The outakes were so cute. Thank you for exploring for those who can't.
I would recommend a fleece or puffy throw for trips like that. It's great for sitting and watching the sunset, or to use on top of your sleeping bag at night. It's easy to regulate the temperature if you're too cold or too warm.
Ok. I’ll admit it’s been a minute since I’ve watched your channel and … where’s your truck camper? 😅 It actually doesn’t matter, I’m here for the adventures and beautiful scenery you show.
Side note: I’ve been living in my rv for 2 plus years and I’m seriously thinking of going smaller so this is perfect for me to watch and see how you do.
Thanks for taking me to places I'll never see.
My dad cooked a dish like that. He called it slum gullion. It's an old hobo recipe.
I'm struck by how resourceful you are Cat. You find a way to make anything work, all while maintaining a positive attitude. Another great video!
Yes she does!!!
Thank you Mark. 🙏
Hi Cat,
Enjoy your videos. One thing you might want to consider adding to your setup is a 5 Pound propane tank. You would save yourself quite a bit versus having to always buy the bottles. Refilling the propane tank would cost about $5.
Great idea they also make smaller ones I think 2.5 lbs size perfect for those weekend getaways!
We camp in that exact spot often. Thanks for not giving away exact locations of your campsites. It is amazing how some of the best free spots get overrun after Facebook and UA-cam. Beautiful spot.
It’s always good to see you and thanks for the journey. I am currently in Alabama, but hope to get out west in the springtime. Maybe we’ll run across each other. Good luck and best wishes - Rich KØPIR
thanks for sharing this great adventure.
I did a similar build last summer. It was a lot of fun to see you do it too! I had no audience to show it to, so I kept dragging my wife out to see every advance of the build. One additional suggestion I would make is to consider installing a roof vent. What it does for ventilation is that it will give a way for the condensate (from your breath and the heater) to rise and escape. I found that sleeping inside the topper w/out a heater was colder than if I was in a tent! It occurred to me that it was the moisture in the air was bringing the cold right to me. It takes guts to cut a hole in the topper, but once done... really worth it!
Love seeing you have two options for camping. Thanks for sharing your journey with us.
Yes! I'm excited about that. :)
My wife uses 5 beans and 2 peppers in her chili. She uses bell pepper ( green and red) and chipotle peppers. She uses 5 beans ( kidney, black, northern, white, pinto’s) add onion and season with McCormicks seasoning
Holy moly- the beauty you captured. Again. 😊❤ The light. The snow. The mountains. Thank you! We appreciate your talent weekly.
Thank you for the spectacular scenery! I love your videos. They're professional quality and very entertaining.
Hello Cat! Great adventures as usual! FYI trash compactor bags are great for temporary toilets! They are very heavy duty! And virtually leak proof.
Now I want chili and pancakes! Yummmm. Great video. Peace
Sweet! Now get yourself a rack on top and an awning! I use my Decked system for all my kitchen supplies. Fun to see how you set your truck up. I’ve gotta take my Springdale in to get some warranty work done so I think I’m gonna do some truck camping down at Anza Borrego. #inspired 🤙
Wonderful video! Beautiful scenery , and always fun to see your meals , thank you for filming and sharing 😊 😊⛺️💜
I hope there’s still time left for myself, I admire your adventurous nature.
Great video as always so inspiring 🎉
That looked like so much fun! Great landscape and, I felt like I was there. Really enjoyed this video. Thanks for sharing.
Greatness Catherine! 👍❄☃️❄💙 Very nice set up! Your truck looks cozy! It was cool to see your foot prints in the snow where you set up the camera! 😎👣❄👣👍 Stay warm and have a great week! 🙏💛
I envy you Catherine , I live here in the Blue Ridge Mountains of western North Carolina.
Had 25 years in the film making business. 6 films for the National Geographic Society, 2 films for
the National Audubon Society, 13 appearances at Carnegie music Hall . I enjoy the nature part
of it too. Best wishes, Ken Creed
That morning sequence at your campsite after the snow was beautiful. Shots were stunning, and the music was perfect. Excellent work!
