My NO BUILD TRUCK CAMPING SET UP for WINTER CAMPING
Вставка

- In this video I do a no build truck camping set-up for upcoming winter camping adventures. Everything I use is removable and fairly compact. Although I live full-time in a 21 ft travel trailer, I wanted a set-up to get into more remote locations when desired.

Get a pool noodle to convert your trash can into a more comfy toilet so it doesn’t pinch your backside. Pool noodle takes up almost no space. I got some string LED lights that connect to a USB. I can connect it to my jackery power bank but I feel it’s more convenient using the smaller power banks to connect it snd just recharge the power banks on the jackery. You are smart to have a cot like that. The storage under the bed is invaluable. Remember not to put your wool blanket on top of your down sleeping bag cuz you will undo the insulating benefits of the loft of the down. But if you use it inside your sleeping bag as a sort of liner, you will be toasty. I think you have a great set up there. I look forward to your adventures in your truck bed camper as well. 😊
I want to know the brand of the airmatterss that slips inside the cot so that it does not move on you at night. Thanks. I bought the cot and love it!
I like the pool noodle idea. I personally use the dedicated Homer bucket with liners and moon seat! I MUST keep in the pickup shell for all traveling! I have NO large intestine, (therefore no solid stool) so when Mommy Nature calls, I have maybe 2 minutes to respond. Thank goodness for the heavily tinted windows on the shell!
My two favourite nomads are Foresty Forest and Catherine Gregory. Seriously, this one will help a lot of people to know what they need on the road.
Glad I watched this today! We lost one of our pups last month and I told my wife yesterday we need to sell our large pet food container. Keeping it now. Great use ideas for that!!!
Thats about the same set up I ran with for years in my Tacoma. Just some remembrances: A regular underbed plastic roller bin fits under the Roll-a-Cot for great storage. I also used a couple of stackable storage bins for all my gear and personal effects. It kept it all together for storage and one makes a nice end table. I mounted a plastic cutting board to the tailgate with sheet metal screws - makes a flat surface and great for food prep. I got quick drying microfiber towels and sewed velcro "pads" along one edge and glued the other side above the windows...get a dark color...and you have easy to use towels AND drapes...and when up they dry quick. Safe and fun travels...and your right...the bed rug is heaven on your knees.
A great item I utilize is a sheepskin throw made from 4 sheepskins sewn together. Costco has them, and other places.
And in Winter the sheepskin, hair side towards you, allows for body heat to be trapped, and the loft of the hair allows for moisture to escape with some body heat so you don't get too hot, and sleep comfortable. Sort of like a buffalo hide and the way Native Americans utilized those.
Glad to see you are finally set up in the back of your truck. It will be a great option for adventuring. There are free standing tents that are made to wrap around the back end of your SUV or truck such that you can slide out of your truck into a free standing full height tent to stand up and get dressed or whatever. Or in the case of long term inclement weather, a space that is not so confining. The end that connects to your truck can be closed up when you are not connected. It could also be a camp saver if you want to drive off and come back to the same camp site. And don't forget, you can add a roof basket to your truck cap or cab if you need or want to bring more gear with you.
You should have the best of two worlds: the trailer as a comfortable base camp, and the truck for rugged back country adventures.
Beautiful photography (as always). Happy trails in 2023.
Happy New Year. I use the interlocking puzzle mats for tent camping. You can custom cut to fit any space. They are cheap and lightweight. If need be, you could buy a bunch to add another layer to go under or over your new rug. You could place over your new rug to keep the dirt off and protect it or buy a few to place on the tail gate for a cushion. Best of luck in 2023!
Also the farm supply companies have stall mats that come in various sizes that might work.
Great idea !
Those are Much more durable than the light weight foam mats, but poorer insulation.
you're always awesome! Happy Trails and stay safe and warm out there! God bless you, Cat, in '23! 🌲💙🌲
Great job Cat, what a GREAT way to utilize the truck. Can’t wait to see you camp in it. Such a cool idea. 👏🏻 👏🏻 👏🏻
In my past experience I found that to comfortably sleep in the truck bed, the walls of the bed needed to be insulated. There are numerous options, even the spray in type. Go out there and try it out without the insulation and see what you think. Have fun and be safe.
Wow- you keep evolving! I look forward to more of your adventures! I hope you’ll be richly, abundantly blessed through this next year. ❤ ⭐️
Awesome idea. Keep it simple. Don't fill up the back of that truck with junk that will get in your way. Cook the way you do when back packing. I would trade in the camp stove for a Camplux single burner. Much less space. I love mine. Buy the fuel canisters by the case. Finally.... Curtains... Happy new year Cat.
Thanks so much! I'll check out that stove. :)
Remember to move your propane - butane - whatever gas bottles or tanks up front when you're driving, to keep them warm so that they light easier
