Hey everyone! Thank you for your patience with this one considering it was supposed to be out two weeks ago for the release of The Way Of Water (the greatest movie of all time) before I got sick. All okay now though 🙌
There's a huge 2023 on the horizon for this channel now that my output is speeding up, so keep it locked here for more WHY I LOVE videos (as well as some new surprises) going into the new year.

@Daniel Shakespeare I agree Titanic is visually stunning and leagues ahead of its time but other movies have more than caught up to it in detail imo. Avatar is different because in 13 years the only person who's proven they could beat or even meet where James Cameron was at in 2009 is James Cameron in 2022

Mad respect for James Cameron, the whole world think they’ve got the jump on him, he always has a plan to do something greater and he’s always one step ahead of the entire world.
And the movie Avatar was a genuine dream of his, he literally said that when he was in uni, he saw a dream of a bioluminescent forest and when he woke up he immediately made a sketch of it on a piece of paper, and decades later he achieved his dream by making avatar.

I'm so glad that amongst all of the, in my opinion, misplaced hate for Avatar, there are so many amazing fans and creators online coming out and showing their love for this franchise. When I saw Avatar in 2009, I was thirteen, and quickly became enamored with Pandora and the universe James Cameron created. As the hype died down, I felt like I was one of the only remaining fans, but it's so nice to see how much this film meant to everyone. And The Way of Water is amazing, too. I can't wait to see what Big Jim has in store for us in the future.

It does not look like a PS4 game. Just look at Ubisoft's Frontiers of Pandora, an upcoming PS5 game, and compare it to Avatar (2009). You can immediately tell the differences in realism, details, and believability. 3D format mainly contributes to the immersion aspect of the experience. It does not require 3D to see the world building, the rendering, the animation, the immense amount of details. The Avatar films may look like games because it's so vibrant and colourful, unlike most other "realistic" CGI movies which look very grainy, foggy, monochromatic, or sometimes straight-up bland.

As a person whose brain keeps analysing the technical filmmaking aspects while watching a movie, the sheer overwhelming mastery of Avatar 2 made my brain give up and I was more immersed in that film than I've ever been in a movie. That was what James was going for and he succeeded.
I was so awed by the perfection of every single effect in the movie that I didn't even think about the perfect comping of Spider until I got home and started replaying the movie in my head. Every little thing in Avatar is a filmmaking achievement and Avatar 2 made me finally realise that I was foolish for ever doubting James Cameron.

Something that I realized (at least imo) about the "what are their names???" is that: if you watch a movie like once & never again for years, it isn't a part of a series or collection of media (comics, shows, etc), the movie's name isn't the name of a character, & it isn't constantly being brought up, yeah you're not gonna remember anybody names. Coupled with the fact that many of the characters have difficult names to pronounce.
Name a character from The Great Gatsby that isn't Gatsby (heck, what's his real name?), name a character from the revenant, basically any horror movie (except of course Jason, Michael, Freddy, Chucky, & similar), & way more movies.
Remembering a name doesn't mean the movie is good. There are plenty of movies that are considered good & well liked and people can't remember a single name. At this point, can you name, lets say 15, characters that arent from the marvel or DC movies & that isn't super well-known to the point where you don't need to see the movie to know about em?

Guys, unobtainium is a thing that predates Avatar. The word was coined by engineers in the 1950s to refer to a theoretical, costly material that has the exact properties needed for a particular use. Unobtainium in Avatar references this concept. Unobtainium isn't dumb. Just look up the term on Wikipedia.

I just don't know why anybody living in the era of the MCU should complain about the name "Unobtanium" when they celebrate such patently ridiculous superhero flicks.
If they also complained about superheroes who are always posing as if for a cover photo in suits that look made for movies, not for real life, and complained about the "infinity stones" I'd say fair game, but people aren't doing that.
It's super aggravating that it's acceptable to criticize Avatar, everybody covering the movie seems to have to say, "Yeah, I know it's got problems, but I still like it", out of fear of rejection for liking Avatar, yet James Cameron and other filmmakers can't call out superhero flicks for their shallowness.
People are so stupid in propping up the superhero space and shooting down Avatar it's unreal.

Like come on it’s impossible to hate a movie like Avatar where you’ve got everything that was carefully studied by James Cameron, like the near future technology used in the film, and the alien wildlife having 6 limbs since pandora has light gravity compared to Earth. This is one of many reasons Avatar is my favorite sci fi movie, and I’ve literally become somewhat of a nerd, like ask me what type of vehicle or animal in the movie and I might either know it or need time to remember it. If we look at Avatar 2 we can see some new helicopters like the Kestrel which replaces the Samson and the Sea wasp replacing the Scorpion, etc.

