For those following along with this tutorial; if your cube keeps exploding after you've enabled, "start deactivated," make sure you check that the original cube that you hide does not have a rigid body effect. I don't know when I added rigid body to it but it took me about 30 minutes to figure out that my cube was exploding and wouldn't start deactivated because of that problem. Hope this helps!
@@SurfacedStudio I am having same problem-but my original cube did NOT have any rigid body attached. I’m in 2.92. It seems the Start Deactivated isn’t having any effect. I’ve read multiple threads- tried changing the Collision shape type, deleting Scene: Rigid Body cache. My different attempts yield different results, from the cube collapsing in place to exploding, so the various factors do have an effect, and the simulation is responsive, I just can’t get it to start deactivated... Great tutorials btw- thanks!
objectively the funniest blender tutorial i have done. Going to check out more of your videos thanks! I actually released my keyframe inside my cube or about a quarter of the way in. I also made my cube smaller. It gave a nice realistic look like once it got to far in it lost all its momentum and then kind of stumbles the rest of the way through as it falls apart.
Fantastic stuff, new to the blender scene and have already dumped a full days worth of time learning all of the simulations. This is so satisfying and Helpful!
i leave some extra crap in there like camera projectors on seperate scene, sunlamp, default planes and cubes with a prototype texture myself ... u should add more default stuff really :)

Thanks for that mate. I tried looking for a way to destroy an objects tutorial around 10 months ago when I first started using blender, but with no really luck. I did try, but the results were not impressive. However, I decided to try again and this tutorial is very easy to understand, and my results this time is 10000% better and more realistic. Thanks.

@@brightgarinson3099, I just saw it done in Nuke, with a Houdini example (with the edges broken too, not just flat like legos like here, remembering this is an introductory tut), so it can be done in Resolve/Fusion or Ae. I'm pretty sure he literally penned in a mask (e.g., in Ae) and done...if you don't care about color correction, matching or grading. Look at some compositing Ae tuts or Blackmagic Resolve tuts (they have a free version, and Resolve kicks Ae/Pr's butts, imo). I looked at Nuke, because it's the one professionals in the industry use most often, so I'm gonna still use Resolve. I'm a rebel without a clue.
when i select deactivation/start deactivated my objects still move from the start. how do i fix this issue? if its even with the ground plane it falls. if i select the object above the ground it "explodes" upward
I have. I was trying to use a plane that I had extruded and it didn’t work. But when I did it with a cube it worked fine. So I figured it out. Thank you! Great tutorial btw

Wonderful tutorial! I just have one small question (unless the answer is too complex). My final render of this quick scenes displays the cracks before it has been smashed or touched at all (frame 1). Is there a way to apply these cell fractures without allowing them to be visible before the destruction?

Hey bro, that's a fantastic. But please can you make a tutorial involving modeling a building wall, texturing as well as uv unwrap it then destroyed it. From start to finish.
The truth is I become everything I am today be it editing, vfx in after effects and the little I know so far in 3d world through your helping and comprehensive tutorial. I owed you appreciation.
Two questions: 1) Can you make an animation like this in reverse where the chunks form into a mesh? 2) Can you make this a custom animation and export it to unreal engine?
I'm not sure about the second part (I'm also trying to figure that one out) but for the first part, select your fragments then object - rigid body - bake to keyframes. That'll let you store the animation and play it in reverse.
a bit late but if your making it into a short clip all you would need to do is move the end to the beginning so the frame starts crumbled and builds to become full
For anyone struggling with Blender re-calculating anytime You adjust anything (even just changing the material or adding the sun). Go to the *rigid body world* setting in *scene properties* and click *bake all dynamics*! Anyway, thanks for the tutorial. Had a lot of fun following it and causing some digital mayhem of my own 😈

This tutorial was absolutely amazing! I am currently taking a Physics course, so I actually understand the mathematical side/principles of this animation. I will definitely see about trying this out sometime soon. It was completely awesome! One thing I learned (I feel so stupid) was that I can slide keyframes on the timeline manually. I love this! I was always wondering where I could get good physics simulations and it turns out I already had the app!
Blender isn't perfect when it comes to physics, but it's pretty great for a lot of stuff - and it's free :D

The cracks is actually visible before collision , is their any method that cracks only visible befor collision then cube get distruct
You can animate the visibility of the original cube and the fragments to only show the broken cube on impact :) That's what I did for the wall

The truth is I become everything I am today be it editing, vfx in after effects and the little I know so far in 3d world through your helping and comprehensive tutorial. I owed you appreciation.
Two questions:
1) Can you make an animation like this in reverse where the chunks form into a mesh?
2) Can you make this a custom animation and export it to unreal engine?
I'm not sure about the second part (I'm also trying to figure that one out) but for the first part, select your fragments then object - rigid body - bake to keyframes. That'll let you store the animation and play it in reverse.
a bit late but if your making it into a short clip all you would need to do is move the end to the beginning so the frame starts crumbled and builds to become full

For anyone struggling with Blender re-calculating anytime You adjust anything (even just changing the material or adding the sun).
Go to the *rigid body world* setting in *scene properties* and click *bake all dynamics*!

This tutorial was absolutely amazing! I am currently taking a Physics course, so I actually understand the mathematical side/principles of this animation. I will definitely see about trying this out sometime soon. It was completely awesome! One thing I learned (I feel so stupid) was that I can slide keyframes on the timeline manually. For some reason I didn't know that! Lol
