My grandfather told me that his home town, Tilburg in the Netherlands, was liberated by the Scottish. The first thing they heard in November 1944 was a bagpipes in the far distance a very soft humming sound that came nearer. I walked the West Highland Way and the Great Glen Way in Winter (250km), slept in my tent. It was such an intense experience. All the people i met on my way were so nice, the nature is just stunning. Since this experience, i feel connected to this beautiful country.

Greetings from Belgium. About half a mile from where I live, a group plays bagpipes once a week in the evening. Though I suffer from hearing loss, I still can hear them play from that distance. Amazing instrument.
For me this is the finest expression of any marching military force in the world. It just doesn't come any better than this in terms of spectacle and sheer heart and emotion....maybe the Scottish people take this for granted?...you shouldn't, this is very very special. Big love to Scotland from starchy old England.
@@jenniferayers5354 The response of the Scottish people here on this video suggest you absolutely take this for granted. There is zero reaction from the people watching. No passion. No response. Nothing. They may as well have been watching a funeral procession.
This beautiful sound has a universal draw. It calls all mankind to stand to attention in celebration of humanity, freedom and all that is worth cherishing. I am not Scottish and yet somehow this music is my beacon.
Im an English ex service man, my Dad was an English ex service yet we both absolutely adore the pipes and m y Dad was piped out at his funeral . Respect to Scotland ,Ireland and Wales
My grandfather introduced me to this kind of music. He passed away on the 11th… this music will hold a special place in my heart, and I have him to thank for that :)
My grandfather was a drummer in a pipe band when I was a kid and I remember going to Dunblane in the 80's and watching him and listening to him playing it was amazing I still love listening to the music to this day it takes me back to my childhood, oh they were the days I wish to go back and see it all again
The same, and I'm 10th generation Acadian (US French) - but my ancestors' (Browne) blood stirs strongly on hearing the pipes and drums. It's uncommon to see a military or police funeral in a major US city without pipes to see the departed home.
Love these Pipe and Drum marches. I came across them by accident, I was in Manchester once and I heard this volume coming down the road and it sounded awesome and magical, gave me goose bumps. Then they came into view and I watched spellbound. I love the Scots and their history. This is something they have they should be proud of.
My wonderful grandmother was Scottish (American). She was not to be trifled with and we all feared and adored her. God bless her beautiful generous and very proud soul. I am who I am today because of her. She taught strength by example. She is so missed.
I’ve been told that the marshaling thrum and best of the drums matches the typical cadences of the adult human heart and can actually influence the heart to match the same time. Little wonder then that the peoples and Dems, in unison, Scots and sassenachs, in much the same way.
I am an American with Scottish ancestry and I love watching this video and LOVE listening to the bagpipes. I can't tell you how many times I have watched your video! LOVE IT!!
Absolutely top notch my grandfather was at the top off his league in pipe bands him and his brother George..both Robert and George Montgomery both top notch pipe and drum majors two gentlemen xx
I'm Scottish, Irish, English, Welsh, and Sioux Indian. I love the pipes, drums, penny whistle, fiddle, and the dance. This march gives me goose bumps. Love it. Scotland forever!
they were not invented in Scotland though, they were invented by celtic tribes who originated in central Europe, bagpipes are used in several European folk music traditions it's just the Scots who have used them the most
I am portuguese, living in England for the past 10y. And for some reason I get chills when I listen to this video or watch this video! Love Scotland culture. The bagpipes, are just amazing to listen to. 6:45 ...just unbelievably beautiful! Amazing Scotland and it's people!
This reminds me of my childhood. Bagpipes was the first instrument I played at age 13. I was in a bagpipes band like this. But my parents moved so I had to quit. Now i'm 25 and I play piano, electric guitar and violin. But bagpipes still hold a place in my heart :)
The sheer fact that these people can march in step, hold and play this difficult instrument and not miss a beat or step 🥰😍🤩is truly awesome and all the good words that one can think of to describe these awesome men women and children.

