450 HP Ford Focus ST Time Attack Car - One Take

- Опубліковано 15 жов 2024
- This 2013 Ford Focus ST has pretty much reached the end of what is possible with a Front-drive platform. It makes 450 horsepower and 400 lb/ft thanks to an extensive list of engine modifications including a built Hollands Performance 2.0L engine with a Garrett GTX 2867R turbo. It has a race-spec roll cage, full suspension, and is as extreme as any front-drive vehicle I've ever tested.
Check it out on Wheelwell!

this is the kinda guy who shows up to the track day, doesn't talk any shit, is super quiet, but blows everyone away on track.
Sets a crazy time, and then packs up and goes home.
garf117 Lewis is getting better each track day. Good for him getting out there and practicing (y)
"my work here is done" lol
depends on the class, fwd class possibly although older VW and Honda demand respect for their agility, and overall lightness. Personal Opinion far too much power for fwd, can't imagine what the torque steer feels like.
garf117 preyyy much lol
"Cars that shoot fire are better than cars that don't." Matt's priorities in life remain rock-solid.
"We def hit that bird"
^no emotion^ "yeah you killed it"
Brutal
savage
TheSpeedTrap it's a bird though, so who cares
so metal
Blue Euphoria All lives matter.
TheSpeedTrap At what point did he hit the bird? I keep watching it over and I miss it
One Takes have some of the best car vids on UA-cam. Consistently intriguing cars that you can only better appreciate by seeing in person.
Imo these One Takes are some of the, if not *the*, most genuine views into genuine car culture.
If meth injection is good for cars then is it good for humans too?
DMV Miata and Jeep : Meth, Cocaine, Crack and Prostitutes.. Great for any man looking to soil his roots and blacken his name.. 😎👍😎👍😎👍😎👍😎👍😎👍😎
I prefer heroin but to each his own.
This comment made me laugh out loud HAHA
It makes you faster but you live shorter...
I prefer piss.
That's a hell of a way to finish out the Focus videos!
Meaty knobs are my favorite.
Have you got big hands?
Yes
Make Knobs Meaty Again
LMAO! TMI dude, TMI.
Chris Starkey but the head isnt pink..... :(
this time on the TST one take, focus st race car, avian snuff, meaty knobs! stay tuned.
Thank you Matt for always putting out such entertaining content.
Brb modding my ST
With both of them in that car, the Focus becomes stock again.
Thats why he has a skinny seat. xD
Roderick Treadaway bahaha
please start releasing before 7. I love watching these before work
He's been doing this for years and he's almost done, doubt he'll change it.
wait why's he almost done?
oh, that's sad. thanks for letting me know though. I still love the podcast though.
Teh RedSpade He used to. Mentioned on a podcast that he's up all night before the release, so he changed the timing to evening
Colin Kao yeah, I just started listening. it's a great podcast.
Love when you post these. Ijust be walking in the house watch em before I go to sleep
Why no video of the flames??!?!
Cuz it sucks
One takes like that are the most enjoyable ones. Staight guy building an affordable car to his needs. Didn't skip a single minute!
I'm honestly glad one takes are dying off. Matt is too talented to spend his time on these videos and they were starting to get old dozens of videos ago. I'm excited to see what you do next, Matt.
Hey Matt, I really like the shorter videos, I think they get to the point and avoid the occasional awkward silence when you and the owner of the car run out of things to say...I can't explain it but I really liked this Focus ST, it somehow really appealed to me...Great Video and Kudos to the Owner of the Car!
One of the best one takes made ,matt so happy driving it smiles per gallon confirmed
I was so surprised when he said how compliant the ride is - was 100% sure it was going to be a spine buster. Pleasant surprise.
See this is one of those cars I wanted you to drive for 15 minutes... its a fine line that I'm sure is hard to gauge. Great video
This was great! I was hoping that this car had a LSD to hear Matt's thoughts on it. Im looking into a Wavetrac for my focus st. also the fact that you had issues with your ATP kit makes me further lean towards the Full Race kit when i upgrade. Great car Lewis!
Sounds like Stratified crackle and pop tune.
Basically the ghost cam equivalent of the Focus community.
Great job on car, I would personally tried to fit as much deadening back in it. But good power and not obnoxious sounds like that subaru had. I do want to do big turbo in mine.
Probably the best sounding Focus ST I've heard.