And @21:51 it's neat to see the truck camper top all clear of snow from having the heater on, and seeing the rest of the truck covered in snow.
Pour over coffee is great anytime. Pour over coffee is out of this world sublime on a cold camping morning!
You’re a brave soul to winter camp in below freezing temps. Looks like you’re well prepared, so enjoy! The scenery is wild and beautiful.
One of the things about camping in the back of your truck is that you can't lock the canopy from the inside. If you'd like to be able to do that, you might want to do what I did...I riveted a small "L" bracket above the metal tabs (the inside portion of the canopy handles) inside the canopy. When I'm hitting the sack for the night, I turn the "L" brackets downward to come into contact with metal tabs so that the handles can't be turned open from the outside. The "L" brackets are tight enough that, when I'm not sleeping in the bed of my truck, and the tabs are in the up position, they won't slip down and lock me out of the bed of my truck. : )
Good morning Kat, been watching your videos for quite some time now and I must say I've never been disappointed. I think this set up is awesome.
“Getting back to basic.” 🔥🔥
Nice setup! And such beautiful location, love the snow.
I used to be a camper and the sights of sounds of camping are making me realize just how much I miss it...! I travel by car to many of the same areas you go, but I have decided this will finally be the year that I get a van. Thanks for your lovely energy and inspo 🤍
The lands around Torrey are a great place to spend some alone time, not over-run as it is in Moab. I camped in my SUV for over 20 years before finally getting a small class C. You'll find you love how flexible this style of travel can be, and the 4x4 will get away from it all.
That's a convenient setup for quick getaways. I've thought about doing the same with my truck but I think a little bigger cap would be nice.
Happy New Year Cat! What a wonderful adventure to start off the new year . . . I noticed when there was no music during your reflecting moments on the tailgate how absolutely still everything was. Super quiet and peaceful. Knowing you didn't have the creature comforts of your trailer and being exposed like you were, must have felt just amazing. Loving the photography as always and your sensitivity to your pace of editing skills. Always a treat to enjoy my coffee on Sunday morning with you and your gentle story telling voice.
Thanks so much Cree!
You're a true pioneer woman, Catherine ☺.Thank you for bringing us to the most beautiful scenery once again. I look forward to Sundays and your adventures. Also, thanks for introducing me to Sumatra coffee.
For a nice little tarp cover, I recommend something about the 10x20 foot size. The overhead should be 10 of the 20 foot side with the remaining 10 angled down and secured to act as wind shelter from prevailing direction. Height should be set to about 6-7 foot which should be just about 6 inches above pickup shell height.
Picture perfect as always 😊 Knew you would figure out your camper space. ❄️❄️🙋🏼♀️
Thank you Sharon!
We live in northern Utah, (cache valley) and we love the southern part of the state and only 3hrs from Yellowstone.
Great video, thanks for sharing.
Be safe!
I love Utah!
It looked like a great first truck camper adventure, and everything worked well. Maybe one of those "stick on" shelf lights with a bit of Velcro stuck on the middle of your camper ceiling would be a good, quick, and easy-to-use source of light in the middle of the night.
Great idea! Thank you!
Wow, look at your overlanding set up! So cool. What an amazing spot.
You stayed in a most beautiful place ✨️ 🙋♂️
The colder the weather the better coffee and chili taste!
That's for sure!
There's a saying in Utah quoted by the locals all the time: Wait 5 minutes or go 5 miles for a change in the weather.
Good morning Catherine! I'm super excited on your new set-up and how well you make things work. Loving the chili!!
If I may suggest, on the toilet, use several kitchen size trash bags and dum a coffee can full of kitty liter in each trash bag. Layer the bags one inside the other, works well, especially when you add a toilet seat to the bucket.
Thanks for the tips!