The leader of the march looks so heroic! The proud way he carries himself. Fierce and ready to lead his troupe to battle. I get goose bumps watching this.
He's a band leader not a warrior. He square gaits the whole way, see how he's out of sync with the other leaders? You clearly never served in the military love, infantry are the warriors, we know how to march, he's just a musician in fancy dress.
@@darkjudge8786 I was thinking the same thing watching this. The one guy that was completely out of step / off time,.. was the one in the front,.. "leading" them all. The man behind him was on spot.
I'm from Brazil, my soul has a lovely connection to the Scottish traditions. The sound of bagpipes makes me emotional, everytime. I appreciate from Sir Walter Scott to Haggis passing by great Alexander McCall Smith! One day I will go visit this land of wonders!
Ballater is a beautiful wee town and their Highland games are a wonderful family day out. I was lucky enough to be there for the 2015 games and I’ll never forget the sound of the massed pipes and drums as they approached my vantage point on the Main Street. When I hear the pipes, I can’t help but think of my Great Grandfather who followed their sound ‘over the top’ at the battle of the Somme, only to return wounded and missing his closest friends.
My dad was the Pipe Sgt. of The San Francisco Highlanders in the early 1960's and then he became Pipe Mgr. of The Sierra Highlanders in Reno where he lived until his untimely passing in 1981. This grabs me from so far inside my heart words can't describe my inner feelings when i hear Scottish Pipes, when he died i got his skindo which was made by my grandfather whom i barely knew, it was stolen from me a short time later & to this day some year later as im now 63, he was 52 at the time of his death, but it still pisses me off to no end with a one of a kind in the world and gone in a minute.
I come from Germany and unfortunately have never been to Scotland. But you know, I just got goosebumps from this video with the proud, dignified guys. Beautiful culture
To my grandfather a great man of true heart, thank you for the wisdom. Thank you for the memories that I will never forget. Long live Scotland. Long live the Hendersons.
@s H Lmao where??? U talking about the Scottish government where one of their main driving ideologies is Scottish nationalism, and they've got Muslims in Scotland wearing tartan at weddings, etc.
@s H Scotland is one of the most highly patriotic and nationalistic countries I know of, the fact you have brought Sinn Fein into this shows you have underlying grievances you'r not telling us. The SNP's main goal is to restore Scottish sovereignty and promote Scottish culture, they have reorganised the Scottish education system so children are taught proper Scots history and not rubbish like the tudors, normans, King Arthur, etc which is taught elsewhere in the UK. Everywhere you go now there is Gaelic on road signs, on police, fire and ambulance vehicles - this is the SNP pushing this. No one denied any made up services so made up spear throwers and sandal wearing bombers can get them first, you're just making stuff up to push your deluded agenda.
@s H Don't worry until they ban such music. Then you know you have been over run.The real threat is from those who refuse to assimilate to the host countries culture,if they can't do that they do NOT belong there.God bless Scottland.
I remember marching behind a pipe band with full battle order for 26 miles with a 15 minute break at the halfway mark and enjoyed every mile happy days
I’ve been to Deeside and I can tell you as a child, I’ve never been more in awe, now, being more grown up than those years ago, my feelings haven’t changed one bit..
Just imagine getting charged by a load of men in the war and in the back beneath the sound of rifles and bombs you can hear the proud piper playing loud and strong.
I have traveled to many places in this world, but by far, my favorite vacation was the British Isles. Scotland in particular. Could there be anything more soul stirring than listening to bagpipes? I plan to go back someday!! 🤞
this song getting tremendously louder in the distance as you await your foe on the battlefield. You feel what you think is the beating of your heart in your chest only for the bag pipes ringing in your ears to make you realize the pounding is the footsteps of the pride of Scotland, the drums ushering in their victory.
Nothing traditional about this. The British army appropriated parts of Gaelic culture they wanted for their own filthy ends. The pipes you are are not the pipes of the Gael but a new invention
Hi, Scottish Candian here.. My dad and I love that here, our military still respects the strong ties to Scotland and does have amazing marching bands here as well. Goosebumps!

Greetings from Belgium. About half a mile from where I live, a group plays bagpipes once a week in the evening. Though I suffer from hearing loss, I still can hear them play from that distance. Amazing instrument.
Your hearing loss have anything to do with those bagpipers, by chance?
Joking, but it is a powerful instrument. Absolutely astonishing

For me this is the finest expression of any marching military force in the world. It just doesn't come any better than this in terms of spectacle and sheer heart and emotion....maybe the Scottish people take this for granted?...you shouldn't, this is very very special. Big love to Scotland from starchy old England.

Im an English ex service man, my Dad was an English ex service yet we both absolutely adore the pipes and m y Dad was piped out at his funeral . Respect to Scotland ,Ireland and Wales
what can you say about the battle of Balaklava?
My grandfather introduced me to this kind of music. He passed away on the 11th… this music will hold a special place in my heart, and I have him to thank for that :)
My grandfather was a drummer in a pipe band when I was a kid and I remember going to Dunblane in the 80's and watching him and listening to him playing it was amazing I still love listening to the music to this day it takes me back to my childhood, oh they were the days I wish to go back and see it all again
Why does this video have to be so beautiful.
The rustic town, the forest on the background, and the band! Amazing.
Even the Dogs are barking... Alba Gru Brath!!
I’m second generation Australian but clearly the Scots blood runs through the veins. Gives me goose bumps every time I hear the pipes and drums.
The same, and I'm 10th generation Acadian (US French) - but my ancestors' (Browne) blood stirs strongly on hearing the pipes and drums. It's uncommon to see a military or police funeral in a major US city without pipes to see the departed home.
well if you ever come here dont talk about your scottidh heritage because we dont care

God bless your wee granny.
Never forget your roots mate.
Great examples are to be prized. And remembered. 🏴
I would stand at attention for this any time any where! One of the only songs/ group types that gives me instant chills every single time!
I’ve been told that the marshaling thrum and best of the drums matches the typical cadences of the adult human heart and can actually influence the heart to match the same time. Little wonder then that the peoples and Dems, in unison, Scots and sassenachs, in much the same way.
I can easily cry everytime i hear the bagpipe's sound.. and I'm italian. So emotional ❤

The pipes touch one's soul, in a deep way.
I've watched this about a dozen times and counting. Even though I'm an American it makes me want to learn to play the pipes, fantastic!

A toast to all the Scottish Soldiers who fought and died for others Freedom.
Cheers..
From USA but Scot Irish all the way
Lets remember all the brave men and women who gave such huge sacrifices. We all bow our heads and say a prayer for those fine people.