Wow! I have the blue mesh rollacot from camptime, the same carpet kit, a folding table from one tigress, a Camco porta potty which fits under the cot, solar charger with portable solar panels, small 12 volt fridge/freezer combo, folding milk crates from Costco which fit under the cot, led lanterns, buddy heater, zero degree down bag and small cookstove. My camper shell is a hightop sitting on a 2015 Chevy Duramax crew cab 2500. It's silver. I also have a helinox type chair. I set this up so I could use my truck as a truck when needed. Everything is light and portable. Great minds think alike. I also pull a 25' travel trailer in the summer. I like to take short trips in the winter and leave the trailer at home. I also carry a couple of tarps. One I can toss over my sleeping bag incase the camper shell drips condensation on my sleeping bag.
I am VERY impressed with that green hand truck. Now that is heavy duty!
Oh Catherine... How awesome to have a family owned property, so beautiful, at your disposal. I am sure the comment section will be full of compliments and criticisms but all I can say is...OUTSTANDING job!!!! What a great set-up for what you intend. We cannot wait for future episodes. Just one thing...you look perfect with Birdie, and she with you. Think about a canine travelling companion now that you have the room. You won't regret it.
Stoked!!!!!!!! Really, I know that's not the only word you know.
Nice video. I just ordered the same cot for the back of my long bed Tacoma. The company that makes it is actually based in Spokane, Washington. I was impressed by their customer service when I contacted them through their website.
Thank you for a very simple, to the point, set up. Building a wood box frame, and all the other stuff is simply not necessary. You can easily stack storage crates if you need a place to put things. Thank you for simplicity.
You'll love it!! I turned my van into a no build camper van last year. Although I have a ClassC motorhome, the van has become invaluable. Nearly everything I've used in it, I already had.
I did buy a collapsable trunk organizer, which I keep some clothes in. And I learned to carry a cloth bag to put dirty laundry in because I threw some away when I was using the same bags that I also use for garbage. Oops.
Good ideas on the pet food container.
Happy camping!! 🏕
Roll-a-cots are super legit!! I love the Blue Mesh ones that are waterproof for boating and canoe camping. They also make awesome packable tables and chairs!
Happy New Year. Thanks for the videos in 22 look forward to those in 23.
It will be good to leave your trailer somewhere as a base then explore the surrounding area for a month or two before you move base. Now that you can drive further from civilisation I hope you have everything so that you can self recover.
A prev bf had your same truck set up. He made drawers that slid in and out to hold gear. He put a shelf in to put mattresses on. Great to keep all your stuff under your bed. Easy to get to everything. Happy New Year!!
I like the no build set up for light weight. Just the cot and carpet make it pretty cozy looking. I'm moving from motorcycle camping to truck camping with a camper top and it's quite luxurious compared to what I can carry on a motorcycle. I now have two warm puppies for cold nights!
We love our bed liner. I added a memory foam shower mat to add additional cushion to kneel on.
I am currently at this point in my journey! I am looking for a truck shell and I love your simple no build set up. I have gotten some great ideas! Thanks and best of everything to you!
Nice setup for truck camping. It’s great that you have enough headroom to fully sit up while also having space for storage under the bed. I’ve really enjoyed camping in my much smaller Rav 4, which feels cozy and (relative to a tent) safe from bears so I think you’ll have fun in your nimble rig.
Great camping tips, I used to do all my camping from an ultralight aircraft but then I finally figured out I had cheated death long enough so I took it down a notch ....
Inspirational! For trash can, I use a dedicated Homer bucket with the 5gal screw on/off bucket lid. Some 550 cord with a weight attached, tossed up and over a branch at least 10 feet above and tied off to a differing anchor point. The buckets also work great for food storage, keeping out of reach of hungry critters that may be around! FYI: You can also obtain free 3.5 or 5 gal buckets with lids from your local grocery store bakery section! Get several, you can always Clorox clean and rinse and use them to store potable water! Blankets, moving blankets from Harbor Freight are cheap, if nothing else they make great cushions. Insulation: Homers or Lowe’s have the thin lightweight aluminum insulation that is easily cut to shape for your windows and shell roof, held in place via Velcro strips, cost cheap! Also a piece of the aluminum under your sleeping bag may help with warmth!
I use the aluminum insulation, too. I spray painted the outfacing sides of the cut panels to match my camper shell. Inside the shiny aluminum reflects even a tiny bit of light to brighten the room. I hot glued little flat steel lugs around the windows and use magnet with hooks on them to hold the insulation in place. I use the hooks for stringing lights and other light duty. They're easily removed.
Happy New Year Cat! Such a cool set up! It's like a little fort. Looking forward to seeing your adventures in 2023! ~ Kelly
... Happy New Year Catherine ..... A simple conversion is perfect and plenty for occasional use .. the screw off jug might also work with the bucket toilet lids sold at Walmart as a Lug-a-ble Lou .... can probably find a short legged side table for the space left ,, or maybe a storage tote with a flat top to use for a work surface ... will be great fun to have this to get to some off road camps and trailheads .... Look forward to the new season .....Stay Safe and God Bless ....
Happy New Year! Birdie is the best helper! That looks like a great setup for camping. We have some of those same items, I love my camping stove. Looking forward to seeing your winter camping adventures.