I got this idea when my wife and I were tent camping and she didn’t like the idea of leaving the tent (large 3 room tent), from then on, she liked it!
Thank you for taking me along❤
I have a feeling you’ll enjoy the freedom that a 2-stage roamer (truck then tent) from base camp offers. It’ll be a treat watching as you adapt. Safe travels.
Thank you Sid!
Hi Cat, I'm glad your first camping trip in the truck was a success! I'm sure you'll look back on it with fond memories. I love your artistic filming of the Canyon Country in the snow. I appreciate you getting outside to film sunrise and sunset; the coldest, yet most beautiful times of the day. Happy and safe travels to you in 2023!
Excellent, looked like a great place for a daydream⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️😎😎😎
Enjoy your youtube channel. You have way more experience camping than I do. I did 2 months of winter camping in a SUV 2 things that helped me were a walmart single burner stove that can burn 2 types of fuels with attaching cup. Quick set up. Fast hot drinks and one cup meals and a hot water bottle at night. You can use a Nalgene bottle with a sock over it will stay warm for hours. The lowest temp I camped in was -6 degrees with a strong wind. I was plenty warm. Enjoy!
You have more guts then me .. that's way cold! My problem isn't being warm inside .. it's getting up and having to go outside that's usually the problem. 40F is about my cut off .. getting ready to head to Quartzite for a day or two and then back to Death Valley (warm) for some exploring. BTW Bob Well's has a 'fix' for the Little Buddy heater where you can run .. as in my case .. a 11 lb Manchester cylinder and with the proper fittings you can fuel your stove too. I use two 50 qt Plano plastic boxes .. one for my gear and the other is my larder and on stopping those go outside immedietly .. they are waterproof. They become my cooking platform and stool! I try and create as much room as possible for me when stopped. Love the bib's btw .. Carharts? I carry an old snowmobile suit if it get's real cold .. born and raised in Northern Minnesota but now a AZ transplant I'm a wuss in the cold. 🤠
They aren't Carhart's, but are similar. I picked them up at Tractor Supply. :)
You need to gentley wipe the "window shades" with isopropyl alchohol and dry before the the velcro.
Love your pancake mix in a zip lock bag method, not needing to carry along a mixing bowl. Brilliant idea and thanks!
We use kitty litter with our portable camping toilet. I found it is less messy than woodchips. Specifically, I purchase the Unscented (free and clear) and Lightweight variety that comes in a jug, which is easy to transport/store and not heavy to lift and also doesn't have a scent that could attract animals. Also, I've always used just regular kitchen garbage bags, not the heavy duty ones, and I've never had one fail, even with multiple people using the toilet. The kitty litter is a little pricey (for kitty litter) but a jug should last you quite a while.

We like watching you!
Glenda “the magnificent” and i liked watching you while we had our cup of coffee this morning. A good start to the day.
Thanks
Although I enjoy all of your videos these truck bed camper ones are very special!
i love the little dog who wants to come with you!
Beautiful and so fun! 😀✌️🌳
I expect you already know this tip, but I’ll put it here so to ensure: If you preposition your windshield wipers outwards prior to frozen participation falling (as you did when you were cleaning the powder-snow from your windshield), this measure will aid in cleaning ice from the windshield, and help prevent damage to the rubber wipers. Merely a note to help, but being one who resourceful as you are I figure you may know this. Excellent video-as always! ! 😊
Thank you. I do know that, but forgot to do it on this occasion. lol
@@CatherineGregoryAdventures I expected you did. From your vids I perceive you to be a “sharpie”! Cat, sometimes in your videos when you’re hiking in those remote areas-I’d sure feel so much better for you if I knew you were packing a “equalizer” somewhere on your body!! This world has gotten so evil! Never back in the old cowboy days did villains go shooting children in schools. To me it appears that there is far less fear of or respect for an Almighty God! Just my thoughts. Thank you for responding, dear Cat!
