    • @occamraiser
      @occamraiser 7 місяців тому +1

      Scotland has no particular claim to pipes or drums. Drums are about 250,000 years old and pipes have a far older heritage in european countries....and ofc Cumbria and Ireland. So while scottish nationalism has wrapped itself in plaid and bagpipes it is not really novel or uniquely scottish, beyond the particular clan based cloth patterns, which are pretty uniquely scottish. Although on further consideration - what is scottish? Pictish? Norwegian? Celtic? Scotland is no less a mongrel race than English. All Scottish nationalists seem to have completely in common is a centuries old persecution complex, even after Scotland's royal family took over England!

    • @heatherjeal
      @heatherjeal 6 місяців тому +1

      I don't have any Scots blood that I know of, but the pipes have called to me since I was a toddler, and first heard them on a record at my Aunt Nancy's. I made her play it for me every time we went to visit. And any parade that doesn't have a pure band, IMHO, is not worthy of the name.

      @@davidarbogast37 USUALLY perhaps but not ALWAYS.. If something happens 10% of the time vs 90% that means even if it is 10 times more likely (as in using 'Native Americans' as the term) it also means that one in ten WILL happen as well.
      I myself was accused for using 'UC Berkeley' in an online statement (I was born and raised in the UK, NOT California) and without any evidence was accused of lying because 'Californians don't speak of it that way.'. You and others are guessing and it means nothing. Maybe it is what you GUESS maybe it is a Native American woman talking generally and using the colloquial expression 'Indians' to be more understandable to others. Who knows?
      Why not just address the points made by this person in service to the discussion instead of avoiding what matters and playing moralizing 'gotcha' based on nothing but guesses. It is one thing with Warren as she grabs for power with proven lies and quite another here. We already live in an age of fear, suspicions and BS why add to this!

    When I was in infants school every year we would have a school fete and the Scottish bagpipes band would march the children in fancy dress, including me into the school field. As soon as the pipes started playing I felt the music go into my heart and I cried every time through infants and junior schools. The teachers never understood it and neither did I at the time, it was just a rush of overwhelming emotion, that was over 40 years ago!. I was in my 2O’s when I found out that my ancestors are Scottish. Your ancestors are always with you and I am proud of my Scottish history and name Barber. I have yet to visit Scotland, I know I will visit one day. Thank you for this uplifting music 🙏🏻🙂
