He married someone he thought he could control. She married someone she thought she could manipulate into making a mediocre Ballet dancer into a Ballet Company owner. They both failed miserably
She wasn't mediocre. She retired because of a tear. And her idea of a more inclusive ballet company is more than needed in the industry. Doug was the wrong man to start that with because he was a f cone. He was sued for borrowing funds he never returned in the past and had 0 business skills. Surely he did not deserve to die and murder is wrong unless of course you're murdering some terrorist out there, but this wasn't the case. Wish she had just disappeared and never told him where she went. Could have told him she lost the pregnancy and left the country.
I think Sr Grande got this one wrong. This woman was a problem from the start. Doug had issues, but Ashley was the one who lied and conned and murdered. She was the one who started the ballet company and abandoned it. She got tired of Doug and cheated and tried to hide his kid from him just so she didn’t have to share custody. Doug wasn’t the problem. She was.
I agree. And don't forget, all her claims about his bad behavior are from HER! She lied so much, why would anyone believe her when she claims he did all this stuff?
"Discharged a gun into the ceiling of his home during an argument." Because yes, everyone knows that's the alternate use for a firearm. Personal defence and to emphasise your rebuttal points during arguments. Also, they can sometimes be used to turn your TV off if you've lost the remote, but that's not recommended by the manufacturer and may not be covered by your warranty.
Yeah, I felt that way too. Especially after all the lies she made against him that were proven falsle. I don't see how someone could ever think someone like her ever had good intentions after they accuse you of poisoning people and sexual abuse against your child.
Was it ever found out exactly when she bought an automatic weapon? Did she have one before meeting her husband? If not, and all the other factors are true, it seems she set him up to be "demised", premeditated and vicious because he was never proven to be violent towards her or any of his children; and that's w/cellphones available to record it. I can't believe she thought she could get away with this. Pure hatred, and thinking only of herself and not about her daughter, except as something to own, a trophy a validation. Better her little girl not be around that, I'm guessing.
NgL, some of the things he did, like shooting at the ceiling, animal abuse, ect, of I were in her shoes, pregnant with his child, it would terrify me as well. I would've lied too to keep things peaceful as well. I'm not saying I would've killed him, but idk what hppnd in that house that last night. None of us really do. All I know, for sure is 1. His actions would've scared the shit out of me, esp the shooting in the house, esp to think yr bringing yr baby to that house what if he accidentally shoots again, maybe the ceiling, or whatever and it hits the baby? 2. If someone was coming at me, and I was in fear of my life, I'd shoot too.
@@jenerin905 and yet then invite him to reconcile repeatedly after you’re away from him. She wanted total control of that child even though he already had one child with whom he was close. Granted it was after her mother died that they became closer but she had no issues with her dad. And she could recognize how childish and spoiled Ashley was as soon as she met her, so she had her head on straight despite being a young teen when she met Ashley.
When there's a potential future custody battle, some victims will pretend they want to reconcile because they believe "acting nice" will keep an abuser from doing extreme things to take the kids. It's such a complex issue. Instead, in this case it's viewed as, "look at this manipulation" - because victims often have to be 1000% angelic to be believed.
Two foolish and immature people, one of them violent and trying to get with a girl basically that could've been his daughter... She thought in her childish mind the murder was justified and that she would get off because of it. I also don't doubt part of the attraction to him was financial... I was in a very violent relationship that I luckily got out of, so I know what it feels like to be afraid and want to kill someone for hurting you, but I knew as a mature adult more wrongdoing doesn't make things better. As always a great analysis, love the dance references😂❤
Doug more or less abandoned his daughter who was still grieving the loss of her mother over a woman he had only known for two weeks. By marrying her, his daughter lost being a beneficiary after his death. She talks about it in her TikToks. She and the baby are the real victims in this situation and Doug less so. Two toxic, selfish people carelessly wreaking destruction in the lives of their children. Both win the bad parent of the decade award.
8/7/24 Wanted full custody, pension and other benefits or assets. Divorce was out of question. Never wanted to share baby before she was born, tried to prevent parental rights. Tried hard to get him to drop all his injunctions, he refused!
How do you do it, Dr. Grande? Your final thoughts are so creative-so appropriate for the ballet dancer who did not want to tango with her partner-no matter the age. You turned this age-old story of life/relationships into a golden word dance. Thank you as always.
I’m glad that the jury told her to her face that she was full of lies It was disgusting the watcher on the stand. Apparently, she is an afflicted with the condition of not having any tear ducts.
Thankyou Dr Grande. I have not wanted to watch videos on this case up till now - when you're a ballet teacher and the case gets nick-named "Black Swan", when the whole concept of ballet training and reputation are still recovering from the horrid film of that name from around 2011 (Natalie Portman as protagonist), that also sullied the image of a dance world, your humourous rounding up of the video, put some perspective on the gravity, but also the anecdotic note that many tragic stories may develop - that humour is a good balance.
This story of Doug beating the dog to unconsciousness and hurting the cat definitely indicate some level of psychopathy. In my country people say that if one hurts the dog, something very bad will happen to this person. Well, this turned to be true. And, yes, I don't feel sorry for him, either!
That is according to Ashley, there is no evidence, no vet records. He explained in a deposition the dog jumped on him and scratched him and he pushed him by accident, like a reaction. Ashley produced all her “evidence” as screenshots, that can be proved with metadata or just her version. So everything she claims has to be taken with caution.
@@lhr8833think about the force needed to "accidentally" push a dog so hard it lands up unconscious. He clearly had anger issues. This doesn't justify her actions but it doesn't make me feel sorry for Doug either. Some people just bring out the worst in each other and then this kind of stuff happens
@@nixm9093 The dog was never unconscious. He never said the dog was unconscious and there is no evidence of that dog being taken to the vet or anything. That is Ashley’s fabrication, as many other things.
@@nixm9093 He had certain issues, but looks like he looked for help and he had accountability of other stuff he did in the house. In the deposition he says what he did and what he didn’t. Way more accountable than Ashley. Another thing Ashley doesn’t mention is that in those moments when he got that angry, she was abusing Eva. She was harassing him to punish Eva for anything. In the Vanity Fair article some friend of hers commented she had a competition with Eva and commented to that friend he had to choose between Eva and her. When looked in context, is still wrong to hit a wall and stuff like that, but I’m sure many parents would agree that if something will take them to that limit is someone abusing their child. Nobody claims he was a saint, he didn’t claim it neither, but things didn’t happen like Ashley portrayed them.
@@lhr8833 I'm not surprised he didn't take the dog to the vet. No one knocks a dog out accidently by merely pushing it. Doug was going to punch her and punch hard! Animals sense things and know when someone is violent. You're talking about a man who put a bullet hole in his kitchen ceiling.
I'm not sure that part is as incriminating as it sounds. They both loved guns, and were each known to concealed carry 2 or 3 guns at a time. It seems like no matter where they were in that house, it's likely a gun wouldn't be too far out of reach.
@@RationalGaze216 I get that they were gun enthusiasts. But to have easy access to 3 loaded weapons in a house where a 2 year old lived. Was irresponsible on their part.
@@orianjuarez3074No, that was not the problem. The problem was their hearts were not right with God or each other. Both were selfish and opportunistic.