I like the way they present cars and road ride , i like this since i feel how car goes more without even sitting it in it helps to make decision :)
"One can only hope. Cars that shoot fire are better than cars that don't." You're a damn poet, Matt.
the audio is baaaad Matt! did you think about getting separate chest mics for u and the passenger?
Hard to get perfect audio in a completely stripped out car, with a full exhaust.
I think a better mount would help a great deal. You can clearly hear is vibration noises.
there was nothing better to mount on (i think). i mean look at the interior. there's no interior. it's all metal. like saruman. RIP Christopher Lee.
It doesn't matter what surface you mount it on, it's the mount that needs some kind of insulation to stop the vibration from reaching the body of the audio recorder.
I Like the fact that this way we can feel and hear how the car actually is. Good mics would hide the cars squeeks etc. the audio is perfect
man, this thing looked so composed and capable of using all of that power productively. very well tuned overall. good job. I wana see more. you dash cam your track days?
He needs 5% tints in the rear to hide the cage. Make it more of a sleeper 😉
Wow. Nice build Luis! I really dig the full blown racecar "interior" it's just a nice office!
I'm early and taking a shit at work!!!
crazythedon you already know
poidh.
you're fired
sorry but my poops are needed at this job
congratulations on your victory
Actually this is not the end of what is possible with a Ford Focus FWD platform. Check out the Focus BTCC cars from England, the mk2 ST built by Arena and the mk3 by Motorbase performance.
He only does cars sold in the US.
@@SI0AX His point is you can make more power out of mk3. These engines can be built to handle around 800hp.
@@sategllib2191You can pretty much do that with any engine. You will need to sleeve the block to get around the open deck design, then just put forged rods and pistons etc, and put the headstuds then a huge turbo with the fuel mods, maybe E85. Pretty much any engine can be made to this power level even if it's a 4 cylinder.
You could tell Matt likes this car. His smile was a dead give away.
Good Job Matt! You were really pushing it, looks fun.
Matt's seat was rocking back and forth!
These videos are awesome Matt, keep doing what you do! I'm trying to get my boring little grocery getter on your show this year if I can!
So you've done, what, three ST's, only one of which was big turbo and call it quits...but do dozens of Porches, Subies, and Civics and keep doing them? I for one would like for you to drive a street car big turbo FoST.
AkiraSieghart agreed
AkiraSieghart if you don't have a big turbo FoST street car for him to drive why are you complaining about not seeing one? He drives what people bring him.
I do have a FoST that will be big turbo within the next few months but I understand what you're saying. My problem is that he's driven three FoST's--the first two were Stage 3 and the third one was a stripped race car at 400 WHP. He drove them and then at the beginning he said he's done with the FoST's...like what? The one in this video was barely a FoST anymore.
AkiraSieghart there is only one Generation and one model of the Focus ST in America. They have been selling Porsche's here for 50 years and there are dozens of variants. Likewise the Civic. When there is a new Focus ST, we can start over with those
TheSmokingTire you are wrong I'm sorry but I own a 2005 focus st in America there are two different st generations. Sorry 😐.
Matt the type of dude that opens a bag of chips with scissors
alsib photo the type of dude that posts stupid shit in the comments.
alsib photo Can you elaborate?
Steve Olivera Can you elaborate?
Only because his hands are too big , crushes all the chips
Hope to see this guy at the local tracks. Crazy car.
Also known as the bird slayer
Matt's smile says it all.
This guy is great. One of my favorite owners! Cheers!
Those coilovers are so awesome
I TINTED MY TAILLIGHTS SO THEY WORK LESS -.-
headcas620 it doesn't matter, I'm sure he has a 3rd brakelight. Plus he isn't like these weak ass kids in my genration. Who buy fake wheels, cut springs, and tint headlights for their build. If kids out here liked time attack the car community would be way better. This is how you build a car!
headcas620 Normally I'd agree but...track car.
headcas620 That is a model of aftermarket tail lights that come with a tinted lens stock, there is a clear model as well as a red model. My friend has them on his Focus, trust me, they're bright, even with the tinted lens. It's got a bunch of straight LED diodes that point right back, plenty bright.
I heard that in Mr Regulars voice hahahaha
I tinted my tail lights on my 240SX because it goes with the color theme...but then I also bought some crazy bright red and amber LED bulbs to replace the stock ones, and it's definitely brighter than stock now.
