❤❤❤❤Yo reaper I felt your pain my brother. We don’t know each other but I know the loss. It never goes away. I used to run from it. I just to hide from it. No I embrace it because that’s how we keep them alive. When we cry and feel that pain deep inside that really our love and bond that we feel with the men/women that we have lost rather it be from war in Afghanistan to a loved one dying in 🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸

I was a 20 year old Sergeant pulling guard duty at our compound on the Korean DMZ. One of the soldiers has tried to commit suicide multiple times. A big guy, lumberjack sized from NC. They told me to walk the compound perimeter with him, armed with an ax handle because “he couldn’t be trusted with a firearm.” I was young and inexperienced but no way was I going to walk the perimeter with him. I put him 25’ in front of me. About two weeks later, he knocked his best friend in the head with a shovel and successfully committed suicide with a rifle he stole.

Listening to these soldiers tell their stories is heartbreaking, however, they're telling you these stories so that you remember that they are human beings, same as us ... soldiers follow orders. Those orders all not always going to clear a guilt-free bar. This is why it's important to listen more than anything, otherwise soldiers like these only have walls to talk to, so stay strong .. just like them. Great channel.

Due to the chronical lack of professional officers I found myself as an young NCO (drafted in autumn 1983) suddenly completely in charge of whole tank platoon of 4 pieces of T55 in the East-German army in 1984.
Four fully loaded and fuelled-up combat tanks with 100mm canons, machine and anti-aircraft guns, 36 metric tons heavy and 620 horse power. Each tank crewed 4 men each, ready to roll out of the barracks in 15 minutes at any given time. Day, night, summer, winter, drunk or sober, Christmas or not.
I too was still basically rather a kid of 20 years, my rank was sergeant at the time, a tank platoon leader was supposed to be an officers job with at least three years training.
Lucky I served in peace time but being in charge of such a unit is still very dangerous business. Training and discipline was very harsh, nasty accidents occurred, any leave rarely given.
For the whole platoon I had to prepare all the shooting exercises night and day in stop and full motion, imposing discipline, train in platoon and company tactics, execute railway transportation and night drives with IR-vision only and handle and instruct the crews on all the tank operation, maintenance and repairs plus lead the annual underwater river crossing of my platoon.
I was made responsible by order for the lives and well-being of the other 15 men and have the four tanks being undamaged and in good operational order at any time. Pay was lousy, hours, weeks and months long.
What are all our politicians think?
Abusing young men's dedication and willingness to serve their countries and societies, abuse their bravery and readiness to sacrifice? For what? For EV-Lithium in the Ukraine or geopolitics in Afghanistan, oil in Iraq or because the Chinese run a political system we do not favour?
Both my grandfathers served in the Wehrmacht in WW2 and I was one of the very very few German boys in my cohort to still have both grandfathers returning from war alive.
My grand-grandfather served our Kaiser in the Deutsche Kaiserliche Heer in WW1 fighting the French. He died in 1914 on the third day (!) of the war. We never found his grave in France although we roughly know where he died. He left my grand-grandmother with three very little children behind falling into absolute poverty for the next 15 years.
    It is so disgusting.
No, this politicians should not go to the frontline. THEIR children should go, can you all imagine how quickly they would sit on a diplomatic table to avoid war? When will they ever learn? Don't they have any better ideas?
I do not condemn soldiers activities regardless which side they fight for, because they are ordered to do so. And in their hearts and minds they believe they are doing something protective and important - because of the constant propaganda saying so.
When he talks about the sadness he experienced when one of his fellow soldier buddies did not make it, we should and must think about that the same thing happens - just on the other side and without us noticing it.
"Humans are at their best whenever they cooperate and do not fight!" I was told once by my boss. He came from near Boston and was an ex-Vietnam vet commanding (!) a river patrol boat. And you guessed it. He was by then just 20 years old...
At exactly the same time as larger kids in Socialist East-Germany we were collecting scrap metal and paper and empty bottles once a week to donate the money for the North Vietnamese fighting "the Americans", the "evil aggressive imperialists".
I am so sick and tired of this BS which repeats itself time and time again because of semi-educated, self-important and often greedy politicians on all sides.
We have to chose our leaders very careful. Make sure you guys only vote for politicians who are in for peace, diplomacy and compromise. Peace is the absolute base of any civilisational behaviour and democracy. Without peace there is no civilisation and certainly no democracy either.
I resigned from all military service in 1990 just after the wall fell into civil service, after realising that propaganda on one side is the same bad-ass lies like on the other side. Even its ugly style and message is the same.
Young men of this age should not chase "enemies". They should chase education and girls.
    Peace! from Dresden / Germany
