"Don't be Ragu" is going to be stamped on every single writing journal of mine from here on out
Spoke to my soul.
watching this video led me to a good three hours session of character building, and I hadn't even watched half of it yet. Merci beaucoup!
Glad it helped!
I also want Mercy Bee cups
As a culinary student/writer, this speaks to me deeply.
I freakin love this. I am instantly adopting this metaphor. I'm already thinking about how the plot of my last script is chicken nuggets and the main character is honey mustard lol.
Great video. I tend to think of research in writing like an iceberg. So much of what I do research will never end up in the book because no one needs to read 3 pages on wheat life cycles, but the sense that my character *knows* the wheat life cycle with tidbits here and there which may only be a tiny percentage is so important to make it feel real.
I feel this. One of the reasons I like to do a bunch of research and planning up front is to keep myself from getting tripped up. Before I started doing that, every time I had a research based question, it would interrupt my writing and make it harder to get words on the page.
I searched for a camfire review, accidentally clicked on this then stayed, because the advice is fire.
This video has inspired me to try sauce, thank you Eli
I've struggled with writing characters that incorporate stuff I don't have much experience with and don't know where to begin. Now I do. Thanks for the video!
very nice video, i have the same olive oil. going to use some of the olive oil in the novel i am writing
tried that, you'll get soggy pages :(
Ok, that just made me hungry. lol And now I want some homemade pasta sauce!
Do it. It's 100% worth it
Yo this is rad
So cool! Love this!
I'm going to put a link to this video on the video I'm putting out on Thursday all about character building, this is some good stuff.
Thanks! Can't wait to see it 🙂
Amazing video. This is probably the best use of analogy in under 10 mins to describe everything I've learned about character creation the past 2 decades. I applaud you good sir, kudos to you and your sharp wit! P.S. Just bought Campfire Pro because I loved the video, which led me to look up your app. Amazing piece of software. Cheers!
How does this only have 5 likes?
These videos are so, so good
Thanks!
Oh yea, gimme that sauce boss.
This was a great video! I love that analogy! Character's can be so complex and dimensional if we give them the chance! You've earned a subscriber!
Glad you enjoyed the video! I was pretty proud of the analogy (and the sauce which was delicious)
sauce jar creds ^_^
Loved this video! Great choice to use "sauce" as a metaphor for characters... Thank you!
CIAO IM PASQUALE. WELCOME TO MY KITCHEN
My favorite sauce is Buffalo Sauce. ;)
As it should be 🙏
This has made me hungry.
The actual point of this video is to get people cooking 🍝
@@AroundTheCampfire I knew it! lol
And now I'm hungry
Okay so here's what you wanna do: Saute some pancetta in your saucepot until all the fat is rendered out. Remove pancetta bits and leave rendered fat. Saute up some onions and mushrooms in the pancetta fat with a little extra olive oil. Adding a little salt will help the mushrooms and onions release their liquids and saute faster. Once your veggies are nice and soft, clear some space in the center of the pot. In the empty space, put some tomato paste (~1 tbsp), red chili flake, 4 crushed cloves of garlic, and a healthy squeeze of anchovy paste (or 2 chovies, this won't make the sauce fishy, don't worry). Stir that around and let it cook for a minute before stirring the glob of paste into the veggies and adding the pancetta back. Let that saute for another minute. You can add dry spices here like oregano, basil. Whatever you want. Now add two large cans of San Marzano tomatoes and one can of water. I blend my tomatoes before adding, but you don't have to if you like it chunky. Add some salt and ~2 tbsp of sugar to the sauce and let it simmer for ~1.5 - 2 hours. I like to melt a couple tablespoons of butter in towards the end, and then BOOM. SAUCE. I've been making a lot of pizzas with this sauce during the quarantine. 10/10 recommend.
Great writing tips, but as an italian you gave me an ulcer xD
Lolz You were hungry when you came up with the script for this, weren't you...
Sometimes you gotta find a way to finagle making half a gallon of delicious sauce into your UA-cam scripts 🤷♀️
You're a freaking strange guy, but this is awesome! :D Thanks for this metaphor, staying in my head.
I should have researched about storytelling, character developement and things like that, before i had half of my book done... :'D
a year passed since than and now i am done. Not sure, what it is :D
Its like a white wine with peach-taste, combined with spicy soljanka and 80%chokolate as dessert. Not bad, but strange. i think.. maby.
Why am I so hungry now?
Non-Social does not mean Anti-Social... /sigh
Great work btw.
Thanks! Sorry if I got the definition wrong. What's the distinction?
@@AroundTheCampfire anti-social is cruelty and criminal tendencies, where non-social, or asocial, is distant and introverted.
Thanks for engaging.
Following Cliches doesn't make a character bland
I think he means following JUST the clichés without adding anything different or interesting can make bland characters.
Please reduce the background music
I've reduced the background music level in recent videos. Check out the newest one and see if you think the background music is still too loud: ua-cam.com/video/opaVjyrLl9U/v-deo.html
Prego is superior to Ragu
I am traumatized by the countless meals growing up that were just ragu, spaghetti, and hamburger meat. Never again.
Characters are sus?
