I have watched so many of your videos. They are great. I love watching them. And also thanks for using the international measurements standards this time rather than the old world Imperial one. It's a headache to convert.
hi ellen , i just found your channel a few weeks ago and it is a pleasure watching. just made the butter balms and i love it! i used half the recipe and made 12 so i imagine the whole recipe makes about 24-25 lipbalms. thanks for sharing and being so informative.
Thank you Helen, I use honey on my lip balms or maple syrup for the vegans, you will need to add it when the oils are warm , but no hot and you will do it very slowly. Also for my local beeswax, since I am a coffee drinker, I use an empty coffee container ( call me cheap) lol but works
I so love the way you are dealing with the beeswax!! I have a local Apiary near me....hmmmm! Maybe I'll need to go this route - thank you so much for such wonderful ideas!!
I have really bad eczema on my lips and eyelids right now. I made this lip butter balm today and it’s just wonderful! So rich and soothing, on my lips and my dry eyelids, without being heavy. I love it, thank you so much for sharing the recipe with us!
Thank you so much for this recipe. Have made a batch and it feels so lovely on my lips. Will be giving a tube or two to my daughter as she works in the elements everyday and I know her lips will be protected.
💗 I am working on a lip balm recipe! I add a little castor oil to help retain moisture. One thing I've learned for sure is I can't make soap, lip balm, or bath bombs like I cook lol... For the most part it's about exact measurements! As always thanks for sharing! 😊
Thank you darling, Ellen. Always look forward to your videos. Sending you love and warm wishes from an EXTREMELY COLD Pretoria. Not complaining. Winter is my favourite season💃💃
Great video and excellent ingredients. They sure do fix lips up without effort. I often get dry cracked lips in winter and after a couple of applications it heals. Shea butter, cocoa butter and coconut oils are amazing ❤️
Yes, cutting with knives are dangerous for me, im clumsy lol!! These look very nice, I think I'll have to get a couple to try, thanks Ellen, you are so informative, I love it! Have a wonderful day 😊!
Hi Ellen, just came across this video. My question is do the lip balms melt easy?? I live in Florida where you know its very hot and humid. I do a lot of outdoor vendor shows even in the summer. thanks
Those Silicone molds are the best! I have tried other ones that are mot flexible and some tubes do not fit but with the silicone ones I have not had any issues!
What a clever idea reducing into smaller usable sizes! I hear so much about Shea being grainy how can you keep it from doing that? The melted oils would pour amazingly with a squeeze bottle like a salad oil bottle with a long nozzle like those bought at the grocery stores ...you give so much wonderful information thanking you so much for all of your efforts, stay blessed !
Thank you for the wonderful tutorials! If I were to sell lip balms at a craft fair, how would I know the expiration date? Do these need some kind of preservative so they don't go bad?
Hi Ellen, Thanks for the wonderful recipe. I tried it and it came out well. However, after a few days it started becoming grainy. Please have you got any tips on how to fix that.
I've had that happen before too. It could be too high of a melting temp, or the hard oils and butters weren't fully mixed with the liquid... You can try adding a touch more liquid oil if you remelt it and make sure it's blended really well.
Glad you gave it a try! The little sink holes are when the oils harden, they shrink a bit. You can go back over them with a bit more melted balm or use the heat gun to melt the tops a bit and it will fill in the holes.
how many tubes did you make with the weights of this recipe? Or what is your trick to create lip balm recipes? Do you have a calculator like you do with soap? Thank you so much for all your videos and advice!!
The lip online labels don’t stick……any tips to get them to stay stuck. I’ve tried a heat gun to get the adhesive moving but I guess on-line doesn’t use a good adhesive. Do you find the same problem?
Please help me I love your recipe and I use it all the time. But every time I use the cocoa butter all I smell is chocolate from that butter and I don’t smell the fragrance oil that I use. I don’t want to waste any of my ingredients or oils as it is not cheep but help me fix the problem thanks.
@@EllenRuthSoap I use your recipe. How is it that you use cocoa butter and you said that you don’t smell the chocolate you smell your fragrance oils what am I doing wrong.
I just made this today, and I am in love. I would be gifting the remaining ones and also gifting during the holiday 🎉. Thank you for sharing Ellen

Loved the idea of making small cubes of bees wax
Thanks! They're much easier to work with.
If it was *rock hard* it would be easier To deal with!
Just for a reference: 5grams=5mls= 1 tsp

Oh yes, that's so true... Cooking is "a pinch of this and that.." not so for soaping and the like🤣
Thank you for sharing. Great video as always!!