Finally a harness that can hold Matt in place.
Best ST I've seen yet... Nice work man! Walk quietly and carry a big stick...errrr turbo
About to hop in my stock Focus ST to head to work. I am suddenly sad that mine doesn't shoot flames.
Logic thought he was slick by gaining weight and having Matt review his ST. We see you bro.
Fucking sick. Welded cage on a little hot hatch. I fucking love it. Lightweight flywheel with a street clutch will be the final piece of the puzzle.
Evolution of the one take needs to be on track.
mallratt25 I love working on the track! I take any and all opportunities for track work. But the videos always perform worse than street drives, no matter the car.
TheSmokingTire that's disappointing. I know one takes won't last forever. Would be fun if you could do a track day a couple of times a year to film a handful at a time.
Short and sweet. Thanks guys
Is the driver seat on the verge of ripping off the mounts in the corners, or is it just me?
Only 400 on built motor? I was planning on going aux fuel 450whp on stock motor until I can build it and go straight to 600 wheel
kinda confused, (time attack? ) then why have the weight of a 2nd chunky dude with you ? after gutting the car of all the wright?
I dont know how often Matt is flooring it, but this car doesnt seem to be very quick or much of a handful. I had a fwd car around the same weight at 400+whp and even with drag radials it would break 3rd gear loose.
I have a 400whp focus ST and I can spin 1-3 pretty easily even with 200 tw tires if I want to. But Lewis (the owner) has some suspension/traction control mods I believe that help mitigate those issues.
Is his seat super loose or just not sturdy? It looks like it is not fully bolted down.
Ok that Maserati add in the beginning was pretty dope. Sounds nasty for an SUV.
Ford Focus St is a really good car. The one thing that I don't like is the exterior design. But all around is a good car.
No mention of an oil separator???? Isn't it recommended? Especially for track application ?
Dude was so nervous that we didn't get a awesome review of the car. He looked at the dash like 50 times. rofl.
Why are you saying this is the last blank in your recent videos? What does this mean Matt ?
should the driver side seat move around that much in the car? or is my vision failing me?
He Matt - silly question... have you driven the Mazda 3 S GT six speed manual? Wanted to know what you thought of the 2.5 skyactiv set up - I just watched your drive of the new Honda Civic with the 1.5 turbo engine and I'm curious
Love the car but I couldnt help but notice: was the drivers seat bolted in all the way?! quite a bit of movement but just about none from the passenger seat
Hey Mateo why do you keep saying this is my last so and so I'm doing? Is the show ending?
Tom Atos no, he's just done a lot of focuses and wrx's and due to his popularity he can be discerning about what gets on his channel.
Tom Atos last of a certain car one take. he means he feels he has already done enough one takes of that car
Only so many times people want to watch a Focus or Subie going around, really. Simple as that I think. We have been seeing more new cars as of late, which I don't mind.
yes, he mentioned that he might end the one takes. he did do like almost every possible car so it gets pretty repetitive. Sure he will still do the videos for cars that are different from what he already filmed.
Tom Atos he mentioned that he might be calling it done after 500 one takes on the EverdayDriver Podcast, he has already filmed 400 at that time. He says this is the last though after he has driven all potential versions of a car, as there is nothing else he can say about the car at that point otherwise it's repetitive
That driver seat looks like its moving a lot. I would hate to think what would happen in a crash. Something he might want to look into
This smells like the MotoQ project car. That's nonsense Mr. Farah, last Focus ST. There are a couple of 500+ hp street driven Focus ST's being built right here in Southern California.
I have one it makes 586 and 630 to the wheels
How is it at that power?
whats the best bank for buck car focus st?
godcore223 what's the price range?
25k to 30k aud
So can someone tell me if the driver's seat is supposed to have play in it or not. Looks like on corners it has some slight roll to it. New to this kind of build scene and curious if its just me or not. Thanks.
The last focus st??? But I just bought my st. I should be done with the mods in 4-5 years.
Awesome video!! Glad I woke up early today 👍
cool composed guy. Sick ass focus
OK, HITF does this pass an emissions test in California? Or do they just read codes? Matt if you could make this a standard part of the spiel. Most people don't live in a testing area but inquiring minds want to know.
Clifford Bradford it would be such a dick move if I asked every person how they passed CARB because the answer would be so obvious: most don't and are cheating in one way or another.
Fair enough. I thought they were actually "passing".
