Hard to believe it has only been 9 years. Seems like ages since he’s been gone. Was and still am a devout fan. No one could ever touch this guy’s style or technique...they never will.
As a experienced guitarist, I can say that Gay Moore was one of the best guitarists in the world. No matter how skilled other guitarists are, they might be able to play his riffs but they can never ever achieve the same tone, same vibrato, same feeling as Gary Moore
As an experienced guitarist I can say that that goes for any guitarists truly worth their salt … I can also so say that saying that something is “best” is void of meaning unless one qualifies “best at what” with some reference to a defined set of values. I can further note that “guitar” is not the answer to the question. And I can say that as it turns out, different guitarists are good at many different things and that no single of them can do everything all the others can do in quite the same way. Finally I can say that experienced people understand that non-specific references to personal “experience” does not add to a claim, it’s simply an argument from presumed authority …
Many of the most influential current guitarists have massive respect and learned from GM. You will hear them all at some point mention his influence. I don't think he was ever underrated. I know I was the only one in my circle of guitar friends who idolised him, maybe where you are coming from. He spoke with his guitar and wasn't one of the big ego loud mainstream types.
Who was it who said ''he's got a face like a welders workbench'' ?? Who cares, brilliant musician. I was a handful of people who witnessed a g force gig. Best album he's done. My opinion.🙂
I worked in a vintage guitar shop in Vancouver BC, one day i came back from lunch and the boss said oh Gary Moore was just here, i missed meeting this legend WORST LUNCH BREAK EVER. RIP Gary you were awesome.
Hi Mike, I had a part time job at Chandler Guitars in London, Kew Gardens, and met Gary quite a few times. What a awesome player and lovely guy. However, what he really liked talking about was Computer Games and Celestion Vintage 30 speakers. He loved those speakers and was convinced that if Hendrix would have gotten an chance to try them, he would have loved them too.
No, it can happen. My ex-keyboard player from 2 bands quit a restaurant job in Lansdown, Bath, England on the Friday. Saturday Joni Mitchell came in and jammed ALL NIGHT. He was gutted.
I found out about Gary at around the same time, someone gave me a copy cd their brother had done and wow, was I hooked, fabulous does not describe this man's ability, absolute magic in my eyes, and loved this interview.
GM was the all-time great guitar maestro, and yet never received one-one-100th the credit he deserved. Nobody makes a song his as did Gary. Whether speed-strumming fast rock or slow-playing soulful blues tunes, his tone was perfectly pure; and he blessed us with so many styles you can tag him with any type. He was indeed all of them. He was a master at mixing other genres into songs, and that is what made those songs his. Excellent writer and composer, too. It will be a while before there is another one like him. He is missed!
I’ve never seen anyone replicate his vibrato, ever. It’s his signature and one of the main components of his sound. I once read him say he would crank his Marshall in his hallway (he was already an accomplished player) and practice nothing but vibrato for an hour straight for months. It was well worth it, it appears. Steve vai also recommends 1 month of vibrato one hour a day.
Kind of a bb king vibrato.. Somewhere is an old lesson video where King explains his vibrato, highlights the point.. Maybe something fun for you to explore
For the benefit of all us home players... That obsessive way of practicing is not necessary to get that vibrato. That's not the only way to achieve that goal. You don't have to spend hours of doing just bends in an unmusical manner for a month if, instead, you spread all that bending practice out over a longer duration of time (like a couple years). If you improvise your own soloing over your favorite albums for several years, that vibrato comes naturally (assuming that you play with vibrato on many of the notes you play during all that wood-shedding). Imitating someone else's technique (or song) to the precise detail is the easy part. Coming up with your own stuff and writing songs that people want to hear is where the real art comes in. I can cover and replicate most things on my guitar (including Gary's vibrato), but that doesn't mean that I am any good. It just means that I can copy the real artists. Now, if I were to write a good original song that people want to hear, that would mean that I was good. ;)
@@eisenkeith said "Jackpot ua-cam.com/video/a4FK0Quoyng/v-deo.html bb king vibrato" Wow. That is a REALLY difficult way to do vibrato. Doing vibrato by taking your thumb OFF the neck is damn near impossible to get accurate because your hand in not anchored in one static position. Everything is floating... your arm, your hand- everything. And I think you'd have to be sitting down ALWAYS to ever get it right. You guys don't have to do it in this pretty uncommon way that BB learned to do it. Most players have a bit of force going through their thumb that is pressed against the top side of the neck, stabilizing their hand. For me, it is actually the part under the knuckle of the thumb that is right on the edge of the fretboard and neck.