@@saffylllama5609 theirs actually evidence that he committed multiple crimes against Ashley including putting a tracking device on her car, was caught by the neighbor trying to look in Ashley's windows, was secretly recording their counseling sessions and was trying to rent the house immediately behind Ashley's house while a protection order was in effect 😳
Well, they manipulated each other. And her manipulative actions were bigger than his. It was a premeditated murder case to me. Both have serious issues such as anger grandiosity or so on. But shooting cannot be justified and resolution.

A lot of the adjectives you used to describe Doug, also apply to Ashley. As you said, Ashley was already free of Doug. These were two people as bad as each other, who couldn't stay away. Doug was 30 when Ashely was born, which is concerning...
8/7/24 Ashley, had new boyfriend in Florida. She was still playing Doug, trying to get him to drop injunctions & she would do same (plan to get him to do it, she wasn’t going to drop) he was smarter then that & refused. Doug, wanted to know Emerson. Kept from him first 6 mos.
I’m glad you’re not painting Doug as a saint because he wasn’t. He seemed to also be abusive towards his first wife, recording them in the bedroom without her knowledge. Obviously he didn’t deserve to die, but seemed like a total creep and very dangerous.
They were both idiots. Ashley was correctly convicted of manslauter imo. Doug was violent and she showed no interest in collecting child support from him. She likely got sucked into a toxic emtional bond over and over again. There is little reason to see her as the manipulator in the relationship at all. I just could see this... Ashley fires at an approaching Doug in fear who likely mocked her attempt at self preservation. He only turned after an intital shot(s) missed and Ashley fired shots in rapid enough succession that to her it wasn't clear what was happening. She clearly wasn't a good shot suggesting a less than thought out take down. This would equal manslaughter and I think be a pretty plausible set of circumstances.

The studio was her dream and her idea and he was trying to make it happen for her but she 100% bailed on him and left the whole mess in his lap. She got pregnant and seemed not to understand how awful morning sickness can be and so she decamped to mummy’s house and was sure he was poisoning her. 🙄🤯

Ashley researched Doug for months, prior to “bumping into him”, at an event. Idc how “young” she was. She was calculated, strategic, and very much GROWN. She knew exactly what she wanted and she went to get it. Doug had just lost his wife and was probably extremely vulnerable. Women know how quickly men look to marry, when their wives pass. Well said🎉
She wasn't mediocre.

Dr Grande I’m shocked you so got this wrong
"Discharged a gun into the ceiling of his home during an argument." Because yes, everyone knows that's the alternate use for a firearm. Personal defence and to emphasise your rebuttal points during arguments. Also, they can sometimes be used to turn your TV off if you've lost the remote, but that's not recommended by the manufacturer and may not be covered by your warranty.
I always appreciate your videos and your analyses, Dr. Grande!
She lured him into believing thst she wantef tp reconcile using her mothers help
Hypergamy is real. All women are attracted to money and power.
Basically? He could've literally been her grandfather.

Ashley had 3 firearms strategically placed in the house that was packed up. At the time of Doug's death.
She had also sent her mom with her daughter to the park.
