- Calving has started at Folly Farm!
It's been a busy week here. We have been TB testing and Johnes testing our cows as well as having an early start to calving 2024! Luckily its all got off to a flying start with 7 cows calving and no intervention, just as it should be!
This ones a little shorter than usual due to being so busy, but I hope you enjoy it non the less!

Hope all goes will with tb testing we did ours last week and we passed it was lucky as the 2 farms next to us one on each side have got tb. Calfs are looking well carry on the good work there.
Great start to the calving season
Should have started until today but they have got off with a flying start.
I'd expect a flush of calves after the TB test..it always seem to bring them on
It’s like when she sheep get out during lambing. Next minute you can’t move for lambs. 😂
Why don’t you use a bucket when cleaning sheds out? Much cleaner job than using a fork with it all dripping out before getting to the trailer.
It doesn’t make a very neat job. All that happened is it boils up in front of the bucket. We generally muck out with the grab and then clean up with the bucket afterwards.

Are the babies heifers? They have shorter gestation.
Yes, all heifers bar one. All the AI calves are sexed heifers.
Does sexed semen work well for cows
Yes it works well but you only have about 5 minutes between removing it from the flask and inseminating the cow which is about half that of regular semen. So you have to work fast!