Awesome non-build build! You just gave me a ton of ideas for my upcoming project. Thank you!
Turned out real nice Cat! Can’t wait to see some of your adventures with this setup 😊. Using the pet container to store trash or even food storage to keep odors down is just brilliant, think I’ll use that idea for my 4Runner camping setup. Take care and stay safe out there!
Happy New Year to you Cat. Good idea to set up the truck like that. Should make for a comfortable place to sleep and you can access more remote places with just the truck. Thank you for another great video and looking forward to what adventures 2023 brings.
Very cool example of how easy a truck camper can happen. I see myself starting this way before evolving into more complexity. Keep up the great work. Happy New Year Catherine...!!!
Great simple set up! I camp the exact same way. if I can throw a suggestion your way… The metal C clamps that are holding your camper shell down to your truck bed you will want to put some type of foam and some tape around those four clamps because it is guaranteed that a knee, ankle, definitely an elbow is going to hit those at some point during your trip sleeping or crawling around in there. I learned the hard way. Cheers and happy camping.
Totally awesome I've been using my campers for over 35 years without no build its a fun experience and more rewarding.
Yea it is going to be a awesome year🎉 camp on sister!!
Thanks again, for sharing your adventures, and the spectacular scenery, which is prevalent in all of your videos. Stay well & safe, and keep on adventuring .. Cheers.
I have one tip re: climbing in and out of the back of the truck bed. Ive found that doing so kills my knees. I like the puzzle piece floor tiles from Harbor Freight for the bed and I purchased a longish kitchen sponge floor mat to roll onto the tailgate. It is a total knee saver and, now, I absolutely won’t go without it. The pet food container for food is an excellent idea, especially use of such for a toilet. I have a short bed truck 5ft, so that limits use of my truck for camping, but Im trying to figure out how to do it. It would be so fun to take impromptu overnights more easily, when hooking up and pulling out with the trailer is more cumbersome. Im super excited to see your truck camping adventures begin!!
Great idea. I was waiting for you to do this type of thing since you purchased the trailer. One item you didn't talk about was water. I think you will need at least a 5 gallon water container to take with you. Love your vids. I enjoy all of the locations you go to. I would like to visit them all myself. All the best to you in 2023.
Great Set up.
The bedRug also has optional side carpeted pads that fit around the wheel wells and the front of the bed. Well worth it.
Catherine, I have been watching UA-cam for 10 years and you for 2. This is the first time I’ve been compelled to comment. You are hands down the most positive, hardworking, and resourceful woman. You give me strength and happiness with every video you’ve made. ❤
Thank you so much!
This is very useful, a good solution to the problem of insulation when camping in a truck bed. The fact that it is all removable in minutes makes this set-up attractive for a weekend trip in a truck that needs to be a truck sometimes. I was thinking about a rooftop tent but this is so much simpler. Thanks!
I took a road trip once in my Chevrolet S 10 truck with a camper topper for several months through every western state. I attempted to do a build just as you, but I had less space little experience. I made the trip just fine but jettison some gear along the way like an air mattress, you will enjoy having the truck for your off-road experiences.
Nice setup. It will get you to some beautiful overlooks, tough trailheads, car drop backpacking, etc. I think you will like it 4 seasons. No camp setup/tear down. Chair out, camp. Chair in drive. That’s how I did the Alaska trip.
Love that Vern... "Chair out, camp. Chair in drive." :) Thank you.
@@CatherineGregoryAdventures happiest of new year’s Cat.
Happy New Year Catherine!! I'm so excited to see what new adventures are in store as we follow you in the great outdoors!! I used to do a lot of camping when I had a truck and camper as well in the Sierras!! I as well had that same bedrug and loved it!! See you soon, stay safe!!😃
Happy New Year Cat! Your no-build truck camping setup for winter looks awesome! It all fit together well on your truck's bed (yea!) and when your other things arrive that you've ordered, you'll be all set. Have a wonderful 2023 full of adventures. Jenny 🌎🕊🎆🎉🎈🎇
Everything looks great! Can’t wait to share your 2023 adventures! Happy new year!🎉🙋🏻♀️
Life is Good! Enjoy the adventure!
Happy 2023, Cat. Love the camper truck setup 😮Looking forward to the new adventures. 👍🏻🙋🏼♀️🎆🎉
Just got an 05 sierra already carpeted bed so I don't have to do that but thanks for the great no build video I know how I'll set it up now I never would have thought of this .
How exciting to get this camper ready. Happy travels and happy 2023.
I think your going to be happy with your downsizing experiment. Giving up a little luxury for more freedom looks like what your doing. The rodents get into your vehicle by climbing up on the tires, four good mouse traps positioned around the tires have eliminated my rodent problem, of course you only have to use them when your where there are mice. Letting things evolve as you go is a smart way to go otherwise you will end up with stuff that you don't really need. Happy New Year.
Happy New Year Cat! Good that you ste overcoming your fears of past experiences. I personally know how hard that can be. Wishing you many safe adventures in 2023 and will following you along the way. Cheers!
Happy New Year! What a great setup in your truck bed. Looks cozy. I can't wait to see your adventures this year. Have a blessed Sunday!!!