One of the absolute best. Such emotive playing - and could mix it up with some classy fast runs that still fitted with the overall feel for the songs. Great interview

It always was so easy to overlook his mad singing skills because of his otherworldly guitar skills. Circa 9:30 into the video, Gary is like "excuse me while I exit this slow piece @16 million miles an hour ..." Can't forget him easily

Note for others: if doofus here had any reading comprehension skills...he might have figured out that Jimi is my all time fav...and that if anyone finds or has seen those videos of Gary playing Jimi's tunes...they might agree.
+Dave Holland And of course Clapton was renowned for his clean living during this period. Also, you really need to locate the full stop key on your keyboard. At least you could divide your deranged ramble up into sentences.
I just started playing guitar, and he is my idol in a sorts.
I’ve seen many top guitarists like Green, Clapton, Beck, Townsend, Page, Berry, Richards, Taylor and hundreds more. I only saw Gary once and he was pretty much out there if not better than most.
High praise indeed. Just something about Peter Green in his pomp for me personally is my favourite.
One of the greatest guitar players so melodic and so precise. he put so much emotion into his playing! RIP Gary!
What a humble guy. One of the greatest guitarists ever and sadly missed. Taken too young
One of the absolute best. Such emotive playing - and could mix it up with some classy fast runs that still fitted with the overall feel for the songs. Great interview
so much soul, heart, honesty and fire!!!...thank you Gary Moore..you gave us more than anyone could ever have asked for!!!!
Beautiful haunting song, Midnight Blues.
I have a handful of favorite guitar heros ....but I always keep coming back to Gary...he is SO Sadly missed
Gary had magic in his hands, don't know what it is but I am mesmerised by his playing.
I shook his hand and I swear I was a ten times better guitar player after.
Midnight blues is still my favorite of his songs 🎵 💙
For me he was the Best guitar player of the whole world no one Is close to him God bless him Rip
The mere fact that he’s so humble speaks volumes
Gary Moore
One of the greatest of our time he put so much heart and Soul in is playing A true Master his Spirit and Music will always Live on and inspire us All. Gone but always remembered ❤🎸🙏
Saw him only one time live at the fender anniversary concert at Wembley Arena, he captured the night with his performance. Blew me and every one else away with his passionate playing and incredible strat tone.

Gary Moore was my teachers Hero Al Pitrelli (now Transiberian Orchestra) ,that's how I got introduced to Gary Moores work .I hears Corridoores of Power and DONT TAKE ME FOR A LOSER and I was SOLD Enormous Al and Gary are both very emotionally expressive and Masters at their trade ....
Gary R.I.P....and thank you for all you have contributed to the industry...
Thanks for uploading this saycanalla. It goes without saying that GM is one of the greatest blues guitarists ever. I love the fact that he is entirely self taught. However, I think one should not overlook the fact that he is also a brilliant blues vocalist.
Introduced to his music when I was 7yrs old by my ballistic guitar playing father.
Awesome just awesome.
RIP Mr Moore
He left a huge hole in my life. His bends make me weep.
Great to see and hear Gary sitting with Greeny. A very special man with a very special guitar.
It always was so easy to overlook his mad singing skills because of his otherworldly guitar skills.
Circa 9:30 into the video, Gary is like "excuse me while I exit this slow piece @16 million miles an hour ..."
Can't forget him easily
I always come back to this interview every once in awhile, It’s so peaceful and laid back, I like to relax to the calmness that the interview gives off.
You’re the reason I picked up guitar again.
Rest easy Gary.
I’ve never heard, and will never hear for sure, a better or much beautiful Tone than what This MASTER and LEGEND achieved on Greeny and Stripe, not mentioning how he did a strat sound so fat and Lespaulnessy. I Miss you Gary.