@@CatherineGregoryAdventures u have to be very Careful when u put your Windshield Wipers up especially when the wind is pretty Strong I know a guy that did that and the Wind Snapped his Wipers off 🤣😂😆😅
Get a piece of foam-rubber pipe insulation from the hardware store. Cut a piece to fit around the rim of the potty-pail. Makes sitting much more pleasant.
This is the kinda camping I love❤ minimal style!
You hit a home run again Catherine, I loved the video. I did see one area which you may already be on top oi which was being cold and snow moving into your area.
In Amazon, there are vests which are heated front and back. There's a huge choice of different styles if you have an interest. Thank you so much for allowing us into your world. God bless you Catherine
Great setup! My truck cap and my camper van both have the same carpet type lining. I find that the sticky velcro will also come loose in the heat. I solved the problem by stapling it to my curtains. It was the easiest solution!
Great tip! Thank you Abby.
I love your new canine costar Birdie, she is adorable. Great idea for the window covers! You are a very creative. The scenery, as always, was beautiful. I suggest getting a heat disc (just warm), put in dry cooler with your water container to prevent it from freezing if you stay out for a longer period of time.
I fully insulated the inside of my truck bed. Even put up double layered and insulated fleece coverings on all the windows and sealed the tailgate. It is cave dark in there if no light is on. One tiny LED provides enough light to see.
HI CATHERINE 👋
BREATHTAKING BEAUTY COLORS VIEWS SCENERY LANDSCAPE WEATHER VIDEO 📹 FOOTAGE . I'M GLAD YOUR WATER JUG 💧 DIDN'T FREEZE . I LIKE HOW SIMPLE & NICE THE ADVENTURE WAS FOR YOU. ENJOYED 🍨 🍨 🍨 🍨 🍨 🍨 🍨 🍨 🍨 🍨 THE WEATHER THERE SHOULD KEEP EVERYTHING FRESH WITH IT BEING COLD THERE 🥶 GOD BLESS YOU ALWAYS ON YOUR ADVENTURES 🙏 THANK YOU 🙏 😊
Your photography is great and you don't play stupid music.
You can stop and camp almost anywhere with that setup! Planning to try that in my jeep this summer.i am 69
A new, "different kind" of adventure today! Hope it goes well!
Incredible scenery so far! A little cloudy/foggy, but wow what a view from your campsite!
Looks like a successful trip in the new setup. I am not a fan of cold weather but the snow does make everything look beautiful. looking forward to seeing more camping adventures with the truck. Thank you for another great video.
I outfitted a pick-up with a cap for bed camping. I built a plywood platform for my sleeping bag, but your solution to use a cot is much better. I wish I had thought of it. I must warn you, there is not a cap made that is 100% waterproof. You may have to deal with a leak or two. Cheers to you for your endeavor!
I like to make a big mug of hot chocolate with coffee, not just water.
Brave girl! Add fritos to the chili! Frito Pie 😋
A couple aluminum telescopic poles are great for temp tarps with vehicles. I do that with both vehicles. I have a couple of different size smaller propane heaters that I use for tents and van camping. You might look into one for truck bed camping. By the way, National Parks are now off the list for You Tuber destinations due to the new permit process for photography...
As usual, I'm here for the pancakes.
Your music and food and ideas about everything I would never have thought of using a pet container as a toilet I'm using that now too and like I said love your ideas
Great set up,Catherine. I especially liked the spray bottle with the vinegar and water to clean the dishes. Brilliant! And the dog food container as a porta potty is another good option. Thanks for showing us how possible it is to do things.👍
Very special BLM area! So beautiful 😊
Carol Shelby's is what I use whenever I make chili. I doctor it up with a few extra things like jalapenos, a large can of diced or stewed tomatoes, and every once in a while a green bell. Nothing better than chili with shredded cheese and cornbread in the winter. Wish I was there with you having chili Catherine. Beautiful country.
