    Epiphone has really stepped up their quality lately. All the "Inspired by Gibson" guitars are actually really good.

    I had 2 of the 2021 Epi Slash AFDs. Both were awesome guitars. Just surprisingly good. And the pickups on the AFD reminded me of '80s DiMarzios. They sounded great and I wouldn't recommend replacing them. Great bang for the buck. I sold them to finance a higher end purchase. I'd buy another without question.

    I have to say, I purchased this Epiphone, at a new, fantastic GC price, of $499!! And the most surprising feature, is the resonance of this instrument, unplugged! My semi-hollows don’t come close to the sound this guitar has, just sitting on the couch! I’m excited to see how it performs at a show…And, I will be playing it clean, 80% of the night! Cheers!

    I played on the Epiphone LP Slash guitar and also on the Epiphone LP custom pro in Koa. Bought the custom pro for the splitable pick ups, phase inverter pod, and the better tuners. The Epiphone custom pro sounds incredible through my Boss Katana 50 watt modeling amp...

    Hey good review. I bought the Goldtop version a while back and did t really like the pickups. LOVED the look and feel of the Guitar though. I will never understand why Epiphone didn’t put Slash pickups in this line. Makes no sense. Charge a few dollars more but the guitar would have been a huge seller. I pulled out the quick connect wiring and replaced it all with 50s style wiring and a set of Gibson USA Burstbuckers 2 and 3 I had. WORLD of difference. The case is beautiful and the guitar is now one of my main guitars.

      In hindsight, would it have been better to buy the Epi 1959 Standard LP? I'm looking at the '59 and the Slash....leaning toward the '59 for the specs.

    Great tones and playing John and a great fair and objective review. The guitar and it's tone speak for it's self but I guess you'd expect that for high end guitar. Epiphone are just knocking it outpatk sure they cost more but you're getting upgrades and still incredible value.
    This series got a unfair reception mainly from trolls who never picked one up. The biggest complaint was from use of custom probucker pickups. Epiphone has a great video where probucker pickups fooled even the most snobby cork sniffers. The Joe bonmassa black beauty also had custom probucker pickups and look at the reviews that got no wonder they go for such crazy money these days.
    The lesson hear is Epiphone isn't the Epiphone of old. I'm glad to see Epiphone name getting the respect it deserves.

  • @DrJeebles
    @DrJeebles Рік тому

    What do you think of those Custom Probuckers? How do they compare with the Probucker 2 and 3 that come in most of the other Epiphones? I guess you will get to that with the review of the Standard, but I'm very curious about being in the room with those side by side and having both guitars in your hand. $350 extra is a lot on a guitar at that price point, but I guess you're getting the hardshell case, the electronics and the great color...

    • @SionynJones
      @SionynJones Рік тому +1

      Most of the epiphone come with upgraded electronics especially the standard and high end line.
      The probuckers in this guitar are in unique to this guitar they aren't your typical probuckers which are essentially a epiphone take on a PAF pickup (and a good one at that). The Gibson one also come with custom pickups.
      The extra cost come from the hardcase custom pickups and paint job and artist endorsement.
      You're getting a lot of value.

    • @ahoneyman
      @ahoneyman Рік тому

      They're a bit of a waste really. They have a little more upper end chime than the standard Probuckers but not much. It seems like they swapped a magnet called it "Custom" and sent it. I'd rather they knocked $75 off, put in the standard pickups, and let buyers use that money to modify it as they see fit. They could add $75 and put the real deal Duncans in there. Those pickups have value.

    My first Tele was an Affinity. Are the classic vibe series that much better? My Affinity was great and built my live for the telecaster. I do have a Custom Shop one now but still have my Affinity. Just wondered if the classic vibe is worth the extra bit of money.

    • @ZacksRockingLifestyle
      @ZacksRockingLifestyle Рік тому

      I can’t speak 100% to the CV tele, but I’ve had a CV 60s strat for a few years, I’ve got a 97 California series USA tele, and I’ve played some Squier affinity guitars. If you’re happy with your affinity, and you have a custom shop Tele, you’re probably not missing out by not having a CV Tele. Iirc, CV models are just slightly higher quality parts (still not as good as replacement parts) and gloss necks.

    Hey
    The epiphone standard pro has that pro bucker 3 bridge uneven wind coil i believe with alnico 2 magnets
    This has also alnico 2 “ custom pro “ bridge pick up
    Do you know how similar this bridge custom pro and the pro bucker 3 pick up are in terms of sound?
    Im torn between a standard pro or this slash version
    Mostly heavy metal
    What would you recommend

    I like the looks of the Slash Epiphone Les Paul, however even though it has a solid maple cap,it still has flamed Veneer. I'd rather have a solid 2A top--while these Epis may sound great ....because of the veneer,no sweetning of tone,and a Zero increase in sustain . This is just one of my how toos tellin somebody to leave.ha ha ha!!

      The whole purpose is to cover all capability of tone .... Anybody can pick any type of guitar weather it be a strat , telle or LP and would be able to play GnR .... When selling something like this you want to make the instrument cover every genre of music to make it appealing for all walks of like...... Bc it doesn't take a GnR only fan to appreciate a instrument like this for all walks of life not just Slash

    • @TheKapplebee

      @@shepp7988 the point is to get subs and affiliate money. The performance mix was not good and it didn't show what it can do for the people wanting the slash in either video. @SionynJones Рік тому +1

      True but I wouldn't just discount a high end Epiphone either. Pawn shop guitars come with issues too just like any guitar including Gibson.
      That's just the nature of hand made things. Good thing most shops have good return policies.

    • @automatoncollectives7237

      That’s nonsense. Low end Gibsons aren’t exactly anything to write home about. You make it sound like the low end Gibsons are as good as their high end instruments, which simply isn’t the case. For example, the Tribute is trash. Try using critical thought. Not all Epiphones or Gibsons are the same.

      Problem is rosewood isn't sustainable over logged and Illegal logging. It still has very high demand especially china which is why Epiphone were still able to produce rosewood fretboard guitars and Gibson weren't during the CITES era.
      Rosewood is a canopy tropical rainforest tree which grow very slowly. So more more ecological to use alternatives. Laurel is about the best alternative we have to rosewood. It's used across the board from cheep to high end guitars.
