You should build a guitar out of used guitar picks, like hundreds of them. Imagine the history and 'guitar playing energy' that would be in that guitar!
If he does make a guitar out of dark matter, it better be a 30 string djent guitar. Only such a beast would be deserving of being made out of such material.
Every electric guitar I've ever seen isn't exactly the same as the last one I saw. There's many different designs. Flying V. Inverted Flying V. Les Paul. Strat. Tele. PRS. Etc.... You mean ever strat looks like every other strat? 🤷🏻♂️ Yea. It's called brand recognition. I can name 10 random bands right now and would bet than at least half of the lead guitarists use a guitar unlike anyone else of the 10 bands I named.
You also understand that the basic shape you see on an electric guitar is done for function over form, correct? Those cutouts around the neck are there for a specific reason. How did they get that shape? They took your standard guitar shape and made cutouts around the neck to allow use of the lower frets. As I said, that, design is a result of function over form.
@@J__C__ negative. Obviously, cutaways are to reach frets and obviously you need some basic shape and weight that balances well in the musician's hands and provides a good amount of solid structure for the sound to resonate off of (though far less necessary than on an acoustic, since the pickups do the majority of sound transfer) but from there the possibilities are endless. Guitars don't have to have that distinctive curve that goes from a large oval to smaller curves at the top with a kind of "hourglass" feel. It's done because it's pleasing to the eye, because it resembles a voluptuous woman, same as why many vases have a similar curvature to them. And 99% of people who do the "I made a whole guitar out of unusual objects" videos use the same tired shape that 90% of all guitars are an almost traceable template of.
I know it's been a year and a half since this was released but you know what I like most about your videos? You are reflecting on the techniques you used, on the mistakes you've made and you're never only showcasing what you did without any commentary. Every single one of your builds is unique and a piece of art and even though they are unique pieces of art it's important to always take a step back, acknowledge the work you did and also reflect on it. Thank you for being a relatable artist and creator! Also building something as technically delicate as a guitar is hard enough using premade parts and you just built them from scratch using materials that are "not meant to be used for that" - while people are still arguing about whether or not tone wood is a thing in electrical guitars - and in the end every one of your builds sounds fantastic! So thank you for being you and sharing what you love doing!

A guitar made out of coffee... I use pressed coffee in my stove - you can buy them at the hardware store. Makes the living room at night smell nice and cosy.
The epoxy and harder would cost a good $40-$50, and then add on the same for the high quality coloured paper, same again for the bridge, $100-$300 for pickups, then $100-$300 dollars for the neck, $5 strings, and you'd probably be as well getting a used MIM tele or strat. It's not really an option for someone on a budget, especially when you consider what else they could get that would maintain most of its used market value if you buy in mint condition and keep in mint condition.
It is a hilarious marketing ploy, why would electric guitar's tone be based on the wood it is built with. It has no sound box, nothing resonates off it without amplification, the entire sound of the instrument is artificially produced.

As an artisan, or someone who creates something you will ALWAYS find that you are not 100% happy with your creations. You spend a LOT of time on each piece, you know it better than anyone else, you know where you struggled with a few small issues, and everytime you look at it your eye will automatically be drawn to it. What other people will never see or discover on your guitar for a lifetime, you will see immediately. I call it "The curse of the maker", I suffer from it myself. But it is not a bad thing, it drives us to learn from our mistakes and next time so it better......recently had to relearn the "Measure twice cut once rule" on a component I already put a few hours of work into 😂 Love the look of the paper micarta!
This is amazing! When I saw you stacking the paper I thought "Oh no, there's a gap between the sheets!" but in the end, these white lines looked really good. Now I kinda want an electrical violin like this, it sure would look good too.
The fingerboard still wood, that's what gives the character of a guitar, the body only is the resonator, but the change of tone is not much. There a little differences between rosewood and mapple but really the most significant change of tone is in the pickups and the bar (in a strat type)
@@roadsportuk yeah, but there's moreso a point of diminishing returns the higher/denser you go, plus pickup quality and type can totally cancel out tone wood's advantages, along with distortion, effects, or the use of P90 pickups. I mean, the Fender Stratocaster and StarCaster are the same guitar except the Starcaster is hollow, made of cheaper wood, but are similar in sound and quality
@@barakahfactor "just wood" more like treated and cut wood. Here there's a lot more waste than by making a guitar just from plain wood. Just think of the companies who throw paper everytime it's not cut perfectly or there's a little scratch.
that is gorgeous! Awesome job! I liked the critical roundup/review at the end too. that is how you learn and how we learn from you. I am SO going to make my first electric guitar.
When dealing with broken screws I usually prefer to drill them out, then put a dowel in there, reglue, put some matching finish on it and redrill the hole. It won’t always look perfect, but at least you’ll keep your bridge position. Amazing job, I love how you showed every mistake. We all learn and make mistakes, but it’s better to learn now than later. I sometimes laugh out loud at myself for being on autopilot and there are days like today I wanted to scream at myself in frustration. Fixing your own mistakes is an excellent skill and it shows your strive to perfection. Great end product
Honestly amazingly good looking guitar Burls, I gotta say the most recent ones you did with the ocean plastic and the one you did in the woods are probably the most awesome ones I keep coming back to, as well as this one. Please keep the awesome work up!

