oldest feels. I wasn't allowed to go out much either at that age. High school to college I ended up always being home when I wasn't in school.
This is how many hugs Melissa needs

sorry whoops typed that wrong there ya go its good now!
Best thing about deaf parents is they don't have to hear whining
The step dad kinda frustrated me tbh. He made it seem like Melissa owed him all of this and clearly kept Melissa from spending quality time with her mom.
Until he learned
Look at how unsafe those swings are they where literally coming off the ground😯
Mine did that with two much force but its not gonna fall unless theres alot of force or weight applied. It's fine. Its going to bounce unless placed underground.
With too much*
Exactly
Oh j was thinkin the same thing like ummmmmwhy they not doin nothin bout that swing
We lived, chill
When Melissa told her step dad that she loves him my heart melted that was cute
When Melissa said because I love you to kip I literally bawled my eyes out
I think this is my favorite episode so far 🥰💕 Just the way that Jo came in and helped bridge the communication barriers for the kids, and helped rebuild things between Melissa and her parents. And everyone did the work they needed to do! Just beautiful 💕✨
so good.
"Bedtime in this family is incredibly late" she says as I am watching this at 12 in the morning 😂 I love supernanny!
I love Melissa!!! She is soooooo nice to her mom, dad and sister's. She took care of her sisters calmly.
Yea I agreee
Ikr
I feel so bad for Melissa. It isn’t her job to take care of the children, and even though the parents are deaf it doesn’t give them an excuse to not try harder. They do try, they just need to be firmer with the children.
They are just deaf ! They are able bodied and can do everything! I think they used Melissa as their personal slave 😡
Who else cried when Melissa told kip he can’t give up because she loves him
This one actually made me emotional. It was so beautiful seeing this family begin the healing process, especially while the girls were still so young
When Melissa said “Because I love you” I lost it and cried 😭
I love that Jo just gives people hugs when they are sad and they feel better after wards
Jo: " Nine o'clock I very late"
Me: I-
Is it weird that I now more Japanese sine language than American I’m half American and no one in my family is deaf
So does hat mean 3am is late too-
I wanna adopt kids and homeschool them and I'd let them go to bed when they get tired.
But they didn’t teach each other the sign language like the oldest is the most respectful and realizes how bad and how the three little ones take advantage
Who else actually cried during this episode?!
Sidney Taylor I’m laying in bed trying not to.
😭
Me
almost
Sidney Taylor I came so close😭
Awww kipps face when she told him she lived him, so beautiful, hes wanted to hear that forever
Quick question: The interpreters occasionally say things like "uh" and "um," are there signs for that?
Theres ways to say uh and um in sign language, spelling it out or letting your hands go slack but the interpreter was probably just thinking of the translation
I’m not fluent at all, but to my knowledge “Uh” ‘s and “um” ‘s are usually just facial expressions in asl - like furrowed or raised eyebrows to show contemplation, confusion, and so on. I’ve never seen someone spell them out in asl unless they were directly quoting something that was written down or something.
Trainfan1055 what do you mean? Can you give an example?
Interpret sometimes use expression, spell it out or it just ignore them if the deaf person want to. (I know those bc I am deaf)
Of all the fathers on this show, the deaf one listened the best.
And moms
Lol, no he didnt. But the comment still sounds cool
It’s almost like he can’t talk over the woman
Melissa is not going to be there forever. She`s 18 and probably be going off to college or move out on her own
She's married now
She is 30 or 31 years old now! This show was filmed back in 2008! Some people commented and found her on Facebook and she is married now!
21:06 Those scars on her arm make me really sad 😭. This girl is too young to have all those responsabilities she need to move out to live HER life 🙏🏻
Are they self harm?
They could be from burning on the stove
I don’t think that those are scars I think those are just the marks you get when your arm is resting somewhere for too long
Or it’s the shadow of the earring hoop
It’s so interesting going on Facebook to look up these past families. Some of the children are in their 20s now! Some look like they turned out well adjusted adults who were just brats as kids.
what's their Facebook
Facebook???
I sometimes look on Instagram to find people