Clifford Bradford if it looks like a duck and quacks like a duck.....
CARB is ridiculous. You can't even pass if you install an intake that isn't "CARB approved".
the fact that the cage is yellow also is just epic.
Best quote "cars that shoot fire are better than ones that don't" #TrueStory
Nice build, cool kid.
Have a set of fortune auto coilovers on my ap1 s2000. I love em!
Didn't you say "this is going to be my last focus" like 3 focus's ago haha
Damn I wish this was done on the RS :( nice job anyways looks clean and the bucket seats are
Calling for a modded 1.0L Ecoboost (Fiesta or Focus) with or without a big turbo. USA folks might laugh but they're not uncommon across the pond. Could be a great swap option...
Clifford Bradford I had one that you could consider “stage 2” only problem is that Cobb, stratisfied, jst, etc don’t have the means to tune them. A lot of the guys across the pond have 2-250whp out of the 1.0 using pumaspeed and they run and sound awesome. I traded mine in for an ST but I still recommend the car. It’s a fun little grocery getter
talk about dedication!
Respect!A joy to watch 👍
I have a stock ST. The tires burn off at the slightest throttle input. This must be insane.
greenmtnman big turbo cars spool slower and the power is more linear. They actually want to spin closer to redline where the 2867 makes 24 psi instead of 13. I was happy to find this out as autocross is easier with a second gear that is usable!
Why is there suddenly so many "last" cars recently?
Because the show is possible going to end! D:
SI0AX No, because there is no point in doing the same car 4 times.
Show is gonna end tho. He said that 500 videos is probably the number he's gonna stop at. Sadly.
Did you ever get into the boost?
Currently FBO tuned on my st but was curious on the reliability on a big turbo set up cause it is currently my daily
Limits of the stock fuel system would be fine. 350whpish, the garret turbos anyways are better built than the factory turbos anyways.
that plastic intake manifold can push out 400whp?
yup...its flows up to 700 whp. SP63 tried breaking it but the air hose kept popping off when they turned the air pressure WAY up.
Prime example of turning your fun and fast street daily to a racecar, then having to buy a new daily haha.
Matt is there any car in particular you've been wanting to do a One Take on you haven't been approached with yet?
101aptbam laferrari / P1
New smoking tire shirt=== "Cars that spit fire are better than those that don't!!!"
Matt, what type of shades do you wear?
Epic st! Great work man
How much to the wheels ??
Any chance we can get a full mod list?
Matt's doing alot of these end of the line videos . what kind of cars yout gonna do now?
great build
Impressive! Though I'm wondering, at what point do you just go buy an S2000 or other sports car? I love hot hatches, I have a GTI. Not hating, but I can't ever see myself totally stripping my interior, because in the end, I have a lot of extra metal and FWD still. These are just track disadvantages you can't get rid of, right? Am I missing something (I know, I know, "It's his car, so blah, blah." Not a real argument, please spare me that inevitable response.)
andrew horner I think there's a polite way to ask, so why choose this platform for a build and track car? It's a good question no matter what the car. I'm guessing a lot of builds like this start out as a practical street with mods and then then owners decide they want more. It is pretty fantastic that this can keep up with, say, a Cayman GT4. Troll cars are the best.
I tried to tread super carefully, and I was still impolite haha. I'm hopeless. But yes, exactly, why this platform for a dedicated track car? Again, I have a GTI; I even have done some modification with a Stage 2 tune and bolt ons, and Stage 2 clutch, and some other bits. And maybe when my car is old, if I still have it, I may get a little more hardcore on it. I totally understand the creeping temptation to mod your car, keep things novel. But the ST is pretty new, and he said he started going to town on it within 6 months. Just seems like a limited platform for an all out track car. Perhaps if this is a salvaged car, that may change everything, since that would make it half the price to start with.
andrew horner It's his car, so blah, blah...
andrew horner the MK7 GTI/FOST put down better numbers than a lot of RWD/AWD cars around a track; with that said there's nothing better than trolling say a GT and the look on their face when you pull on them in a FOST
daphenom45 You're right. But no matter what, there will always be some doucher making a comment like this. Having said that, I wish I bought a speed6 for the awd instead of a speed3. But still..
They were hauling ass the whole fucking time. Great video.
It looks like the guy regretted that joy ride the whole way
I love your stuff, great video. Dirty windshield:P