I would drop a like but I'm not gonna ruin that 69

As an artisan, or someone who creates something you will ALWAYS find that you are not 100% happy with your creations.
You spend a LOT of time on each piece, you know it better than anyone else, you know where you struggled with a few small issues, and everytime you look at it your eye will automatically be drawn to it. What other people will never see or discover on your guitar for a lifetime, you will see immediately.
I call it "The curse of the maker", I suffer from it myself. But it is not a bad thing, it drives us to learn from our mistakes and next time so it better......recently had to relearn the "Measure twice cut once rule" on a component I already put a few hours of work into 😂
Love the look of the paper micarta!
8:42 "Dont Screw Up"
8:43 " I screwed up"
This is amazing! When I saw you stacking the paper I thought "Oh no, there's a gap between the sheets!" but in the end, these white lines looked really good. Now I kinda want an electrical violin like this, it sure would look good too.
"tonewood believers hate this guy"
Paper is made of wood,so it's "Tonepaper".
@@Slicklickz Well to be honest paper is treated with chemicals, so paper isn't 100% made of wood. But it's not that far from 100%.
Been binge watching these builds you have an awesome talent!
When you realize paper is just wood
I was just about to comment this XD
Sure
Wait... Now you've got me thinking
I've been conditioned to not waste paper. When I saw this I thought "what a waste of paper!".
Oh yeah, paper is just wood.
@@barakahfactor "just wood" more like treated and cut wood. Here there's a lot more waste than by making a guitar just from plain wood.
Just think of the companies who throw paper everytime it's not cut perfectly or there's a little scratch.
Dude, you really should start a business, you've got TALENT
I for one would buy that guitar in a heartbeat, it's a masterpiece!
“That’s pretty much it, just don’t screw up.”
“I screwed up.”
that is gorgeous! Awesome job! I liked the critical roundup/review at the end too. that is how you learn and how we learn from you.
I am SO going to make my first electric guitar.
Oneday i'll make my own guitar from my thesis..

She’s definitely one of the most beautiful Guitars you’ve build 👌 Thank you for sharing 🙏🏼😊
So what do you do for a living
Burls Art: I make guitars out of things Guitars shouldn’t be made out of
So you're saying that guitars shouldn't be made out of paper, pencils or candy?
Nino I’m saying no one knew they should until Burls did
They shouldn't normally be made of those things. These are art guitars.
Paper is from wood.So

13:38 did you just flip me off?
Do you know the name of that song?
I like it !
@@ernestovergara.255 it says in the description that the song/rifff is just improv/made up
FrozenFriedChicken Oh, it’s true.
Thank you so much, and I’m sorry, I had not seen it.
Great end product
the guitar playing at the end had a really nice melody
13:37 oh man, that song...
“october 25th is gonna be the biggest you tuber collab of all time, we’re gonna plant 20 million trees!”
burlsart: *kills trees on october 25th*
Honestly amazingly good looking guitar Burls, I gotta say the most recent ones you did with the ocean plastic and the one you did in the woods are probably the most awesome ones I keep coming back to, as well as this one. Please keep the awesome work up!
This brings a whole new meaning to Paper Jamz
This guitar needs to be in the hands of the lead guitarist for this (not yet existing) "Paper Jams" group.
Lol...love it...."ppr jmz"...haha. Too funny!