I watched this episode when it premiered on ABC here back in the late 2000s, and I was shocked by how things could get so bad between abled children and disabled parents. I hope everyone’s fine, now, though. Great episode.
Kip seems emotionally detached.
They started to cut onions when the daughter told Kip she loved him.
This reminds me of another show I saw that took place in the UK where both parents were blind and had like ten kids and the two oldest had to do everything . At least these two seem to care about learning how to be better parents.
Sam Marrier now I wanna watch that
I know exactly what show you're talking about, I feel soo bad for those kids
What show was that because it seems interesting
I remember that one. I think there was another one just like that where there were 10 kids and the two oldest took care of the kids, If I remember correctly, didn't the mother want two more!?
Id b interested n watching that
That interpreter is really good! She speaks just like they are the person saying it. And its sad that those 2 girls tease their deaf parents. They should have empathy and want to be helpful
Jennifer: *It's easy to get away, with.. with stuff because my mum and dad are deaf.*
Oh you don't know what it feels like being deaf.
If they had actually bothered to teach their kids sign language, it would have solved so many problems. If my kid was deaf, I’d automatically teach myself and vice versa. Communication between parents and their children are so important.
This episode was so stressful. Lol my anxiety was so high watching this
I died when that girl said “u not da boss”😂
Same lmaooooo
This was peobably the most peaceful resolve I've ever watched especially the bedtime. Probably because no one had to really scream their lungs out since their parents wouldn't hear
These parents were so responsive to Jo and their eldest daughter, amazing!!!!
Man i love the things jojo is doing for these familes. She's such an amazing woman ❤❤
The oldest girl, melissa, I feel bad for her it's good she told jo how she felt
When Jo hugged Dorothy, that really made me smile.
this must be the best i’ve seen parents working together on this show, they really wanted that change.
Ikr
Melissa is the most person that needs love she takes care alot
Jo is so nice how she always includes everyone's feelings including young ones and teenagers
It was very touching how Jo helped the family and how the family was on board with the the new solutions. Jo you are wonderful. I am learning so much from your teachings!!!! Thank you from the bottom of my heart ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
When Melissa said: let's forget about the past and start new.
I f-ing cried
To be fair, if someone put green beans on my plate I’d react the same way.
Green beans are good tho 😢
You need to calm down 😂.
I grew up knowing I have eat what's on my plate or else... It's like super disrespectful in my culture to not eat what's on the plate knowing there's starving children out there. But everyone grows up differently.
Same
Shut up
I feel really bad for Melissa, I've been in the same boat as she was , being the oldest child and having to be the "parent" because the real parents were incapable of it.
I feel like an older sister to my dad's baby sister because she has issues.
Not incapable, unwilling. These parents were perfectly capable of parenting and teaching their children, they chose not to because it was easier to parentify their oldest daughter. Big difference.
This episode was really heart warming
Why wouldn't the parents teach their children sign language?!?!!?!
Yay one of my favourite episodes!!!!!! It good because i am deaf
God bless you. I know American Sign Language
Awh, praying for you🥺
Gracie R no reason for you need to pray for someone who are deaf. That really rude. Plus they do not need your pray or your pity period. They are perfect fine who they are period. Nothing wrong with people who are deaf. Geez...
BlueMoon Nighty theyre just showing compassion, calm down.
Me and my son know ASL. Trying to teach hubby
I had to deal that too except my siblings are one with disabilities while the parent does not. So I can understand where the oldest is coming from
You deserve to have your own time to be their child without being their help.
I am actually taking an ASL class in school.
I wish my high school taught ASL, now I try to learn it by myself and its very hard because I wasn’t able to get the class for college

Rodian_SkyPyratz Me too!! I’m in advanced asl, since i had already known most asl before skool tho. Love that classss!! My teacher is actually half death.
I'm deaf, born to hearing parents and I used to be just like this 😂😅 Luckily, that has long changed but I still cringe when I look back on those moments 😬
Mhm
Well this might be bad but I’m kind of glad the parents can’t hear all of that screaming and shouting
I’m impressed that the mom can speak well! And the teen daughter is amazing how she can interpret this well!

Jo shocked that the girls are going to bed as late as 9pm
Whilst I’m up at nearly 3am watching this 😬
I feel so unbelievably bad for Melissa. I understand that her mother and stepdad are deaf but that doesn’t give them the right to make Melissa the children’s hearing mother so they can go out and exclude Melissa from their activities.
you're right.
Hello Jo. I am one of your biggest fans. I watch your show every day(No joke)! You are really good at what you do. Can we just applaud to the fact that Nanny sacrifices so much just to help these people?
Lovely parents. Overwhelmed and stuck in their patterns, but more then obvious lovely parents
The sacrifice of children who have had to step up and raise their siblings is something that doesn’t get enough attention. And if you’ve had to do this thank you for the sake of your siblings for your sacrifice

It’s a quibble but the camera keeps cutting the parents’ signing off mid-sentence because they’ve finished the audio dub. It’s really annoying!
