I'm not sure he can fix this mid season. I like the idea of bringing his hands away from his body more.

He’s thinking too much because he’s been criticized over and over by fans like me for being too impulsive. Now, he’s behind on swings, despite no change in power or bat speed. He’s hesitating, which is why people think he’s late and is fouling off middle middle. But when he can track balls that he can get behind and load the power, it’s amazing. The issue is that vision is inconsistent. So you either tell him to play on instinct and let him strike out or you continue this play and hits ground outs or at best, walks.

He’s a smart guy. He will eventually figure it out in his career. He was swing happy before, now he’s learning how to draw walks when you don’t want to swing. Things will click eventually.

Yah i think we have to drastically change our expectations for Julio. He is just way way to volatile to build a line up around. He is as good of an ambassador for mariners baseball that you could ask for, but on the field; he is a fringe all-star with the ability to play way above his head but consistently plays way below.

He meant "slowed it down" as in he didn't rush the at-bat, not his swing speed. He let pitches come to him and he got a walk instead of trying to force the issue and getting K'd

He's better off hitting at 3 or 6th in lineup .....

Imagine if Julio was in NYC playing? He would be boo'd out of the city. If you can't hang in Seattle then you can't fix it in ANY major big market MLB City. He exposed himself this year BADLY. We are HALF WAY THROUGH the season. This is FAR worse than a slump.

The problem was paying him like an MVP caliber player after only one season. Mentally he "made it" then declined over the next 2 seasons. Most great players have to wait 5-10 years to get that payday. The Mariners paying him big prematurely caused him to lose that hunger for a big deal cause it was a done deal already.

He appears to swing in a downward path most of the time. Can’t pull with lift that way, but he hits glancing blows to right field. Also swinging way to hard, as in out of control somewhat.

Why can't we just agree he is not the superstar the media has made him to be? He is a great player no doubt, but he is not ronald acuna or soto

We need to stop calling him "great", because he's not the players you mentioned and the ones mentioned in this clip. THOSE players are "great", and the reality is Julio isn't those guys, and as such, isn't "great". He'd probably be less frustrating to watch if we didn't expect greatness and saw him for the player he actually is instead of what people want him to be.

It's really high time people start telling the truth about #44.
Some people are fooled into thinking he's a star because of what he did last August.
Some people are fooled into thinking he's not even a major league caliber player because of what he's done the past 2 Junes.
What kind of player has he been the rest of the time?
I'm going to beat this drum until people start listening. He's a lesser version of Mike Cameron; even wears the same number. Cameron was a good player who had the unenviable task of trying to fill the large shoes of some feller named Griffey. Cameron was a 3 time Gold Glove CF. He was normally good for 20-25 HRs and hit 30 HR one season. He was normally good for 25+ stolen bases. He hit for decent average. He was prone to strike out a lot and led the league in strikeouts one year.
ALL of that sounds exactly like I'm describing Julio Rodriguez. The only difference is Cameron actually knew how to draw walks and hit sacrifice flies. Julio's lack of plate discipline is the main reason why I say he is a lesser version of Cameron; otherwise the similarities are quite obvious. *Maybe* Julio would have a little better plate discipline if he was surrounded by the kind of guys Cameron was (Ichiro, Boone, Olerud, Edgar, etc.) instead of feeling like he has to try to carry the gaggle of whiff monsters the Mariners parade to the plate now. 🤔
Like Cameron, Julio is a solid player, but he's not a star any smart baseball person would build their entire team and line up around. He's not a star just because he might be the best position player in a group of below average position players.
I think everyone would be better off if we saw Julio for what he really is and not what we want him to be. I think a lot of the fan frustration is from people who expect Julio to be a star, when the obvious reality is that he isn't. It would also benefit the team to come to grips with that reality, especially if they actually care about winning anything that matters.

Agree with the premise. Trade for Vlad. Slot him in the 4 hole. And, Rodriguez’s average goes up 20-30 points. You’re welcome.

Ok, Julio was great the first two years. He declined substantially last year especially early. This year he has fallen off the planet. Whatever the Mariners are doing , STOP. He’s getting worse. You could have just left him alone and he might be better than he is now.