Doubt if you’ll read this but my 1st trip to Capitol Reef was Feb. of ‘76. Used a Coleman 2 burner and for making abalone chowder for my 20 years of SCUBA classes. Been most of the spots that you have hit plus others. Favorite is still California 395. Too many people now. Enjoyed the early years more!! 😎
Other than the freezing weather, that worked out great Catherine! I work outside so spending my free time out in the cold on the weekends isn't my bag, lol. I end my camping trips in October.
Hi Catherine! Love your videos. I’m temporarily basing myself in Saint George and would love to meet up and camp with you.
This video is for all the people who were waiting for the perfect camper or the perfect trailer to go camping. Warmth, food, water is what you need. Of course you can always have more. Do you need it though. Thanks for taking the leap Catharine .
What a beautiful place to camp 😍👍🏽💕😊🇦🇺
Catherine this was so cool, no pun intended!! I love how you added the carbon monoxide sensor as well. Your awesome 👌 thank you so much and stay warm 😊
I use Carroll Shelby’s chili mix too. Lots of folks don’t know that besides his storied career in racing and building cars, he was big in the Texas Chili scene back in the day.
Nothing like a cup of hazelnut and cinnamon coffee and watching a Catherine Gregory video on a Sunday morning!!!
The views are breathtaking! 😊 pretty darn cool to camp in this cold! 👍🏻
As an occasional SUV camper, and living on the coast of Western Europe where there's a snow sprinkle once in a decade, I fully appreciated your Winter truck camping experience ... magical to me ! Also I want to thank you again for all your content which sometimes included some places I have been to long time ago (I found your Channel 2 years ago and you are definitely my favorite person to watch on YT) and wish you a beautiful and healthy year 2023
Thank you 🙏
Wow Catherine. I loved this video. I can't understand why I haven't seen your channel before but you now have a new subscriber. I have th1e same setup as you minus the cot. 2 Cabela air mattresses and sleeping bags. An F250 with a LEER Topper and a 31' travel trailer. Try this, put your stove on the tailgate and cook there while you sit just inside the topper to stay out of the cold wind. It works and you're too pretty a girl for us to lose you to pneumonia. Shivering out in the cold win is never a good thing. Keep on keeping on girl!
I started drinking the AG1 about a month ago and LOVE it! Highly recommend! I really like what you’ve done in the back of your truck. Been thinking of doing something similar.
I also tend to cheat a bit, these days. I have a travel trailer and it can be such a challenge to push myself outside in less than great weather. I’m a bit envious of your adventure. I often feel that my travel trailer is just an apartment on wheels; not really camping, unless I use it just to sleep and potty. I’m working to creat a camping area in the short bed of my truck. It’s gonna be tight, but I think I can make it comfortable. Great inspiration in this video, for sure!!
Beautiful views from your campsite. Too cold for me, I like warm weather. Stay safe.
Nice, beautiful video. Looks cold, but you seem organized and knowledgeable. Thank you for showing the window coverings. I have so much trouble with that. Duck tape stuck all over!! Beautiful area your at. Thank you
Good Sunday morning and Happy New Year Catherine. The new set-up looks excelllent - and I'm impressed and absolutely inspired by how brought it all together. But of course that's to be expected from a talented and strong offgrid woman. That organic grass fed ground beef looks like the perfect thing for a cozy campfire meal while camping in the woods. Thanks for another look at your wonderful nomad experience living and camping in the Great Outdoors. 😁😍🌹🌼
Catherine, you are incredible…, and gutsy! You are correct, the winter elements completely enhance an already stunning landscape. What a beautiful start to 2023! Looking forward to seeing more adventures. Safe travels!
Catherine, thank you for this video, I really enjoy it that was a beautiful place you camp at you got one inch of snow
Awesome first adventure of 2023!
Thank you Angela!
We camped like that for years when we were young. Called it “tailgate camping”. Good memories.
My guy and I camp out of our crv. Got the Nemo aurora high-rise 4 person tent to setup chairs and a little kitchen on bad weather days. We still sleep in our honda crv. Works out really nicely!