Thank you Catherine for showing me how I could set up our Ford Ranger 4x4 twin cab. & tour Queensland without too much expense. Happy New Year from Elaine in Queensland , Australia.
*Wishing you and your family a HAPPY NEW YEAR, Miss Gregory* .... Safe travels during this winter season !!
Nice and simple setup. I have a Bedrug in my pickup and absolutely love it and you are right about the knees. Can’t wait to see you using the setup! Oh and Birdie is a beautiful Brittany Spaniel!
Great addition would be pieces of Relectix bubble foil for the windows. It is easily removed and stored away. Would be great for nighttime privacy and insulation. Enjoy the winter camp experience!
Back into the truck bed. Yes. Happy New Year, may it herald many rewarding adventures for you, and us.
Love the music you put with videos. Real Zen feeling
You have achieved a great looking setup for the truck. Glad you are finding all the stuff that will make your life better on the road. Have a great day and am looking foreward to your next stop.

Being around all these people near the beach as beautiful as it is makes me miss the stillness of the mountains.
Happy New Year!
I’ve decked out the back of my truck too, when I don’t want to pull the trailer. It is so handy. Roscoe likes it too.
You are going to have so much fun. Can’t wait to go along with you on your adventures.
God bless!

HAPPY NEW YEAR! Great idea for trash storage. Love the cot and cushie flooring. Bertie is a sweet pup. My first non-tent camper was just what you have there...and many miles and camps were enjoyed. Thanks for all the great videos. Sunday morning staple at our house.
Welcome to the joys of winter! 👍😎🇨🇦📷⭐❄✌💜

That look like a great set up for what you want to do. Happy New Year. My wife and I hope to do more camping this year we started increasing the amount of camping we have done and really enjoy it. I am looking forward to see your 2023 adventures
It looks great! Congratulations on your newest set up. Can’t wait to hear your ongoing reviews of these products. Happy New Year and many Happy Adventures! 🎉

Happy New Year! Can't wait for you to see where you'll take us in 2023.
Thanks for your video, you did good. I am excited, I just got an old camper shell for my truck and glad to find your video and ideas for how I can set mine up.
Its nice to have options. Necessity is the mother of invention. Safe travels and thanks for taking the time to produce your content. 👍
Happy New year 💕🎉👏. Safe travels!!!
If it were me, I'd have a light fiberglass camper like a 'Big Foot' so it would be more comfortable when going out for days on end. The winters can be brutal and fidgety cold out there. Take care, enjoy the holiday and travel on !!
Happy New Year! Perfect simple setup!!! To many awesome unforgettable adventures in 2023.
Greetings from Colorful Colorado. I pull a converted cargo / camper trailer ( my build) with an Excursion which is also set up as a camper. Best of both worlds. The trailer is the home on wheels, with stand up room, but the Excursion makes a great truck camper / spare bedroom also. The Excursion can get into places I wouldn't want to pull the trailer. Goodonya I'm new to your channel but look forward to your future reports.
Thanks- i ordered that cot,and will get rid of my great mattress, for more useable room. !
Excited for these new adventures! Happy New Year!
Birdie makes the work fun! That cot needs a layer of memory foam…those rails on either side do not look comfortable at all. I love your excitement the potential the camper holds for you…to have a home in the stability of the trailer and the freedom of the ability to go camping on the truck …it will increase your mobility! Looking forward to all the adventures ahead. Happy New Year!
Catherine, thank you for another great video.
Happy New Year to you and your family and friends! Enjoy, be safe in 2023.
Happy new year, good way to start the new year, watching you always makes us feel better, thank you.
Happy New Year Cat. I am looking forward to all of your adventures in this year. May this new Year bring many blessings, new adventures, new friends and happiness to you and your family.