Thank you so much for watching! Your cold weather sounds nice, it's hot and humid here in TN (not my favorite weather)
@@EllenRuthSoap not mine either😊 I am not into summer. Stay safe, Ellen and enjoy your day😘
Thank you for the recipe. I love it. I had made one with honey as well and it did not work well either. This one is a keeper too 😊
It is always a pleasure to watch you make your products. 👍
Cheers and Blessings 💕💕
Thanks so much 😊

shea can get grainy if you overheat it, so a low and slow melt is good...
Thank you so much for the recipe! I have a question. Can I use beef tallow instead of shea butter?
I suggest trying a small test batch and see how you like it👍
We had trouble adding honey to our lip balm recipe too. I love your recipe . Thank you for sharing ❤️
yes, it's almost impossible to get it emulsified with the oils🤣. Thanks for watching!
Thank you for sharing. I absolutely LOVE THIS!
You are so welcome!
Thank you for the wonderful tutorials! If I were to sell lip balms at a craft fair, how would I know the expiration date? Do these need some kind of preservative so they don't go bad?
These do not need a preservative, I always suggest using within a year of making.
Hi! Thanks for the recipe. Can I add more shea butter, don’t have cocoa butter
Yes you can👍
@@EllenRuthSoap thank you ❤️
Thank you so much Ellen. I am trying your recipies. Could we colour this lip balm with food coloring? Did you try?
I would not recommend food color. There are lots of skin safe micas to choose from 😉
Thank you so much and loves from İstanbul, Türkiye @@EllenRuthSoap
Thank you for inspiring me so much! I don't miss a single video you put up! Would you consider sharing some vegan lip balm/lotion bar recipes? 🙏
Thanks so much for watching 💕. That's a great suggestion, I'll have to work on a vegan recipe 😉
You can use candelilla wax or carnauba wax instead of the bees wax, for the lip balm, the ratio is not going to be the same though.

@@EllenRuthSoap Thanks for the reply!! Will try doing that.
If you wanted to add color, what would you use? Micas, liquid? And would you use polysorbate 80 as well?
I would add a skin safe mica
Hello Ruth I tried your recipe fantastic thank you for sharing however mine had little holes in the middle what could that be?
Glad you gave it a try! The little sink holes are when the oils harden, they shrink a bit. You can go back over them with a bit more melted balm or use the heat gun to melt the tops a bit and it will fill in the holes.
Thank you Ruth that’s exactly what I did, I went over your tutorial again and did it with the heavy gun thank you so much for responding
Hello, what is the shelf life for the butters Shea, mango, cocoa, and kokum ? Thanks!
Most sellers of those butters will have an expiration date on them, I'd go by that.
@@EllenRuthSoap thank you!
how many tubes did you make with the weights of this recipe? Or what is your trick to create lip balm recipes? Do you have a calculator like you do with soap? Thank you so much for all your videos and advice!!
This recipe makes about 20 tubes
@@EllenRuthSoap thankyou so much!!
Can you use mango butter or other oil if you don’t have cocoa butter?
Yes 👍
Thank you!
Is there a substitution for the coconut oil?
You could play around with upping the other butters... I would try a small test batch and see if you like the feel.
Hey Ellen! Love your channel! How many does this recipe make?
Depending on the tubes you're using, it makes about 22-25 units
Thank you!
How do you know what size to make your labels?
online labels has suggestions for label size, these are standard lip balm labels.
The lip online labels don’t stick……any tips to get them to stay stuck. I’ve tried a heat gun to get the adhesive moving but I guess on-line doesn’t use a good adhesive. Do you find the same problem?
❤
Love watching your videos. Will be trying these in the future 😊
Great! Have fun crafting!
Is beeswax safe if consumed ?
I can't really speak to that, but this product isn't intended for consumption. Beeswax is a very common lip product ingredient.
Please help me I love your recipe and I use it all the time. But every time I use the cocoa butter all I smell is chocolate from that butter and I don’t smell the fragrance oil that I use. I don’t want to waste any of my ingredients or oils as it is not cheep but help me fix the problem thanks.
You can replace the cocoa butter with another butter.
@@EllenRuthSoap can I use coconut butter instead of cocoa butter will it still make the same exact recipe texture and all.
@@EllenRuthSoap I use your recipe. How is it that you use cocoa butter and you said that you don’t smell the chocolate you smell your fragrance oils what am I doing wrong.
I found it!!
I use 2 pipettes to get my lip balms into their containers.

I understand.
