    • @baldysfarm
      @baldysfarm 2 дні тому

      Yeh, that’s kinda the point. Small calves that come out easily. Average birth weight is 37kg. About 35kg for heifer calves. High growth rates mean that you wean calves that weigh around 300kg at 200 days and bulls can be finished at 14 months, weighing 620-650kg killing out as R4L. Steers and heifers can be easily finished on grass at 20 - 22 months too. Had plenty kill out as U-3 but they are mainly aimed at hitting the R3 and R4L range.

    • @baldysfarm
      @baldysfarm 2 дні тому

      😂 not for a good while yet. We would need a brand new pit to do clamp again as it’s not safe. Last time we did it a pillar snapped 😳 and bales make a lot of sense for us with feeding etc.

    Why u don't feed corn silage?

    • @baldysfarm
      @baldysfarm 6 днів тому

      Few reasons really. We don’t grow it because its very wet here and ruins you fields getting it out. It’s not great for your soil and we don’t have facilities to store it during the winter very well. It is a great feed though, especially for finishing cattle.

    Found your channel recently while researching the possibility of a small-scale farm in Yorkshire/Derbyshire in the next few years to run alongside my main business in the UK, which is nothing at all to do with farming. I've farmed before but overseas in much hotter climes (sugar-cane and zebu cattle) and you've gotten me very interested in learning more about Stabilisers. Subscribed.

    • @baldysfarm
      @baldysfarm 16 днів тому

      Yes and no. We think we will go for a 1200 mounted machine but with the wheel kit as when it’s mounted the booms stick out the side of the cab and I’m worried about catching them in the right parts of the yard. When it’s on the wheels you can pull the booms in tighter. 👍

    • @metalform-nzl
      @metalform-nzl 14 днів тому

      Hey Brian yep we have a lot of customers using a Tow and Fert on tillage ground, great for applying lime flour in a liquid slurry so no dust, and all your organics like compost tea's and biologicals, fish hydrolysates, trace elements etc. For example you can suspend and apply 1tonne of lime flour in 500kg of water in the tractor mounted Multi 1200, with the bigger machines, like the 2800 and 4000 you can get over the 2:1 ratio of lime flour to water. Big bonus is there's no dust!

      They are made in New Zealand. There are cheaper models but nothing as good

      Tbh, it’s bloody well made. Hard to appreciate on a video but that demo machine is about 12 years old and has been used my every Tom, Dick and Harry and still looks like new. And then as George mentioned, shipping it from New Zealand costs a chunk. I was talking to Peter (sales man) and he said they are hoping to get an assembly line over here meaning they can have more machines on a container spreading the cost.

      My fert spreader needs changing, so I need to talk to someone for prices and what machine suits me best, if anyone can tell me who deals in them in the UK would be great. Thanks

      @@baldysfarmohh an assembly over there would be the go. And yes, machine still does look mint for being that old. We have a 1200L 2019 tow and fert on 3 point linkage. Goes real good in NZ and for our system. Mainly do fish, urea and minerals through it. Still put on solid fert of serpentine super with bulky annually as not dairy so can't do the 8 applications type thing. Use tow and fert mix spread over 3 application of fish and urea depending on if grass or kale

    Love this James, getting more people involved in the whole supply chain can educate all consumers on how much work is needed to deliver a great quality product. Well done AHDB for putting this together. James, you might need more cooking practice before the rematch next year!

    Have you thought about mole ploughing some more water troughs in? Just a thought.

      Thinking about running a line right up the middle fence and having hydrant connection points every 100m or so. That way we have run a short pipe on the trough and only have to drag that up between paddocks. 👍

    Not thought of the dangers of luck blocks being a source of cross contamination of wildlife picking the blocks. We used to put blocks out for the Red Deer after stalking stags was over.😊