James Cameron is a classical storyteller/filmmaker, and he's also the epitome of how great 80s and 90s film-making was. He understands the philosophy of classical story telling chronicled in Joseph Campbell's A Hero with a Thousand Faces. New film makers can try to be edgy and deviate from it, but if they deviate too far, it's nothing short of artistic failure _(Ryan Johnson... Cough... Cough The Last Jedi)._

bit strange for them to make the movie before the game, either way I'm excited for Frontiers of Pandora next year!
/Sarcasm aside Avatar is incredible, and Avatar The Way Of Water is even more so. I was lucky to catch the rerelease of Avatar a few months ago, naturally I watched it in IMAX 3D.

I don't think I'll ever be able to describe or explain how much your passion for the things and media you love infects and inspires me. HECK YES to the incredible things Avatar did and is. And thank you for being unabashedly enthusiastic about how much you love it. Because I feel like there's a chance it could fall into a memed disdain, where everybody is convinced it sucks cuz that's just what everyone talks about. So again, heck yes to this movie and franchise, and an even more vehement heck yes to you who sings its praises. Thank you for pointing out the beauty we might occasionally overlook, and for finding the glorious real in the unreal. And a Happy New Year to you! :)

I don't know I feel really conflicted watching this but can't really put my feelings to words... first of all a video game movie in my mind is just a movie that's set in the world of a existing video game with characters from the game, for me avatar doesn't feel like a video game, from video games I want good gameplay and having a good story is a nice bonus that acts as motivation or a breather between gameplay sections. And for both movies and games visuals aren't that important its a nice icing on the top but for movies I want an engrossing and thought provoking story with interesting characters and world, avatar did have amazing visuals and world but it felt too 'safe' of a movie I guess, still enjoyed it though. Love your videos and maybe I just was hoping for more focus on defending the movie's script, characters, story structure etc. And calling the movie a video game movie confused me a bit.

@@RolandTechnicalDesigner agreed, I enjoyed Way of Water more as well. I know it's a popular argument point, but I fully agree with most of this video about how mind-blowingly phenomenal Pandora is, it is beyond words how beautiful it is. I understand the argument made in the video that the human characters and the plot with the military wasn't where Cameron's priority laid, and that's a fair enough point, but for me personally that just dragged down the original so much for me, no matter how incredibly insanely beautiful the movie is. I adore Pandora and the Na'vi don't get me wrong, but that doesn't mean anything when I'm bored with the humans, the military that sets up and acts as a framework for the whole thing.
I'm glad someone else felt as equally conflicted as me with this whole video. I understand and agree with a lot and even most of it, but I felt similar to you in some of the ways you mentioned and I just talked about.

I not even going to say how much probably have collected so far, so by the LAST time I check...lets see........1.708 BILLION and number 7 in the highest grossing films of all times of the Avatar 2 that everyone of those aholes that spend 14 years claiming NO ONE CARES ABOUT AVATAR.....have to feel pretty damn stupid today, don't you think XD. oh and the name of the main character, Jake Sully, Neytiri, Miles Quarich, Dr. Augustine Grace, Trudy, yeah I think we REMEMBER THE NAMES for the idiots who keep saying that, amazing video man, we just have to laugh now at how dumb this 14 years of wait for the sequel have now show that the first Avatar film was not just pretty graphics or a FLUKE, I never understand.....why people KEEP Betting against James Cameron.....they never learn....I just want to see what now they plan to say for Avatar 3 when ever it comes.

Great video, I love your positivity and insight. When Avatar came out I was pretty cynical about it and didn't watch it until a few years after release on DVD. I enjoyed it, then pretty much forgot about it.
Friends got me hyped for The Way of Water and I rewatched the first one before catching it in IMAX 3D. I now love this franchise so much. The Way of Water is the only movie that's moved me to tears, maybe I'm just getting soft with age.
Anyway I've just found your channel and given you a subscribe and recommended to a few friend. I'll definitely be checking out some of your other video's, and look forward to seeing what you cover next.

And yet, in spite of all these truths, the original movie actually spawned a very mediocre video game, EVEN THOUGH the aliens franchise has spawned THREE fantastic games, two covering the second movie on the SNES and Genesis, and one about the original movie more recently. WHY hasn't Avatar gotten a decent actual video game ??? Why ?

I kinda agree to that guy, but the story is really just too flat and predictable - it was the same issue and even the same story in the second movie - which is leaving at least 80% of the movies potential unused.
When someone like Christopher Nolan tells us a story, he doesnt use 3D unfortunately, but his stories are just so insanely deep and still understandable, that they are still interesting and exciting to watch.
SPOILER for Avatar 2 CONTAINED in the following text:
When watching Avatar 2 in the cinema, I literally predicted this whale thing coming in the end and preventing Jake and No'ak from downing. It was so obvious, this was gonna happen - it wasnt surprising me even in the slightest.
